When a demon lives within you, love is a vulnerability you can't afford.
The deep Maine forests are Mathias's sanctuary, a place to bury the bodies of the villains he hunts. His refuge is shattered when the police discover the body of a woman near his dumping ground, throat slashed, drained of blood...but she isn't his victim. Someone knows his darkest secrets and will stop at nothing to unveil them to the world.
Adding to his problems, Michelle Jerome comes to town and begs Mathias to help clear her father's name. The demon hardly reacts to her blood, filling Mathias with fresh hope for his greatest desire—a normal existence. If only normal were possible.
Her presence upends his life, creating problems at work and drawing dangerous attention from the press. His prime suspect slips through his fingers. A bomb rocks downtown. Above all, his feelings for Michelle crack his keen self-control. No one around him is safe, and Mathias himself may be their worst threat.
So you want to know the person behind the words of your latest novel. Look no further! This is me.
Hi, I'm Kari. I love romance books... in fact I read them through my most impressionable years - so just call me a hopeless romantic. I love when one character fights for the love of another and triumphs in the end. So when you're reading my book, know that you will get your happily ever after!
Twists are a natural part of life. Whether on the pages in a book or in the real world. Lets face it, things that keep us guessing are what makes it interesting. As I also love stories with twists, you will find I try to sneak them into my stories. Doesn't matter if it's romance or a mystery... so keep an eye out.
So, here is the basic break down. I am the oldest of 4 half brothers. I grew up in Utah and I live in Idaho. I burn the candle at 15 ends on a good day - which is why I get the compliment "You look tired" so often- HA.
Some of the things I fill my time with are my family, my business - both writing and teaching preschool, sewing, reading, baking, cake decorating, drawing, singing, home improvement, yard work... well, you get it.
I hope you pick up one of my books and it fills a few hours with entertainment. If I delivered, I would LOVE a review or mention! Don't be shy! Drop a line! I love to hear from my readers too.
I have been waiting for this! AND I am not disappointed. I am exhausted. What a ride. A lot is packed into this newest installment of the Mathias Saga. Each novel is like an episode and this was-it- a huge season premiere. We are in the woods of Maine again but this time someone is stomping on Mathias territory. Too close to home in more ways than one. And the reveal at the end...Whoa! And unlike so many vampire or paranormal characters in novels (and tv) Mathias does not partake in over indulgencies, vices, and other risky, primal, urges We see too often. This is just a guy named Matt trying to not be caught while taking out of crime. And yes, you need to read the other books to understand the ongoing police case at hand.
While the writing of the Mathias series is really great for all the books in a grammatical sense, this book is really improved in characterization, pace and plot. The authors are definitely honing their skill and this is the best book yet for the series. The characters are still not super deep but they are nonetheless alluring which really hooks your interest in the story. The plot has enough twists and turns to maintain your interest throughout. Also, this book seems to have more substance in loose ends being tied up whereas the last book left so many story lines unfinished. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys police drama or vampire stories. Once you start reading Mathias' story, you're only going to want more. Especially with the great cliff hangers.
A plot arc from episode one resolves, but loose ends still dangle, enticing the reader to email the author begging for episode three. Mathais's relationships with his coworkers are further explored, and a new character is thrown into his life, showing the reader a side of him he'd probably rather keep buried. A larger character cast means more to keep track of, but no one gets a gratuitous bit part. 4/5
So many more twists and turns and events than I could’ve imagined. And it’s crazy, even when I’m going through a severe aversion to reading and having to try and force myself every few days to read something, Mathias just strikes me and I can’t stop. I have to devour everything about him in his stories. I wish there were more for me to start immediately!!
Ohmigosh this series has me hooked! It has twists I didn't see coming. The mystery in this book was very well written, and the "cliffhanger" at the end has me desperate to find out what happens! Mathias is such a great character, and the people he works and interacts with are filled with rich backstories of their own. Love this book!
Mathias’s story continues! I love how this series builds more and more intrigue into the overarching story while having a satisfying tying of at least one end in each book. Book 2 starts almost immediately after book 1 ends, with more kind of creepy good suspense than before. The mystery grabbed me from the very beginning and the read is worth it just for the suspense. For a century-old vampire, Mathias’s cluelessness concerning social interactions can be a bit much, and I’m hoping some more dimension comes along for the secondary female characters - Mathias’s auto-shop contact is growing into a fascinating character, so I’m hoping the others will have their time, too.
I received a free copy of this book from the authors, and this is my honest review.
