Summertime Clues

Rate this book
Magic, Murder, Music, and… Mermaids!

Novice witch Evelyn Eldritch always knew the English seaside was cold in August, but she hadn’t expected it to be deadly. So when one of her music heroes turns up dead, she and her policeman boyfriend Alex are compelled to catch the killer.

There was only one witness, but there's something fishy about her – as Alex discovers when she grows a giant fish tail and thwacks him round the chops. Perhaps Evelyn can draw on her mysterious new powers – but where have they come from? It must be something to do with the strange dreams she’s been having…

Alex is out of his jurisdiction, so he needs to stay under the radar of the local police. Luckily, his amateur sleuth girlfriend is happy to share tips on how she successfully disobeys him back in Maiden-Upon-Avon. And, of course, Luke, Leia, Fuzzball, and a little magic are on hand to help.

Containing all the usual high-jinks humour, well-loved quirky characters, and tantalising twists, Summertime Clues will keep you rocking ‘til the end.

Oh wow simply another delightful adventure into Evelyn's magical world. I just love this series and have to say it is one of my favourite series because you just never know what is going to happen, other than it is going to be fun, exciting and magical. Who doesn't love a book that contains mermaids, dogs that can be turned human and ice cream trucks. The reason I love it so much is because of the characters. Having joined the series right from the start I have seen the characters grow in both character and as friends, and that is exactly what they feel like, especially as many of them we have met before. The mystery is also good and surround in magic. The mix of magic and mystery works well together as the two worlds combine giving the reader an entertaining mystery that keeps you guessing. I did guess the killer because the clue was a bit obvious but it was still a lot of fun reading as Evelyn worked it out, especially with the added twist. I also like the fact the story is set in England and I can't wait for the next book.
Evelyn and her boyfriend Alex, join her brother Luke and his girlfriend Leia on holiday at the seaside. There favourite band is getting back together and having met the leader of the band in there last case they get invited to a recording session. They arrive in time to find one band mate dead of an accident and to witness another ones murder. Alex as a policeman is warned not to interfere but when the a witness or suspect turns out to be a mermaid Evelyn and her friends have no choice but to investigate. People say you should never meet your hero's and investigating this case will they learn more about there favourite band than they ever wanted to know? Evelyn as a Novice witch is also receiving training from a new teacher and not her grandmother but can she really trust what she learns?

Evelyn, Leia & Luke are in Brighton and Alex with Max arrive a bit later bringing with them a mysterious piece of paper that had been sent to Evelyn. When they get to visit with their friend Johnny of the Tetanus Steel group they hear that one of them has died mysteriously. Evelyn is sure it is murder. Then whilst they are there, there is shot and another band member is found dead on the ground outside, fallen from the balcony of a locked room. This one is definitely a murder. To add to all the mystery a mermaid is involved & they discover who (and why!) is training Evelyn in her dreams. All together a good read.

Three reasons to read this book:

1) The story is very well written, utterly delightful and full of humour.
2) The characters are well rounded, lovable and really funny.
3) Magic, mystery and murder - need I say more?
Oh, and Fuzzball is in it!

Even if you’ll love this book only half as much as I do, you’re in for a treat.

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

So good!

Summertime Clues was a fun holiday away from all the mischief and murders in their hometown of Maiden-Upon-Avon. Evelyn and her friends are quickly embroiled in a new murder of not one, but two members of her and Alex's favorite band, Tetanus Steel. Not only that, but they're running around looking for clues to a treasure map they think might be involved. From all around Brighton, to under the sea, to breaking and entering--er, sneaking into a museum late at night, and also trying to figure out about the mysterious figure haunting her dreams who's teaching her advanced magic at an alarming rate. Another delightful cozy mystery from Rosie Reed. I can't wait to read book 9!

A weekend at the beach....what could go wrong??

A fun and relaxing weekend at the beach is just what the doctor ordered...but things don't a!ways go as planned. Evelyn and her gang find a lot of trouble and no time to relax. They put their sleuthing caps on and work together to try and solve a few mysteries.
Ms. Reed is a fantastic writer with a wonderful imagination, I don't know how she does it, but I'm so glad so does. I am waiting impatiently for book 9.
If you enjoy paranormal mysteries, with friendship, love, and magic, then this series is for you. Make sure to start at book one to enjoy every minute of the life and times of Evelyn and friends.

Fun and relaxing

Engaging characters. Pleasant settings, well described landscapes of Southern England. Intriguing thoughts triggered eg what your cat or dog would be like as human. Murder mystery story line almost unnecessary extra.

I started this book a week ago and just didnt really call to me. I mean there is only so much death a person can tolerate after reading all 6 books one after the other.

After the break and coming back to the book, I was reading it to complete it rather than really enjoying the book.

Rocks, Rockers, and Revenge

Racing around the music world, Alex and Eve go after a murderer. Was jealousy or greed the motive ? Lots of laughs along the way.

Summertime Clues

Once again Rosie Reed has outdone herself with this book. This story was funny, romantic and mysterious. I had no idea who "done it" until the end of the book.

Summertime Clues is the eighth book in the English Village Witch Cozy series by Rosie Reed, and we are reunited with witches, Beings of Magic, and family and friends we’ve met before.

Summertime Clues has Evelyn once again front and center with her magical spells, amateur sleuthing, her boyfriend Alex, a Deputy Inspector, and his dog, Max, and her brother, Luke, and his girlfriend, Leia. The setting is Brighton Beach in England when they’re away for the weekend, and of course, there’s another murder or two.

These crimes are out of Alex’s jurisdiction, but it doesn’t stop him from helping the local cops. But again, Evie is piecing the clues together slowly but surely until the crimes are solved, and it’s not who I expected whodunnit.

The story has a good flow and lots of twists and turns as new characters are scattered throughout. Of course, there’s magic and mayhem—especially when Evie’s involved.

There was closure and some romantic happiness, but the book ended abruptly. I was happy to see another book in the series, All Hallows Scream. I look forward to reading it. The cover is full of details pertinent to the story, and I liked its pastel look.

Magic and mayhem abound, and it was nice to observe all the craziness going on as I sat back with a cuppa! A satisfying read since the cases was solved satisfactorily, and some romances moved forward.

If you (like me) have been reading this wonderful paranormal-cozy series up to now, you'll definitely enjoy this next instalment - which whisks our usual cast of kooky characters away from the usual English village setting... to the quintessentially British seaside town of Brighton.

Evelyn Eldritch wanted so much to meet the members of her favourite rock band Tetanus Steel - who just so happen to be based at the aforementioned seaside town. But she didn't expect one of them to turn up dead... and for she and Alex to be the ones who have to solve another puzzling and mysterious murder case.

Luke, Leia and Fuzzball are all in Brighton too, and they're soon all drawn into a fantasia of mermaids, music and mayhem!
There's all the usual fun and unexpected twists you'd expect from one of Rosie Reed's books - as our hero Evie battles the forces of evil and forces from beyond the human realm, as well as being desperate to solve her latest murder case and find out just who 'dunnit'!

This book makes a great addition to the Evie Eldritch series - the seaside setting adds an extra colourful dimension, and is used to good effect. It certainly keeps you guessing right to the end, and it's up to Evie to orchestrate a harmonious conclusion to this musical maelstrom of magic and murder!

Summertime Clues - An interesting story with good characters. Rockstars and mermaids. Murder and tea, and Joanie. When a talent about a certain someone came to light, I knew the motive and the killer. Still plenty of story lines to keep my interest until the end. 4*

Murder at Magic Cakes Cafe - Interesting, better than I expected. A little wordy in some parts, but better than a lot of Cozy mysteries. The characters are well done with good dialog and humor amongst the friendlier ones. The murderer was easy to figure out but still well done. 4*

Merrie May Mayhem - A novella that takes place a month after Murder at Magical Cakes Cafe. Good investigation. Interesting characters and story lines. 4*

Summertime Clues by Rosie Reed is book #8 in the English Village Witch series. The gang visits Brighton Beach in this latest book in the series. There's lots going on besides murders. I found the mermaid to be interesting and I enjoyed seeing the usual characters but I couldn't get into this book. Maybe it was the music band. Those aren't my favorite sub-genres to read. This isn't my favorite book in the series but I very much enjoyed all the previous books in the series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
