An unsettling story of Peter and his crew coming across an alien entity on their spacecraft. Delivery is imaginative and I in particular enjoyed the sci-fi feast it platted for me. It was surprising to see many genres blend into this one adding additional layer of interesting plots. Philosophy of paranormal included here was intriguing. The alien entity itself has been in the shadow and seems to possess metaphysical powers manipulating the humans aboard the craft. The setting of the narrative is futuristic and yet it has the human angle that leans again on the survival of their species. Horror element is fluid, and it defines the shuddering plot effectively.
Any time a story goes beyond a certain word count, it needs to be highly creative to keep the reader engaged. This one strived to do so with dialogues more than illustrious narration. It depends on the readers how they factor this author's unique style when reading the book. Some may find it difficult to follow and yet others might not. Since I am not an expert of anything and writing is an art, it is necessary to encourage a different outlook. I enjoyed this book as it includes all the right genres that sit extremely well to my liking.
This sci fi novel is part of a trilogy in which the other two books are yet to be published. The story takes place 2000 years forward in the future. I liked the pace and descriptions . The imagination of the author is good. A little improvement in prose might add extra mileage.
Although i enjoyed this book. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
I enjoyed this disturbing sci-fi horror story. It was highly imaginative and had interesting, complex characters. It was also well written with good pacing. The gripping plot kept me hooked for the majority of the story. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I stumbled onto this book specifically because it was connected to the editor, Emily Sawyer, who has fast become one of my favorite authors. So I figured if she did the editing for this story, it must be great. And it certainly was. Although I’m not sure if I like it as much as Sawyer‘s work, I’m definitely ready to read more and this, psychologically, twisted adventure is great for anyone interested in fast-paced, disturbing, and twisted works of art.
This isn't my usual read, though I do enjoy some sci-fi. A story about a 4 dimensional alien being that decides to destroy the human race through getting people to torture and murder others or commit suicide, this had an interesting premise but felt clunky and too philosophical in places.
Reasons I didn't really get on with it: I often had to skim the torture scenes because they were too gruesome for me. I didn't really understand the cause of the being's hatred towards humans, there's some discussion in the beginning of how she hates them because they're like ants to her? But I don't go around setting ants on fire because they're below me. At times the references to movies and stuff like Kingsman felt out of place when they would have been written over 2000+ years before the characters were born. They didn't have new movies and books? I get it was trying to use examples relevant to readers of the book but it knocked me out of the future feel. Finally, there was a section that was basically philosophy about literature and what makes a great writer, focusing on Stephen King and Miguel De Cervantes which seemed a bit heavy handed.
Overall, if you like a mix of horror, sci-fi, and philosophy this might be the book for you.
These are my thoughts about the book: • This is very different from my usual reads but I actually finished this book in less than 3 days, it is very intriguing. • There was a part where I got bored/annoyed reading chapter 30, it was almost 14 pages just of conversation, although I do understand why it was included. • I've already read a decent amount of books in my entire life but the main antagonist of this book was probably the most deranged. I feel bad for all the victims, especially Max and Sherry, those poor kids. • I was actually rooting for Peter and Jacob. • In my opinion, the ending was a bit weak/lacking. • The overall reading experience was fine, but I just hope there was more explanation towards the end. I feel like the ending was rushed. • I really appreciate how well thought this book was. I admire the creativity and imagination of the author.
My favorite quote from the book: "It was as if I traveled through hell. But it was by passing through that fire that I became who I am today. That which tried to bury me and drown me, somehow, is the very same thing that caused me to emerge like a phoenix rising from the ashes.” - Sherry Sweesy
A completely honest review I liked the beginning and got into the heads of the characters. It seemed like a good start, but it was a bit predictable. I did consider DNFing it, but then i powered through. Now, here I am saying it's a good book but predictable. I wasn't too happy with the ending either.
Thank you to the author, and Boooktasters for a chance to review this.
This was a dark, and fun gory ride. It is definitely in the extreme horror section. Don't worry I like the extreme sometimes, so that didn't stop me from reading this. If you like extreme horror I suggest checking this one out. If you only like regular horror this might not be for you....but read it anyways. please.
I had a great time reading this novel. The narrative idea was very chilling. I believe that this is how Earth will look in the future. Fantastic fusion of horror and science. Till the very end, I couldn't put the story down. I appreciated how it challenged my imagination and illustrated how agrarian society will eventually become. This book made me ponder aliens in great detail and made me question if they genuinely possess extraordinary abilities beyond our comprehension.Sometimes I thought the story was moving more quickly than usual. I kept asking myself, "Are humans this easy to manipulate?" right from the start.
Of course, I rate my own books and write one review for myself. I loved my book, or I wouldn't have written it. What can I say about it? Don't read it if you are offended by gay sex or if you have a weak stomach. There is a lot of blood and gore. I tend to think it is suspenseful. But it won't end how you expect, so brace yourself.
