Looking up recipe for avocado prawn salad…love it when he sits down to eat! BB should consider writing a Harry Bauer gourmet cookbook which includes his list of exquisite wines. Another adventure…soon…BB!
I have read two books from the Harry Bauer series. This is the second one. Previously I read book 14. I found some repeated phrases across the books, which I find odd. Then there are the grammatical changes: using '"learnt" and "learned" in close proximity. You want to sound like a British author, you use "learnt". Then there were the geographic references: prefacing Highway numbers with the word " the"; as in "the 15" , rather than highway 15, or its given name: US 15. Folks in southern California use a "the" preface, most other places in the state do not.
Then there is the authors political leaning, which becomes obvious and adds nothing to the plot. While the story is a good thriller, it could have used a good editor.
First off, this seems to not follow directly from book 14. The ending in 14 indicated Harry and the Colonel, might actually get together at last. We will have to wait and see if that thread gets pulled in later book A few issues with the writing in this one. One minute Harry is asking questions as himself, then seems to slip and ask things as if it were Ash talking. Didn't make a lot of sense The story is very good. Starts off in a small town moves to Vegas and then various cities in California. Harry in his usual way leaving bodies in his trail The ending is a surprise and I am hoping leads straight into book 16, which I am buying as soon as I finish this review
Swearing swearing swearing. And that still doesn't cover it.
I've been busy reading going from book to book, and had no time to write my version of a review. Right down to the last damn word. And still you get to me. How can one writer be so damn good ? That was rhetorical, there is no answer. Mr Banner just is. And now I know I have only two books left in the series, and I'm dreading ending them. What could I possibly read that could touch me the way that these words have. It's like I'm in a relationship with a book !!!! How stupid is that... I'm making a coffee before I start book 16...
"Riding The Devil," a part of the Harry Bauer series by Blake Banner, falls into the realm of average for fans of the series. As an assassin for the secretive Cobra organization, Harry is drawn into a small town by intel from his FBI friend, Ash Cooper. Discovering Ash and his daughter murdered, Harry sets out on a vengeance mission against a local drug dealer and eventually the entire cartel. The plot follows a predictable path, making it a straightforward storyline. While not the standout entry in the series, one hopes for a more compelling narrative in the next installment.
This one was largely "mailed-in." Bauer bounces around at a breakneck pace without any serious setback, other than ones that were manufactured, but merely made for jarring contrasts between his alleged capabilities and rookie mistakes. The ending was weird and, in my opinion, not well led into. Even more unbelievable than the whole unbelievable story. But it inexplicably leads to the next book in the series.
Another excellent chapter in the Bauer series. Harry begins to realize that he can't be the savior for everyone. The memory of his time in Afghanistan is beginning to catch up with him. After taking out the members of Gulf Cartel, he realized he is tired and may want to rebuild his life until Maria shows up and tells him the truth. With her suicide he calls Brigadier and says he is back in. So , can't for the next chapter. 10 stars 🌟 plus. Thanks Carl Clause
So, Banner finally gave Harry Bauer some internal processing, along with some more thoughtful mayhem. Wonder what happened to the Colonel? Is she still recuperating from her injuries? Bauer finally begins to be sickened by what he does. That's a departure from the Harry I've come to know. At least Claire survived.
Although assigned to assassinate one cartel boss, Harry follows a chain of people connected to the target. Murdering them in the name of morality and accountability becomes Harry' s responsibility to justify to himself. Romantic philosophizing counters the violence.
Another great read from Blake Banner. I have read all of the Harry Bauer books in order and never been disappointed. The action is non stop and it is accompanied by a great story line. I am really looking forward to the next book. I will just wait patiently for it. A well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another evil dark murderous tale from Blake Banner.
After reading "Riding the Devil", it is one of my top 3 Harry Bauer murderous and dark stories the author has written. Plus the fact that he quoted one of my favorite Shakespeare pieces gives this book a thumbs up. Nobody can murder like Harry can!
Excellent as are all Blaker Banner books! Good story with lots happening. Surprise ending, quite sad. I think Harry could use some time away from all his activities, he seems to be near a breaking point. As after each Harry Bauer book, I'm ready to go on to the next in the series. Never a disappointment.
From New York through most of middle America, into Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona and back - Harry Bauer drives thousands of miles to try to bring justice to a small town in Wyoming. I got tired just riding along with Harry as he drove in his attempt to do do justice.
We think we can understand human nature. Why people do and act in different ways. Is there a cause and effect relationship? Internal anger; past transgressions and present dilemmas impact upon how we react to today’s situations. All these things are at play for Harry.
Love this series!!! This one was not as explosive as the previous the he rest. Harry can not be retiring! He's the best at taking out the trash! Not any interaction with the colonel and was hoping there would be! But looking forward to more of Harry Bauer!
If you want an action-packed, thought-provoking book, this is it. Well paced and well written. But if you want happy and uplifting, you won’t find it here. This is a somber noir thriller.
Bauer has a serious mental problem with the actions he has taken trying to get revenge for senseless killings by the cartels. He knows that his elimination of the ruthless men was morally justified but was it really the way to go.
Harry starts out to help a friend only to find he is too late this then spirals into a pursuit of going after the ones responsible for killing is friends daughter
It took me only 12 hours to go from beginning to end of this superb novel. I'm not accustomed to lose sleep over a book, but this one had merit to do so. So, now I'm ready for the next!! Monica Beltrami-Carter.
Most stories have a twist during the telling of the tale, but Riding the Devil waited till the end and exploded!!! Now I have to find Harry Bauer’s next chapter there is no putting this off !! Well done Mr. Banner
I slept the sleep of the damned for 8 hours until the sun leaned in and poked me in the eyes .... The descriptions of his observations are hilarious and perfectly in character.
