In this LGBT+ high school romantic comedy, a nerd and a delinquent find themselves attracted to each other, but only when they're crossdressing at a maid cafe!

Shuumei has a problem. He's in love with a girl who works at a maid cafe, but he's too cool to go into a place like that without being embarrassed. But girls can go to maid cafes without seeming creepy, right? When he dresses in feminine clothes and transforms himself into Mei, he can finally walk into the place to meet the girl of his dreams: the lovely blonde Hana. Meanwhile, Hanae is an introverted otaku who's uncomfortable talking to people...unless he's dressed in feminine clothes himself. While decked out in his best dresses, he works at a maid cafe, and finds himself crushing on a young woman who regularly comes to visit him: a cool beauty named Mei! In this delightful LGBT+ romcom, two young people in love are about to find out a lot about each other--and themselves.

Crossplay conundrum! Hana and Mei continue their mutual (and secret) infatuations, but other people turn out to be equally vulnerable to their charms. And are the boys getting closer in their regular lives as well?

This series is pretty charming for being so slight and occasionally annoying. The juxtaposition of the very female presenting Hana and Mei being all over one another (in their dreams) while occasionally interacting at school is pretty fun.

Look, I have to say it - I really don’t think Kanoko adds absolutely anything to this series, which is why it’s frustrating that this clearly gay delinquent (I guess that’s a blow for equal representation or something) gets so much time being a creepy weirdo with Mei because of his “hilarious” fixation on Shuumei.

There’s a better way to (re)present that character, but I’d argue that there’s a better way to do this series as a whole. But, lest you think I’m too curmudgeonly, I do enjoy this for what it is. It’s certainly not top-tier, but if you came for what’s promised on the cover I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The face game, especially, is way up this volume and manga face game can save a series so seeing the author busting out the expressions here is great. From the ungodly number of bleeding incidents on Mei to Hana (and Hanae) either crumbling to ash or having the most deadpan looks, this aspect is pure joy throughout the book.

Things are at their best when the story is focusing on our leads, which is part of why the endless entanglements don’t necessarily make for a better story. Somewhat hypocritically, I am looking forward to the one promised next volume, but that’s a play on tropes I’m looking forward to.

It’s just a fact that Hana and Mei (and Hanae and Shuumei) are too much fun together and that makes it more obvious when they aren’t around or things are going down these endless side paths. They haven’t done enough heavy lifting with that relationship yet, for my money, and what we get here is often so enjoyable that I miss it when it isn’t there.

There’s also a ton of bonus content in this one, of varying quality, though the best one is probably the cafe having yet another themed event. And if you thought the nurse outfits were something, well, this one’s a hoot and capped off with an obvious, yet still great, punchline from Hana.

3 stars - solid work. Yeah, there are some issues here, so it’s probably never going to be a favourite or anything, but I certainly don’t begrudge the time I spend reading it and am looking forward to seeing where it all goes.

This is honestly such a cute series, but I'm stuck with most of the same reactions from the first volume. Since this one was originally published in 2019 in Japan, I took a quick peek at Tooru's twitter to see what progress had been made over the years, and the latest updates looked...kind of the same?

Maybe I shouldn't expect this series to develop into a full-blown love story with an actual happy ending (or any ending?). That's a little bit of a bummer, honestly, because I really liked the scene with Hanae and Shuumei interacting with each other as themselves for the first time. I'm excited about that kind of development, with the two of them getting to know and like each other without all the wigs and makeup in the way.

I'm having fun with it, though, and enjoying all of the characters and their ridiculous sets of friends. So I don't mind sticking with it for a while as a light-hearted series that may or may not go anywhere substantial.

One note: I did appreciate that Hana(e) felt sad about (shuu)Mei describing an ideal partner who wasn't like Hanae at all: cheerful, bubbly, etc. That was my major issue with the first volume, because Shuumei currently isn't falling in love with Hanae, whereas everything Hanae likes about Mei-chan is 100% Shuumei's rough around the edges but kind personality.

Which is why it's so important for Shuumei to start liking Hanae's personality, too...but we'll see how that goes.

Will definitely keep getting new volumes as they come out, and hopefully it keeps some forward momentum and doesn't start churning into the same jokes/scenarios on a loop.

Kanoko is still wearing on my nerves. I know this is a comedy series, but his stalking people isn't funny.

I'm enjoying Hanae|Hana and Shuumei|Mei slowly coming to appreciate each other as their real identities more, though they're still clueless. Also, Mei interacting with Hanae, Hanae bringing himself to talk to Shuumei as himself, and Yuzuru watching some of this and thinking, "You dumbasses." Nakamura has potential. I still don't care about Udon and his cosplay.

I don't even know what geometric shape could describe the current romantic interest configuration, with .

I appreciate that the series lets us know how both of these boys know how to apply makeup in a way that makes them look feminine and good, but my major wondering is if Hanae's boss at the maid cafe knows his true identity. I mean, he has to, right, just to hire and pay him?

This series is just so cute! I read this volume in one sitting and I can't wait to get my hands on Volume 3. The slow-burn romance and humor are right up my alley. Seeing Hanae and Shuumei interact without their disguises was so much fun, and I loved the introduction of Hanae's sister. Yuzuru's seeing right through them adds an exciting twist.

This series has quickly become one of my favorites!

My feelings are largely unchanged! Still a lot of cute fun, but I worry that might be the upper limit of what this book can provide. We'll see though, because my kid is addicted and we share books haha. I did enjoy my time with it though, maybe the new dynamic in the next volume will shake things up!

I must be going insane, because the ability to pirate read this online caused me to reinstall my phone adblocker and binge through four volumes in two days. This is REALLY fun, even if I know it's not going to go anywhere transgender or possibly even gay for me. The pain is neverending but so are the laughs! Oh well.

Two cross-dressing boys who have fallen for each other as girls, but don't know it. Pretty simple to see how all the complications are going to go, but it's fun watching it all fall out. Also, enjoying the friend who has figured it all out but doesn't want to spoil anything by revealing secrets.

Closer to 3.5 stars. This volume features a character who stalks one of the main characters. It's made to look like relatively normal behavior for him to follow around and bother this character. While this is a fun series, this aspect really bothers me.

I agree with other people in saying that "Kanoko rubs me in all the wrong ways"
and sorry, but his design is repulsive to me. I hate that godforsaken tied up shirt and the way his body is drawn bugs me and grosses me out

I like how in each volume you get to know all the supporting characters as well as yuuma (hana) and shuumei (mei). This series reminds me a bit of mabusasa which I love.

Not as enjoyable as the first volume. Some of the characters looked so similar I couldn't tell them apart. I won't be reading the next volume.
