Belle: The Continued Tale of Ebenezer Scrooge

Rate this book
After that first remarkable Christmas Day that Charles Dickens himself would call A Christmas Carol, an entire year had passed for Ebenezer Scrooge. A new Christmas Eve had now come, only to draw swiftly to an end with what was about to continue that Christmas tale of old. It was the unfinished business of making things right that moved Scrooge now, with the most pressing issue on his mind stemming from his greatest loss of all-his beautiful Belle!
If only he had the chance to act with his present knowledge back in that time when choices mattered, he would surely fix things. He would have his Belle now, and forever more! But it was far too late for that, especially for one like Ebenezer Scrooge!
Or was it?

The author is a close and dear friend for whom I have boundless admiration. This book is so obviously a labor of love and faith. Benson's convictions of the transformative power of faith in Jesus Christ shine on every page. He has taught so many over the years, including me, and this book continues tha tradition of teaching and sharing with everyone he meets.

I want to be careful when giving only 1 star to a book and not trash it--it takes a lot to write a book and put it out in the world for people to read and review, but this story really didn't do it for me.

The storyline wasn't always as clear as I believe it should have been, and while the author chose to try to keep the reader feeling like the writing could have been rather similar to Dickens, it simply didn't work. It felt like he took too many liberties with what he thought the new story should include (regarding the true meaning of Christmas, etc), what the characters would think and say- and it unfortunately made it feel less than an authentic story for me. It is hard to write a book following such a classic story.

This book was recommended as a group book choice for women's church book club as the December 2023 read. Appropriate for the coming season. I did not like this book very much. It had a very good spiritual message, but the story was rather slow and it was tiring to go back and forth as Ebenezer and Jacob Marley tried to reinvent the past and change their fates. Charles Dickens did a much better job and I enjoy reading that. This was tedious. I found multiple spelling errors.
Not a keeper on my shelf.

I felt I was back in old England in Dickens time. This author stayed true to the style of the first Christmas Carol written by Dickens only this time we get to know Scrooge better. The twists and turns were full of surprises and the ending left me totally in the true spirit of Christmas.

No, Not For Me!

Sorry! I tried! I just could not like this book. The author tried too hard to write like Dickens. It just doesn’t work. I though the story was silly
