Things were improving between us… that is, until he got the bright idea to kidnap me.
I never thought I’d be tricked into an arranged marriage with an alien warlord. Still, it’s been easy enough to keep my former gladiator husband at arm’s length. But once my translator starts working, the hulking himbo decides he’s tired of waiting and freaking kidnaps me.
I wake in a picturesque seaside village, and the big lug is only too happy to inform me that it’s all part of his plan to give us time to fall in love. Strangely enough, it turns out he was listening when I told him I loved historical mysteries, because he’s brought me to Sueva’s own unsolved mystery: a once thriving town where all occupants vanished without a trace.
My overthinker brain is all too easily sucked into the riddle— and maybe even the idea of Alvez. Except… the reason the villagers disappeared? It’s not stuck in the past, and we’re in trouble. If Alvez and I want to escape the same fate, we’ll have to rely on each other… and I’ll have to stop over analyzing my feelings about him.

The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙❤️💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍 Character development: 😤🙁😋😘 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Michelle - she is one of an all-female mission to Suevan territory. The women thought they were on a mission to open communications with the Suevan warriors and get technology to protect Earth. They found out that their own government sold them out after they learned the ‘welcoming ceremony’ was really a marriage ceremony. Michelle was not happy about her new situation. She did her best to steer clear of her new husband Alvez. She has an anxiety disorder that she had hidden from the federation and is now out of her medication.
The Hero:Alvez - he was kidnapped by their enemy, the Roth when he was a child and forced to be a gladiator for more than a decade. Now he wants nothing more that to bond with his new human mate. When one of his brother warriors tells him about the romance books of his wife’s that he has been reading to learn how females like to be treated and lets him know that the males in the books often kidnap the females, which is a beloved human custom. Alvez thinks that is a good way to spend alone time with his new wife who has been staying with the other women and rarely spends time with him.
The Story: Michelle had been really excited for the mission; she thought that her government thought she was capable and that all her years of study had finally come to fruition. She had been very depressed at the start of the book and was getting drunk and complaining about her lot in life. I was afraid she would be quite a whiner throughout the book. So, I was pleasantly surprised at how she took her kidnapping in stride, especially after she understood that Alvez thought it was something human males often did for their females.
I also liked the fact that Alvez took Michelle to a place on the planet where there is a historical mystery. He remembered she had once told him that she liked figuring out things from the past like that. The two of them get involved in discovering what happened to the people in the past in the beach town where he took her and end up in their own adventure. As soon as I read the blurb on this one, I was hoping they would find a tree with the word croatoan written on it, so I was surprised when Alvez was telling the story and there was a rock with the word otadiam instead. Then Michelle mentions how much it sounds like the roanoke disappearance. I guess great minds think alike.
This book had a great story; I have been really enjoying this series so far. Every book has had a different setting and a completely different plot despite having similar backstories for the women and the way they got to the Suevan planet. I liked the mystery of this one as well as the suspense, and the fact that the two main characters found a pet, a dog-like creature. I love when there are alien pets in a book, they always add a fun component.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Mason Lloyd and Hollie Jackson. These two are terrific narrators, especially for alien romances. They are both expressive and are able to do multiple voices for different characters. Hollie Jackson overacts a bit but is otherwise very easy to listen to and Mason has a nice deep voice that I enjoy.
Alvez and Michelle were adorbs together and I loved how he talked her through panic attacks. Also, this book had the best drunk scene. I’m excited to read Alien on Fire next!
Give me an earnest, sex-on-the-brain alien obsessed with his mate, some culture clash, some size difference, some “you can take it,” and some forced proximity well-intentioned kidnapping, and I am a happy camper!
This series has been absolutely delivering on the alien Himbos (although we’re getting hints of at least two non-Himbo, baddy-adjacent alien mates to come?? 👀). Even this kidnapping storyline was so fun and lighthearted. All Alvez wants for Christmas is for Michelle to love him! And he was trying so hard, the cutie 🥹
So why the four stars? This had a hint of that almost-heist feeling I got from Wed to the Alien Prince, book two in the series—it really wasn’t a heist in the slightest, more like putting together clues so solve a little mystery. But anything that takes away from the banging loses me a bit, I think 😆 Also, Michelle had an anxiety disorder, and though loved the rep and it showcased this couple’s compatibility, her POV stressed me out sometimes 😅
In a groundbreaking mission, Earth has launched an all-female team into space with the objective of establishing contact with extraterrestrial life and fostering goodwill. However, the team encounters unexpected challenges that go beyond their initial expectations. A significant aspect of this encounter involves differing perceptions: while the human women see it as a welcoming initiative, the aliens view it through the lens of traditional customs, including marriage.
This situation unfolds in a complex and often hostile environment, raising concerns about the safety of the human team. As the narrative progresses, the dynamics between the women and the alien alpha warlords evolve, highlighting their protective instincts toward the newcomers. This interplay leads to intense chemistry among the characters, prompting them to confront their feelings and desires amidst the challenges they face.
The story is rich with elements of action, misunderstandings, fear, pain, love, and humor, creating a multifaceted exploration of relationships across species and the journey toward mutual understanding and connection.
It was good! But I’m left with questions, like where’s the beast and Abby’s story? Tati’s? Carmen? Another one I forgot but I’m just confused that they didn’t have their own story lol
This author always makes me laugh out loud with the silly situations she puts her characters in. The different cultures between the couples always causes little misunderstanding that are sometimes really funny. I mean the fact they didn’t even realize they were getting married is a little humorous. My only complaint with this one is the FMC drove me crazy. I get the whole anxiety thing but her questioning every little thing got old super fast. It was hard to laugh at the funny moments when she was constantly questioning every situation. Other than that I enjoyed the overall story, The MMC was super sweet and pretty funny. Can’t wait to read the next one.
Alvez will totally win your heart, can he win Michelle’s? ***** Rating: 5 stars Steam: 3 flames Genre/Tropes: Alien/Sci-Fi Romance, Golden Retriever Hero, Accidental Marriage ***** Alvez has decided it is time to win Mee-shell's heart. And based on Bex’s romance novels, the best way to do that is to kidnap his reluctant bride and entice the smart female with a mystery she can’t help but want to solve. Uh-oh… I don’t think things will go quite as Alvez expects.
Michelle’s character was very relatable. Michelle suffers from crippling anxiety and panic, which makes her feel vulnerable, alone, and, well, anxious. Michelle will have to face both her inner demons and the creatures found on Sueva if she is to find peace and happiness.
I absolutely loved both of these characters. Alvez was kind, patient, and protective towards Michelle. Michelle is strong, and intelligent, she just needs someone to help remind her of that. Alvez is the perfect male for the job! The storyline was intriguing and the world-building immersed me into another world. I truly enjoyed this book and it may be my favorite of the series.
Do I recommend? I sure do! Will I keep reading this series? I sure will, I can’t wait to see what the Roth King has up his sleeve…
Another good entry to this series, it builds on the ‘verse created while leaving intriguing breadcrumbs for the next spinoff. I like that this addresses the FMC’s anxiety and panic attacks, and while the MMC messes up it’s understandable. Still having fun with idioms and the misunderstandings that result. Overall, enjoyable and I’m interested in reading the next one.
The heroine suffers from panic attacks. All of her medicine from Earth has run out. She doesn't want to tell anyone or ask the aliens for help.
The hero heard Bex a human woman talking about kidnapping as a form of courtship. So he finds the heroine very drunk and she agrees to go on a trip with him.
She had told him she liked mysteries so he takes her to a village that mysteriously all the people disappeared and left behind one word, salt. It doesn't make any sense.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
They fall in love. It turns out the village disappeared because of a giant snail that eats people. Hiding in the salt water lets you avoid it.
They are rescued and hero buys her a wedding ring so he can marry her like a human man would. She gets medicine for her attack and birth control.
3.5 stars "Wed to the Alien Gladiator" by January Bell offers a compelling but somewhat repetitive reading experience. The story's compulsive readability is evident, drawing readers in with its engaging premise. However, as the narrative progresses, the formulaic nature of the plot and character dynamics becomes more apparent, occasionally necessitating a break to avoid monotony. Despite this, the book still holds promise for those who enjoy the genre and may find themselves returning to it at a later time, seeking comfort in its familiarity while craving a change of pace in between.
This book was cool. I love how each woman gets a pet every book. I also love how life expectancy was addressed as well.
I didn’t really get how Feruz was so scary. Because he didn’t suck up to Tati?
A few mispelled words. They treated him like a prized cow? I doubt there are cows on their planet. Sometimes the aliens don’t understand idioms and curse words and then other times the authors has the aliens use them. It’s kind of confusing.
Again, I’m just obsessed with this new world and the characters. Love the mental health representation, and the showing communication being key for a healthy relationship. I am getting annoyed by them all getting pets though, and I don’t know why 😂 it feels like a toy set “comes with big alien boyfriend, translators, and a pet!”
January Bell has done it again! I love all these characters. The way this book dealt with anxiety and panic attacks was delightful. I’m so excited to see what happens next.
This is my favorite of the series so far. Alvez was definitely the sweetest of the aliens and Michelle was very personable. I loved the mental health representation as well. Plus, gotta love a man, erm, alien, who plans a kidnapping, takes you to a place where an ancient mystery needs solving (because he knows you love those), just to spend time with you and hope you fall in love with him.
I liked this one a lot. I will say though that if reading a story where one character has severe panic attacks could be troubling for you, be forewarned.
Now listen. If anything, this male knew what his woman liked. I, personally, would’ve ran screaming out of that creepy village so fast. But hey, it worked for them.
Okay so I like the series but it's getting redundant. Alien and human have an adventure, get a pet, have sex... wash and repeat. I might come back but I need some Ruby Dixon right now..lol
💖 “You are safe. You are with me. I will make you mine and leave you wanting nothing.” ~~~ Michelle is one remarkable woman and I loved her so much! She’s one of the Federation’s top analysts. And since the Roth invasion, she’s been dealing with anxiety and panic attacks. Michelle is so strong and brave to deal with them every day and especially now, on Sueva. Even more, I adored her brilliant analytical mind and her fierceness. She’s absolutely amazing!
And then, we have Michelle’s husband - Alvez - the scarred Gladiator! He’s one strong, fiercely protective and dangerous warlord. But there is so much more to him than his fearsome appearance. Alvez is also so patient, supportive, easy-going and thoughtful. I just loved his lovable golden retriever energy. And I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about this utterly irresistible male! Really, Alvez is the whole package of book boyfriend excellence!
I absolutely adored everything that happened between Alvez and Michelle. Of course, the best way to win your reluctant wife is to kidnap her. Just ask our favorite Chaos Queen! And Alvez followed all the monster romance instructions to the T. Not only does this spectacular male see that his wife is struggling, but he’s willing to do everything to make her feel better. I absolutely adored him for being so thoughtful, patient and supportive of her. Alvez is exactly what Michelle needs and I loved how well they fit together. Even more, a bit of miscommunication and innuendos lead to some spectacular banters and teasing that had me laughing out loud. The overgrown alien and his little carnivorous flower were such a spectacular team and when they finally gave in to their undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot and I couldn’t get enough of either of them! Honestly, those Suevan warlords definitely know how to make a woman feel good and special!
In addition, the storyline was phenomenal! Not only do we have an ancient mystery to solve, but we also get an amazing, smart and absolutely adorable alien skunk-dog. And the Roth are preparing for an invasion and everyone is on high alert. With all the suspense, danger and unexpected turns of events, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, the story is another remarkable addition to the series! It’s filled with so much emotion, adventure, danger, twists, humor, ancient mysteries, scorching hot romance and phenomenal characters.
I couldn’t put it down and loved every single page of it! And I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Meanwhile, does anyone know how I can get on the next ship to Sueva? I volunteer to do some very thorough research on a willing Suevan warlord. You know… for science… 😏
And, finally, here is one more quote, because I loved this story so much: “You are it for me, you are mine, all of you. I want to revel in your intelligence and your sweetness and soothe all the hurts the worlds have put on you. You are what I’ve searched for my whole life, Mee-shell.” 💖🥺💖
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wed to the Alien Gladiator took everything I already loved about this series—feral yet endearing warlords, fierce human heroines, and wildly entertaining forced-proximity shenanigans—and added an unsolved mystery, an alien skunk-dog, and some deeply emotional character growth. The result? Absolute perfection. Michelle is one of the smartest analysts in the fleet, but after discovering the Federation only chose her team for First Contact because they were women, not because they were the best, her confidence is shattered. Add in her struggles with anxiety and the chaos of an intergalactic war, and she’s been keeping her hulking gladiator husband at a very safe distance. But Alvez? He has had it. His solution? Kidnap Michelle, take her to a deserted island, and give her a mystery she can’t resist. His logic? If Bex’s romance novels have taught him anything, it’s that human women love a little danger and adventure. (And okay, maybe he’s also just desperate for his wife to finally see him.) Alvez is such a standout hero. A former gladiator and slave, he may be all muscle and dominance in battle, but when it comes to Michelle? He’s gentle, patient, and so deeply in love. His golden retriever energy mixed with warrior deadliness is absolutely irresistible. And Michelle? Her analytical mind, her struggle with anxiety, and her fierce determination made her so relatable. Watching her slowly open up, start to trust herself and Alvez, and realize that she deserved to be loved? Beautiful. And oh, the chemistry. Their banter, full of miscommunications and innuendos, had me cackling. And when they finally give in to the tension? Off-the-charts hot. Alvez is devoted in every way, and let’s just say the Suevan warlords do not disappoint. Beyond the romance, the mystery of the vanished villagers was so well done. It added suspense, danger, and some truly eerie moments, and I was completely hooked. Plus, the introduction of new allies and looming threats has me so excited for what’s next in this world. This book was the perfect mix of action, humor, heart, and heat. Alvez and Michelle’s love story hit every emotion—sweet, steamy, and full of those big, sweeping “you are my everything” moments. I can’t recommend this series enough, and I need the next book immediately!
Ever have one of those days, where you just needed to let loose a little? Michelle, the key strategist on the human team, is intent on having a good time with her teammates. What she doesn’t plan on is getting “drunk as a skunk”; so inebriated that she lets Alvez, her Suevan warlord husband, to take care of her when she’s been avoiding him for weeks. Alvez takes this opportunity to “kidnap” Michelle and fly her to a nearby deserted island for some rest and relaxation.
Alvez, a former gladiator and slave from the pits of Roth, has a huge heart and tons of empathy in addition to his muscular physique. He recognizes that Michelle is having a hard time acclimating to the fact that the Earth federation only picked her team for “First Contact” because they were female; not because they were the best and most qualified candidates. This has crushed Michelle’s confidence, trust and overall demeanor; which only exacerbates her anxiety and depression. She has hidden her mental health problems the entire time she’s been in the fleet as she’s worried about the stigma.
Alvez, having gone through a similar situation, tries to help by taking Michelle somewhere relaxing so that she can hopefully reduce her anxiety levels. Unfortunately, the island has a nasty predator that can’t be identified as it somehow evades traditional tracking techniques. Alvez and Michelle team together to figure out the mystery of this unknown predator. In the process, Michelle gains a new appreciation of Alvez’s warrior skills and his empathy. Scattered throughout the story are some steamy situations which will fog up your glasses, so to speak. I won’t go deeper into the plot so as to not spoil it. This is an amazing story that tackles the sensitive topic of mental health with grace and thoughtfulness; all while the plot gets more mysterious and Alvez and Michelle start falling in love. A quote by Alvez sums up the spirit of the book: “You are it for me, you are mine, all of you. I want to revel in your intelligence and your sweetness and soothe all the hurts the worlds have put on you. You are what I’ve searched for my whole life, Mee-shell.”……Gives you all the big feels……Highly recommend.

Title: Wed to the Alien Gladiator Author: January Bell Pages: 224
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
~ Everything was starting to get better for Michelle. Not amazing, but better at least. Yes she still had panic attacks that she hid from her friends and her future husband, Alvez.
That is of course until het husband kidnaps her and takes her to the sight of a historical mystery. Like seriously who just kidnaps people.
Alvez is determined to make Michelle love him, scars and all. And this is the perfect way to do it. He's sure of it.
That is until they are attacked amongst other inconvenient events that puts Michelle is danger and makes Alvez question het suitably for this beautiful, but fragile human. ~
~ Every day you choose to continue is a day you choose to be brave. ~
This book. This freaking book! I had a feeling that Alvez and Michelle would be my favourite and I wasn't wrong. I connected and related with Michelle so much during this story.
Golden retriever Alvez hss my whole entire heart. He is so patient with Michelle and has a eay of calming her panic attacks and quieting her overthinking. I really am a sucker for a 'help me through my panic attack' scene in a book. He doesn't try to change her or force her to 'be better'. He helps her, supports her and believes in her. *My heart* Alvez might be my favourite out of the four heroes we've met so far (we all know about my soft spot for aliens who think themselves not worthy).
Michelle's growth in this was amazing to see and to see her open up about her issues and receive the help she needs, was amazing to read and I know it's going to help so many people with anxiety disorders to feel seen.
Bex, our Chaos Queen, continues to shine. Seriously she brings so much to the story, without taking away from the original couple.
As always I'm super excited for the rest of this series. Feruz & Tati story is going to be pure fun. Then there is missing Abby and her Beast. So much more to come from this series and I'm here for each and every one of them
~ Did I mention the cute alien pets? Seriously go read this series for all the feels and laughs. ~
These books just get better and better and all the characters have different personalities and perspectives that keep the story following. Michelle is a human that was sold off by Earths government to be brides to Suevan males for technology to protect earth but the all female grew new nothing of it and on there arrival there is a party but it’s really a wedding and now they are married to Suevan warrior males and this is Michelle’s and Alvez story. Alvez was taken as a small child by the evil Roth and was trained to fight as a gladiator in there pits for entertainment and Alvez was the best and was undefeated but was soon freed and is back home on Suevan where he now finds himself with a human wife that keeps him at arm’s length as try’s to win her heart. Michelle is still angry at what earth done to them all but some are happy with there husbands but I’m not sure about Alvez who is sexy as sin for an alien who I’m very attracted to but won’t allow herself to be happy and the panic attacks don’t help but he is always there to talk her through them which makes her feel safe. Alvez has been told by one of the other mated husband that the human like a man to take charge like in the Orc books his wife reads and they kidnap them and take there wives when they want and so that’s what Alvez does with Michelle but it doesn’t turn out like he was told but to help he knows Michelle loves a good mystery and that’s where he brought her to the beach to find the missing tribe of Keilaiba who vanished. How does it all turn out and do they solve the mystery and do they fall love and what does the skunk dog she called Lassie have to do with it all and with danger around them do they get back to there friends in Edrobaz city. Brilliant book and a must read.

Michelle, the female human lead, is furious to find that Alvez, the male lizard humanoid lead, has kidnapped her, believing that romance novels are prescriptive and that he’ll be able to convince her to fall in love with him this way. Alvez has abducted Michelle but he has paid attention to what she likes - he’s taken her to a historic village location where, many years ago, the villagers just disappeared and no one was able to find out why; he’s hoping to engage her intelligence analyst’s mind and solve a mystery whilst wooing her. But Michelle suffers from debilitating panic attacks that have been especially bad since her medicine was lost on arrival to this planet and that’s inhibiting her abilities and willingness to engage with anything, even Alvez and the unwilling attraction she feels towards him…
This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a fun, fast paced, steamy romance. I enjoyed Alvez’s gentle determination to engage Michelle in a way she’d enjoy. I appreciated the effort he’d put in to supplying for her needs and that she was genuinely an individual to him, not just a breeding partner. I empathised with Michelle’s panic attacks and appreciated Alvez’s calm care and efforts to materialise a solution, amusing though the results of that were. I enjoyed Michelle’s persistent strength. I enjoyed the animal companion when joined them and the active support role it played. I enjoyed the integrated secondary characters and the support network that both lead characters had around them. I am GREATLY enjoying the way this world is building and the plot bunnies the author is creating. I’m looking forward to so many more stories!.

That was an enjoyable read, start to finish! I'm thoroughly invested in this series and eagerly awaiting the rest of the books (even though this one was literally just released early). They were only mentioned a bit in this one but this book got me interested in Tati and Juls' stories as well, although Abby's will be next.
Alvez could almost come off as happy go lucky compared to the other warlords but clearly has more to him than that. Michelle and Alvez have depth to them and actually talk about their feelings (despite Michelle claiming she doesn't know how to - she still manages). I liked Michelle's analytical mind, I liked Alvez' honesty on his own healing journey, I LOVED Lassie, and I loved the mystery aspect of the plot.
I really appreciated the way this book addressed anxiety, especially anxiety rooted in trauma, and the repetitive spirals you can end up in. While some of the details of Michelle's experience may be a little silly (some of the things she said during her loud, overly honest talk as a side effect), the overall experience feels rooted in reality. It was nice to see a character not only realize they need to ask for help but other characters not judging them for their behavior as a result of their mental illness.
I'm also looking forward to Nydo's story in the Roth series that January Bell is beginning. I wasn't sure what to think about the Roth (and pictured them more like greys than the beefcake revealed on the first book's cover lol) but I'm happy to find out!
(PS - they still feel more like a friend group of college roommates over trained space military team though)
