Holly Wright has been dreaming of the same man for years—and frankly, he might be the reason she’s still single; no one can compare to the hot-bodied man of her dreams. Second only to her secret devotion to her fantasy guy is her love of Scotland. She’s on her third trip now, with a fairly tight schedule, wanting to squeeze as much as she can into the next ten days. Falling through time and being forced to wed are not on her itinerary!
Duncan MacQuillan has been reared to lead by example. Thus, he has no qualms about arranging a marriage between himself and his enemy’s daughter if it will achieve peace in the Highlands. While he is stirred by the beauty of his bride as she appears at the altar, he is provoked by some wispy memory of her that says she is not quite who she pretends to be.
Holly is beyond stunned to find that her intended groom is the very man from her fantasies, but she has no plans to speak her astounding time-traveling truth to him lest he leave her at the altar. He’s impossibly fierce and more than a little intimidating but she believes him safer than the creeps pawning her off as their daughter and sister.
When Duncan begins to believe a great deceit was perpetrated on their wedding day, he holds Holly accountable for the actions of his enemy, rejecting the unwanted and uncontrollable fascination with his new bride. Soon, he will be forced to choose between a love destined by time and the peace he’s fought for years to accomplish.
Another good installment to this series and overall I enjoyed the storyline and characters. I just felt let down with this books ending. It’s like a certain word count was achieved and the author just said, “okay, the end” leaving the MCs sort of in a void while already introducing a new time traveler. Don’t get me started on the lack of an epilogue.
I couldn’t even begin to understand what was going on or why it was going on. To bring someone back in time to pretend to be someone else…hunh? Also the writing was bad. The other books before this were ok solid reads but this… anyway DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Just like in the other books in this series we get beautifully descriptive prose and storytelling. It's third person POV but we know everything about what the MCs are thinking and feeling and how they vacillate between rational and emotional and back and forth. Holly is transported from the 21st century to 14th century Scotland and compelled by a witch to wed Duncan MacQuillan in order to get back home. Three couples from previous books in this series play a significant part in this story and it's really fun to see them again.
What I really liked were the supernatural parts of the story. I'm fascinated by these witches. They're like Greek Gods playing with the lives of mortals, and their foolish games are wreaking havoc all over the Highlands, in two different centuries, and across the Atlantic. These witches seem to have a series-long story arc of their own that is starting to come to a head and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.
This isn't a cliffhanger but there are hints at more to come. Ms. Ruger wrote that we will hear more from Duncan and Holly. That and the lead in to Graeme and Megan's story has me impatient for Book 5.
Well I liked the story, not as much as I did the third book in the series, still my favorite. There were a lot of errors in this one that just screamed at me. Hollys eyes were blue then once they were green, Gabby was talking then Gabby answered herself twice. Little things like that that annoy me. However I still enjoyed this storyline and how the characters all come together and recommend it to romance lovers every where. It’s quick and fun and I think those small errors carry very little weight when the story is fun.
a matter of trust How do you trust your enemy's daughter when you have married her for strategical reasons only. How do you tell the literal man of your dreams you come from a different time? How can a relationship work without trust and can mutual fascination develop into love and overcome all obstacles? I just love reading Rebecca's books, it's always a wonderful escape to a fascinating world. I received this book as a review copy.
Let me say up front, I have never been a fan of “time travel” books. I have read several and they were ok but not for me. Well I just finished reading the four books in this series and if time travel were possible I would believe that Rebecca Ruger had made the trip. All four of these take you back in time in such a way that you would believe it possible. I loved them. Well worth the read.
I've really enjoyed the fantasy of time travel in these books, maybe more so because I love Scotland and it's history. But this book also disappointed me in the ending. I'm hoping to read a bit more about Duncan and Holly in book #5. I'm not a lover of silly romance books and certainly not what is known as "bodice rippers", but there is just enough realism in Rebecca Ruger's writings to keep me interested and wanting to know what happens next. She knows how to keep her readers engaged.
Beyond Dreams: Far From Home: A Scottish Time Travel Romance, Book 4
Holly was transported to the past from the 21st century to 1303 for marriage. Her husband thinks she is a nut. She met three other ladies from the future but wanted to go home. The witch moved someone else instead.
I have come to love Rebecca Ruger's time travelers books. Her characters are so well defined you feel you'd know them instantly if you ran into them on the street. Her scenery transports you to Scotland and the old keeps. Only great authors have the talent to write such stories. Rebecca Ruger is that talented.😊
I did a review on book 3 and said it was my favorite so far but this one is just as good. I love that it has characters from the other books in it but don’t want to specify and give it away!
I am loving this series! Duncan and Holly are my favorite couple so far! I really did not want the story to end! Bringing the series time travelers together at the end was great! I cannot wait till book #5 comes out to read more of Holly and Duncan!
I loved this one too, Duncan has to be a favorite! What a great series this is turning into! Had to love Megan doubling up her fist! Can't wait to read their story!
I enjoyed the story there was a lot of action so much going on she did a good job with all characters love red mill and grame the cousin can't wait to see what happens to him hope you enjoy as much as I did on to the next😍😍😍😍😍
☆ FML timetravels to the Scotland of the past. ☆ Marriage with the literal Laird of her dreams. ☆ Insta-lust, fast-paced romance. ☆ We get to meet characters from previous novels - and then there's their mandatory end-of-the-novel meet & greet sesh.
My least favourite trope: he's a douchbag but he's so hot so she loves him. Bleh! And also the witch stole her from her time, forced her to pretend and marry some strange man and she's her only ally there!? Stockholm syndrome much?? All around?
This is another great story from Rebecca Ruger. I really loved the twist with a man of her dreams being the one she actually meets, however, not so pleasant in another century.
