On October 28th, China devastated the US with three EMPs, followed by a massive, preplanned land invasion. That’s old news.
China and North Korea now control much of the western coastline that stretches from Portland, Oregon, to San Francisco. The US Government is in tatters, only able to muster a small band of Special Forces men who work to chip away at the enemy’s efforts to extend south into the LA basin, where they would control all of California’s coastline.
Knowing he can’t do it alone, Cam works tirelessly to convince local military resources in Fallon, Nevada to assist him in freeing the prisoners—including his wife and children—held at a labor camp in Santa Rosa. He must bide his time waiting for help, which threatens to drive him mad.
Inside the labor camp, Jen does her best to stay alive and safeguard her children, all the while planning and scheming her own escape plan. She knows the cost of their freedom will be high… Will she have the courage to pay it?
Rick Tippins was born in Ventura, California, and raised in Napa Valley. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired law enforcement lieutenant, he served in SWAT, Narcotics, and Homicide during a distinguished career with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Rick began writing in 1994 during night shifts at the county jail. What started as screenwriting evolved into a passion for novels, leading to the release of A World Slowed and many other titles across post-apocalyptic, science fiction, and thriller genres.
Book 2 of the California October Fall book. There were some minor editing issues, mostly punctuation and some missing articles; nothing too distracting. What was distracting was the minutiae of planning the prison camp raid and the overwhelming amount of military detail. Also 2 guys going on a mission and decided to resort to fisticuffs to resolve their differences? Seems like they may struggle to have proper priorities. I also didn't understand when they needed to transmit from the Foster's radio, why not have done so from the abandoned farm which would have been destroyed instead of the couple's longtime home? I did like a lot of the characters and Johnny in particular was a rock star, especially compared to the base commanders in Fallon and Pendleton. The end was a bit predictable but enjoyable.
If you like action, you're going to love this book! What an adventure this one is! Cam is driven almost to insanity looking for his family. He doesn't care about his personal safety, just that of his captured wife and 2 kids. This installment will keep you reading! Looking forward to book 3 in the California falls series.
The characters were well defined. It makes you think about our world today and how quickly it can change. Cam is a father that gets to do the right thing during N all out attack on the US. He returns to the ways of war to Find he's failed rescuing his family. My only complaint would be the failure to tell of his wife and kids journey to safefy.
Excellent follow on story continuation! The first gently set up the tale and this one sent it into high gear. The detail and logic of the planning or reactions once the battle started were outstanding and kept you locked in to the climax of every part.
This is one of the best series of books that I have ever read. The action is none stop and the plot of what has happened to our country is something that could happen.
What are the best books I read in the series so far. It kept me engaged from start finish. I'm looking to reading more of this series with this type of story line. Thank you again to all the authors who participated in this series.
Fantastic read! A major page turner. Being born and raised in California I’ve been on ever foot of freeway if not back road, this book felt so real. Wow I’ll be watching for #3.
Johnny who's call sign ending up being AT For auburn tours Shows everyone how to fly make the back from a mission And they rescue the people in the Prisoner camp. Not everyone make it back. Hand credible ' of bravery Are seen
If you start reading this outstanding book, you will not be able to put it down. So well written, so graphic in it's describing the reactions of the people involved, I'm in awe. I've loved every book in this series.
This whole series idea is outstanding! Each one better than the last. California Fall definitely my favorite but expected #3 to be available. Hope I can remember my new heroes! Great job!
Better than the 1st book, which I loved! Can't wait for #3 in print!! I read the biggest part of this while cruising in the Caribbean and thought what a shock it would be to come back from a cruise to SHTF!
1 small critique... bugged me saying highway 80 not I-80!! LOL
Loved this book even more than the first. The characters are so defined and the abrupt changes in everyday life really had me thinking what my family would do if the unthinkable happened. Also made me glad some of our family weapons of choice might not be registered...oh, life in California!!
Will written And we'll communicate The author obviously knows his subject well. The book was well balanced with Need to know facts and action An extremely good read
This whole series is excellent. Each book has its own hero's fighting to free America from the clutches of an evil invader . I would definitely recommend these books .
Very enjoyable read. Lots of action and characters well written. Fight scenes are very realistic and the characters working together really makes the book.
