I liked these characters just fine but the writing was off for me.
Something else I didn’t like, the emu angle. I know you need to get your inspiration from somewhere and all that, but this just seemed a bit too close to reality. Even though it’s completely fictional, it just lacked a bit of originality.

I started reading this collection in the wrong order because I didn’t notice that KU has the wrong order. I trusted them. My OCD is killing me, anyway…

I consider this a very original story. This novella presents some kind of social media star and a self-made businesswoman, both had a relationship prior their current careers. Autumn left the place once was her home, Asheville, NC to pursue her dream in California; Calissa stayed but everything she knew also changed not only because the woman she loved left.

In this one life is enigmatic and brings them together for a second chance that both take willingly.

You see how low self-esteem, lack of confidence can make a person run away because they thinks they don’t deserve anything but also how a person can grow and heal. At the same time the positive and rewarding of forgiving. Really nice.

BUT there’s always a but. The story of Bear and Janessa’s, such a question mark.
There was something, we were made to believe there was something and in the end we were ghosted.

One thousand mistletoes wouldn’t have been enough.

3.5 stars. This was a really sweet and sexy second chance holiday romance between an interior designer and an emu hobby farmer who separated years ago and happen to meet up during the Christmas season. It's quite short, but because it's a second chance romance and there are already feelings between the two women, it worked a lot better than other short holiday romances. Calissa was so sexy and swoony, and there was something so refreshing about the fact that for her, there was no conflict. She has already done her soul-searching and she forgave Autumn years ago. On the flipside, that does make this novella read a bit more shallowly than I would have liked perhaps? There is a bit of a tragedy in their past that forms the reason why they broke up, and I don't think that was as well expressed or deeply felt as it could have been. All the same though, I loved their banter and connection, and the B-plot romance was also really cute. I wish more of it had had those Christmassy vibes I'm looking for, but the fact that a lot of it takes place in an airport is a unique plot and airports are something that a lot of us can associate with the holidays. A quick, fun read with really easy to like characters. Kudos.

I’m new to the author and found this because it is part of the KU Tis the Season Collection. Autumn Peterson lives in California but returns home to Asheville, NC. She has no plans to look up her ex Calissa Roberts but of course they meet again. And they managed to get snowed in at an airport forcing them to spend even more time together. I liked the two MC’s but didn’t love the two sides. This had plenty of cuteness with a emus and ducks but I found the story a little jumpy and it didn’t connect for me.

Idk what's going on with me and my desire for holiday books in the middle of summer.

Good thing this was a short one.I just couldn't with the main relationship anymore, they were cute but that was it.They had nothing interesting going on,not even the drama or the reason they broked up for.It just felt plain.

But on the second thoughts I loved the side characters, I was shipping Bear and Janessa,I was waiting for every little detail and moment from them.

But overall this was a nice read.

I'll be honest, emus scare me to death, but I guess Biscuit was cute... on paper.

I'm weak for second chance romances, if done well, and I enjoyed this one. They clearly had a lot of love left for each other, and it was nice to see them reunite. I did find it hard sometimes to follow along with what exactly the setting was and what exactly was happening, which I think was due to the writing style, which could have been a little more clear.

Character’s are womderful

Loved the characters. Their personalities are what kept me reading. But the book was hard to read. Some sections I had to read multiple times to figure out what was taking place. Also the flow was so off. In parts I had no idea who was talking to who. It was really rough. Thankfully a shorter read.

Heartwarming and laugh inducing

Y'all, I'm on a roll. It seems I've picked a lot of light readings this end of the year, thank fuck! Imagine reading depressing shit this close of a new year? To each their own, but it's not for me.

Anyway, this was loads of fun, there's a lot of banter and friction between side characters, and a lot of (good, sexual even) tension between MC. And plenty of cuteness with the animals of the farm. Honestly? Great reading. I love me some 2nd chance love stories.

Ms. Fyre, you better give Janessa and Bear their happy ending or we're having words! hahhaha

Edit: the bonus epilogue good gawd!🔥😭🔥😭🔥

I love this second chance story! (And Biscuit the Emu chick is adorable!). Autumn left NC 10 years ago, leaving her girlfriend Calissa behind. She went to California and met Janessa who becomes her bestfriend and business partner in an interior design company. They both are in Autumns' hometown in NC for a job, when she bumps into Calissa at the local coffee shop. And the fun begins, and hot sex! There is also at the end, a link for an online Bonus epilogue.

Second chances should not be thrown away!

Its been a couple, decade of years when she ran away the first time. A chance meeting at a layover and a snow storm forces them back in the same room/airport. What happens, who makes the first remark/step? A missing pet and does it happen again where she runs off or run back to her to help? Short but enjoyable story. Enjoy!

unusual but great work

I really loved this story! It was so different from others that I have read and the main characters were great but bear was really interesting as a secondary character. Anyways I would definitely recommend this to book to anyone wanting a good book to read. I purchased all of the series and am looking forward to reading them all.

Sweet and fun

I fell in love with Biscuit, the baby emu-so endearing. I cheered on the characters as they wrestled with leaving behind past mistakes for present possibilities. Sweet, fun, and steamy. A perfect Christmas sapphic romance 🥰💜

A Flight to Love is a great example of a second chance romance done in ~100 pages.

Autumn and Calissa used to date, back before Autumn's career took off and before Calissa's older sister died. Autumn moved to California to pursue her career and they tried to make the long-distance thing work, but when Autumn was unable to make it back to Asheville in time for Calissa's sisters funeral, Autumn decided it was best to break. She couldn't be there for her, y'know?

Cut to now. On the tail end of a business trip back in Asheville, a chance encounter leads to reignited sparks. Sparks that never really died. Their break-up had been due to circumstances and not bad blood, thus an easy in to getting back together in a small page count. The forced proximity as they were stranded in a blizzard in an airport didn't hurt either.

The spice was good, although the setting was a personal turn off for me. A makeshift bed in utility room in the airport? Eh... But the window shopping and costume try on before that was a great example of the fun & games beat.

My #1 issue with this book was the perspective. Told in alternating 1st person, neither Autumn or Calissa had a distinct enough voice to separate their sections. I was repeatedly confused about who was narrating certain chapters and had to reread to figure it out.

There's an epilogue if you sign up for Frankie Fyre's newsletter and I hope the potential sequel staring Bear and Janessa she mentioned on Twitter becomes a reality. They're a top tier side couple.

Happy holidays!

Sweet second-chance story

Christmas is the right timing for Frankie Fyre’s second-chance love story between Calissa (“Callie”) Roberts, an emu farmer and online content generator in Asheville, N.C., and her ex Autumn Peterson, a self-employed interior designer who left Callie after college to move to California to pursue her career.

Rounding out the dynamic cast of characters are Bear, Calissa’s younger sister; Janessa, Autumn’s BFF and business partner; and Janet, an unsuspecting third wheel and the Roberts’ emu sitter.

Autumn and Callie see each other again when the design partners take on a project in Asheville.

Autumn wonders if Callie can ever forgive her, while Callie questions whether Autumn can ever forgive herself.

They get a chance to spend extra time together when they become stranded at the Asheville airport. A snowstorm serendipitously stymies the island holiday travel plans of the two business partners and the sentimental Providencetown trip the Robert sisters had planned.

Fyre’s book is a simple one, heavy on coincidences and light on conflict. The strong personalities of Bear and Janessa do, however, provide plenty of entertainment, and the lingering feelings between Callie and Autumn ignite a steamy and romantic reunion.

This was a short, light read with a sweet second-chance story and… an emu. I mean, unique points right there. Pretty much the entire cast was Autumn and her BFF Janessa, and Calissa and her sister Bear (she has an actual name, but nobody uses it). Fortunately, they’re all great characters, though Janessa and Bear have a… well also a unique way of showing it.

Basically everything in this story had character, from the farm to the videos to the changing room and luggage room to the holiday gift to, well, the Ethernet cable. (Yeah, maybe you’ll have to trust me on that one, but you’ll see…) Though the second-chance trope has been done before, everything about the way it was done here felt fresh. There wasn’t a lot of angst because Autumn and Calissa still had obvious chemistry, and just got closer over the course of the story. The main question is not a will they or won’t they but rather whether they have the will to get past the fact that they’ve settled in opposite ends of the country.

Anyway, definitely a fun way to pass an afternoon, and oh, yeah — it turns out you can find mistletoe virtually anywhere. :)

Good book

A sweet story about how being in the right place at the right time when you go back to where you left your true love. Autumn went back to the city where she had left everything she loved including her girlfriend for a chance to make it big in business. Calissa a farmer and animal lover is very popular on u tube. They run into each other and the love is still there . Getting held up at the airport foe canceled fights they make a date at the airport where things get exciting. A good read

literally could not care for anything in this book. All the characters felt flat, the plot was so weird, and the romance was extremely forced. I would've liked it better if the story was focused on Bear and Janessa instead of Autumn and Callie that had no chemistry whatsoever. By the way, if you were looking for a spicy holiday novella, this is not it Also I'm not sure why Biscuit was in the book-he hardly had any scene time.

Fun and spicy!

Returning to her hometown, Interior Design CEO Autumn runs into the girlfriend she had left behind to make it big in her career. Calissa is an emu hobby farmer who is famous on the internet. They run into each other at the airport amidst a snowstorm and flight cancellations. Spending many hours together, they realize their feelings for one another never died. It's a fun and spicy second chance for both of them with Biscuit adding the fun!

3.5. This was cute and like no angst - that said, this is a second chance and while I don’t mind low angst, I do wish the first chance breakup was explored a little bit more. Even if it did introduce more conflict I think it would have done the story some good because the romance felt a little thin without it. But overall I thought the setting was fun (snowed in at an airport!) and the characters were enjoyable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

“Some things need to happen in order to get us where we’re meant to be. We might not have become the people we are today if we hadn’t.”

an emu farmer and an interior designer??? what more could u want? i don’t need much from a novella, just cute, spice, christmas and a sprinkle of cringe for good measure. and it ticked the boxes i liked it a lot.

i didn’t realise though that i’ve read these out of order and this isn’t book one. ku fucked me up.

I liked this one a lot. It was a little bit nerdy and steamy all at the same time. The biggest complaint is that it was not long enough for the side characters to get more cameos, and I was just as intrigued by them.

The Christmas setting was quite refreshing as it did not focus on the glittery romance of the holiday but instead the slightly awful, but necessary part of holiday travel. The romance and antics were creative enough to make me look into other future reads from this author.

Wow, this short read is Hot!

Frankie Fyre has managed to build the heat in this read to a boiling point so quickly and managed to fully develop characters that demand more! Her writing style lends to her fast pace. The setting is perfect for the action, bringing a bit of angst along with situations we can all appreciate! I loved this novella.

My new favorite holiday book. What I have found in Frankie's books is that it will be funny, sweet and very hot. This book does not disappoint. I love Callie and Autumn's chemistry and Janessa and Bear are hilarious. I had no clue what an emu even was until I read this book. Now I want one lol. The wife said no though. You won't want to miss this book.

A Flight to Love is a second-chance holiday romance with several cute scenes. However, the story arc is a little disjointed and it is not easy to get a good sense of the main characters and how they might interact in a long term, committed relationship. Biscuit and the rest of the supporting cast provide comic relief at key points. This is a fun, though not terribly engaging, read.

I love a good second change romance, especially when you throw in childhood sweethearts, small town, snowed in and an adorable baby emu to boot!
This was really cute, beautiful to see how these characters came back together, discovering their old feelings while both have grown and changed as adults and still finding love for one another.
