Baron Kenneth Boxby has spent his entire life drowning in responsibility. But he’s finally ready for some fun…and by fun, he means drinking, gaming, and bedding women. His first official act as a rake? Buying an illegal gaming hell. The problem? His new partner’s sister is as beautiful as she is intelligent, and Mirabelle has got some scheme for him that he doesn’t understand. But the more she flits about, tempting, teasing, and challenging, the more tempted he grows. He can’t succumb to a woman’s charms now, his freedom is at stake and he won’t be denied.
No one can play the game like her…
Though her title is lady now, Mirabelle Smith wasn’t always. Bastard daughter to the Earl of Easton, she grew up without any of her father’s wealth or power to protect her. Which is why when she determines to be the belle of next London’s season, she knows that playing fair won’t get her what she most desires. The only way to win is to use every trick she’s carefully stashed up her lace cuff. Because if growing up on the wrong side of London has taught her anything, it’s that cheaters often win, and gambling only works if you know how to play…
The problem? She needs the help of a certain baron. Partial owner of a new gaming hell, Hell’s Corner, Baron Boxby’s part of her dark world and the glittering ton that’s just past her reach… But how to convince a man who doesn’t want any entanglements to aid her quest?
Lovely story of Baron Kenneth Boxby and Lady Mirabelle Smith, who after many bets over all kinds of things decide to wager on love. Loved these characters, thier interactions and how they come to realize who they really are. Highly recommend.
This is my 85th book my Tammy Andresen and have been reading her since 2017. I consider her one of my favorite authors.
I enjoyed this story. A big too short. I feel you don't get great depth of characters when it's such a quick read. But overall a cute couple. I liked Ken and Mirabelle. Sounds like it will be an interesting series.
A Bet with a Baron: Regency Romance (Lords of Temptation #1) By Tammy Andresen
A new year and a new series by Author Tammy Andresen and it looks like the purchase of the Den of Sins by the owners of Hell’s Corner may not be as solid of a deal as all the owners thought it was.
Lady Mirabelle Smith had one focus, to learn how to make the ladies of the Ton see that she was an equal to them. It’s unfortunate that Mirabelle believed being a good hostess, a good dancer and a witty conversationalist would put her and her family in a better light where the Ton was concerned….all good traits for a Lady to have but not when they already knew her family history. But she believes that the Baron of Boxby could help her with all those things.
Kenneth Boxby wanted one thing, to see his sister happily married to the new Marquess of Highgrove; once he was sure she was happy he would leave on a trip to the continent with his friends. Until the day of Emily and Highgrove’s wedding, the day he started to see Mirabelle as someone he could easily change his plans for.
In this new series, someone is buying up gaming dens and it seems like whoever is doing that might just have nefarious plans for the future.
When a threat is made against Mirabelle in the hallway of her family home everything changes. The newlyweds, Mirabelle and her younger sister Anna all decamp to Boxby’s London home. There would be more people to help protect the ladies while the men try to figure out who is buying gaming dens left right and center!
A wonderful start to a new suspense filled series where the Smith brothers and Boxby and his two other friends can keep an eye not only on their businesses but the ladies as well. It was an enjoyable read, where the storyline flowed easily from even to event and we have so many new people to learn about.
Though her title is lady now, Mirabelle Smith wasn’t always. She & her siblings were ‘the other’ family of the Earl of Easton. She is determined to be the belle of next London’s season but knows that playing fair won’t get her what she most desires. The only way to win is to use every trick she’s carefully stashed up her lace cuff. She needs the help of a certain baron, Kenneth Cross Baron Boxby who is part owner of a new gaming hell, Hell’s Corner & his sister has just married her brother. The start of a new series & the Smiths are a complete delight & the dynamics have me eager for the rest of the series. A very well written engrossing read, I loved both Ken & Mira & their wagers, which they both won. Their chemistry sizzled & attraction swiftly turned to love. There's a mystery about the person trying to buy gaming dens which added some intrigue My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
An exciting new series that this first book, wets your appetite for much more, very well done to the author Tammy Andresen.
One of the most entertaining reads that I feel could go on and on with such fantastic characters.
Lady Mirabelle Smith wants to be a Lady for real, not because her brother came into a title. Her friend Emily has recently married her brother so who does Mirabelle ask for help, Emily’s brother The Baron Boxby.
This books talks to you with so much going on with the brothers, you are actually hoping the author continues with each character so much fun could be had with this family.
Baron Boxby didn’t count on the sort of wayward fun that Mirabelle has planned, he wanted to play the field, not some sort of betting game with his sisters best friend.
Oops, maybe he should have been more careful and kept out of her sight. This is a fun, easy to read book, a great story and some brilliant characters that I can’t wait to read more about in the coming series. The first in a new family drama series from Tammy.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Mirabelle Smith is half-sister to the Earl of Easton. Her eldest brother Ace, also a half sibling to the earl, has inherited a marquessate. The current earl, East, their half sibling has supported the move. Ace has married her best friend, and Mirabelle has a plan to get Emily’s brother Ken, Baron Boxby, to help her conquer society. She knows that even though she is now a lady, she is not accepted and is whispered about. She plans to make a wager with Ken and win it. The wager is amusing, and a sure thing on her part. The lessons begin, and the wagers continue. Ken had hoped, or he thought he did, that once Emily was married, he could live the bachelor life he had missed taking care of her. That was until Mirabelle. This story is a lot of fun. Mirabelle and Ken are a wonderful couple. They learn a lot about themselves from each other. The Smith brothers are amusing and entertaining. They are also wild not at all ton. I enjoyed this first book in the Lords of Temptation series. An amusing family finding its way in society, a lovely romance, and a fantastic hint at what comes next. I am looking forward to it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
A quickie review. Kenneth Boxby is a Baron and is friends with Mirabelle's brother. They have bought an illegal gaming hell. Kenneth falls for Mirabelle, who is a bastard daughter of the Earl of Easton. They have some betting between the two of them. A very enjoyable read and the main characters were fab. I love to start reading an exciting new series. Already pre-booked #2 and #3. 5☆
The first book in the Lords of Temptation series. Lady Mirabelle Smith and Baron Kenneth Boxby's story of a bet, is a fun, well written story that I enjoyed reading. The has a great storyline that held my interest until the end.. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In this first book of a new series, Mirabelle Smith fully recognizes that her background and upbringing are detrimental to her future in society. Wanting to assist her brother with his new title, she knows that she needs help. Her squad of rambunctious brothers is of no help whatsoever, however, their business partner Baron Boxby fits the bill perfectly. Kenneth Boxby has his own ideas about the future now that his sister has been married off to Mirabelle's brother, but when the daring young lady proposes a wager, he knows he's been had. The novel is witty and entertaining, but when danger comes knocking on their door, Ken knows he has no choice but to keep Mirabelle safe. In spite of her brothers, the novel comes to a lovely conclusion and both Ken and Mirabelle are winners. I received a copy of this entertaining romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Mirabelle wants to be a proper lady and accepted by the ton. But her brothers aren’t suitable for escorting her nor helping her toward her goal. She needs help. Baron Boxby might be the perfect person to help her, but how does she get him to help her?
Great love story filled with fun family dynamics! I am excited for this new series!
I received a free copy of this book from the author. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was an okay beginning to the Lords of Temptation series (a spinoff of the Lords of Scandal series), but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.
I actually never felt much of a love connection between Ken and Mirabelle. They were attracted to each other, but they both spent too much time focusing on their other goals, and not working on a good relationship.
I read the Lords of Scandal series, but it was some time ago, so I had already forgotten a great deal about the plot and characters. It would help, I think, to read the Lords of Scandal series right before starting this spinoff series.
Mirabelle was likable enough, but her belief that she could only help her family by having a successful season was just dumb. She didn't even realize that marrying Ken, a baron, would help her family a great deal. It was nearly the end of the story before she realized that -- even though she had been falling in love with Ken for a while.
Ken was mostly likable, and I loved that he was such a caring brother. I did think it was kind of silly that he was so determined to have fun, now that his sister was married -- especially when he realized he didn't even enjoy the rakish lifestyle. He did finally get it, but not until near the end of the story.
Other reviewers have mentioned that this series has lots of historical errors, and that the couples' behavior and language often doesn't fit the rigid cultural requirements of that time period. That is true, but I don't really mind in this case -- since I am reading the series merely for entertainment. If I were looking for historical accuracy, I would read a classic author like Jane Austen.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Book 1 in this new spin-off series starts with learning more about the Smith Family; they are owners of East End gaming businesses - Hell's Corner & recently, the Den of Sins. Mirabelle Smith grew up in the mean streets along with her siblings, illegitimate children of an earl who somehow orchestrated her oldest brother to receive the title of marquess. Even though she is now Lady Mirabelle, she knows the ladies of the Ton whisper about her and the only thing she desires is to become a true lady and be accepted as the belle of the next season, but she knows it won't be easy and she will need help and with a few tricks in in mind, it will work. She needs the help of a certain baron, Kenneth Cross Baron Boxby who is part owner of a new gaming hell, Hell’s Corner & his sister has just married her brother. She plans on placing a wager and winning with Kenneth Cross, Baron Boxby, who is the brother of the lady who just married her older brother, the new marquess. He will be able to help her become a correct lady of society. Ken is happy is sister is married and after his parents died years ago, he has been responsible for her well-being - now it is his turn to go be a bachelor and drink, gamble, run around but after meeting Mira, is that what he really wants to do. This was such a fun romance from two people from different backgrounds that bring the best out in each other. What a great couple with a wonderful story to tell and the secondary family members are very entertaining and likable - I can't wait until they all get their own story. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.
WHAT A WAY TO START A NEW SERIES!!! A Bet with a Baron by Tammy Andresen is the first book in her new series Lords of Temptation and I am totally blown away by this book!! What I totally loved about this book is that Tammy used some of her characters from her series Lords of Temptation which was an incredible series and yes I have read all of the books in that series. I feel like old friend that are now coming back. A Bet With A Baron is so very well written and very easy to read. It had such wonderful characters and had the real feel of the regency era with vivid descriptions. This story has a bastard daughter of and earl, a baron that is now free since his sister has now married, planning a tour with his friends to live it up with gambling, drinking and staying out late, wanting to make sure his sister is sleeted and happy, wanting to be the Belle of the ball, wanting to enter into the ton, a battle of wits that have boons for the winner, needing someone to teach her how to be a lady, being put down because of their birth, a brother who is now the earl, a half brother who has accepted their station, support and falling in love. This is a must read and needs to added to your TBR list and I am highly recommending that you do… you won’t be disappointed.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Tammy is off to a great start with her new series Lords of Tempation. Mirabelle Smith is a "lady" wanting to fit in with the Ton. She wants this for her family more so then herself. She just isn't sure how to go about it. One thing she does know is that her brothers are not the ones to help her move through society. She has a plan to get Baron Boxby to help her. Kenneth Cross, Baron Boxby is finally going to be free to have a little fun. He's making plans to go on a tour after his sister marries Mirabelle's brother. He wants to live a litte and be a rake. Or does he? He's a caring, good man and he admires Mirabelle despite her background. They make a wager which leads to another wager and then the fun begins. This is a short, enjoyable read with a little mystery, suspense, character building, romance, battle of wits, rambunctious brothers, gaming hell and so much more. I can't wait to see how the rest of this rambunctious family fares. I received this book as a gift and voluntarily left this ARC review.
I read three of the books in this series out of order. They would be best read in order and am going back to read the ones I missed. I still really enjoyed the books and had no problem following the stories. This is Kenneth and Mirabelle story and it is amazing. Kenneth has spent his life taken care of his sister and making sure she had everything she needed. Now she is getting married and he is free to finally be a rogue, drink, be with women and he has just the place as he is part owner now in a gaming hell! Unfortunately the gaming hell brings more problems then anyone could see. Also is his partners sister, Mirabelle, she is beautiful, smart as a whip and has him in her sights for a mission of her own. Kenneth knows he should not miss with her, she has five of the biggest, meanest brothers around! As they set wagers on just about anything and the winner getting booms. It is laugh out loud funny at times and super steamy at other. I love all the brothers and how they treat both their sister. Being raised around older brothers I also love how Mirabelle takes them in hand when ever needed, it a hoot! Be sure and get a copy and get started.
Okay, I was eager to read this book as the premise sounded creative and good and the cover was attractive, however, it was a disappointing read. 1. I liked the rough and tumble Smith brothers. They had personality and were entertaining. Mirabelle, the FMC, wasn’t bold enough for me. She showed signs of backbone but her determination to elevate her family (the reason why she felt this way made sense) wasn’t an interesting enough journey. 2. The author eludes to the past lives of Mirabelle and her brothers but not much is revealed. I kept wanting to know more about their upbringing. That would’ve made a more exciting story. 3. The couple realizing their feelings for one another was rushed, especially on Mirabelle’s end. They were placing wagers one minute and then jumped to love. 4. And the danger aspect…I don’t know if it’s continued in the other installments, but it dropped in for a quick second and then fizzled out. I won’t be continuing this series. What a disappointing buy.

This is the first book in a new series, Lords of Temptation. I know I am going to love this new series, written by a wonderful author. This book is about Mirabelle who wants to be popular and liked by everyone when she has her season. She wants to help her family to take their place in the Ton. Because she was not brought up as a lady, she needs some help, so she decides to ask her sister-in-law’s brother to help her. Ken Boxby sister is now married, and he has freedom, he does not want to be tied down to anyone. Mirabelle decides to make a bet with Ken, which she wins, so now he is helping her. I liked Mirabelle and Ken’s interaction. I liked Mirabelle’s brothers, even though they are rough around the edges. I am looking forward to all her siblings’ stories. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest opinion.
A Fantastic Story! Right from the start A Bet With a Baron will keep your attention from the moment you begin the journey with Mirabelle and Kenneth until the very end. After taking care of his sister and seeing her wed Baron Kenneth Boxby needs break. He has made grand plans with two of his friends to enjoy three months of debaucherous fun, until one Mirabelle Smith blindsides him. Mirabelle is both innocent and a minx and she has his full attention.... one problem, her four muscular, rowdy over protective brothers and then the fifth brother, just as over protective, that held the family together. Oh, and then if that isn't enough they are all business partners. Tammy Andreson has written a story with great cast of characters that come off the pages and pull you into this emotional ride that keeps you involved until the very end and with an enjoyable plot
Wow. There’s a lot of love for siblings in this story. I enjoyed tea the sassy comments and attitude from the characters. First off traveling with your brothers and sisters in a coach across the country is asking for being tortured. Mira and Ken found themselves in the middle of both of their families drama, but Mira put that on the back burner as she had her own match making sprouting into big blooms. I rather Ken’s character handled himself very well. The little game that ken and Mira had to pass the time with the family was an enticing benefit. I enjoyed the fun and entertainment from all the siblings. The best was the sweet romance with Mirabelle and Kenneth.
Mirabelle wants nothing more the to be a successful debutant who is worthy of society. Not for herself but the better the standing of her family. She hasn’t had the education other young women have had. She enters into a bet with Baron Boxby, brother of her sister in law. As the wagers continue her dreams change. As Ken helps her learn how to navigate the ton love blossoms. The story is full of interesting characters. Her four rough and tumble brothers, her sweet sister, a Duke and an Earl and of course an unknown villain. These characters provide the backdrop of this most interesting series. I’m excited for the next featuring her brother, Rush.
This is the beginning of a series. It introduces the main characters, a potential villain, and a large story arc. The romance is cute and playful. Mirabelle may have street smarts but she lacks true understanding of the the ton females and is very unrealistic about her success. Ken is sweet as he realizes the type of man he is and the type of woman he wants. It’s a sound beginning but I felt the ending was rushed to begin the second book. The heroine for the next book was thrown in the last chapter and Rush was set up in the epilogue. I feel like there should have been more about Ken and Mira getting married.
A wonderful start to a new series by an author I adore!
She has recently become a "lady" by her brother having been given a title, but she has no idea how to act the part! Her brothers of course are less than helpful so she goes to their partner in the gaming hell they own.
He was finally free of family responsibilities since his sister just got married and only wants to be fancy free to do everything rakish he can!
But when she comes to him for help, what's a Baron to do? Especially when it involves a scrumptious bet!!
We had Ace, Marquess of Highgrove in the last of the Lords of Scandal series, now the elder of his sisters Mirabelle gets her book. All she's ever wanted is to accepted by society and not looked down on. But with her upbringing, with five rough brothers is no help to her although Ace has tried. So Mira decided that her new brother in law Baron Bixby should help her and sets up a series of wagers to ensure his help.
My main issue with this book, like many by this author, is that they don't finish properly. You're happily reading and suddenly the book stops.
Nothing much happens apparently the previous book had the siblings reunited as a family with the eldest illegitimate son becoming heir to the legitimate earl and becoming engaged to the sister of a baron. This book starts at their wedding and the baron and oldest daughter hit it off. They engage in harmless bets that reward them with more time together. Love ensues. There is a poor set up for an overarching storyline and villain and the set up for the next book. Low stakes and an easy read.
This book was a fun read, but at the end it became more intriguing. Mirabelle was Emily's best friend and became her sister-in-law. Ken and Mirabelle made one wager which led to more and that only led to more fun that he didn't know he was missing in his life. Than danger came knocking at the door. I can't wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend this book! 👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤
Being the bastard daughter of a Duke with 4 brothers, Mirage lie wanted nothing more than to have a season and prove to the ton that she was good enough. Her oldest brother had been granted a Marqueset and married into society but Mirabelle wanted to help. but then she met a Baron and all her plans changed. MS Andersen has started a series that promises nothing but love and adventure. Its gonna be s good
I love the premise of a courtship based on bets, although they don’t ever risk anything of consequence.
The story doesn’t really end. We don’t even get a wedding scene, just preparation for the wedding at the end. None of the threats are solved, which is why the series continues, but the ending was more of a”to be continued.”
There is 1 fondling scene and 1 full smut scene. Both are towards the end of the book, last 3-4 chapters. They were decent, not too much description and not too little.
A bet with a Baron was without a doubt a fantastic story. All the characters in this story were very well written and made this story even stronger. The main characters being LadyMirabelle Smith and a Baron. And bets to get what she wanted. And put over protective brothers in the mix.A well written story
I liked the main characters, Ken and Mirabelle, though I didn’t feel there wasn’t much character development. States this is book 1 but I got a feeling that the book picks up from another and a backstory is sort of missing. I adored Mirabelle’s brothers and their raucousness. Sounds like it will be an interesting series.
