Mio married Yamato Kujo, her lover and lieutenant in the yakuza. After talking about their complicated family relationships and their views about having children, their future gets built little by little. At that moment, Yamato receives word that his sworn younger brother, Daigo, was attacked! Yamato, desperately trying to contain his red-hot anger, unintentionally says words that he shouldn't say to Mio...?
The fact I read volume 1 to 7 in one day says enough about the pacing. The story is interesting and the characters feel really grounded and you are rooting for (most of) them.
Still despite my somewhat love for yakuza type stories (more yankees) I think I will forget everything about this story in about 6 months. It's not bad at all yet... there is something missing. Maybe because every thing is a bit too subtle? The humour, the story, even the love between the main characters? Which seems outrageous to say because their love is very strong. It is also based on both characters knowing in what kind of world they are living in.
But still, maybe I need some drama in these kinds of yakuza type stories. Which is a bit of a shame.
Loving this Series. This one focuses a good bit on Mio's guard, Diago who was seriously injured by Shirosaki's men. I love Diago. I know he is not Mio or Yamato but he is so likeable. I liked Shiki but Daigo is gregarious. He talks to Mio. He treats her like a person. Probably the reason Yamato is allowing Mio to help Diago.
An absolute MUST READ. But read with one eye open and ready to run because the Yakuza are coming!
I like that in this volume we got to see and learn a bit about Mio’s bodyguard: Daigo. I’ve always been interested in his character since he first appeared, and I enjoy his loyalty/friendship with Mio and Kujo. I also found it interesting that a good chunk of this volume was to show off Shiki and Amaru’s dynamic and even gave a bit of a flashback for how long they’ve known each other.
