Dead Revenge: The Mystery of Devil Station

Rate this book
Desperate to save his wife. Alone against a murderous outlaw and his cult of followers. Can one man bring justice, or will he die trying?

The Man in the White Mask, a violent outlaw, and his cult of followers toil in the shadows of 1860's California. Whispers swirl about their plot to rebuild the Confederate cause while they hide at the mysterious "Devil Station," a ghost town in the desert. They remain at large, peddling violent fear, with no one brave enough to challenge them or the corrupt lawmen they keep.

When the masked tyrant steals a man's wife and leaves him for dead, this man—"the stranger"—takes it upon himself to bring justice by any means necessary.

Do the stranger and his rag-tag group of companions—a disheartened sheriff, vengeful freedman, and cunning young woman—have what it takes? Or are they too late?

Fans of Elmore Leonard's Hombre, 3:10 to Yuma, Joe Kidd, and Ian Flemming's James Bond series will love this thriller-mystery.Readers are saying…

Beautifully descriptive and action laced western

With an action packed opening sequence that leads into an intriguing read, Marco Muzzi has put together an awesome western tale that not only tributes classic cinema but also packs an intricate story. ‘The Man in the White Mask’ is a force that many are sought after, for revenge or even just answers and his mystique sits at the very core.

As a huge fan of westerns, those who are familiar with the genre will find it represented well here and for those who haven’t, this one makes for a great entry point as it has everything. Description is the true strength here and it is given to readers in huge doses through Muzzi’s writing. There were many sequences between dialogue that really become sensory, haunting and immersive making this a unique experience.

‘Two sluggish knocks rapped against the door. The servant standing before it did not move, but fear swept across his eyes. Two more knocks came. The servant by the door looked to the one behind the young woman and shrugged. He raised a shaking hand, and behind her, the young woman heard the other servant open the satchel and produce the knife…’

This is actually a really good page-turner that hits on the themes of delivering justice, fighting for love, and championing the little guy. There's a big twist in the middle which really shakes things up too! It also features a black protagonist (as one of three good guys), which isn't overtly mentioned anywhere, and I thought that was great, considering it's a western.

If you're looking for a satisfying mystery thriller that packs a punch, this is for you.
