August 1955,

When Miss Darcy O’Sullivan, an orphaned English teacher from Boston, receives a letter that her biological father passed away, she is surprised to find herself included in his will.
There is only one condition.
She must travel to Fairydale to attend his funeral.
With the promise of a sizable inheritance, Darcy decides to journey to the small coastal town that holds the secrets of her birth. But the moment she steps foot into Fairydale, things start to go amiss.
Odd residents. Odd rumors. Odd…deaths.
Everything about Fairydale is odd.
Including brooding Caleb Hale—part of the infamous Hale family.
During the day, she falls deeper and deeper under his spell as he forces her to step out of her comfort zone and embrace her inner sensuality.
But at night it’s another man who haunts her dreams—Amon d'Artan, a nobleman who lived two centuries ago.
Amon is sweet and suave where Caleb is intense and dangerous, and Darcy feels more torn than ever. Soon, she finds herself embroiled in a web of lies, deceit, and inexplicable events that make her question her sanity.

When an ancient evil threatens the town and everything Darcy holds dear, she must make the ultimate choice.

But will she survive it?

Fairydale is a dark gothic historical romance with horror, paranormal & fantasy elements. This is NOT a traditional love triangle. It features a villainous love interest that would end the world for his beloved and an all-encompassing love story spanning millennia. This is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. 6 MAGNIFICENT ⭐️’s without a doubt one of my favorite books of the year. I simply don’t even know where to begin. I don’t know how to form words to properly describe the masterpiece that is this book nor how to adequately articulate how it made me feel. This was INTOXICATING, a drug. Thinking about how much I love this book actually makes me want to cry because I’m so overwhelmed with emotions.

This was unlike anything I have ever read before. I’ve never read a love story that made me feel so deeply and had me entirely emotional invested from the start.

A mix of gothic, horror, fantasy and paranormal fiction with elements of history but at its very core it is truly a heart wrenching romance. Filled with longing, tension, pining, angst, heartbreak, and every emotion in between.

This story spans across 3 different timelines and will have you screaming “WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!!!” The entire time! It will simultaneously have you mind fucked and captivated. I cannot remember the last time I took my time to read every single last word on a page, savoring every moment in the hopes that it would never end.

In the town of Fairydale absolutely nothing is as it seems. Our FMC Darcy finds herself torn between the dark and twisted man she meets in Fairydale in 1955, and the nobleman who haunts her dreams 200 years in the past. As Darcy jumps between timelines she finds herself amidst a web of lies, deceit and secrecy and I simply cannot say anything more about the plot because you must go into this book blind.

Don’t even get me started on Amon. This man. THIS MAN!!! What is it about a Victoria era man that just hits so DIFFERENT!! This man is TRULY morally grey in a way that makes me absolutely feral. Nothing else matters to him but her. He is dark, obsessive, possessive, traumatized, intelligent, caring and my god the words that come out of his mouth are straight POETRY! The spice….. the spice!!!! I’m blushing just thinking about it.

This love story is the epitome of, I will find you in every lifetime…. I have waited 1000 years for you and I will wait 1000 more because you are worth it. I want to SCREAMMMMMMM

Favorite quotes
“Where you go, I go. If you exist so do I, and if you're not, nor am.”

"You're my fucking madness, the fever in my blood, a never fucking ending psychosis that leaves me breathless, helpless and so fucking weak with want for you."

"You make the blood in my veins boil with a need to possess you. To be the only man to ever touch your skin—to sear myself on your flesh."

"How could I want anyone else when I am only because you are? I exist for you just as I exist because of you."

“Until you, I thought life and suffering were synonymous."

“What if I told you that you're my entire reason for being? That you're why I wake up in the morning. Every goddamn day from the dawn of time until now. What if I told you that you belong to me in a way no woman ever belonged to a man? That I might be evil personified, but you're the only one I'll ever be good to.”

I’m gone. Dead. Soul left my body.

This book will not be for everyone but when it finds the right people I promise you this story will imprint on your very being.

time of death: pg. 379 💀
(@ only 49% … which is WILD considering how many pages i read)

pardon me, but this was just an absolute clusterfuck.

⟡ too dang long (764 pages)
⟡ too many grammatical/spelling errors
⟡ painfully naive fmc who is way too calm considering the circumstances
⟡ poor research — words and phrases were used by author that were not present during the time period of the book
⟡ mmc keeps licking (?!) the fmc’s face which is disgusting enough

and worst of all…

i cannot move past him going down on her while she is on her period and making a spectacle of enjoying the.. um… mess. NO. 🙂‍↔️

(edit: YES i read the trigger warnings and i am FINE with period play. it's the way in which the scene was executed that i did not enjoy. and let's not forget i have an entire review of other things i disliked besides the period play scene. i know this one sentence above is in bold but there's still multiple other things i didn't enjoy. and once again, to those in the comments, READING IS SUBJECTIVE. if you loved this book I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU. <3)

(edit (again): i DID also read spoilers for this book and i KNOW the scenes i mentioned have a purpose but i still do not regret DNF’ing and i saw the ‘twists’ coming from a mile away, sorry)

DNF @30%- I tried.

Alright, I had to let the caffeine start flowing through my veins this morning before I even attempted to say anything about this book...

First, when I initially went into this book- I'm not really sure where I got my expectations from but , well, let's say hope - I was hopeful that this story was going to have beautiful and lyrical prose; That it was going to be an epic love story spanning hundreds of years.

But no, that's not what I read in the 30% that I shoved down my throat.

The writing is bad. Like, there is so much internal monologue going on that I felt so trapped inside the FMC's head that I wanted to scream.

There is a lot of telling and no showing going on. And even the telling is very muddled. Look, I'm fine with an out there plot, a non linear storyline and almost everything 'unusual' or 'outside of the box' that you can throw at me - Olivie Blake and Erin Morgenstern are two of my favorite authors after all... if you've read any of their stories, you know what I mean.

But with this, the chapters are super long, the book is super long, nothing is making sense and I just don't have the patience to have to read over 300 pages before things actually start to fall into place. The horrible writing emphasized that lack of patience for sure.

The author says this is a slow burn but at 20% in the FMC already has two 'men' already pining for her, whispering sweet nothings and more or less proposing marriage or asking for her immortal soul.

And listen, I'm totally fine with a possessive male but these two - ugh. They treat her like an object and gaslight her and the reader the entire time.

So, slow burn perhaps in terms of banging but it's very instalove/lust.

The writing is always super repetitive- if I ever have to hear Lizzie Mine or Darcy Darlin' again I'll scream for real.

Unfortunately, I don't recommend this book at all 🚮 - however I probably have some better alternatives.

I had planned to read this last fall but it didn’t happen- just gonna go right on ahead and jump into it now, especially after Marianna’s review 😍

Please don’t disappoint, I need an amazing, gothic, romance, paranormal fantasy in my life right now 🙏🏻

I have no idea how to review this. It was so strange. So unnecessarily long and yet it somehow worked and made sense? You just gotta read to find out.

It's dark. It's gothic. It's a real slow burn and smutty with an actual intriguing plot- once you get used to the writing style and how every little detail, however mundane it seems, adds up to the story. I honestly loved the flashbacks and the past way more than the present.

The characters were so well written. Darcy was likable even though she frustrated me a little in the beginning. But it was wicked, wicked Amon for me who carried the book for me. I would honestly give all the stars just for him alone. He's so mysterious and sensual and the mouth on that man.. Oof.

The romance and slow burn, paired with yearning had me frustrated in the best ways possible. The chemistry between them is so intense, l absolutely ate it up. The steam and spice is so well written, it was like engaging in something forbidden, which I suppose that's how it was intended to be written.

I liked how it all wrapped up but it did have a dragging pace, which is why it's not a five star read for me. I would recommend checking trigger warnings first before anyone gives it a read tho, it's super dark. Overall, a fun read imo.

Thanks to beautiful Meg for reading it with me and yapping about it as I fangirled over Amon.

Darcy arrives at fairydale after finding out that she was listed in the will of her dead biological father where she meets the charming caleb hale yet dreams about a totally different man, the mysterious amon✨

crazy monster sex👹🔥🔥
mates😫
offering the H her blood to heal him <3
him eating dead mice bc she gave them to him and he didn’t want her to be sad🥹🥹
(MINOR SPOILER….context: he was disguised as a cat)
AND DID I MENTION???
the hero was faithful to her for more than a 1000 years!!!!!🤧🤍🦋
(more on this in the spoilers!)

plus, though the author classified this as an extreme slow burn, the romance starts on pretty early in the book its just a little confusing at first but nonetheless adorably wholesome 🥹👉🏼👈🏼
so don’t back out just bc you think its an extreme slow burn its just extremely confusing lol🤧👀😫

1955 — the current timeline

here after meeting Caleb, who is enigmatic, handsome, witty, fun to be around and a gentleman✨
did i mention he calls her Darcy Darlin’ 😭😭😭

AND THIS💗
"You're just a ray of sunshine, aren't you? Making everyone fall in love with you everywhere you go."
"F-fall in love?" I falter, afraid I didn't understand him right. "Yes, Darcy darlin'. That is exactly what I mean. I've fallen in love with you. Fast. Hard. So fucking deep. Like I never thought I would fall for someone," he confesses, his voice thick with emotion.

but as amazing caleb seems he is just as sus too, from finding numerous erotic paintings of herself to them suddenly disappearing when she asks about them to caleb one day losing control and almost like some obsessive psycho questioning darcy…
🌚🌚🌚

she goes back and forth with the dreams (where she sees herself as lizzie) and reality
falling for caleb in the day
and losing her heart to amon at night….
confused how she could ever have the same feelings for two guys???😶😶😶

SPOILERS

now what you might already know if you’ve read different reviews is the fact that amon and caleb are the SAME GUY

1789 — timeline from the dreams
lizzie’s story

one day after her arranged marriage has been fixed with some old guy, she meets Amon d’Artan
lordd even his name sounds downright delicious🤤😳😭

not only does he save her from her rapey fiance (by killing him ofc🫢) but he also leaves quite an impression on her
okay but come on any guy who speaks like this is bound to leave a freakin’ impression
"You called for me," he leans forward, whispering in my ear. "Your soul called for me. So make your wish.
What is it you want, Lizzie mine?"

LIZZIE MINE OMGGG🤧🤧🤧

After more than an year they finally meet again
"Have you missed me, Lizzie mine?"
um i missed you does that count!?🥺👉🏼👈🏼

AND THE WAY HE SPEAKS OMGGG😌😌
"You are the most beautiful sight I've ever seen, Lizzie," he compliments me as he draws me close.
"Never doubt that."

"I may not know everything about you, but I know your core, Lizzie mine.
And it's the most beautiful thing in existence."

🌻🌕🍯

now just as they are falling for each other and lizzie is about to have her first ever kiss with amon when her mother suddenly comes in and shoots amon……
now obviously he should’ve died but apparently he’s a demon👹👹👹

after some “recovery” time they meet yet again but this time lizzie was dancing with other men during a ball and lets just say amon wasn’t a fan🌝🌚
"You. Danced. With. Them," he says through gritted teeth, tension radiating from him. "You let other men touch you," he rasps. "Dance with you... You're killing me, Lizzie mine."
and when she asks him why he’s acting like this, what does she mean to him???
"What if I told you that you're my entire reason for being? That you're why I wake up in the morning. Every goddamn day from the dawn of time until now. What if I told you that you belong to me in a way no woman ever belonged to a man? That I might be evil personified, but you're the only one I'll ever be good to," he murmurs huskily, his voice coated with the most potent ambrosia.
who the hell gives a shit if this guy’s a demon i’d willingly sign my soul away if someone says that to me🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

and when one of the the guys from the ball gets a bit too comfortable with lizzie even though she doesn’t want it!
AMON RIPS HIM AND HIS DUMB FRIENDS APART🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

oh and their first time????
"Is that why you won't bed me? Because you're afraid to hurt me?" I ask softly. His jaw clenches as he gives me a brisk, pained nod.
so guess what this dude does???
HE PUTS CHAINS ON SO HE DOESN’T ACCIDENTALLY HURT HER⛓️⛓️🤍

and um he’s pierced✨🍆🙇‍♀️🦋😶
which btw is a tradition, as and i quote ”That is a symbol of my commitment to one woman for eternity.
which is just beyonddd adorableee🙌🏼🙌🏼

now bc lizzie’s mom hates amon’s guts cause he’s a demon and they are blah blah blah…so amon glamours his appearance and asks for lizzie’s hand in marriage and they both get married omggg😌😌
however sometime later lizzie’s sister and brother-in-law die in a mysterious accident leaving their 3 kids behind, who they ultimately adopt, and let me tell you if you thought amon was hot then him as a dad is just sexy times million!!!!🔥🔥🔥
and this conversation….
"May I have more potatoes?" Didi bats her lashes at me.
"Who did you learn that from?" I chuckle as I add more potatoes to her plate.
"You," she says pointedly. "You always do this when papa is around and he does whatever you say, isn't that true?"
She looks at Amon to confirm her words. My eyes widen as I turn to him too. His lips are curled up as he barely keeps his amusement in check.
"She is right, you know," he shrugs. "You only need to give me one of those looks and I'm your servant."

hjjkgdhjfjivkk😭😭😭😭😭

now fast forward a few years later where the kids are a bit grown (the sons are in their mid/early twenties and the daughter is a tween)…..disaster strikes
shit happens and well lizzie and one of the sons die (now i don’t wanna spoil this part a lot but this is what happens)
and AMON LOSES HIS MIND!!!!!!

back to timeline 1
darcy now remembers everything and realises that Caleb was Amon!!!!
she goes to find him and realises that he had been trapped for 200 years
and lets just say bad bitch mode activated💅🗡️🗡️
Everyone who's ever had a hand in hurting my beloved will pay. They need to suffer just as much as he has, wither in the same timeless torment that he has.

and when they meet again omgg
"That day... I was waiting for you. I kept waiting for you," a sob escapes me. "Even as my life was fading away, I was waiting for you because I knew you would always come. And you did come. You came for me." "Fuck. Fuck. Fuck," he curses, and before I know it, he pulls me towards him, burying his face in the crook of my neck and hugging me to him.
AWWWW🌸🌸🌸

oh and when everything is out in the open they have this convo which just made me cackleee💀💀💀
"You have no idea how confused I was with Caleb because how could I feel the same way about two different people? Maybe I was a little slow, or maybe I didn't want to admit what was in front of me. But even then, I felt it."
"Let's not mention that name again," he grumbles. "I think I'm traumatized from hearing you say it too many times."
"Amon!" I giggle. "Didn't you just say it's the essence that matters, not the name?"
"I'm a jealous man, darling," he admits with a weary sigh.
"You'll have to get used to this small flaw of mine, but I become quite rabid if anyone dares to sniff around you."
"Small flaw, huh?" I raise a brow in a playful manner. "I promise to refrain myself from killing them just for looking," he puts a hand up. "It's the most I can do. If they put a finger on you, then all bets are off," he smiles, quite pleased with himself.

HE’S SOO ADORABLE OMGGG🌸🌸🌸

MAJOR SPOILERS

now if you’ve read the quotes you’ll realise with the way amon talks to lizzie, it seemed like he was already in love with her since the first moment he saw her and maybe even knew her from before, which…..
IS TRUEEE💥💥💥

BECAUSE
BEFORE DARCY,
BEFORE LIZZIE

amon and sela aka the og version of the h✨

shy, sheltered h x “traitor” soldier out for revenge H😮‍💨👀
entirely different realm🔥
oh and remember when i told you amon was a demon yeah that was all bs, amon was actually a super badass almost extinct species called Reva⚔️
sela and amon were just so adorably chaotic together!!
"You're trying very hard to convince me you're not to be trusted, lovely Sela," he chuckles. "But say you were instructed to catch me here and seduce me. You'd be doing a rather poor job of it." My cheeks flame at his insult.
"W-what do you mean?"
"You thought a sword was poking you in the backside, lass. Need I say more?" he asks, amused.
"But there was a sword..." I reply lamely, embarrassment coloring me red from head to toe.

i think we all know what the “sword” was😏🫢🤧
and he used to call her sela mina
(sela mine) which honestly just made me bawl😭🤍🌸✨
really adorable flirting😮‍💨❤️‍🔥
"But I quite like you being possessive of your male like this." "Really?" I raise a brow. "Does it inflate that already gargantuan ego you have?"
"Ah, Sela mina," he opens his mouth in a wide smile, his tongue swiping over his white, sharp teeth.
"It inflates something for sure. Something like...my sword?
"Well," I clear my throat. "I am very glad your sword reacts to me," I say, barely able to look him in the eye.
"Are you?" he raises a brow.
"It should only react to me, of course."
"Of course," he repeats, his amusement seemingly increasing by the moment. "And you'll take good care of it, won't you?" he drawls wickedly. My lips tip up in a teasing smile.
"Of course. I'll polish it quite thoroughly. First I'll use my hands. Then my tongue and..." I trail off when I note the usual change in the color of his eyes.

um chile anyways sooo👀😶
they even get married and live together for 1000s of years✨
alas obviously something horrible happens and fl dies🥲🤧😭😭😭😭

Now, while this review has almost everything spoilt there are some significant plot twists that i didn’t spoil (yeah some of em are still left lol) but it’ll be fun to discover em when you’re reading the book 💗

some of my fav quotes 💌

"Before you I was chaos and ruin," he continues to speak, hypnotizing me with his voice and squashing all my doubts. "Until you showed me the alternative. Until you showed me there was joy to be had in the most mundane moments,"
"How could I want anyone else when I am only because you are? I exist for you just as I exist because of you," he breathes harshly against me.

"I've never looked at another female in my entire existence," he answers my silent question. "Only you, my love. Before, or after. Only ever you."

"Is that what you want? To paint you choking on my cock? With it so far down your throat that tears will fall down your pretty cheeks?" I nod, my eyes on his as I get lost in the intensity of his words.
"Lass, you do know how to turn a man's fantasies to life," he continues, his eyes the deepest shade of black as he regards me. "And when I'm done, I'll fuck you in a room surrounded by all these paintings so you can see yourself taken in all ways as I lay claim to your sweet body again and again.“

"So let me get this straight. You're allowed to get jealous and consequently off people, but I'm not, because you will kill them before I can even get jealous."
"That is absolutely right," he nods.
"It's my job to protect you, and that means your mental state too."
I stare at him a little flabbergasted, yet I can't help the way my lips pull up into a smile. How is he so adorable?

"And I swear to you Lizzie mine. On my never-ending life, and on my damned soul. I swear to you that my desire for you is not conditional on the mark you bear. The only condition is you. Past, present, future. Always you,"

one of the reasons why this such an amazing book though is the fact that it feels like you’re reading 3 romances in 1, the way the author made slight changes in the way they acted/grew during the 3 lifetimes was phenomenal!!!!
literally the best read of the year🛐🛐🛐

🌫️ Fairydale by Veronica Lancet — A Cursed Meddling Mess 🌙🖤

2 stars. Because unfortunately, DNFing at 90% felt illegal after dragging my soul through this gothic quicksand for nearly two months. So here we are.

Started: June 10th. Finished: July 31st. I deserve a national holiday for surviving 700+ pages of ghostly nonsense, sensual tail placements (don’t ask), and monologues that made my brain fold in on itself.

This book wants to be a haunted Jane Austen fanfic dipped in dark academia and paranormal filth — and it almost is. It’s moody, it’s atmospheric, it’s absolutely bloated with gothic aesthetics. But behind all the cursed mist and tragic quotes is… absolutely no sense.

We’ve got:
🌕 Orphaned teacher who discovers daddy secrets.
🌑 Creepy coastal town that hates her for breathing.
🌕 Two brooding men: one alive, one very dead.
🌑 Gaslighting. So much gaslighting.
🌕 Plot twists so foreshadowed they may as well be neon signs.
🌑 “Mate.” They breathed the word “mate.” I wish they hadn’t.
🌕 Ancient evil. Apparently. Somewhere in there.
🌑 Sensual ghost play. Yes. You read that right.

The vibes? Incredible. The execution? A fever dream.
The heroine? So tragically gullible she makes Bella Swan look emotionally stable.
The men? Walking red flags dipped in centuries-old trauma and weird moral compasses. One is probably her cousin, the other is apparently dead but still manages to seduce her in ghost form.
Who needs boundaries, am I right?

By page 300: I was still waiting for the plot to actually happen. Instead, I got more flowery speeches about memory and souls than actual story progression. If you told me Veronica just free-wrote her intrusive thoughts and didn’t edit them, I’d believe you.

The monologues read like someone’s Wattpad poetry folder from 2014. Cute. Exhausting.

The tail. I will never recover. That’s all.

Did I hate every second? Honestly, no. There were lines and moments that slapped. The gothic atmosphere is chef’s kiss and when Veronica leans into her lyrical weirdness, it almost works. But every time I thought I was vibing, Darcy would open her mouth and say something so painfully dumb I’d need to lie down.

Do I regret finishing? Maybe. But it’s done. I’m free. Caleb Hale, you owe me financial compensation for my time and therapy bills.

Verdict: If you want to read 700 pages of moody nonsense, ghost boyfriends, half-assed horror, and heroine brain worms — go off. Just know you can’t sue me for emotional damage.

2 stars. Good riddance, Fairydale. 🕯️🫧

Massive thanks to Atria Books & NetGalley for the eARC. I promise my gothic meltdown is my own.

━━━━━━━━━━━⊱♡⊰━━━━━━━━━━

So I started the audiobook thinking I could be brave and make it through... but y’all—31 hours and 36 minutes?! 💀 I made it to 12 hrs & 22 mins before my ears gave up on me. Like genuinely how can a book be that long?? Respectfully no 💀

And just when I thought it was over for me, BAM 💌 the ARC lands in my inbox. So yeah, audiobook's out, reading mode ON. Let’s see if this wild gothic ride reads better than it sounds 👀✨

🖤 Fairydale feels like walking into a cursed Jane Austen novel but make it dark, sexy, and maybe haunted??

🌫️ Orphaned heroine
🖤 A town with too many secrets
🌫️ Broody men (plural!!!)
🖤 Ghosts?? Ancient evil??
🌫️ A haunting slow-burn that’s either gonna destroy me or own me completely

Let’s find out if Caleb Hale is worth the pain and if Amon’s ghost game is strong. 💅

Whew!!! That was an entire commitment 😮‍💨

Omg, I’m so happy I finally finished it. It honestly feels like an achievement 🤭

‼️ PLEASEEEE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING THIS. AND UMM… LEMME TRAUMATIZE YOU (SORRY IN ADVANCE). THERE IS PERIOD PLAY. ‼️
I’m sorry guys, I can’t be the only one traumatized, I desperately need a traumatized partner 😔🫂

The story itself wasn’t bad at all. It was actually very unique. At the beginning, I was sooo hooked that I wanted to keep reading all day just to uncover all the mysteries. Then the middle happened… and brought a LOT of confusion 😭 But honestly?? That confusion turned into curiosity, and suddenly I needed to FIND OUT every single answer. So yes, it definitely kept me going 🤭 The ending was good — not amazing, but good. You know what I mean? 😅👀

Now let’s talk about the issues 🫤 (aka the reasons why I didn’t give it 4 or 5 ⭐️):

1. The book was sooo long 😭 There are 3 different timelines and yes, I understand it’s hard to fit all of that into fewer pages, but still… it really could have been shorter. I’m convinced 😭

2. Cringy dialogues. Oh boy. Only God and I know how I survived those lines 😭 (I just pretended to ignore them… 👀) But seriously, some dialogues were SOOO cringy I couldn’t control my facial expressions 😔 I don’t even want to remember them, so let’s move on.

3. Unnecessary details and smut scenes. Umm… I really hate when random smut scenes appear at the most unnecessary moments 😭 I don’t mind spice, but why at THAT moment?? I’m sorry… no 😭 I had to skim through those pages.

These were the main reasons for the rating drop. Overall, the book was good in terms of story, plot twists, and characters.

Darcy acted so unbelievably dumb sometimes 😭 I WANTED TO SCREAM AT HER. Actually, I already was screaming 😭 Like… she’s getting hints and messages from a mysterious person telling her not to trust anyone. She knows this mysterious person has been helping her. She’s like, “Oh, I need to be careful and not trust anyone.” And literally the next moment… she trusts a complete stranger 💀 Ma’am… I’m about to jump into the book. And trust me, you better RUN. 💀 But thank God she finally started using her brain near the end 😭 So yes, we’ll ignore her dumb behavior 🥰 (No we won’t 🥰) Still, I don’t hate her, she’s good, and I do like her.

Amon 👀 AHHHHHHHHH!!! YESSSSS!!! 😭🔥 Literally the top reason I kept reading 🤭 Curiosity was only second. Amon is sooo good. Yes, he used some cringy lines too 🥰😃 but I’m ignoring that (again). But seriously guys… Amon 👀 EEEP!!! He’s so fine. So good. And his jealous side (except the cringy parts)??? OMG YESSSSSS. 🙂‍↕️

Would I recommend it??? Honestly… I don’t think so. This book is definitely not for everyone. You might love it, like it, or completely hate it. It also depends a lot on your mood. So if you’re planning to read this, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. It’s not a perfect read, so definitely don’t go in with high expectations.

Yea, that’s it guys. Love y’all 🫶🖤🕯️

BEST BOOK OF 2022 🤯
I thought Requiem by Callie Hart was amazing, but after almost 1000 pages, this takes the cake.
If you liked Requiem, give this one a read 👌
This so completely safe, no cheating, no ow drama, some om drama but the hero always takes care of it 😏
Don’t read too many spoilers because this is a true mindfuckk 😳 I called a few twists but some just gobsmacked me.
Maybe I’ll write a full review after I recover, but I’m shit at writing stuff about books I love 🤣🤣 just know that I’m claiming this hero 🥵
HES MINEREEE
He was devoted to the heroine for thousands of years 😭 my feeble heart can’t take that type of love 🤧

good riddance! i finally finished a book this month!!! 😭 i wasn’t exactly confused, but i did spend like half the book (mind you, this whole book was over 700 pages—IT WAS TOO DAMN LONG 😭) wondering wtf was happening if that makes sense. the FMC was pretty annoying and the MMC was weird af (though i’ll give them credit for being so devoted to each other). some things were really predictable and the ending was super underwhelming too.

this book wasn’t terrible by any means, but it was kind of ridiculous and i just didn’t enjoy it as much as i hoped ☹️

i’m bummed our first br flopped @manas 😔 fingers crossed our next one is better 🤞🏻

if veronica lancet ever reads this just know that even though this is an absolutely SCATHING review you really should write horror

update 7/26/23: i read this book almost a year ago and i still think about how absolutely tragic it was. i have never been so disappointed in a book since fucking ALLEGIANT. i am so hung up on this. if this book was the last book on the face of the planet i'd use it as toilet paper

okay this is about to be a long and spoilery review. but i don’t know what book y’all were reading because what the fuck.

MAJOR DISCLAIMER: be careful. there are a few graphic rape scenes that don’t add to the story and are definitely there for shock value.

i was CONVINCED this was going to be my #1 book of the year when it started. now i’m convinced it’s going to be my worst book!

okay so the beginning was really good. we started off with a lot of mystery and build and it felt reminiscent of the haunting of hill house. but this shit went downhill.

i hate past lives and soulmates across eons or whatever. those flashbacks were so long. i groaned every time i had to read them.

let’s also talk about how amon assumed the identity of a man who had killed himself to get closer to darcy?? and he was her cat?? get a grip man

also these bitches just kept FUCKING. my god. there was a point where she orgasmed so many times she passed out. WHAT

and not to forget there was also monster porn? so ig homie can turn into a monster w a tail and fucks her w his dick but also sticks his tail in her ass? was this what cardan and jude have been doing?

my god. and not to mention every plot twist was predictable. the “problem” of the story was solved in like 10 pages and then it just went back to them fucking. goddamn it. i hate horny people

this was such a waste of my time. i loved the beginning (1950s massachusetts w a crazy inheritance and witches and a mysterious man? hell yea) but i did not sign up for at least 100 pages of porn. goddamn it

also i think they’re aliens??

it was set up for a very unnecessary sequel that i will NEVER read. my god. please no more

i will finish w a brief note: this author really needs to get into writing horror. it would be immaculate. but i overall think that authors are falling into the tiktok trope trap and wanting to please the audience rather than be creative. the writing was super good and there is so much potential. but please realize that romantic fantasy is rarely done right and when it is the same plot line can’t be repeated (aka acomaf)

spare yourself.

"Us." A simple word, but a complicated history.

this is one of the most beautiful stories i’ve ever had the pleasure to read.
i must say, this is not a book for everyone. it’s long and confusing and you must have patience (a quality i don’t have but that i’ve mastered nonetheless for this story). you must enter this story with the right mindset, otherwise you won’t like it—you’ll hate it.
this book is about the purest form of love. it is utterly and inevitably imprinted in my heart forever. is it a perfect book? no, it’s not. but god if i didn’t have one of the best experiences ever. there are very few love stories that made me feel so much—so deeply, in my life and, this one, is one of them.

”What could possibly go wrong in a town that rhymes with fairytale?”

╰┈➤ Fairydale is a dark gothic historical romance with horror, paranormal & fantasy elements. it all starts in Fairydale, a small town where odd things happen every day.
our darcy finds herself torn between two men: caleb hale, a charming but dark man; and amon d’artan, a nobleman from 1700 who visits her dreams at night.

you will jump between 3 different timelines, and in the first 30% (i know it’s a lot) you’ll find yourself confused asf about what’s happening. this is the kind of book that screams “trust the process” because you must have faith in the story to evolve.
it also screams ✨COMMITMENT✨
i can’t tell you more because the plot is very intricate and what happens in the book is really A LOT. so, my advice is to go blind and enjoy the ride.

i love this book with all my heart and with every fiber of my being. i love the characters and their story. this book is painfully beautiful: it has magic, love, creepy moments, very—VERY—hot moments; it’s able to make you feel every type of emotions. i simply don’t have words to explain how much i love this story.
pls give it a chance and read it because amon d’artan is THE MAN. oh holy mother of god!!! the things he’ll make you feel… it’ll be hard to top amon because he just set the bar so fucking high… truly, amon d’artan has irrevocably stolen my heart forever.
pls read it!!!!!

For what feels like an eternity, my eyes are lost in his, my breath coming out in short spurts and meeting his in the middle. There's an intense feeling of déjà-vu that washes over me, almost as if this meeting had taken place a thousand times before—always at a standstill; always an eternity apart.

"You only have to exist and you're all I see."

"Wherever you are, wherever you go…" he pauses as his gaze pins me to the spot. "Whoever you are. I will find you. That is my promise to you. Always."

"How could I want anyone else when I am only because you are? I exist for you just as I exist because of you."

"I've loved you for so long, and I'll continue to love you for as long as my essence lives on."

"We'll find our place, Sela. It might not be this world, or the next. But we will eventually find our happy place."

Yet he hadn't budged. Like a steady rock being hit by the strongest torrent, he'd staunchly been by my side in the darkest hours.

Memories might not be the core of a person. But they certainly give you depth of feeling—for you must have loved to know loss and you must have lost to know the fear of loving again. And though the cycle always repeats, it makes us stronger.
One day at a time.
One loved one at a time.
In the end, only memory remains.

♾️🌟 did i just add a new book to my god tier list? ABSOLUTELY!!

“From the beginning he's been mine just like I've been his. Wholly. Irrevocably. Eternally.”

i can’t put into words the way i feel about this book. it was gothic, dark and magical with immortal beings, witches, demons and so much mystery. you will have NO IDEA what’s going on for at least 60% of the book, it will make you question your sanity but when you finally get all the answers it makes the journey SO worth it. this book is the most perfect embodiment of ‘i would find you in any lifetime’ and amon d’artan is forever going to be one of my favourite book husbands of ALL TIME. ❤️‍🩹

I can’t explain the gasp of relief I took when I finally finished. Spoilers in this review, but if you’re like me, and wish someone warned you about stuff before you got into this 772 page book, then read on.

I’m too tired to compile a decent review so I’m just gunna post the notes I made as read it:

• There’s a strong Vampire Diaries vibe to the story

• it is a a skill to set such intensity to a story without even describing the physical setting properly.

• Hm perhaps we shouldn’t foreshadow like that bc I think I’ve figured out nearly half of the plot twists and im barely 15% into the story(Update: I was right.
The weird cat? Yup.
The creepy psycho guy. Booked that
*Sensual* ghost babe. knew it
Confusing past and weird necklace. *coughs in Vampire Diaries*)
Electric feeling when their hands touch??? the Subtlety is unmatched.

• “ WAIT WHAT—She only met this man TWICE in her life and she’s already calling him the father of her unborn children??

“Despite him being on his best behavior today—playful, flirty, and seemingly having my best interests at heart—“ ????? didn’t he gaslight you, follow you and taunt you??? You were so scared you ran away in the rain, tripped on a rock and got hurt trying to get away from him?????

• These men are GASLIGHTING you babygirl. you know you saw shit but they won’t admit to it….and you think he’s been NOTHING BUT TRUSTWORTHY??

• Girl, your house was lit on fire and the town hates you. You say you wanna leave but you aren’t even TRYING to find a loophole or anything.

• Oh my god, she’s fallen in love twice already, escaped death like 4 times but I’m only done 40% of the book??

"Pray do tell, what is the perfect man for you?" I pause for a moment, not knowing whether I should reveal this, but the words are out of my mouth before I can help it. "The one who calls me his." The standard is in hell. No wonder she’s falling in love left and right— she’ll take just about anyone eh

• HOW THE HELL DID THE WORD MATE FIND ITSELF IN THIS BOOK?? The way I gagged when he casually threw in “my mate” like we wouldn’t notice.

• Even if didn’t know the obvious, This gal’s got absolutely no qualms about being obsessed with her ghost lover while being with her gunna possibly incestuous lover. No care for the logistics, just straight up “I love two men, it’s okay” except in a NON-polyamorous way. I know the ending will resolve itself but I don’t think she’s giving this issue a believable amount of thought.

“he is just my big, bad protector— Gag ew.

Be proper because it was expected of me and my position, and be good because of my upbringing. If not, people would immediately associate the stigma of being an orphan, with me being bad. So I tried to beat it. SO MUCH MONOLOGUING. CAN WE SEE SOMETHING HAPPEN??

"There is this famous psychoanalyst Carl Jung and in his view, the persona is made up of experiences and social and cultural context. In that instance, without any experience of the past, wouldn't you say I am an entirely different person? Doesn't memory create a person?" He thinks on it for a moment. "You're right to an extent. Yes, memory does constitute the basis of a person, and their experiences…

😲 this conversation is SO RANDOM. why are they dragging Jung into this. I can’t even take what they are saying seriously. Can I get a psych here to fact-check this logic/abuse-of-Jung?

said social context," he smiles. "And in this case I am your social context. You might find it a bold claim, but you are you because of me, just as I am me because of you.
The ick couldnt be ickier. Jung would be rolling in his grave.

"So let me get this straight. You're allowed to get jealous and consequently off people, but I'm not, because you will kill them before I can even get jealous." "That is absolutely right," he nods. "It's my job to protect you, and that means your mental state too." I stare at him a little flabbergasted, yet I can't help the way my lips pull up into a smile. How is he so adorable?”

ADORABLE? Wow we did NOT read that situation the same way.

• I’ve seen this woman lose her virginity THREE TIMES ALREADY. At some point, there is no virginity

• Randomly calls her “lass” during sex.Uhm huh? I thought he was supposed to be a French boy or a British dude.

• she’s so horny it’s making her dumb omg

• I KNEW IT! My AHS knowledge prepared me for that Caleb twist. I liked it. :)

• A random rape scene that added no perspective/value to the story, and was never mentioned again.

• ONLY DONE 60%? THIS BOOK IS NEVER-ending ahhh. Wrap it up people.

• omg okay wow okay that was hot. Uh wow the possessive stuff is hotter than I ever found it before in other books👀 what? how?

"Make love to me... Please love me and help me forget. Help me…” YOU WANNA HAVE SEX TO FORGET ***** died????? 😱😱 THEY **just** died.

“It's almost as if, despite knowing he represents danger, my body's decided the opposite.” is this why you act the way you do….? So all this time YOU KNEW you were in danger but you just ignored it huh?

“they recognize who their mate would be upon meeting” Predestined mates??!!!!!!! WHEN WILL THIS END

• THE TAIL OMG HE PUT THE TAIL WHERE?

• Evil dead , peace restored— aaand they’re having sex again

• that epilogue— how does a man know your body better than you?? YOU THINK FOOD BABY BEFORE A REAL BABY EVEN THOUGH Y’all FUCK 24/7. this is not even stupidity, it’s willful ignorance

• argh thank god it’s done.

• omg I still don’t even know what the hell a Reva is.

Anyways, Lancet writes intensity and suspense really well. She definitely infuses such an intensity into her story that I sometimes I forgot how dumb the heroine was.

I don’t think I read the same book as everyone else. I’ve never hated something so much that I’ve gone and read essays and articles about the female gaze and the role of women in the regency era to understand my hatred. This has so much potential it just needed tightening and the last historical timeline in my opinion needed to be introduced as pivotal sooner so that it actually held weight because by the time it got there, I simply ✨did not care✨

Anyone who knows my reviews knows I hardly ever give 5* because for me the the story has to have everything that I prefer. This story has two very likeable main characters, great plot, jealous obsessive hero (the heroine was adorable too) and most important of all a beautiful love story. Where so many previously trusted authors have gone down the cheating plot route or being with others during separation (which always spoils it for me) this author has continued to give us characters who know the true definition of being soulmates and the word faithful. I am so satisfied after reading this book because instead of it making me feel upset I was left content. I so want the sequel please Ms Lancet and thank you for such a wonderful read!

Besties I'm sorry to disappoint ya'll but this was literal torture for me to get through 😔✊🏻

It was too much, it was too long, it was too messy, it was too ridiculous, it was too everything. My poor brain just could not handle it.

After the 27% mark, this book had me feeling like this every time I forced myself to pick it up.

Now if you like books with ALOT of crazy shit going on and you like the feeling of getting your brains scrambled then this is for you but it certainly was not for me. I learned that while reading this. I love books where crazy shit happens but this made me realize that I have a limit. I kid you not, at some point, I got an actual headache from reading this.

And when I first picked it up I was actually so excited because hello?!?! A gothic, historical, fantasy, paranormal romance?!?! It sounds perfect, doesn't it? But this just felt like a clusterfuck of random events to me. It didn't help that I didn't really like any of the characters and the romance felt out of sorts because of the whole going back and forth between timelines.

I'd also like to mention that I struggle with longer books when I don't absolutely love them so maybe If I'd dnfed this I wouldn't have ended up with such a deep dislike for it. But it felt like an injustice to dnf because so many people loved it and I was in denial thinking it would get better that by the point I realized it wasn't I was in too deep to dnf, might as well just push myself through it.

I guess I'm just the odd one out because everyone seemed to really enjoy this. So don't let my review keep you from reading this.

Now if writing is big deal to you (just as it is for me) consider that the writing in this book seems very amateur, kinda reads like a Wattpad fanfiction, it's not horrible though and hey that kind of writing is not always a complete turn-off (sometimes I can get past it if the story is good and I like the characters). But I just felt like I had to mention that.

unfortunately, I can’t rate this any higher than 2 stars

the positives -

I think veronica lancet did a great job of creating a witchy gothic atmosphere and it lowkey was making me regret not reading this in the middle of spooky season bc it would’ve been perfect ✨(until it wasn’t) I could imagine this town in northeast america so clearly in my mind and all the creepy incidences were adding a lot to the atmosphere!

there were a few quotes that SLAPPED and I was like 😮‍💨 oh she ate with that one

the negatives -

THE LENGTH?!? this did not have to be over 700+ pages long when 75% of that was such INNER MONOLOGUES AND WEIRD FLASHBACKS!!!! if you’re gonna say in your author’s note that it’s imperative not to skim in order to not miss details, THEN MAKE IT INTERESTING!!! I was skimming by the 70% bc by that point the story felt over and was just dragging

the foreshadowing was so obvious by the 20% I basically had the whole story figured out AND HAD ANOTHER 500 PAGES TO GO!!! the way the author chose to hint at important details, I felt at that point she should’ve just straight up written it bc when the revealed happened (mind you, at 75% 😵‍💫) it wasn’t even worth it bc we’ve been known??

I also was not a fan of the direction the story ended up taking. this being advertised as a gothic romantasy is honestly false advertising because it goes so far behind that and completely loses the whole atmospheric vibes that I loved so much!! it lowkey made me sad because the one part I genuinely enjoyed so much was gone 🥲 it just got weird honestly.

THE TAIL 😵‍💫 hated it.

final thoughts - this book had potential and I feel like if it was cut by 300 pages and remained the gothic romantasy it began as, it would’ve worked so much better.

thank you to NetGalley and Atria Publishing for e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I promised myself that I wouldn't be tempted into reading another book by this author (the way she delivers and relays information in her books is just confusing to me), but the devil had other plans and brought me the apple in the form of a spoiler that had me

Huge thank you to Atria Book and NetGalley for the advance copy!

I almost quit Fairydale before I even started because I found the author’s note at the beginning super condescending, but I forged ahead anyway. Veronica Lancet knows how to set up atmosphere, because the town of Fairydale was haunting and mysterious in the best way. Other than a couple instances of using phrases that weren’t used during the time period yanking me out of the story, the gothic vibes were great.

My main issue was the FMC, Darcy. She alternated between being a skeptical modern woman, to brushing aside paranormal activity like it was totally normal. This girl needed to ask more questions and follow her instincts! Her internal dialogue was often painful to read. Her naivety was veering dangerously into stupidity during the first 60% of the book. And this book is long, so that’s a lot of pages!

I will say this book is unique, I’ve never read anything like it before. It has elements of fantasy, gothic romance, historical, and paranormal fiction. It felt a bit bogged down with everything it was trying to accomplish, but I ultimately think it was interesting.

The last 40% of this book is where the magic happens and Lancet really hits her stride. The alternating timelines were the strong point of the story, and I loved seeing Sela’s story play out. Amon was a fantastic MMC and I ended up loving the romance in the end. The soulmate trope got me—I was eating it up! “I might be a traitor to them, but I’ll be a husband to you.” I mean come on? 😍

The ending was a bit anticlimactic, but the epilogue was the perfect conclusion to this story. I had a hard time rating since I really enjoyed the last few hundred pages, but slogged through the beginning, so I am going to split the difference at 3 stars. ⭐️

Overall I’d say this was a unique story, but it didn’t need 700+ pages to tell it. Also there was way too much face licking going on. 💀

Pre read: Everyone either loves this or hates it with a fiery passion, so I know I have to give this ARC a try for the rerelease. 👀

5/5 ⭐️
3.75/5 🌶

Tropes:
- dark/gothic/historical romance
- creepy small town
- paranormal + fantasy elements
- sweet & innocent heroine
- OBSESSED & DEVOTED “anti-hero”
- soulmates/fated mates
- very light love triangle (don’t sweat it, trust the process)
- 3 alternating timelines ~ 2 past & 1 present
- ancient mystery
- the best pet names
- dual virgins ~ both H & h
- slow burn (no, not 80% first kiss type slow *i can’t stand that shit*)
*Check TW*

POV: first person - single (heroine)

Type: stand-alone *ends with a HFN/potential for a continuation but still a very happy ending!*

ONE OF THE BEST LOVE STORIES TO DATE. I’ve read a lot of books and only a select few have been what I consider the epitome of love and romance. This is 100% one of them.

This book is most definitely one of my top 3 books of the year!! For such a lengthy book, I still need and want more. I’m not read to say goodbye to these characters yet, I refuse to.

I know we all say we want a book boyfriend bc they can do no wrong BUT this hero everything I could ever want. He’s #1 on my list now, surpassing many greats.

It’s only one pov but trust me it works. It’s possibly the only way this book could have been written since it added to the mystery. Plus the hero speaks what’s on his mind so you NEVER question how he feels. He was beyond devoted and you’re meant to know it.

If you could handle a long long book, you need to read Fairydale! 🖤

Fairydale is LIVE!
Grab it HERE!

I would kindly ask you not to spoil the story for others. To experience it to the fullest, I would suggest going in blind. If you have any content concerns, I am one message away.
Thank you!

This is the fastest I've ever written a book because this story possessed me! It's surreal how every little plot point came to me until everything fit together perfectly.
Fairydale is a mix of genres - gothic, paranormal, fantasy, mystery & historical. But at its core it's a love story spanning millennia. It's about hope, devotion, loyalty, and self-sacrifice.
To get some things out of the way, this is dark.
Not as gory as my other books, but it's emotionally and psychologically pitch black. There is a lot of loss, death and healing involved, so please, if you have any triggers regarding that, I would suggest against reading this. There is a comprehensive list of content warnings at the bottom.
Is there a love triangle? Sort of. You'll have to read to see (but I promise it's not bad at all - no cheating)
The hero in this book is one of my absolute favorites. He gave me butterflies while writing this, so I hope he'll give you the same type of feelings when you read it.

Content Warnings : blood (gore), blood play & period play, death, derogatory terms, discrimination, drugs, graphic torture, graphic violence, graphic sexual situations (humanoid & non-humanoid), incestuous situations, infertility, kidnapping, murder, rape, weapons, PTSD, suicide.

Well that was not what I expected 😂. I did enjoy the story line, it kept me wondering who really is the “ bad guy “ . It was unique and entertaining.

As for the main characters, Lizzie/ Darcy OMG 😂. They were portrayed as really sheltered, innocent, naive but they were just plain dumb.

“𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕨𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕥𝕠 𝕡𝕦𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕤 𝕠𝕟 𝕞𝕪 𝕔𝕠𝕔𝕜?" "𝕀𝕤 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕥'𝕤 𝕔𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕖𝕕?" 𝕀 𝕒𝕤𝕜 𝕔𝕦𝕣𝕚𝕠𝕦𝕤𝕝𝕪. ℍ𝕖 𝕘𝕣𝕦𝕟𝕥𝕤. "ℂ𝕠𝕔𝕜," 𝕀 𝕣𝕖𝕡𝕖𝕒𝕥, 𝕥𝕒𝕤𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕕…

…no because this was so cringy that even I blushed and I am no “ novice “ over here yeah? 😂😂😂

Our main man Amon is possessive and overprotective . I wish his personality was more developed though.
Also if I ever see the words “ Lizzie mine” again i will probably loose my eye sight.

Overall I did have a good time but this is definitely not for everyone.
