Another terrific fast-paced, action and danger laced story in the Battle Mountain series with edge of your seat suspense. Secrets are revealed not only about Macie's past, but a surprising twist as to the criminal they are seeking will blow your mind. I love when I can't even predict the culprit because the twists and turns are so convoluted. Macie's attempt to outrun the past that stalks is cut short when her childhood best friend surprises her, and Riggs soon finds himself in the middle of a mess. Riggs and Macie must not only fight for their lives, but the lives of others and their future as they rush to end the madness. After close calls and struggles in the emotion department, the two get their sweet HEA as we also catch up on the happy endings of the previous couples in the series.

This book is so good! It has suspense, betrayal, love, community and so much more. Macie had been trying all her life to figure out who had killed her best friend when she was ten years old. I felt so bad for her that she had lived 25 years by herself, always running, and trying to find clues to her friends death. She was getting ready to run when she comes face to face with Riggs, the third person of the best friends when they were younger. I was glad that Riggs wasn’t going to let her get away to run again. It was fun watching their love/hate relationship after seeing each other. I don’t think Macie ever realized how much people in their small community liked her. While Macie and Riggs are working together to find the killer, something terrible happens to a feisty four year old. I was on the edge of my seat so many times when they were looking for the killer. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

Dead Again
Defenders of Battle Mountain
A Harlequin Intrigue
Nichole Severn
“It was happening all over again.”
Oh my goodness how much can one town endure? Battle Mountain is back in the thick of it as Macie, the dispatcher is set to flee. A blast from her past, childhood friend and detective Riggs catches up with her.
Poor little Penny needs them all to be at the top of their game and for them to pull together something that has so far eluded them all.
The dramatic twists, the evil crime, the edge of your seat tension carries all of the way through this intrigue.
Camaraderie and love conquer all.
I received an arc of this book. It is part of the Battle Mountain series but could be read as a stand-alone novel with hea.

Macie is one of my favorite characters of this series, wild, unpredictable, and the heart of BMPD. She’s running from a killer she met 25 years ago while investigating on her own. Riggs, her childhood friend, is investigating his partner’s death and why it connects to Macie. They butt heads, argue, solve problems together and find love with each other. Just like a normal couple except they’re hunting a killer. The whole series is exciting with amazing characters and intense situations, each has a new couple and a new crisis. I’m sort of sad that this appears to be the last one but I can see possibilities of it continuing. I’ve been lucky to read early copies and have left my reviews voluntarily.

Terrific story. I've been hoping for Macie's story from the beginning of the series. She has always been an intriguing character with her attitude and especially the snark she directs toward Easton Ford. At the end of the previous book, we discover that Macie has been hiding from something and is preparing to run again.

This book opens with Macie's preparations to run from whatever in her past has been stalking her. But before she can escape, someone else from her past appears at her door. Riggs was one of her best friends as a child, along with a girl named Hazel. When Hazel was murdered, Macie and her parents left town, fearing for her life. Macie has been on the run for twenty-five years but is also looking for the man who wrecked her life.

Detective Riggs Karig was devastated when Hazel was murdered, and Macie disappeared. I ached for him as his story was revealed over the course of the book. His life afterward wasn't easy, but it motivated him to become a police detective. His tough exterior hides pain and issues he barely recognizes, much less admits.

Riggs shows up in Battle Mountain while investigating his ex-partner's death. He's stunned to find his childhood friend living under an assumed name and wonders why his partner had Macie's name and address on a note in his pocket at the time of his death. The initial meeting between Riggs and Macie was contentious, with Macie wanting to run and Riggs insisting she stay and help him. Words are exchanged about Hazel's murder and the effect on both their lives. All debate comes to an end when Macie is attacked. Now, Riggs not only wants her help, he wants to keep her safe. A surprise discovery links Hazel's murder to another case and brings them together to investigate.

The tension goes up when a child close to Macie disappears. She is determined to find Penny before it is too late. The action, twists, and turns kept me glued to the pages as I rooted for Riggs and Macie to succeed. They were foiled every time they got close, and I could feel their fear and desperation. The final confrontation had me on the edge of my seat until it was over. The final twist of the killer's identity was a chilling revelation.

I enjoyed watching the relationship between Macie and Riggs develop. They had been so close as children but no longer knew each other. The slow revealing of each other's painful pasts made them realize that neither had escaped the effects of Hazel's murder. Working together brought them closer together. Still, despite their intense attraction, trust didn't come easy. Even when each accepted their feelings, belief in a future together was difficult. Macie would prefer to stay in Battle Mountain, where she finally feels at home. Riggs intends to return to New Mexico - his reaction to the Colorado environment was hilarious. There is a rough patch when Macie reveals the final part of her past, and Riggs reacts badly, driving a wedge between them. It takes nearly losing her for Riggs to realize how much he loves and needs her. The scene in the hospital was deeply emotional, and the later scene at the Ford ranch was the perfect ending to the book and series.

Dead Again is Macie Barclay's secret story as her life is about to be upended by a past from where Detective Riggs Karig reappears.

In Book Six of Defenders of Battle Mountain, the past needs to be kept hidden, lest the serial killer from yore starts his killing spree again.

Warning: This is the sixth (and final) book in a series and has spoilers for the first five.

Synopsis:
Macie Barclay has been living a pretend life for more than two decades but her past has finally caught up with her in the form of Detective Karig. His partner has been murdered and the evidence, a piece of paper with Macie's name, leads him to the small town of Battle Mountain.

Review:
The final book in the Battle Mountain series, Nichole Severn ends it all with a bang! I'm at once sad but happy that this series had such a blast of an ending.

Riggs can't believe he finally found a part of his past, someone he was desperate to reconnect with, in a place where his old partner is found dead. Soon, he finds a link between the murder and a cold case and there starts their journey.

Battle Mountain had barely survived all the past attempts on this dear old town and here was another. From New Mexico, Riggs follows his partner's trail in an attempt to find the person who killed the latter. And when what happened all those years ago starts happening again, there's no going anywhere before he solves the mystery.

Ever since it was revealed that Macie lives in a tree house, an actual one, I was waiting for her story because of that only. Dead Again is the best book, according to me, in the entire series, maybe after the first one.
Who said exactly what they were thinking like that?

Well Macie does, and she's hilarious like that, a unique character.

Dead Again follows Riggs and Macie as they rush forward to save a kid, as the past repeats itself and it's up to them to stop it. But they do get lost in each other amidst the mayhem before a terrifying truth seemingly puts an end to them.

The chilling revelation that comes when the climax hits is just unbelievable. A twisted killer who takes pleasure in doing devious things. The culprit being brought to books is the most chilling scene ever, the concept is chilling in itself. I loved the ending though and could never have imagined whodunnit.

This brings the BMPD series to a close. Forever and always in love with Nichole Severn's writing.

Oh my Battle Mountain police department still has a lot to face and no time for a reprieve.
Macie is the police department dispatcher but she is much more, now she is thinking she must flee again except that a new murder took place and the detective on the detective on the case wants to speak to her and he is not unknown.

Riggs Karig came to Battle Mountain after his partner was found dead with Macie's address on him....he was not excepting Macie to be his childhood frien Avalynn who disappeared years ago after the murder of their common friend.
He is determined not to loose her again and to uncover her secret but when her life is in danger he step in and accept to take care of her protection so they can work together. Macie always fell guilty after surviving and not her friend....she tried to protect herself moving all the time, changing name but now she created some roots and when a new girl is kidnapped she wants to find her even if it means revealing her secrets.

Oh this was excellent, Macie is so much more that it seemed and Weston adn Easton knew but let her do things at her time...Now Riggs is here and we get to understand her a lot more. With a serial murder (again) loose, the child of her friends in danger Macie blossoms. Riggs was an interesting character as well, he reacted differently than Macie but they both tried to get justice for their friend...i just got angry with him when he repeated mistakes like he did with hsi partner.

This is a really good romance suspense, wonderfully written investigation with well built characters. It's a stand alone but make more sense read in order adn the whole is series i really worth being read.

I have been waiting for Macie's story, I knew that it would be a good one and Nichole Severn didn't disappoint.
Macie Barclay had loved her time in Battle Mountain and her job as dispatcher at the Battle Mountain Police department but she had to move on, she had a task to do, a promise that she had made to herself twenty five years ago, to do that, she had to stay one step ahead of the killer.
Masie's horror story started when she was ten years old, she and her two best friends Riggs Karig and Hazel McAdams were always together..........until they weren't, Hazel was no longer there, she was brutally murdered, Macie had a secret, a secret that no one must know, she had been running ever since.
Little did Masie know that the handsome man standing on her doorstep was to change her life forever.
Detective Riggs Karig had come to find the murderer of his friend and mentor, Detective Kevin Becker, Macie's contact details had been found in his pocket but the girl facing him wasn't Macie Barclay but his childhood friend Avelynn, a girl that he had never forgotten.
This riveting, nail biting story follows Macie and Riggs horrendous journey in trying to find the killer of their childhood friend, a killer who left no clues, a killer who kidnaps children then murders them, time was running out if they were to stop it happening again. The instant attraction between Macie and Riggs is obvious but their journey to love isn't straightforward, can they overcome the hurdles in their way ? Can Rigg keep Macie safe ?can Battle Mountain work it's magic. A well written romantic thriller.
I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.

We are back in Battle Mountain with another nail bitting, suspense romance that will have the reader on the edge of their seats from the first page to the last.
Macie/Avalynn Barclay has been the town’s police dispatcher for a few years. Most consider her eccentric and have no idea she’s been running for the past 25 years while investigating the kidnapping and death of her childhood friend. Since then, she’s been looking over her shoulder in fear of the kidnapper finding her.
Riggs Karig , once best friend’s with Macie is in town to investigate the murder of his partner and friend. He too has never forgotten the kidnapped and murdered girl and just like Macie, has spent his life looking for answers and Macie/Avalynn.
Imagine his surprise to come face to face with Macie.
When another girl is kidnapped, Macie will do everything to find the girl. Will the girl be found? Will Macie and Riggs finally find their happiness or will they continue to allow the past dictate their present and future?
Aside from the engaging plot and complex characters, this was a story about how one’s past experiences, especially as a child, will affect the adult one becomes throughout their lives. It is also a story about letting go of the hurt and allowing others into our lives. Together becoming a stronger unit.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Battle Mountains PD dispatcher is on the move. She’s loved the time in BM however, somethings telling her it’s time to move on. She works hard to keep her past in the past. The last thing she expects is for that past to come barrelling toward her.
Riggs Karig never forgot his first love. Now he’s found her again he’s not letting her get away without some answers. The past is not dead, and a serial killer is still at large.
Love these books from Nichole. You’re always guaranteed a twist, and this book has one you just don’t see coming.

I really enjoyed Macie's story. As a young girl she escaped a killer once, but her best friend did not. aHer family left their home and life out of fear to keep her safe. But she left behind a third friend and he tracks her down. He's hunting for the killerand he needs to convince Macie to help him find the monster. All of her co-workers at the Battle Mountain PD are ready to help,

It was a great book and a perfect ending ot the series. I will have to admit I will miss all of the characters in the series, but I look forward to Ms. Severn's future books. Thank you Nichole for another enjoyable read.

I loved this one. Get something to drink/eat and get ready to be sucked into another great addition to this series. Macie Barclay is the dispatcher at BMPD and she’s done a good job of portraying who she wants everyone to know. When Detective Rigg Karig walks up to her door she is face to face with a grown-up version of her childhood best friend. Rigg’s and Macie have a lot to learn about each other and a lot to work through. Once you start reading, you’ll understand why I couldn’t put it down until I knew how this was going to end!

Dead Again (Defenders of Battle Mountain Book 6) by Nichole Severn is the last of the Defenders of Battle Mountain series and I think the best of the series. I've been waiting for Macie's story and I was not disappointed. This book is so good. Riggs and Macie are a fantastic couple. There's so many twists in the book it will keep you on edge waiting to read what's next. I cried in this book, so be prepared. I give this book and this series 5 stars. I'm sad to read the end of this series and all these couples.

Yay, we finally get Macie's story. She's been such an interesting character and now we learn what brought her to Battle Mountain. It starts with her childhood friend showing up on her doorstep, which puts a series of events in motion with danger not only for her but for an innocent 4 year old girl, Penny. One thing is clear, Macie is not going to give up until Penny is rescued, no matter what the cost is to herself. The identity of the killer was a surprise. This was a fitting end to this series.

Great book!!
While working on the case of his partners murder, Detective Riggs finds out that suspect Macie, a woman he has history with, is actually a target.
I enjoyed the suspense and drama involved in this book. It had layers to the plot and the characters were believable and relatable.
I enjoyed the slow build of the romance between Riggs and Macie, both a fiesty and passionate affair.
Well written, I love Nichole's style of writing and the great dialogue in this book.
Very well done!!

Macie is ready to skip town when she runs into her past, literally. Riggs comes to Battle Mountain looking for his partner's murder. The suspense is exciting and the twists kept me guessing. I love Macie and Riggs and their growing feelings for each other. This story can be read as a standalone, but I recommend you read the series. Each book introduces a different couple. If you enjoy suspense stories with Romance, you will love Dead Again. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Excellent story, and Macie may be my favourite character of the series. This suspense story had a lot of twists and turns and I did not want to put the book down! However, a head's up for those looking for romance to be an integral part of their suspense thriller: I found the chemistry between Macie and Riggs to be almost nonexistent. And the lead up and post-scene references to the closed door sex scene were so fleeting and vague I almost missed that it happened.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

WOW! Riggs and Macie make an exciting team as they work together to solve the murder of their best friend & mentor. Also proving that nothing can stand in the way of true love, as well as keeping Battle Mountain police chief Weston Ford on his toes.
I highly recommend this book and entire series for anyone who is addicted to danger, intrigue, and fast-paced stories. Thank you, Nichole, for another opportunity to enjoy this book.

Great ending to the series!
The action is explosive and surprising, everything seems to be lost more than once and the characters' deep, scabbed and secretly festering wounds almost topple them. Luckily, their sense of honor and self-sacrifice propels them forward towards a redemption based on forgiving themselves, and justice is done at last.

There's a lot of self-loathing in this part of the series, so it takes a lot to understand and forgive and allow themselves to be happy at last.

The final book in this great series. Macie is not who she seems and carries a heartbreaking secret. Just as she gets ready to run again her past arrives on her doorstep in the form of her old school friend looking for answers. 3.5 Stars for suspense and the heroine

I enjoyed the mystery aspect and the killer was totally unpredictable.
The heroine made some foolhardy decisions.
If she had an inkling about the killer's location she should have informed the police instead of going on her own to rescue the kid. But I still liked her more than the hero.
The heroine was a powerhouse ,she would always do what she believed in.
I found the hero to be weak and one dimensional.

I had no clue Dead Again was part of a series when I grabbed it. Had a long car ride with no radio (not even satellite radio) so I read the book aloud to the driver. I did not finish during the trip so I would read a chapter aloud every now and then to finish it.

The story was pretty basic and even without having read the earlier series I figured out who the killer was. The characters were average but likeable enough.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. My o my, what an epic clusterf***. Macie‘s not quite the one she wants everyone to believe she is - and all’s good until a body turns up. Again. And her former best friend shows up out of the blue. When tragedy (almost) strikes again, she has to put her trust in Riggs. Another fabulous story out of Nichole Severn’s hand.

This book was easy to start and a delight to finish. The fast-paced, action-packed middle was the icing on the cake.
