That was delightful! Short, sweet, and full of heart and a perfect introduction to this author’s work for me! I’ve already put This Time Around on my TBR!

There’s a nostalgic vibe to the story that makes you think back to your teenaged years and crushes because the story is relatable and organic. There’s nothing really not to like except of course I prefer a different POV, but that’s not the author’s fault LOL

I love Troy Duran so of course I enjoyed his narration and Devon Grace is new-to-me with this audiobook but I’ll be looking out for more from her for sure!!

This one of those stories that will have you riding the emotion roller coaster. Early crushes but another got in the way. Now they have a second chance. Will they make this work? Will they overcome the baggage? A beautiful story of Mary and Brad that is so well-written. It truly felt like you were there sharing it will friends (kind of like Laurie). They writing is real, heartfelt and you can feel their issues. You can feel them going through relationship struggles and joy. The characters are well-developed. It was great to have Katie, Chase, Timmy, and others from ‘This Time Around’ make an appearance. The descriptions make the town sound like any small town, USA. A beautiful second chance romance that you must read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming second chance at love sweet romance. I was kept happily turning the pages of this standalone story, which had me hooked throughout. Mary had a secret crush on Brad when they were younger, but thinking he wasn’t interested in her, she ended up dating Brad’s friend Jim. Meanwhile, Brad left his hometown after he graduated, as he didn’t want to see his friend and the girl he had a crush on together. Having put his past regrets, of not confessing his feelings to Mary, behind him, he’s worked hard building his construction business into a success, but he’s forced to return home for his sister’s wedding.
His plan is to get through the weekend and then leave, but then he meets Mary again, and she’s newly single and ready to date. Mary is surprised to come face to face with her school crush, but instead of a shy lanky boy, Brad is now a gorgeous confident man, it’s just a shame he seems hesitant to get to know her again. When a matchmaking friend gets involved, Brad and Mary are forced to face the painful misunderstandings that cost them a relationship during their teenage years. I love Brad and Mary’s characters, as they are both likeable and relatable, and their chemistry really came across in the narrative. I was cheering the couple on hoping they would get their second chance at romance and a well deserved HEA!

Just loving the cover and even more so once I got lost in between the pages ❣️📕

Brad , Mary and Jim were school friends and Brad had a soft spot for Mary but before he gets the chance to admit how he feels Jim swoops in and Mary becomes his girl . Brad kept tabs on them and I don’t think he ever let her go ….

Brad has to head home for his sisters wedding and while he’s there he’ll check in on his new project , he’s in construction and he’s building a tiny home community with a shared garden that’s eco friendly and green friendly so other than surviving the weekend he’s got that to keep him busy

As I said I don’t think Brad every really let Mary go and he’s always held a candle for her and that’s really evident when their paths cross again and all he wants to do is protect her , rekindle what they had and let it blossom into something more oh and make sure other men leave her alone 😂🙈🥰

Mary and Jim’s break up is till a little fresh so I get that Mary is a little hesitant or careful but Brad works his magic in so many different ways , I even fell I. Love with him and I’ve been happily married for 21 years !!!! 😂❣️

I just loved being part of this journey and it was good for the soul to catch up with old friends and family and these people truly are friends that become family and you just want to be apart of it all ! These are people you’ll go to war for ❣️

Reckless Heart (Second Chance Romance #2) by Jane Suen

This isn't the first book I've read by the author. Reckless Heart is the second book in the Second Chance Romance Series. Reckless Heart is a great read. The author knows how to build words.

Mary has broken up with her long term boyfriend. Right before her sister's wedding. Now she's single and her old high school crush is back in town. Can they hash out the past and move forward with the future? The quote I chose for Mary is: “You’re planning to expand?”

Brad is back in town for Katie's wedding. He doesn't plan on sticking around for long. Then a friend sets him up with the one who broke his heart. Can he get past that and everything else that has happened? The quote I chose for Brad is: “Kell? She’s long gone. Kell almost broke me, pulling a stunt behind my back. She was ruthless, aggressive, and greedy, and became a competitor who’d do anything to get an edge on a business she was secretly setting up. And that’s what she did. Double-crossed me. In hindsight, it was a hard lesson. I’d trusted her again, but I learned from it, and in the end, I became a better person, and the business is in a better place.”

Highly recommended for Sweet Romance lovers.

This author is truly gifted, in all that they do and create. I loved this first book in this series, and this one was no different. I loved the connection ties to the previous installment. This truly was an impacting, good read.

The book was deep with feeling. Powerful with emotions and tangles of the heart. Mary and Brad were two souls with connections from the previous books, and I was rooting for them. Mary was carefree, but full of life and heart. Brad, had a troubled past, but wanted something he felt he could not reach. Pain of the past intercepts and causes walls, but to embrace a future, they must work through those feelings of the past and think about what the now and future could be, if they trust each other as well as themselves, if they let it. Beautiful writing. Great character depth as well as development. Of course the author has a way with the words they write and create. Emotional and powerful. A great read. I loved it all, truly!

This book was such a joy to read, and as well to get lost in. I really love the writing that this author does in all of their books. Highly recommend this must read book. series, and author! All are a joy to read!

Good second-chance romance!

Brad and Mary had crushes on each other back in high school (even if they never admitted it to each other)...but Mary ended up dating Brad's friend Jim. As soon as Brad could leave after graduation, he did. He has been busy growing his own business while keeping the past in the past. However, a return home for a wedding changes all that.

Mary has just experienced a break-up and is single and ready to mingle. When she is pushed together with her past crush at her sister's wedding, she is ready to see what kind of fun she can have. When Brad and Mary get to reminiscing about the past, will they be able to move past the misunderstandings of their younger selves? Do they have a future? Or is whatever they could have had doomed by the past?

This was quick read that I enjoyed spending time with. This is the second book in the series...with some crossover characters...but you don't have to have read the first one to understand what is happening. I think both characters were relatable and their story made for entertaining reading. Overall, a good book.

Reckless Heart is one of my all-time favourite stories by Jane. I really enjoy her writing. This engaging emotional tale has all the feels. It is a short story that is a sweet second chance romance. I read the book in one sitting as the story just called to me and the characters were wonderful likeable and well developed. It has everything to delight the sense and keep the pages turning. With high emotions, angst, steam, misunderstandings, pain and hurt are just some of what you get. My only wish once again is that it was longer.

Mary is ready to embrace her new life as a sexy single woman and has her sights set on a certain someone. However, it may be more difficult than she thought.

Brad returns for his sister's wedding and has mixed emotions seeing his lost crush. Does he have it in him to relive the pain from the past and move forward?

You will have to read this beautiful tale to see what happens. A perfect present for someone for Christmas.

I truly enjoyed this second chance romance. The characters were completely loveable. I also felt that the storyline was completely believable. I also loved that I could feel the butterflies between Brad and Mary even though they were years out of high school. I know that I could relate to misunderstandings in high school. I love that this misunderstanding is given the chance to be set right. More importantly I love that you could feel their emotions jump off the page. If there is one thing this story definitely had going for it was that the author is able to pull you in to it. I found myself thinking about my own high school experiences and wondering how I would handle it if the opportunity presented itself to correct these understandings. It definitely got me thinking about how time changes people and how in as many ways as you change you might also stay the same. I loved this second chance romance!

This is a really heartwarming sweet, second chance romance story. I had read the first book which I really enjoyed, so was happy to read the next book in the series.
As with the first book, I would have liked the book to be longer as i felt it came to quite an abrupt end. There was so much more scope to add to the story and at only 150 pages it felt more like a novella.

In saying that I really did enjoy Brad and Mary’s story. Both are great characters and I could easily relate to them. Both had crushes on the other as teenagers but were to shy to do anything about it. In fact Mary broke Brad’s heart when she ended up in a long term relationship with his best friend, who she has recently broke up with this. This time Brad is determined to get the girl.
The story is well written and flows well with enough action to keep you entertained and gripped by the story. I really would have liked to have read more about Brad and Mary.

Definitely recommend, especially if you want a quick read.

Brad and Mary were friends of the same group growing up until Mary embarrassed him and broke his heart. 10 years later he still holds that grudge. Reading the book, I was like ok it’s 10 years later…get over it!!! To say Brad annoyed me throughout the book is an understatement but oh well. When Brad shows up back in his hometown for a wedding, one friend arranges him and Mary to be at the same diner at the same time and then she runs out leaving them to have breakfast together.
They end up spending some time together even running into Mary’s ex who she ended up breaking Brads heart over. Will Brad be able to get over it and forgive Mary or will they just spend some time together as friends before Brad goes back to his life of making tiny houses? I guess I thought the book was well written. I have loved other books by this author.

Jane Suen is a first time author for me. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Reckless Heart, especially being the second book in the Second Chance Romance series. Overall, this was a pretty good book. The characters were realistic, although I felt that some of their inner dilemmas were a little childish. Holding onto a hurt from ten years prior (when both parties were mostly oblivious to the feelings of the other party) seemed rather extreme to me, but did lend the story its main idea so it did work for the story. Jane Suen created a wonderful, realistic world as well. I did feel like the story ended rather abruptly, but overall, this was a good, quick read. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick romance.

Reckless Heart is the 2nd book in the Second Chances romance series. It could be enjoyed as a stand alone book. There are crossover characters and references, but there is enough background details provided that it doesn't feel lacking. I really loved this book. Brad and Mary were friends in high school, and both had crushes on each other, but Mary ended up with one of Brad's friends. A wedding brought them back into each other's lives and a mutual friend pushed them together. They spent a holiday weekend reminiscing about the past. Will they both speak up about their feelings, both past and future? Or dwell on the hurt from teenage stupidity? Or perhaps bury the past and start over? Wouldn't you like to know......

Reckless Heart (Second chance romance series Book 2)

I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to read other books by this author and enjoyed each of them. She hasn't pigeon holed herself in one genre which means you never know what she will be releasing next.

The local cupid is working her magic to help two hearts reconnect after several years apart and she's pretty slick. I even fell for it.

Mary and Brad have some pain associated with the other but even after more than ten years those wounds aren't completely healed.

Mary keeps way too much to herself and I wish she had reached out to her sister or anyone really.

Brad probably keeps way too much to himself too, but I think he reason is a little different. He's a good guy with a great heart.

Looking forward to what comes next from her.

Mary and Brad have some history together but not the kind that Brad was really wanting to have. His heart was broken by Mary right before prom when she chose another man. Such is the life of men all over the country today. However, in the case of Mary and Brad, they are given an second chance at love when a well-meaning friend brings them back together.

I enjoy reading books by this author. They are real, raw, clean romance novels that have you feeling like you are a part of the story, or at least watching from the closest armchair. The characters are relatable and you'll be cheering them on in their journey. There are a lot of ups and downs but in the end, the second chance is worth it!

Have you ever had a lost love story that you'd like to have a second chance on?

This book is the second book in the Second Chance series by this author, but can be read alone. Mary and Brad used to be friends. They grew apart over the years and recently reconnect, thanks to a mutual friend. Mary was looking for love after ending a long-term relationship. Brad hadn’t yet found someone to share his life.
Can they forget a painful and embarrassing experience from high school and find love with one another as adults?
I like Mary’s character. I find her to be believable and relatable. I don’t care for Brad’s character as much. He seems superficial to me.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to more stories from this author.

Sometimes, impetuous choices we make as teens have long-lasting consequences. This is a story about second chances, ten years later. The hero and the heroine are amazing characters. Readers get to travel with them on a journey of self reflection. Readers get to witness the main characters stand up for themselves in ways they never had before.

A story about two people reuniting after humiliation, heartbreak, and vindictive behavior broke them apart. Reckless Heart is a second chance romance. The author takes a while to actually get to the root of the back story. Majority of this story is written over a day, with a lot of flashbacks.
Mary and Brad secretly had a thing for one another when they were growing up. That is till Mary crushed his heart by humiliating him by going for his best friend in front of all of their friends. Yet 10 years later he still feels protective of her. He fights a battle within himself while they spend a day together. Mary, freshly single, still feels an attraction to Brad, but feels she doesn’t deserve him after what she did. How these two navigated the day they spent together was sweet.
Does Brad forgive her?
Does Mary want to be with him?
The author put together a story that had all its working parts. It felt a little lost at times in the beginning, but that was cleaned up as the book went on. I liked the story that was presented. It makes one dwell on their own past and memories.

Reckless Heart (Second Chance Romance Series Book 2) by Jane Suen - Review by Codi Parham

I adored this second chance romance. The characters were lovable, the storyline believable, and the setting endearing. Brad and Mary missed their chance in high school, will they have better luck ten years later? Jane Suen has an engaging style that pulls you right in. I loved this sweet little tale.

Mary and Brad have known each other most of their lives, and from grade school on, Mary had a crush on Brad. When Brad takes too long to ask her to senior prom, Mary makes a fateful decision that changes the course of their relationship until many years later. When Mary’s sister Katie gets married, she is somewhat surprised to see Brad in attendance. Mary hopes that she can save her relationship with Brad before it’s too late. Brad isn’t sure he can get over the pain and bitterness from that fateful decision so many years ago.

I really enjoyed the story of Brad and Mary. They were both so likable and relatable. I like how the author wove the storyline, inserting moments from the past into the present situation. Although it is a short read, you will not fall short on finding the emotion in the story. I was only going to begin the book but ended up reading it in one sitting . A very sweet story about finding love in second chances.

Brad and Mary grew up together and had secret crushes on one another in high school, but never got together. Brad moved away so he didn't have to watch her be with someone else and used his time to keep hustling and growing his own business.

When he travels back home a decade later for an old friends wedding, a local cupid makes sure Mary and Brad end up running into each other, and nudges in all the right places to coax conversation about past misunderstandings. What will come of clearing the air?

Mary is down to earth, believable, likable. Brad is hardworking, a bit stubborn, also likable. A little dreamy, sweet. Can take a little time to get into it and get the feel for the presentation. Enjoyable world building. Second book in the series but easily standalone.

Who recommended this book to me and how long have you been a liar liar pants on fire?

Thoughts while reading:
⁃ Ahh a fellow Mary! And she’s the mc, fun
⁃ Lmao not me reading this while single at 27, us Mary’s gotta stick together
⁃ The writing is coming off juvenile 🫤
⁃ It’s so cringey and cheesy. I can normally handle cheesiness but it needs to be balanced out with something, otherwise this is just nonstop fluff- totally without substance
⁃ His POVs don’t feel believable at all
⁃ Of course there’s instalove and nonexistent relationship building
⁃ Lots of telling and not showing
⁃ The writing is so awkward and stilted- it feels super amateur
⁃ They’ve never dated or even been super close separate from the friend group and yet he thinks he loves her and wants to marry her 🤡
⁃ Y’all, this book is 170 pages, and I’m only a quarter of the way in and we’ve ALREADY heard about the hallway incident (in which they bumped into each other at school and the whole universe shifted) four times!!!! There is barely any freaking real estate in this book to build the relationship and yet they’ve gone over the same scene, what at most could be described as a meet cute, again and again. TBH if they bring it up one more time I might just have to quit
⁃ They spent a decade apart…
⁃ “He faltered under her weight and bulkiness… but he managed to hold her up and break her fall” I shit you not I could not stop my jaw from dropping open. That’s how him catching her when she falls is described???? That he’s struggling to hold her given her “weight and bulkiness”?!? Jail!!! 🗣️ and then to say he “managed” to hold her up with “labored breaths” and his face all “scrunched” up with the effort?!?! 🚨 gave me full body shudder fr 🥴
⁃ “He was an old fashioned man at heart. Mary wasn’t like the other girls, who were so available and ready. He wanted to treat her like a lady, she was special to him” excuse me? 🚩🚩🚩 I was gonna let the “not like other girls” go given the shitshow the book is, but then it follows it up with that?!
⁃ I keep trying to give the benefit of the doubt but THIS is our love interest???: “Brad felt conflicted thinking of Mary’s betrayal…but he knew she wasn’t a good person, the way she treated him. Brad wanted Mary to beg him for forgiveness” I’M SUPPOSED TO ROOT FOR HIM?? he just said he KNOWS she’s NOT A GOOD PERSON. Not a “she made a mistake” or a “she hurt me” but that she’s a bad person
⁃ Part of me is just staying out of spite to find out what Mary’s big “betrayal” back in high school was. Because they’re acting like she murdered someone with the way he’s acting and the fact that it’s been 10 years
⁃ Thank goodness I don’t have to wait long for that answer because I can’t take much more. Of course it was the mildest of fucking mild things that could’ve happened. She asked him if he was going to ask her to prom because she’d rumors he might, and when he didn’t respond (because it wasn’t exactly *how* he was planning to ask her 🙄), she said she’s going with Jim instead and kissed Jim in front of him. Boo fucking hoo. Mind you, they weren’t dating or seeing each other at all outside the friend group. And if even he was hurt, which is understandable, it’s been a decade!! It’s honestly pitiful he held on to that for so long and blew it so far out of proportion. At least now I can quit this book in peace without needing to sate my curiosity ✌️

"Reckless Heart" by Jane Suen - A Heartwarming Second Chance Romance that is an Absolute Must-Read!
Jane Suen delivers a heartfelt and emotionally resonant story in "Reckless Heart," a tale of second chances, rediscovery, and the enduring power of unspoken feelings. From the first page to the last, Suen masterfully weaves a narrative that captivates the heart and leaves readers with a warm, satisfied glow.
The story centers around Brad, who left his hometown years ago, carrying the weight of unexpressed feelings for Mary, who chose his friend Jim before he could confess his emotions. Fast forward to the present, and Brad is back in town for Mary's sister's wedding, hoping to navigate the weekend without reopening old wounds. Little does he know that Mary, fresh from a breakup, is ready to explore her newfound independence, and the stage is set for a reunion neither saw coming.
Suen excels in character development, breathing life into Brad and Mary with a nuanced touch. Brad's transformation from the lanky, shy figure of his youth into a confident and successful man adds depth to his character. Mary, too, evolves from the girl who once chose another, blossoming into a woman ready to seize her own destiny. The chemistry between the two is palpable, and the hesitations and vulnerabilities they share create a relatable and authentic connection.
The plot unfolds with a perfect blend of nostalgia and anticipation, as the characters navigate the complexities of their past and the matchmaking efforts of a well-meaning friend. Suen skillfully navigates the emotional terrain, delving into painful misunderstandings and unspoken desires from their teenage years. The result is a storyline that tugs at the heartstrings and resonates with anyone who has ever wondered about the roads not taken.
The pacing of the narrative is spot-on, keeping the reader engaged and invested in the characters' journey. Suen's writing style is both evocative and accessible, allowing the emotions to flow seamlessly from the page to the reader's heart. The themes of forgiveness, self-discovery, and the transformative power of love are beautifully explored, leaving a lasting impression.
"Reckless Heart" is not just a romance; it's a testament to the resilience of the human heart and the possibilities that lie in second chances. Jane Suen has crafted a gem of a novel that will leave readers with a renewed belief in the redemptive power of love. If you're in the mood for a heartwarming, beautifully written story of rediscovery and romance, "Reckless Heart" is an absolute must-read.

Reckless Heart is the second instalment in the Second Chance Romance Book series by the talented Jane Suen. It is a wonderful, sweet, clean, feelgood, second chance contemporary romance. As expected from this skilled author, Ms. Suen has once again delivered a story full of emotion, touching and tender moments, friendship, family dynamics, angsty misunderstandings, endearing characters, nasty ex’s, matchmaking, drama, hope, healing, and much more.
This is Mary and Brad’s story- we met these characters previously in Book One, as Mary is Katie’s (MFC from Book #1) older sister, and Brad was also a guest at the wedding (in Book #1). He and Mary share a complicated and somewhat painful past. Having been friends at school they share many fond memories, but there were also secret feelings that were never divulged- and when hearts were broken it tore them apart. Heartache and life led them in different directions- but now, ten years later, fate has brought them back together. Old feelings resurface, simmering embers reignite, and hope blossoms. But will past hurt, miscommunications, and resentment cost them their second chance at finding love and happiness? This is definitely well worth the read to find out…
I love Ms. Suen’s books/stories, but especially her wonderful characters. I loved getting to know Mary and Brad better and following them on their story. The characters are all so well-developed- cleverly crafted into realistic and believable individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks and flaws. Including the secondary characters- most of whom are recurring characters from book one. I love that Laurie continues with her sneaky (and clever) matchmaking schemes. She’s a great friend. I love how quirky and likeable the characters are (except the ones we are meant to not like)…
Another great read from Ms. Suen- can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next…
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Jane Suen!

This is a beautiful second chance romance. It is a short read and I read it in one sitting. The author's writing really draws you in. The characters are so likeable and relatable that you just know this had happened to someone somewhere and it makes the story even more realistic.
It's a heartwarming story about young lost love, heartbreak and finding the strength to take a chance on a love that was lost in the past.

In this story we read about Mary and Brad. In their teenage years they had an attraction and spark but Brad's shyness lead him to be too scared to let Mary know how he felt and he lost her when she started to date his friend.
Fast forward and things have definately changed. Brad is now a confident and successful man. He returns to his home town to attend Mary's sister's wedding. All he wants is to leave without the risk of losing his heart all over again.

Another big change is that Mary is single and finding her way in the world on her own. When she meets Brad again there is no denying that the attraction and feelings are still there.
The question is will they be prepared to take a chance on each other this time, or will the pain and misunderstandings of the past stop them from finding a future?

Although I'm not much of a romance reader, this kept my interest all the way through. If you've read an earlier book by Jane Suen, called This Time Around, this is an add-on to her prior novel, This Time Around. I don't know what else to call it because it's not a sequel, but the main characters in Reckless Heart are background characters in her earlier book. The protagonist, Mary, in the current book, is the sister to the protagonist Katie in This Time Around. Mary falls for Brad in Reckless Hearts (they were always in love in a way since high school 10 years prior). Mary and Brad were background characters in This Time Around, but are the leads in Reckless heart, but Katie and Chase (the stars in This Time Around) are now the background characters. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, trying to describe this unusual connection is not something I've come across before. But anyone who had read both books would recognize this well-done author trick to connect the two books. Good, clean writing. Well done.

This is the second installment in the Second Chance Romance Series by Jane Suen, though it can be read as a standalone book.
Mary and Brad, whom we met previously in book one, share their story of heartache, misunderstandings, love, and past humiliation. It's been ten long years since these two childhood friends have talked or seen one another when one of their friends arranges for them to run into each other. Can they overcome the heartache of the past and the feelings that were never divulged in order to be friends or more? Are second chances really possible? Will the old feelings that resurface overshadow the pain, humiliation, and heartache of the past? Will Laurie continue her plotting and matchmaking schemes? She is truly an amazing character and friend in this series.
Jane Suen has written a beautiful, clean, feel good, story of love with heartwarming characters. I'm enjoying this series and hope to read more by this talented author.
