I loved that this book had a unique storyline with a truly heroic hero and a heroine who is the definition of a strong, resilient, intelligent woman. We learn the hero’s secret right from the beginning and for that time period, it is really a huge issue. That is a time where the slightest affliction caused one to be shut away – either on a country estate or in an asylum – or more dire consequences. That was a real threat and I appreciated how the author showed the consequences of a problem that today we don’t even think twice about. The heroine’s secrets are revealed more slowly throughout the book, so don’t get impatient (as I did). I liked that the information came out in increments rather than in one big ‘reveal’ moment toward the end. Truly, this is a unique story and I enjoyed it. *** BTW – there is more than one romance in this book and the minor romance is sweet too.
I don’t know who wrote the book blurb, but to me, the part about the heroine isn’t anywhere near the view I got as I read the book. I know that it would be hard to write the heroine’s part of the blurb without giving away plot points but – well – I just thought it was way off base.
The opening scene of the book is great. It takes our hero, Guy Neville, from the ecstasy of his mistress’s arms, to rejection, to total abject fear and grief. The descriptions of his reactions are perfect – you absolutely feel his fear and his deep, deep grief as he learns that his brother has unexpectedly died – and now he is the new Earl of Argyle.
Guy has been most fortunate in his choice of friends. Kit was his batman during the wars and he helped keep Guy’s secrets. Guy was a brilliant tactician, but he could neither read nor write and Kit took care of all of that for him. When Guy was severely wounded (almost died) and had to leave the military, Kit came with him. They protected each other in war – and now they protect each other in the civilian world.
Abigail Pinehurst arrived at the Argyle estate a bit over a year after Guy had inherited. Before he died, Guy’s brother had granted permission for her to search the estate for the rare Ghost Orchid so she could draw/paint it for her benefactor. You’ll love the scene where Guy first meets Abigail.
Abigail has huge secrets – painful secrets – that could ruin her and her sister, Dora. She cannot allow those secrets to come out – even if it means being a spy for the despicable Mr. Patrick Neville – cousin to Guy. She’ll do all she can to wriggle away from Patrick, but she’s pretty sure there is no way to do that.
The book is fast-paced and filled with threats and danger. I loved that once Abigail realized how honorable and trustworthy Guy was, she decided to trust him and never went back on that. So many heroines are written to be wishy-washy and Abigail wasn’t that way. Good move by the author.
I thought the resolution was a little too quick and too pat. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a blood-thirsty wench and loved what happened, it just seemed too quick and out-of-the-blue. I also had a bit of an issue with the disparity between the status of the hero and the heroine and it was not believable. It is implausible even in today’s world, so I definitely have trouble buying it in the Regency world.
I definitely recommend this book because there are so many things to love about it. The hero is what all heroes should be – as is the heroine. I liked that both of them had been through so much, but neither was bitter nor had they lost the ability to love or trust. They were both stronger for what they endured as children and adults. Definitely, a must read.

I can’t decide between a 4 or 5. The dilemma is that Bronwen Evans is a problematic author for me. On one hand I absolutely love her books. The stories are always romantic with a good dose of danger and mystery. The MC’s are always perfect for each other and I am always desperate for the next book in the series.
On the other hand her hero’s are always huge rakes and there are always sex scenes with other women ( usually before meeting the heroine). I hate scenes with OW since these are supposed to be romance books. Luckily her books are so good that I am able to overlook these scenes. Her hero’s are honorable and good men and that helps.
So what I didn’t like:
• the scene at the beginning with widowed Lady whatshername. I honestly can’t remember because she was never brought up again. This was completely unnecessary. It served no purpose whatsoever. This book did not need that extra sex scene. I would expect that if I was reading smut and I do read it on occasion. I just feel that romance novels don’t need these cheap, contrived sex scenes with OW, they are better than that.
• I thought the romance moved a little too fast. I would have liked the hero and heroine to spend more time together getting to know each other while looking for the ghost orchid.
• things resolved themselves rather quickly and neatly. I would have liked to see them work together to resolve things. I also would have liked to see Abigail and Guy’s mother work things out.
What I did like:
• the heroine wasn’t a virgin!! And not only was the heroine not a virgin but she had taken lovers and enjoyed sex!!! We don’t see that enough in historical romance and I understand it’s the time these authors are writing about, but I am so sick of the rake and the virgin stories. Give me an ex prostitute for a heroine any day.
• the story itself! This was a great storyline. I absolutely loved it. I love that they had both been through so much yet came out stronger on the other side. They also realized that love could help them heal. It may not sound like it after the ranting but I really loved this book.
So I guess I’m going to go 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
Safety: after the one scene in the first chapter there are no safety issues.

Incredible
This series has Lords who have a range of disabilities such as a PTSD in the first book, second book the lord is suffering from narrow vision, and this book the hero can't read.
Everyone deserves to be loved despite their flaws. And disabilities.
This series is definitely a must read for anyone who is looking for flawed heroes.

A pleasing read!
Guy Neville finds himself suddenly The Earl of Argyle, a happenstance he did not expect or want. His secret will come out. Guy cannot read or write. Abused by his father for this disability, Guy is wracked with shame and despair. How can he take his place in the House of Lords with this impairment? The situation's not helped by the fact that there's a dastardly cousin waiting in the wings to use any excuse to take over the Earldom. Guy fears exposure.
And then there's Miss Abigail Pinehurst. An unusual woman, something of a bluestocking and a botanical artist who wants to use the Argyle Library and study a rare plant that's part of the estate.
Of course these two will get together and put in place a plan to maintain the illusion of Guy being able to carry on as Earl.
The getting to that place makes for a lively read.

I give ATTRACTED TO THE EARL by author Bronwen Evans a 4 star rating. It is the latest installment in her IMPERFECT LORDS series which consists of three books, ADDICTED TO THE DUKE, DRAWN TO THE MARQUESS and ATTRACTED TO THE EARL. I really didn't get into ATTRACTED TO THE EARL until over halfway through the book. That is the point where we start to delve deeper into the two main characters, Abigail and Guy. Finally their pasts are revealed and they are so tragic. To have overcame the things they did only shows what strong, brave, resilient people they both are. Historical romance readers will not want to miss Ms. Evans's IMPERFECT LORDS series.

I was hoping to be able to jump into an historical romance to see what all the craze was about. They are constantly recommended to me, so I knew I wanted to give it a try.
Unfortunately, I don't think I was either intrigued enough with the flow of this one, or if the "voice" wasn't working for me. Either way, I wasn't able to finish it so I had to step away. The writing did feel catatonic/slow in some areas because I had a hard enough time staying focused on the book, the characters, and the storyline, and not wanting to rush through to see if anything was really going to happen.
To be honest, I didn't really get a warm fuzzy feeling reading it. I didn't feel a connection with the characters, nor was I able to feel any real emotion coming from them or for them. I also didn't connect with the style of writing. Again, I am not sure if it was the actual voice or the storyline, but either way it didn't work for me. I will try to give HR another go, but I am not entirely sure that I am going to rush into it again.

Attracted to the Earl by Bronwen Evans is book Three in the Imperfect Lords Series. This is the story of Guy Neville and Abigail Pinehurst. I have read the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Guy never thought he would have to take his brother's (or Father's) title as The Earl of Argyle, but now his brother has died. So it now on his shoulders to carry on the Estate, Title and the spot in the House of Lords, but Guy has a secret. Guy has a hard time learning so he can't read or write which he has kept secret but now it will surly come out. Then a bluestocking in the name of Abigail comes to his door asking for use of his library and wanting to find a special plant. At first he thinks to turn her away... she may be a spy for his cousin to find out what he is hiding.
Abigail and her sister Dora, are orphans who only really have each other. Abigail is being threaten by Guy's cousin to find out what Guy is hiding or he will ruin them.
Really enjoyed their story and this touching subject of the learning issue.

After suffering years of abuse at his father's hands due to his inability to read or write, Guy Neville ran away to join the army and returned a war hero desperate to hide his secret shame. When his beloved elder brother suddenly dies, leaving Guy as the Earl of Argyle, he must now take up all of his brother's responsibilities and somehow still keep his secret. His despicable and jealous cousin, Patrick, knows the family is hiding something and is determined to find out what and preferably set himself up with the earl's wealth and maybe even his title to go with it.
The arrival of a bluestocking who wants to search the estate for a rare flower presents Guy with new challenges to hiding his secret. But the visit was prearranged before his brother's death so he feels he must honor it, though he'd rather send her away. It also doesn't hurt that Miss Abigail Pinehurst is beautiful.
Abigail's passion is plants and sketching them for her benefactress has enabled her to make a stable living and provide for herself and her sister, Dora. She finds herself attracted to the Earl, though she knows she can never have a man so far above her in station. Not to mention the fact that she has her own secrets to keep and she's being blackmailed by the vile Patrick. As she succumbs to the earl's charms she must decide who to put her trust and faith in and who is most capable of protecting her and Dora.
Poor Guy had it rough and his resilience was admirable. I also loved that he wasn't so blinded by Abigail's beauty and was still smart enough to be suspicious. When the two started working as a team this became a very suspenseful double romance with the budding relationship between Dora and Guy's right hand man, Kit. The last half was fraught with tension and a well-drawn, nasty villain. These two had some of the most painful backgrounds of any characters I've read in some time and it was lovely to see them heal and grow together.

Guy becomes an earl upon the untimely death of his brother. Guy harbors a secret that he worries could cost him his estate and freedom - and possibly send him to asylum.
Abigail grew up an orphan and lives for studying and drawing plants. She goes to Guys estate to draw the elusive ghost orchid.
Guy and Abigail both have a lot of baggage and secrets. I liked that these were revealed in pieces as the book went on, instead of slammed together at the end. However, I feel like because of all the extra things going on, they remained virtual strangers in the story. I felt like they didn’t spend a lot of time getting to know each other. It was more of an attraction at first sight feeling. There’s deception and mistrust coming into play, but they didn’t have a problem sharing their bodies with each other, and that felt very wrong. I can’t enjoy the physical side unless the emotional connection is there, and I didn’t feel it in this book. There’s a side story with Abigail’s sister Dora that I think takes away page time from the main characters who desperately needed it.
I also didn’t like how the problem came between them of their class differences and it being a huge obstacle in their relationship, then it was basically ignored at the end.
Overall I felt like this book had just way too much going on for there to be a focus on the romance. However if you like an action packed book with lots of bombshell revelations, this might be a hit for you. Sadly for me, it was not my cup of tea.

Abigail grew up an orphan and lives for studying and drawing plants. She goes to Guys estate to draw the elusive ghost orchid.
Guy and Abigail both have a lot of baggage and secrets. I liked that these were revealed in pieces as the book went on, instead of slammed together at the end. London 1816 The loss of his brother, left Guy wanting to scream for the unfairness of it all. Now he was the Earl of Argyle and how would he cope with that? "He couldn't read, for God's sake. He was stupid. An idiot." My heart became engaged immediately with Guy and I could almost feel his anguish. Bronwen Evans is a master at creating characters that pull at the emotions and bring you into their world. To see what was endured in times past that is taken in stride today is difficult at best.
Of course Guy's cousin Patrick would be looking for anything to take the title from him due to his jealousy.

This was a good book and reminded me why I had liked this author..We have a second son who is forced to become an Earl when his brother dies. Guy is a soldier that is what he is good at and his background story just breaks your heart. Luckily he has a best friend Kit that is there for him as he is to him. He has an evil cousin Patrick who is looking for dirt to take the Earldom from him and blackmails Abigail into finding out what secret Guy has, this guy is a snake. Abigail and Guy are attracted to each other but both know that they will not suit, since she is a low on the totem pole and now Guy is an Earl..We have secrets, heartbreak,and eventually redemption..Enjoy!

Attracted to the Earl by Bronwen Evan
4.5 Stars. A well-researched and beautifully written story with vivid characters, and a gripping storyline. This historical story is filled with emotional angst, secrets, danger, deception, intrigue, adventure, passion and steamy romance that kept me reading until the last page! As I was reading I thought the plot was transparent, then the author threw in a creative curve ball at the end that was truly cleaver! I loved and recommend this book.

I loved Guy and Abigail's story!
Guy has just inherited his title after the death of his brother. Never wanting the title, he now has to worry that the secret he has been hiding his whole life will become exposed. When Abigail arrives, he wonders if his abhorrent cousin has sent her to discover his secret.
Abigail arrives at Guy's home on a mission to find a flower and draw it. At least that is what she tells him and it's not a lie. She just doesn't tell him the other part of her mission, she has been sent by Guy's cousin to find out what Guy's secret is. She doesn't want to do it, but the man had threatened her and her sister and she'll never allow her sister to be harmed. Will she be able to go through with her mission, or will Guy figure out the truth? And if he does, what will he do?
Being a teacher, it killed me to hear Guy call himself stupid for not being able to read and write. Nowadays, we can diagnose learning disabilities and give child help to learn to read and write, but what Guy had to go through from his father was horrible!! Abigail's early life wasn't much much better. I think because of what they went through as children, they could sense a commonality with the other and that just made the attraction they felt for one another, that much stronger. I loved watching these two come together!! I hope that Evan is not done with this series as I have throughly enjoyed it!

Wow! Bronwen Evans ALWAYS delivers!
I always look forward to her books.
My only complaint is I devour the book and then I want more! Her characters feel like friends and she wraps you up in her stories. Amazing author and another great read!!

He has an inability to read or write. Miss Abigail Pinehurst is a gifted artist & agreed with Reginald to draw a rare orchid, however she’s being blackmailed by Patrick Neville to find out Guy’s secret.
Another page turning engrossing read. This is the third book in the series but could easily be read on its own, however if like me you love series I’d recommend reading from the start. A well written book with characters that have plenty of depth. The pace is very good, there’s secrets, intrigue, heart breaking revelations & of course romance. I felt for both Guy & Abigail & how they were treated as children & loved that they’d both had the strength to rise above their treatment & to have become strong loving people There’s also a second romance which is also satisfying

Good book with an unusual hero and a heroine who turns out to be the perfect match. Guy is the second son of an earl and never expected to inherit the title. Severely abused as a child by his father, he ran away to join the army when he was fourteen. After 15 years and a brilliant career, declared a hero for his abilities as a tactician, he is back home. Guy is devastated when he receives word that his beloved older brother is dead, and terrified by what it could mean for him. Guy knows that his inability to read and write if revealed could see him stripped of his title and lands and even thrown into an asylum. His cousin Patrick Neville has tried for years to discover what secret the family is hiding, determined to take it all for himself. Guy's saving grace is his best friend and former army batman, Kit, provides Guy with the assistance he needs. The arrival of Abigail, invited by his brother to use the library and study the elusive Ghost Orchid, adds another complication as someone he must hide his disability from.
Abigail is unwillingly involved in Patrick's plans. Her plan to find and sketch the Ghost Orchid is real, and her motivation for visiting Lord Argyle's estate. Unfortunately, Abigail has secrets of her own that would ruin her life and that of her sister Dora if revealed. Patrick has discovered those secrets and blackmails Abigail into spying on Guy and finding out his secrets.
I really liked both Guy and Abigail. The things that Guy experienced growing up could have made him a hard and bitter man. Instead, he is an honorable man with a heart. I ached for the way he was made to feel stupid and horrified by what his father did to him. I was also incredibly impressed by the techniques he has learned to compensate for his disability. Abigail also had a terrible childhood, experiencing things that no young girl should have to experience. Her story is revealed slowly, and though I suspected the truth early on, it did not diminish the impact. She is intelligent, determined, and protective.
I enjoyed the first meeting between Guy and Abigail. Each of them was bowled over by the other. I had to laugh at the way Kit ended up elbowing Guy to break the trance, and Abigail gave herself a stern talking-to. But in spite of his fascination and attraction, Guy still felt a niggle of suspicion over the timing of her arrival, as well as later when he found her near his study. I was impressed by Abigail's quick thinking. Over the next couple of days, they spent some time together, and it doesn't take long for a tentative friendship to build along with some fantastic chemistry. As Abigail begins to suspect Guy's secret, she also can't deny that he is a kind and honorable man. I loved how she chose to tell Guy and Kit the truth.
The pace of the story picked up as the three of them worked together to bring an end to Patrick's plans. There was an attempt on Guy's life that they were confident Patrick was behind. His arrival at Argyle ramped up the intensity as we saw his threats against Abigail and Dora. I definitely felt the waves of hatred toward Guy, and the evil of his intentions was apparent. I felt their hopefulness as they laid their trap for Patrick and their fear as they discovered his abduction of Dora as a bargaining chip. Though Dora had previously seemed to be a somewhat naïve young woman, she proved to be much stronger and smarter than I expected. I cheered that determination and rooted for her success.
All through this time, the feelings between Guy and Abigail grew stronger. Abigail has no hope of anything coming from it because of who she is and what she was hiding in her past. Guy wants to believe that he can make it happen. But when Patrick finds a way to threaten Guy's hold on his title and lands, it takes all of them plus the help of two of his good friends to counter the threat. I loved Guy's protectiveness toward Abigail and how he was willing to give up his dreams to keep her safe. Abigail is just as determined to protect Guy and his dreams, and I loved seeing her do what she felt was right.
I was a little disappointed in the resolution, as I would have liked to see a different outcome for Patrick (not that he didn't deserve what he got). The way it happened was an interesting and unexpected twist. I liked how Guy's friends helped him and Abigail find a way to be together. The epilogue was a nice wrap-up.
There was also a sweet secondary romance between Guy's friend Kit and Abigail's Dora. The attraction between them was also immediate. I enjoyed seeing the two of them together, as Dora did her best to tempt him, and Kit held tight to his honor and resisted her. He was very fierce when she was in danger and so proud of her when she escaped.

Attracted to the Earl is the third book in Bronwen Evans' Imperfect Lords series. I missed the first one, but I very much enjoyed her second installment. However, this book I LOVED. Seriously, I picked it up yesterday morning, and by the evening I was done. My face was puffy from crying. (My husband doesn't understand this. "Why are you reading it if it makes you cry?" Men just don't get it!)
Guy Neville is the new Earl of Argyle. He should never have become the earl; his hateful father died (probably burning in hell, or so Guy wishes) and his beloved older brother took the title. However, his brother died of a burst appendix, so Guy inherited the title. This is not a good thing, as Guy is illiterate. He could not learn to read no matter how many times his father beat him. His former batman from the army and now his man of affairs Kit has helped Guy cover this big secret. Trouble looms, though... His cousin Patrick suspects something is amiss, and he wants to become trustee of the earldom so he can take charge of the funds and use them for himself. He blackmails artist Miss Abigail Pinehurst to discover Guy's secrets.
I loved both of the leads in this story. Abigail did not want to do this job for Patrick, but she had shameful secrets of her own from her past that she did not want to see the light of day; she would lose everything, including her beloved sister Dora, if that happened. Guy, though brilliant (he could remember entire documents word for word if they were read to him once!), still suffers from the abuse from his childhood and cannot risk losing his earldom. These two damaged people needed each other to make them whole. The intimate scenes between them were incredibly sensual. There was also a lovely, sweet romance between Dora and Kit, which was a nice addition to the story. This was truly a story that pulled at my heartstrings and made me cry like a baby.

I can attest that this novel can easily be read as a standalone, simply for the fact that I had not read the previous two books in the series and had little to no confusion. However, I do plan on going back at a later date to read the series from the beginning, then reread this novel, which will give me a better idea if it was a more enriched experience for doing so.
The pacing was something I appreciated the most by Evans. Both our heroine and hero hold secrets. Guy's secret was revealed from the get-so, which satisfied my instant gratification level of curiosity. While Abigail's secrets were slowly revealed, hand-feeding the reader to keep them turning the pages to find out.
Imperfect and resilient. Not only is Guy mourning the passing of his late brother, he is now tasked with taking control of his legacy. Maintaining a large estate, accepting all the responsibility of a title, while taking his seat in the House of Lords. There is only one major issue for Guy... he has a learning disability. In today's times, that isn't a big issue, how Guy struggles to read or write, but in that era, people were institutionalized for far less. They most certainly didn't have positions of great power, so he must keep his learning disability close to the vest.
A sketch artist who specializes in detailing plants, Abigail is an empowered woman in that era, her career offering a stable life for her and her sister. Cerebral. Loyal. Abigail would do anything to protect her way of life, as she and her sister are orphans. But then she's blackmailed into finding dirt on Guy by a cousin seeking to usurp his title, which is the very thing that Guy assumes when he meets Abigail.
While both intelligent, not necessarily driven by lust, attraction, or emotion, Guy and Abigail are still drawn together, even under a cloud of suspicion. Their romance isn't the driving force of the novel, but it will most definitely keep the reader interested who is primarily there for romance, as will the secondary coupling of Dara (Abigail's sister) and Kit (Guy's right-hand man)
Attracted to the Earl was a strong introduction to this author for me, one that will have me checking out Bronwen Evan's backlist while biding my time to read what she has to offer next.

While both intelligent, not necessarily driven by lust, attraction, or emotion, Guy and Abigail are still drawn together, even under a cloud of suspicion. Their romance isn't the driving force of the novel, but it will most definitely keep the reader interested who is primarily there for romance, as will the secondary coupling of Dara (Abigail's sister) and Kit (Guy's right-hand man)
Attracted to the Earl was a strong introduction to this author for me, one that will have me checking out Bronwen Evan's backlist while biding my time to read what she has to offer next.

This suspenseful Regency romance hooked my attention from the opening chapter right through to the end, so that I was unable to put the book down. Guy became an unwilling Earl after the death of his brother, but with the threat of his unscrupulous heir snapping at his heels, he recognizes the need to keep his Earldom and the livelihood of those who depend on him, safe. Guy has experienced more than his fair share of horror, both in his early years and throughout the war, but it has also made him a stronger and more honorable man, in spite of a disability for which there was little sympathy and that was totally misunderstood in that era. However, like most people with his condition, he compensated in other ways and is in fact, quite brilliant. The arrival of Abigail puts Guy in a spin, nevertheless, he did not win his reputation as an uncanny strategist in the war by being blind to the facts. Her arrival at his estate puts a question mark over Abigail's unexpected appearance, especially as his cousin's arrival will come close on its heels. Abigail is being blackmailed into snooping by the same cousin and fear of exposure and the safety of her own small family is also at stake. Through it all, Guy and Abigail find they have more in common than they would have thought, and whilst their attraction for one another grows, so does their mutual respect. They, in fact, need each other. Unfortunately, the gulf that divides them is wide and deep, and the question remains whether or not it can be crossed. He can't read or write, despite having tutors and going to school. This problem causes him to think less of himself despite being brilliant in other ways. He was hated and almost killed by his father who thought Guy wasn't worthy to live so he joined the military as a young man to get away from him.. He has a couple of friends who are always there to lend a hand. Patrick, the cousin of Guy knows that something is wrong with him and will find out so he can inherit the estate. Patrick is so desperate to get it that he will do anything . Even if it means having him admitted to an asylum. Patrick hires Abigail to find out this secret. Abigail and her younger sister , Dora are staying at Guy's estate to sketch the Ghost Orchids which is the truth and a ruse. Abigail has another secret that could destroy her life. She knows that Guy will never accept her when he knows the full truth. When Guy and Abigail get close and fall in love, she tells him about Patrick. Will Guy be able to accept the truth and history of Abigail 's past or is it too much? When Patrick sues to get the estate, will be be successful? I loved this story of people living and loving that are imperfect and survive anyway. I loved this book and can't wait the read the rest of them. WOW! Just WOW! This was exceptionally written ! Bronwen Evans has written a GEM of a story with flawed characters that have overcome tragedy and found love.
Our hero Guy is a war hero with a secret, after his brothers untimely death he gains the title Earl of Argyle. But he has a secret that his father tortured and almost had him killed because of his affliction. Life hasn’t been easy for him, surviving the horrors of war he now has to survive his cousins machinations to have him either killed or take over the Earldom by uncovering his secret. Not knowing who’s friend or foe the tempting Miss Abigail has him wondering if she can be in league with his cousin. But Abigail has secrets of her own that she’d do anything to keep from being exposed. If only she wasn’t so attracted to Guy!
This was such a roller coaster ride of emotions, it was one of the best books that I’ve read by Bronwen Evans in my opinion. Fraught with dangers, secrets and villains. A scared hero and even more scared heroine find their happily ever after! I highly recommend this amazing book by the talented Bronwen Evans not to be missed!

A story of learning to love oneself flaws and all, Attracted to the Earl by Bronwen Evans flowed well, was engaging and had one helluva unexpected twist I didn’t see coming.
Guy is honorable, kind and understanding. Not to mention passionate. But he feels inadequate to fill his late brother’s shoes due to his affliction.
Guy’s mother has asked him to pull out his charm and help her in hopes of persuading Miss Abigail Pinehurst to work for her.
As Abigail and Guy spend time together in search of the Ghost Orchid, the connection between them grows.
But what can happen between an earl and a commoner? Will they be able to share their secrets? Or, will their secrets be too much to overcome for both of them?
I really enjoyed this book. The intimate scenes were hot and heavy. The characters were down to earth but had dark and troubled pasts.
Once their histories were revealed, I wanted more. It was like they only shared the most basic of their dark histories. The detail, to me, is important. They have so much pain and darkness from their pasts and I feel like they didn’t unburden it all to each other.
I wanted this author to explore their pasts more. It is such a huge part of who they’ve become. These were dark topics and I feel as though they were skimmed over. Delving into the background of these characters could have made this a powerful and stellar read.
I did really enjoy the epilogue. It was sweet and endearing. I also really liked the secondary romance between Kit and Dora.
This was a heartfelt read but lacked the depth in the character’s history and the resolution I was hoping for

Attracted To The Earl is an outstanding historical romance by Bronwen Evans. Ms. Evans has once again given readers a well-written book. I especially loved the cast of characters she's used for this story. Kudos to Ms. Evans, the characters are imperfect but lovable. Guy finds himself unexpectedly becoming the Earl of Argyle. Because of his secret, he doesn't believe he'll ever marry. Abigail is an artist with secrets of her own. She arrives at Guy's estate to paint the Ghost Orchid. Abigail and Guy's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. Every page of this book is a treat to read and I look forward to my next book by Bronwen Evans. Attracted To The Earl is book 3 of the Imperfect Lords Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I loved Abigail and Guy. They were both raised by an abusive parent and came out of it better people.
Guy was always told by his father that he was stupid and wouldn't amount to much because he couldn't read. He has an amazing memory, but he just can't read. After his father tried to kill him when he was 14, he left and went into the Army. Abigail was raised by the madam of a brothel and sold to men when she was 12. They have both fought hard to be better than their parents. When Guy's brother died, he became the Earl. With the help of a good friend, he is able to make people think he can read. When an ambitious cousin finds out Guy's secret, he tries to become the person to control the estate and have Guy declared unfit to do it. Abigail has her secrets too, but Guy is trying everything to get her to marry him. If anyone discovers her secret, it would disgrace not only her, but Guy and his family too. She needs to leave Guy so she won't bring shame to him and his family. Will he be able to convince her that he doesn't care? Will they be able to be together?

I think that this is my current favorite Bronwen Evans book. Two strong main characters. Loved the heroine, Abigail, and the hero, Guy. I felt myself fully immersed in their tale. Fantastic writing drawing out my emotions and really routing for these two. I liked the sub-story too, about Dora and Kit. The characters/situations of the times felt real. Abigail and Guy come from two different social castes; yet, they are so similar in the hardships/stigmas that they endured throughout their lives. Now, as Guy is forced to assume the title, his cousin Patrick has other ideas; like getting his hands on the title and all it entails. Abigail is not your usual young miss as we find in numerous historical romances. This takes place during the reign of King George III and after the Seven Year's War. Abigail has a questionable background and Guy has a learning disability. So, of course we want to see these two find each other, right?

It's a very cute historical story about a young woman who is setting up a school and a sadly misguided earl who has a busybody aunt who is scared about what adding the school to the neighborhood would mean. I actually didn't know before this book that city zoning was so strictly enforced, so that was interesting. It's a charming romance, I felt.
