Jest zdeterminowany, by wykryć prawdziwego złodzieja.
Melinda Metz grew up in San Jose, California. People sometimes ask if she knows the way there. She kinda does, but she has an off-kilter sense of direction, so to be confident of arriving, it's better to consult some kind of navigational device.
Her mother tried to teach her to read in kindergarten, but Melinda had no interest. She also had no interest in learning to write her name. (FYI, when Melinda was in kindergarten it was all about finger-painting, play time, and naps.) Eventually, she mastered both and even majored in English at San Jose State University.
After college, Melinda moved to Manhattan to seek her fortune, which involved learning to identify fruits and vegetables while working at a grocery store, making $2.73 working backstage for an off-off Broadway play (her part of the box-office profits), and editing books.
Melinda and the lovely and talented Laura J. Burns pretty much became unofficial writing partners when they were editors at the same company. They teamed up to brainstorm story ideas, and at some point their brains fused in some key places. Later they worked on the Roswell High book series, Laura developing and editing the series, Melinda writing.
That series led to Melinda and Laura, now an official writing team, writing two TV pilots, moving to L.A. to work on the Roswell TV show, and briefly living in Toronto while on the writing staff of 1-800-Missing. They both continue to write books, together and separately.
Laura and Melinda's new book, Sanctuary Bay, a YA thriller, is coming out in January 2016. It's set at an ultra-exclusive private school on an island. Once a student is accepted to the school, they must stay until graduation. No visits home, no contact with the outside world at all. Find out why in January!
The first four books in Melinda's new middle-grade mystery series,S.M.A.R.T.S., are out now. The books involve a group of kids in a makerspace club and they all have lots of science info. For all the cool geeks out there!
Melinda lives in Concord, NC with her dog, Scully (yes, she loves the woo-woo so much she named her dog after a kickass X-Files character). She has never regretted learning to read and write her name.
This is definitely not a cozy mystery. I enjoyed the cat MacGyver and his kittens very much. The rest of the story I found to be boring. There was alot of well this bad thing happened so all dating is bad, and everytime someone does something it's wrong and hurts someone. The only reason the thief was caught was because of the cat. #MacOnAHotTinRoof #NetGalley
Phew, I liked this one much more than the previous one. Mac, again, really put everybody on their feet at Storybook Court. Being the real MacGyver that he is. And, it, has, KITTENS! Which makes it instantly better. Hopefully, we'll get another story about Mac, really curious how the cat cafe turns out. Meow.
This is the 3rd in series of the story of the kleptomaniac cat MacGyver “Mac” the cat. These are pure catnip to cat lovers and adorable from start to finish. Mac is wonderful as a main charcter with a large personality that is always in trouble and has his paws in many situations that have the reader laughing out loud.
This time he has found some orphaned kittens and he raises them until they are old enough to be placed in new homes. The antics of the kittens with Mac are adorable and endearing to cat lovers. There is a new couple that gets together because of the kittens thanks to Mac and his matchmaking ! Mac also is concerned in this book about his human Jamie who is acting weird and doesn’t smell like herself.
Cat lovers will love returning to the world of Mac. I look forward to the next in series . Thank you to the publisher for the ARC. My review opinion is my own. I recommend this series for all who are owned by and adore cats ! Pure catnip for readers.!
Another charming story about a matchmaking cat burglar and the humans he takes care of. In this book, he also takes care of 4 kittens for extra cuteness!
I have four cats that I love dearly. Each with their own quirks and all with very different personalities. Needless to say, I was anxious to read Mac on a Hot Tin Roof by Melinda Metz.
MacGyver (the cat, not the guy) will tickle your funny bone and touch your heart. On the one paw a cat burglar, on the other a match-maker. His antics had me giggling out loud,
While out adventuring through Storybook Court, MacGyver discovers five tiny, abandoned kittens. He carries them, be by one to safety. Where he cleans and snuggles them all. He will have to find them good homes, but in the meantime, they are his responsibility. Caring for the adorable furballs will be much more difficult now that his owners have him on house arrest. Mac is determined to find out the identity of the real thief.
Gosh, this kitty has quite the to-do list. Care for the kittens, without getting caught, find them a home, catch a crook, and play matchmaker. Wow. But Mac manages to it all with style, grace, personality, and oh so much heart. If you enjoy books that are light, fast reads that provide a few hours of escape from our active, often hectic lives -- you'll love Mac.
Mac on a Hot Tin Roof... Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I love Tennessee Williams, I love everything about that man and have made it my lifelong goal to read his collected works along side Shakespeare’s collected works. Any book in reference to Shakespeare or Tennessee, I will find and I will read.
Often these books aren’t GREAT... they’re considered “between the chapters picks.” Which essentially declares these books as easy, light reads to help you make the transition from one heavy read to the next. Therefore, coming off the Stephen King “It” high, I decided to pick up this little book and give it a spin.
My initial thoughts while reading this book were “this crazy cat lady is attempting to make an adult Garfield book” and “she’s old enough to write a book but young enough to have ‘Valley Girl’ oozing out of these pages.” It felt like the language was brought down to a young adult novel.
Enough of the technicals, let’s get to the story: Mac is a cat. Mac is a cat with a preening, superior attitude and feels that “his human” has to cater to him every moment of every day. Within the first few pages the plot is established, within the first few pages I figured out where the author was going with this plot and accurately guessed everything (I’m assuming) was meant to be plot twists later on. The story itself seemed serendipitous to me, I could practically see the author sitting at her desk thinking “hmm, what bad thing can I have happen next that tops the other bad things that have already happened?” Continued that theory for the duration of the story.
I thought the idea of the story was cute, it wasn’t exactly creative considering it was a lot of references and spin-offs, but as I said earlier, it was pretty much the definition of a “between the chapters pick.”
This is a fun series where Mac, a cat, acts as a matchmaker and neighbourhood watch. This is the third Mac book I have read and enjoyed them all. They can be read as standalone stories, but there are references to previous books that would act as spoilers if you wanted to go back and read the previous books. In this story, Mac has his paws full. He came across a litter of abandoned kittens and he takes them in. He is also trying to find homes for them within the neighbourhood. As this is happening, there are also robberies happening and Mac is being blamed based on his previous exploits. No Mac book is complete without him sniffing out lonely souls and bringing them together so there is another match made as well.
These books are told from Mac's POV. They are fun and easy to read. With a bit of mystery, romance and community, this was an enjoyable read for me. This story has themes of community, friendship and pets. I am not a cat lover, but I do love stories about animals and this one fits the bill nicely. An enjoyable story to read on a summer day by the pool.
This is easily the pick of the litter in this three book series. It's really more of a 3.7 rather than a 4, but I'll give it credit for improvement over the others. It's a pretty standard romance, but this time enhanced by Mac's taking a litter of abandoned kittens under his wing-- er, paw. I noticed in the acknowledgements that the author thanked some folks with helping with cat psychology and behavior-- it showed. I had the feeling through the first two books that the author didn't know cats; he's concerned with finding humans a "pack mate," i.e. a mate. While cats are more social than dog lovers give them credit for, I still don't buy this cat setting up his people into packs, nor constantly referring to a dog as a bonehead-- to me, that's the way dog people see cats. Anyway, this one is cute and is a definite improvement over the others, hence the rating.
I haven't read any of the other books in this series or any thing else by Melinda Metz, and I can officially say now that I'm not interested. These just aren't my style. I didn't care at all about the human characters or what they were getting up to, but I will say that MacGyver (Mac for short) is a good kitty. The far and few between segments from his perspective are fun, but not enough to slog my way through everything else from those pesky humans.
This was a cute book but I wish it was more about Mac and the kittens and their mischievousness rather than Serena and Erik’s annoying “high school” romance. I found neither of them to be likeable characters, in fact, I found Erik super irritating and juvenile in his behaviors.
Well this was a silly little book and I don't know how it ended up in our bookshelf. Cute story with a cat and some romance, and apparently the 3rd one in a series, of which I probably won't read.

A sweet lighthearted read with a cat that will steal your heart.
MacGyver “Mac” the kleptomaniac match-making cat is back again. This time he has found some orphaned kittens and he raises them until they are old enough to be placed in new homes, which Mac hand chooses for each one. There is also a new couple that gets together because of the kittens, Serena and Erik. Meanwhile Mac tries to figure out why his person, Jamie, is acting weird and doesn’t smell like herself. There is also a thief loose at Storybook Court and all fingers start to point at Mac because of his past reputation.
This book had me hooked from the start just like the rest of the books in the series. Mac is such a cool cat. Even though he can be a bit mischievous, he always has good intentions. The author has a way of telling the story that it feels like you’re right there as the story plays out. This is the kind of book that would make a really cute tv show or movie.
This is actually the third book in a series and though it can be read on its own, I would strongly recommend starting at the beginning of the series so you get to know all of the characters better. Plus, you don’t want to miss out on any of Mac’s antics.
Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Mac on a Hot Tin Roof by Melinda Metz is a light romance which is partially narrated by MacGyver, the cat. He finds four kittens who need help and carries them to a shed where he brings them food and teaches them how to live as a cat. He also finds people for each of them to adopt. While doing so, he helps the helpless humans come to terms with their own lives so they can be hosts for the cats he is going to present them with; this usually means getting them together with mates to form families for his kittens. Actually when he is the narrator, the story, if light and make-belief, is enjoyable. However, to learn what the humans he is choosing to send his kittens to are like and why they are acceptable family members for his kittens, there are other parts of the story told mostly third person. Some of it is fine; some is just plain dreary. For Mac to solve problems, there have to be problems, and many of his humans really are in need of training. But getting Sassy, who becomes the official North Hollywood police station cat (his "owner" Erik doesn't complete his romance with Serena soon enough), Lox, who becomes Little Mac (Daniel, his owner, works at the former Yo Joe! coffee shop which becomes Yo Kitty, a cat café), Zoomie, who becomes Deoxys (his owner Marcus, Daniel's brother set up the café), and Bitter, who becomes Chewie Two (whose owner Charlie is finishing his unfair felon sentence before Kait the policewoman will consider him as a mate) settled in life is difficult. When he is finished, he returns to his home with Jamie, who just had a human-kitten of her own, and forgives her for trying to keep him in a cage to protest the little girl. All the characters, cat and human alike, find some sort of resolution to their problems by the Epilogue. But really who cares what happens to the spoiled humans? The good part of the novel is the cats. The humans are there for background. But it is a light, easy, mostly enjoyable read. MacGyver is a fun narrator with an interesting perspective on human behavior.
I have very mixed feelings about this book. First off, as with all three books, absolutely 5 stars for Mac and his thieving ways. And this book had the bonus of the kittens. In all three books, I enjoyed the storyline, so I appreciate Melinda Metz' imagination and writing. However, I had a very hard time getting past the crudeness of some of the imagery and innuendos. I know most people probably aren't bothered by it, but it's definitely not something I want to see in my reading material. The only reason I read the first book through was because I was already in love with Mac before it ever showed up. Just because it's a romantic storyline doesn't mean it has to be so inappropriate or downright degrading. The second book was better in this regard, that's why I continued, because sometimes the author realizes they went overboard and tones it down in later books. The second book wasn't nearly like the first. But this third probably topped them all. It made me sad, because like I said, I enjoy the storyline itself. The thing is, a cat who feels he needs to take care of humans since they clearly don't know how to take care of themselves, deciding which humans should be couples, and, in this book, raising up kittens to follow in his steps and trying to find the right humans worthy of his precious little ones, all of this feels to me like a perfect family comedy book. Something kids should be able to enjoy too, or families could read together. Perhaps I just have different ideals, but it's disappointing. Certainly something I'd be too embarrassed to recommend to anyone else, especially not something I would ever hope for younger readers. I myself won't read it again, no matter how much I enjoyed Mac and the rest of Storybook Court. And if this is how Melinda Metz likes to fill her books, then I won't read anything else of hers either. I feel like there was so much potential, it would have for sure been a series I would have bought and cherished, but now, well, like I said, just disappointment.
This was a cute read, but it just didn't hold my interest as much as I thought it would. I did like how parts of the story were told through Mac's eyes and when that was the case, the human characters "blah-blahed." I thought that was pretty funny and clever. But I didn't like the main characters and didn't feel a connection with them. Serena and Erik just felt bland to me and their story and romance was boring. About two thirds in, I decided to skim and read the rest just to get through it. The kittens and all their different personalities was interesting to read -- and that's that I am more of a dog person. Still, Mac taking care of the kittens was a cute aspect of the book. I really enjoyed Charlie's character and the relationship that began to develop between him and Kait. Charlie was a very minor character, though, and I wish he had been one of the main characters. He and Kait had some conversations about comics and SpiderMan -- another interesting side element of the book. Overall, I found it to be boring with the exception of Mac and his care of the kittens he found, as well as Charlie and Kait's relationship that really didn't amount to much. Maybe one of the next books in this series can focus on Charlie and Kait as the main characters. I would recommend as a quick read for people who like cats and kittens, but other than that -- it fell somewhat flat for me.
MAC ON A HOT TIN ROOF brings us another adventure of a definite kleptomaniac cat by the name of MacGyver, or affectionally, exasperatedly also known as Mac. This time around, aside from tracking down another thief in the neighborhood and matchmaking his little kitty heart out, Mac has found a litter of abandoned, orphaned kittens in rough shape and now adds foster cat rescuer to his long list of abilities.
This unique cat has his work cut out for him as he evades capture by detectives who think he’s up to his old tricks (he’s not) and finding the perfect home for his little charges – and why not mix some matchmaking in with the search for the purr-fect home as well.
I had fun with Mac, Jamie, and David once again. MAC ON A HOT TIN ROOF is a charming Cozy Mystery that will please any cat lover, for we all know that cats are unique in their personalities, and is simply an overall good read. This story could stand on its own, but the rest of the earlier books are charming as well so feel free to indulge yourself from the very beginning to see how Mac got his start.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Mac, Jamie and David’s cat, is reputed to be a cat burglar and a matchmaker. In this adventure Mac adds the title of foster cat to his resume. On a meander about the neighborhood, Mac finds an abandoned litter of kittens in bad shape. He immediately rescues them, toting them one by one to a secure shed where he secures them while he searches for food.
After feeding and cleaning the little ones he sets out to interview humans in the area, his plan is to find suitable homes for his little ones when they are old enough for adoption. Mac is also struggling with his perception that his human, Jamie is changing, and he doesn’t know what’s going on.
Melinda Metz skillfully crafts the character of Mac – the story from his perspective is both believable and charming. While the novel involves human characters, the sections relating to Mac and his exploits are the most enjoyable and entertaining.
I wanted to like this more than I did. Mac is a great cat, and when the story is from Mac's POV, it works well. But when the narrative switches from Mac to people, particularly Erik, it's quite jarring since it goes from cute kitty to sexual exploits at times.
Mac finds a litter of kittens and adopts them, focusing on finding them homes. Meanwhile, two police officers, Erik and Kait, are assigned beats in a neighborhood where Erik has history - his ex used to live there. He meets Serena on his first day and is enamored with her until he learns she lives in the same house his ex lived in. Serena lives there as a recipient of an arts award, the same reason Erik's ex lived there. The neighborhood is considered completely safe - neighbors leave their doors unlocked - until expensive (and ugly) items begin to disappear. Now Erik and Kait must solve the thefts. Mac, a known "cat" burglar, is the top suspect.
This was a cute story but overall a bit of a boring read. It was a split POV with maybe 4 characters serving as the narrator. One of them being the cat Mac. His sections were adorable! They were my favorite part of the book, and I loved all the funny ways the author wrote from the cats perspective. The main male character Erik was emotionally immature. He had one heartbreak and then assumed all women were like his ex which got very annoying.
The main female Serena was pleasant. She was passionate but realistic and I thought she was well written. Her story tried to prove the point that you don’t always have to follow the glitzy crazy dreams and you can just do what you want with your life. And Erik’s did too with him choosing to stay a beat cop over interviewing for detective.
I’d recommend this book for a cat lover just so they could spice up their tbr and read something that has a cat’s perspective on things.

However, she falsely advertised. Do not get this for your kids. Number one, this book makes it look like and sound like this cute little cat story (Which I was expecting), but it's mainly about the human characters. It's really weird. And the male character, is constantly checking out the main girl character, one of the sentences were about like her toe (With one little crumb of nail polish) and how he wanted to lick her toe and suck on it. Strange, right?
And at some point while the main girl character is rehearsing, she falls out of the tree on top of him and they start freaking making out.
And not to mention, every five chapters of humans, there's this itty bitty microscopic chapter of the cat, and to be honest, I'd rather read about a cat than some sexual relationship between a cop and an actress. Sorry, but no thanks.
My full opinion about this book? DISAPPOINTING. TERRIBLE. NOT KID FRIENDLY.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC.
I fell in love with the character of Mac the cat in, “The secret life of Mac”, and fell just a bit harder when he adopted a litter of kittens and began teaching them all they needed to know to be a cat in this book. All while solving the problems of the humans who most need his help in Storybook Court, of course, as only Mac can; whether it be in matters of the heart or working out who will be graced with one of ‘his’ kittens.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Mac and his friends from Storybook Court yet, then I suggest that you get all of the books in the series, settle down comfortably and get familiar with Mac’s delightful cat wisdom and perspective on life.
With ‘cattitude’ aplenty there is plenty to ‘amewse’ you in this well written, fun series.
I admit up front to being a fan of this totally implausible series about Mac the cat. He's one dynamic kitty- he's been a thief, he's a matchmaker, and he's entirely sensitive to both human and animal feelings. This time out, he discovers five orphaned kittens and cares for them. He also finds the right humans to adopt them (love this part). At the same time, he's worried about his person Jamie because things don't seem right with her AND about the fact that someone is swiping stuff in the neighborhood again. This last, however, leads to his happy place. At least, Mac is a matchmaker- of people and cats and of people and people. There's not a lot to this, which is fine by me, and don't worry if you haven't read the earlier books- it's fine as a standalone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Fans will be pleased with how things turn out.
