Once a woman reaches a certain age, she becomes invisible, no matter how attractive she is. And so, widow, Gen, does not expect her Scots-born TV crush to even notice her, not when he is surrounded by more age-appropriate opportunities. But Sam does notice her, and how.
Former high school teacher and university lecturer, Suze E Prescot (aka Essey Nelson) has lived and worked in Lancashire (according to its original boundaries) her whole life. She loves cats and horses, and is, in fact fond of all animals. She loves reading, often reading five or more stories a week. She has no fave type of story, and her bookshelves boast detective and mystery, crime and spy, science fiction and fantasy, and plenty of humour. From Shakespeare, Austen and the Brontës, to modern indie authors, if its well-written, she will read it. Despite her catholic tastes, she tends to write romance, and will happily argue that most fiction falls under that banner. Her heroes are strong and wonderful men - on the inside at least! While her heroines are intelligent, capable, yet often naïve and pure whatever their age.
Loved it! This book is mostly sex, but *great* sex, and I am in love with Gen’s voice and personality. I prefer stories with a single point of view, which this is, though there is a trilogy omnibus with added scenes from Sam’s perspective should you desire them.
Beautiful! Heartwarming! My first read by Suze Prescott but not my last. I cannot stress enough just how much I adored this story about Gen and Sam. Two lovely characters. Their story is consuming! Age is only a number. I read a lot of different tropes but age gap is my favorite especially when the heroine is older than the hero. Maybe because I'm "older" and continue to hold out hope of someday finding my "Sam." Who knows. I just know that I truly loved this story. Gen and Sam's story is romantic, steamy, and sexy as heck. It's relatable. I laughed and I swooned. A thoroughly addictive read. Great characters and an incredible, well-written story. Highly recommend.
Self praise is no recommendation, but I do love this story. A reader said that had she not known a little about me, she would have thought it a true story. Is there greater praise for a writer?
This is the first book I have read by Suze E Prescot! It will not be my last.
Age Perfect really hit me hard in the heart because I can so relate since I just entered my 60s. It's weird but I see some of Gen in myself, which is definitely a good thing. Gen travels to the United States for a vacation after losing her husband. Gen gets to meet Sam, her TV crush, at a "comic-con" type convention. Gen doesn't meet Sam by standing in line to meet him. She is standing off to the side and just admiring him and then . . . (cue the suspenseful music). There is one thing - Sam is about 20 years younger than Gen.
I absolutely love the reverse age gap theme. It's a breath of fresh air in today's world. Both characters are so relatable and a breath of fresh air. I'm anxious to read Book 2 because I think something is brewing with Sam's agent and/or publicist.
Here are some of my favorite quotes:
"He tolerated my exposition of this actor’s latest interview, that one’s latest extra-film activities, and viewed a lot of their supposed examples of charity, candour and compassion with a jaded eye." (so so can relate to this with my hubster between celebrities and my love of American Football)
"I emerged from a relatively easy menopause with a surge in my libido despite not taking HRT." (Yes, Yes, Yes)
"Nothing he did or said swayed me from the view that, in some way, I loved him. I know it is odd for a woman in her sixties to talk like this; teenagers talk about loving this or that celebrity, and adults say it’s just an infatuation."
"Like most women I became invisible around my mid -fifties. It’s a magic trick none of us want to learn, but suddenly we get no attention from men." (true fact - which is so sad)
“Well; I don’t care about most of those things, but I’d like tae fix the last one.” (Sam's Scottish accent = yummy)
"It’s never felt so good, Gen. Never. Your age is irrelevant if you’re perfect for me." (Sam is such a romantic)
Suze knocked this one out of the park!! This is the first book by this author that I have read and I will be reading more! It spoke to me, feeling that as we age we are looked at differently. The characters were so real and Suze did an amazing job making you feel as though you’ve known them your whole life. The trials that Gen & Sam go through are real life situations that happen when there are age differences between partners. She does a great job with the characters overcoming their fears and life situations. I can not wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommended.
I was gifted a copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ah I loved this, was sad at the start and I wasn't sure what type of book this was going to be as hadn't read the blurb, but I'm glad as I was able to just enjoy rather than have an expectation
I love the reverse age gap, I loved all the age descriptions and emotions that come with being an older woman
I was actually sad the book ended as was all cozied up and enjoying it so much that when it ended I was all nooooo I want more from this story
