Atlas Conrad is hotter than the sun. To the world, he’s known to be richer than God. To the world, he’s known to rule the fashion world with an iron fist. To me, he’s my dad’s best friend’s son. To me, he’s my arrogant boss who thinks that the world revolves around him. He can have any woman he wants at the snap of his fingers. But he wants me. Only me. The woman with a scar stretched across her face. He calls me gorgeous. Society calls me ugly. He calls what he has for me an obsession. I call him crazy. He reminds me what he wants, he gets. And he won’t stop until I’m his. Mind, body, and broken soul.
J.M. writes new adult dark psychological romance, exploring the minds of obsessive, morally complex heroes. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and crafts stories where every villain deserves a happy ending.
the writing was HORRRIBLE there was no plot. i loved poppy and jasper but there wasnt enough emotion at all and i probably won't be reading from this author again.
Honestly, this book was fun to read but oh my god is the fmc so fucking annoying. Like I could've gone the whole book without her in it and it would've been better. Also the mmc was a dumbass and so dry. This is literally trash trashy romance.
This is the second book in the series. They can be read as standalone books. I haven’t read the first and was fine. Both Lake and Atlas come from very rich families. They have lots in common in that aspect. However, the two couldn’t be more different. An accident has left Lake with a scar on her face. The accident changed just about every part of her life. Atlas grew up not wanting to be like his mother and in turn turned out like his father with out even realizing it. Atlas has wanted Lake for awhile now he has a chance. Lake is leery of starting anything with Atlas. What if she opens her heart to him and then he throws her away just like her ex. I was torn with this book. I felt for the characters but at the same time there was just something that held me back from loving it. Atlas is no doubt an ahole. But at the same time I think he uses that as a cover. With Lake he allows her to see those parts of him. He does hold part of himself back. He gets frustrated that Lake doesn’t tell him she loves him but he doesn’t tell her either. He starts to several times but something always interrupts them. That aside this book does end on a happily ever after. I would love to read about Poppy and Jasper. Great job J.M. Stoneback.
Lake is a young woman whose life and face is marked by an accident. Atlas is an old family friend who does nothing but make indecent propositions to her, but she always rejects them because of her complexes. Atlas will deploy all his charms to break down the barriers that Lake puts between them, but sometimes it will become a very difficult task. A fun and sexy story.
1 ⭐️ me only making it to 26% speaks volumes often times I make it much farther but this was just straight shit. “I’m going to fuck the shit out of you” no sir u are not, fucking my shit out of me the worst dirty talk ever. And what was that shit with “I fold my legs Indian style” that’s just annoying and unnecessary.
And let me tell u her best friend or whatever going back to a man who wanted another woman huney that ain’t love ❤️ . I genuinely feel no chemistry with them they talked about smutty books and the author in some way recommended another book in her own? Please focus on your own before you start recommending others.
A good emotional read. I loved the book so much as it had a wonderful plot. I did connect well with the characters.
Lake - A female who doesn't have self love on herself. She didn't live herself after the scars caused due to an accident. I'm so glad that she finally learnt how beautiful she was.
Atlas - A perfect man who knows how to love is girl. He was always into her and made sure she fell right into his arms. I didn't expect he would leave her almost in the end of the book but then I didn't get angry on him because it would have definitely been hard for him, if she didn't reciprocate his love or rather love herself.
This was the first book by the author and it made me to look into her other books.
Thanks a ton for this angst filled ARC @j.m.stoneback and @wildfiremarketingsolutions
This book was so good! I loved Atlas. He was obsessed with Lake m, and with Lake being so insecure because of her scarred face, she needed someone to build her confidence. They both did things to hurt one another but were meant to be together. The ending was so sweet and I can’t wait to read Jasper’s book when it’s completed.
Lake Ortiz’s life was never the same when a car accident with her mom left her face scared. Now she sees herself as less than beautiful and tries to hide in the shadows instead of being seen. When her father moves to Florida with his new wife she is forced to get a new job working as an assistant to a friend of the family.
Atlas Conrad is rich and powerful in the fashion world and knows exactly what he wants and will do whatever it takes to get it. He has his eyes set on finally getting Lake for himself but will she want him in return?
When Atlas wants to mix business and pleasure will Lake be willing to cross the line? Will Lake finally see in herself what Atlas sees or will he finally let his obsession with her go?
This is an author I generally really like but I struggled with this book and the character of Lake mainly.
Lake came from a very successful family with a model mother and a very successful dad as a photographer but when she and her mom were in a car accident that left her face scared she viewed herself differently. She and her fiancé broke up as she was no longer the person she was on the outside and this really changed her. I was really frustrated how she couldn’t believe that Atlas was in love with her and how she was constantly hot and cold with him.
Atlas was so in love with Lake and when you learn about everything he did for her I was so frustrated that she just didn’t believe his feelings for her were genuine. He did everything in his power to show Lake how much he felt for her but she was up and down with him that I wasn’t surprised what ended up happening with him.
The book struggles with getting the reader attached to the characters as Lake kept making me angry over and over again. She would drive Atlas away and then expect him to come back to her when she was ready. Towards the end I understood Atlas’s cold reaction and decision as his heart was continually getting broken but then the reader is supposed to be on Lake’s side and it’s up to Atlas to make another grand gesture to win Lake back.
Definitely a little frustrated but the ending was positive.By Rebecca
Full disclosure: I only read this because it is one of the few books I could find (all pretty much the same) with the word "arrogant" in the title. Years ago, as a means of discovering books that might be hidden treasures, I started making my way through the alphabet (every sixth or seventh book I read). Yeah, it's very anal, but I actually have discovered some hidden treasures.
So I knew what this one was going to be from the start--quickie chick porn. And I'm an older gay man, not a chick. So the formula was no surprise: a pretty young girl named Lake (with a facial scar that is never explicitly described) has the hots for a family friend, a super-hung hunk named Atlas (!). Oh, I should mention that Lake is from a wealthy family, and Atlas is SUPER wealthy (worth tens of billions). The plot is pretty much girl plays hard to get, boy finally gets her, both have second thoughts, and then a happy ending.
Plus there's a lot of explicit sex. Not the explicit sex I know from gay male porn--in that the sex act is primary and whatever scant plot there is is secondary. Here it's reversed. The plot (hackneyed though it is) is primary, and the sex is secondary. In gay porn Atlas's body would be described in exhaustive detail; here we get a brief description of his muscular build and large endowment. The difference was borderline fascinating. The sex is quick with no mind-blowing orgasms.
One thing I did like: Lake is the one with control in the relationship, even though Atlas is clearly the alpha male.
Let me say up front, that I've read almost all of JM Stoneback's books and while I liked some more than others, I've always enjoyed them. I really hated having to give this one a three, but I really struggled with this book for so many reasons. First of all, the writing seemed really off. It definitely didn't flow well and I found the storyline difficult as well. Like you plopped into their relationship a 1/4 of the way in and was trying to figure out what was going on between them. Then they're suddenly in bed together, but then you realize they've known each other since they were kids, but you couldn't tell... 🤷🏻♀️ And yes, it felt as confusing as that sounded. It also negatively affected their chemistry for me as well. I also struggled with both of the MCs at various points. The heroine was very down on herself about her appearance, appeared to be going through positive changes to accept herself, but then just fixed her face with surgery. And while I commiserated with the MMC about the FMC's emotional flip-flops, he definitely came across as petulant. A lot. But I did like the fact that he definitely had some depth to him past the playboy facade. I'll definitely give this author another go and hope this was a one-off. I loved Villainous and Chasing Gunner.

Title: Arrogant Boss Author: J. M. Stoneback Format: ebook Genre: Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Office Romance, Boss/Assistant , Billionaire Standalone: yes Part of a Series: I don’t think so but definitely could be POV: Lake, Atlas Steam Level: steamy at times 3.5/5
Ugh. I liked this story as a story. But I couldn’t stand the characters. Neither one had the courage to step out if their comfort zone and tell the other how they felt. It was annoying and one of my least favorite trope in romance. Atlas would put himself out there but Lake would reject him then his feelings would get hurt so he’d lash out and her feelings would get hurt. Blah, blah, blah. And then Lake’s self-pity and negative self-talk and emphasis on oh I’m not pretty anymore was just irritating AF. Both characters were immature and I wanted to smack both of them. I had high hopes for this book since I love enemies to lovers but if I had know n how angsty it was going to be I would have skipped it. But if you like angst then this book is for you.
I received an advanced copy of this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This was very refreshing to read and I would love to listen to the audio version as the banter was very real and steamy. I enjoyed it.
The author made use of good flow of conversation between the characters-giving an insight into the workings of each character.
It comes across as written from a dual point of view but I’m not so sure about this. There are just some dedicated chapters written from the point of view of the protagonists.
Arrogant boss provides an opening into the world of an insecure person, offering glimpses of how they navigate life and how they are treated.
It is a romance but I cannot help but highlight how it subtly deals with the h’s insecurities. If you are into celebrity stories and the Hollywood razzmatazz, then this is your book.
There are minor editing issues but not enough to put you off. Despite this, I will still recommend this book and look forward to stories of the other characters.

Stand-alone Part of a series (book 2) Dual POV
This was my first book by the author and I really enjoyed it! Lake has major insecurities by the way she looks after a horrible accident leaves a scar on her face. Ever since the accident, she deems herself unworthy of love, because no man will think she is beautiful anymore. Atlas has loved Lake ever since he first met her, but she was with another man and then the accident happened. He sees Lakes true beauty within her. Lake begins to work with Atlas as his EA and the chemistry between them is 🔥. They both have troubled pasta that affect their love so they agree to a friends with benefits situation, but quickly enough feelings get involved. Will Lake ever be able to get over her insecurities to admit she is worthy of love?
Jaspers book is next & I’m looking forward to reading that when it comes out! ❤️
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I LOVED this book, Arrogant Boss so much. It's so different and definitely a much better book than Heartless Boss. This is a story about true love, loving yourself and working for your dreams. It's about looking beyond the surface both on the outside but also on the inside. It's about forgiveness and letting someone into your heart even if you will get hurt and it's about being vulnerable to love.
There are lots of ups and down in this book but as I read this book, I realized they were very much needed. If Atlas or Lake had confessed their feelings at different parts of the story, something would have been missing. To get to the point that they could be together they needed to do things in the order they did so that they could ride off into the future with full and open hearts. I think this story shows just how important the right time is as important as the right feelings are.
What an amazing read from this author, I was sucked into the pages from the first book and kept reading long into the night. This is the story of Atlas and Lake, these two are just so perfect for each other. This is a good emotional read from start to finish, the characters need to overcome some things to get there happy ever after. This story has it all romance, angst, passion, and emotions by the bucket full. You are always guaranteed a fantastic read from this author.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Release date - 19 Oct 2023 Print length - 274 pages
I loved this book! He's so bossy. Atlas & Lake.....cool names for cool people. Atlas is a big time fashion designer and Lake is on her way to be the same. They are long time family friends and have crushed on each other for most of their childhoods.
He's possessive, domineering & bossy. Really an all 'round ass. She knows how to tame him and make him human. But can he be what she needs especially when she's not even sure what that is.
This book is exceptional. For me its the ending. My heart melted at what he did for her and how it all came together is just magic. Hats off to this author! I don't give many 5 feather reviews. This one deserved it!
Made for each other 4 ½ stars. - The banter between Lake and Atlas was entertaining and shows their attraction to each other. They are not really strangers to each other as their families used to take vacations together when they were teenagers. However, they weren’t friends either. The romance has a good progression. Once they started sleeping together, the story got steamy. Once the conflict in the plot happened, their reconciliation didn’t happen right away. I like that Atlas has to work for it. It made it more realistic. Atlas and Lake are perfect for each other. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily chose to review it.
Arrogant Boss is the second book in the ‘A New York Night Series’ and tells the story of Atlas and Lake who have known each other since their teens.
The novel is well written and has a really great storyline with lots of twists and turns, obsession and insecurities and a plethora of steaming HOT sex scenes, all of which makes this a very easy to read page turner.
Overall, an extremely enjoyable read with a wonderful, satisfying HEA. Loved it and look forward to reading more in this series! The books in this series are complete standalones and can be read in any order.
I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Arrogant Boss is book about self love and self worth. I have seen so may reviews knocking this book and I personally enjoyed it. I loved the banter between Lake and Atlas. They both were broken souls that needed each other to be whole. Lake is a sassy young woman who survived a tragic accident. She has built walls around herself so she does not get hurt. Atlas is an arrogant man who lives his life his way without a care in the world. When their worlds collide their past traumas make an appearance. Question is can they get past it, or will the trauma win? I have read both books in this series and have enjoyed them both. I am looking forward to the next one!
Atlas was just what Lake needed. Arrogant, blunt, and definitely a ahole. He has a dirty mouth and uses it frequently. However he gives Lake the confidence she needs to look beyond her scare. The chemistry between the two is hot. They have known each other most of their lives. He has wanted Lake for a long time but she was with someone else. Now she is free and they start a friends with benefits relationship. I like the Atlas. He was very confident until it came to his love for Lake. Lake was insecure because of her scar and her ex fiancé, I loved how it didn’t matter to Atlas. The storyline was okay. With a little back forth the eventually get a HEA.
I totally loved this enemies to lovers romance. I so felt for Lake as she is such a sweetheart and is battling with heartbreak. Atlas is totally arrogant and egotistical. However, he is totally swoon-worthy as he is totally in love with Lake and treats her so well, and is such a romantic at heart. There is so much emotion in this novel, and I can’t help but to giggle at many of Atlas and Lake’s interactions. I found this book fun, sweet and totally enjoyable.
I received a free advanced reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my fair and honest review.
This is the 2nd book in this authors, New York Night Series about Atlas and Lake. I enjoyed the story. There’s a lot of push - pull. The breakup seemed predictable but on the whole the story was enjoyable and entertaining. Atlas is a delight and you can’t help but root for this couple. I loved how he cared for Lake - It reminded me a bit of another famous book I enjoyed. I love how Atlas loved Lake. Good story.

This is the 2nd book in this series, and this is Atlas and Lake’s story. Atlas is wealthy and arrogant, but to Lake, he is her boss, and her dad’s best friend’s son. Atlas is used to getting what he wants, and that is Lake, so he is relentless in his pursuit, but will he be able to convince her to take a chance on them? This is a well written story which is emotional, entertaining, and with insecurities, twists, and love, which leads to a sweet page turner. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lake was in an accident, which left a horrible scar on her face. That increases all of her insecurities, off course. Atlas knew her before the accident, when she was still with another man. But after the accident, all he could see was her true beauty, he didn’t mind the scar at all. What starts as a friends with benefits thing, could turn into more. If she can get over her insecurities… I enjoyed this book. There are some twists and turns, and the insecurities is a major part of the book. But it brings out the best in Atlas, and who wouldn’t want that.
