We must unite our rival packs. Our child’s future depends on it…
If only falling for Night, the alpha of our rival pack, was the least of my problems.
Now Troy, the fallen alpha of my old pack, has escaped from prison, and Night wants to hunt down.
If we’re going to have a chance of uniting the King and Warg packs, we need to stop the violence. But if Night and I can’t agree, I can't help but wonder what hope there is for us.
When I discover that I’m pregnant with Night’s child, the timing couldn’t be worse. Troy is still on the loose and Night has uncovered sinister activity within my pack.
The only way for our family to be safe and have a life together is for him to succeed in the Alpha Challenge.
If Night wins, he’ll rule over both packs and our future will be secured. But if he loses, he may not live to see his child…
The story line is okay, but some of the writing is just, well....I wonder if the author was drunk at times and forgot what they were writing and the characters personalities. Everything takes place in a relatively short time frame. 5 weeks. Everything in book 1 to book 2 starts out as spring, and it's only 5 weeks that the fmc is with Night and the Wargs pack before Troy rekidnaps her and takes her back to the Kings pack and holds her for a week. Yet, the author had it as fall again. I guess summer doesn't exist in this story. In book 1 she is supposedly human to her old pack. Yet when Troy kidnaps her he automatically knows things he shouldn't that shouldn't have even been revealed ro him until later. Even when the author had in the blurb that he didn't know. Yet, he already did. He shouldn't have known that she wasn't claimed, as far as he should have thought was that she was a human and no longer a virgin. Simple. Not a wold who met her mate and hadn't been claimed with his bite yet. Yet he magically knew. A lot of gaps in the writing and story. Like Troy and Nights father Gregor was alpha of the Wargs pack and abandoned his true mate and Night to become alpha of the Kings pack. Um, why not be alpha of both packs and join them and be more powerful? He could have. A lot of missing information like how Gregor became alpha of the Kings pack to begin with. And yeah Troy is a POS and Night is a good leader. Bryn is a bit naive and soft. Too soft to be an alpha or a leader. A leader has to put their pack and family first no matter what. Do what is necessary to protect them. She is all oh I can't kill or harm anyone blah blah blah. Granted she was raised to believe she was human, but when you corner a wolf or anyone you fight to live regardless of morales. Love is stronger. I don't think I will bother with the 3rd book. I Can already guess how it will end and the fact that Bryn is a weak interim Alpha who can't seem to have a back bone. She will be ran all over by the Kings elites. Which frankly is a dumb concept in of itself. If the Elites truly rule the pack why have an alpha to begin with? No one is above the alpha in a pack. Idk the concept is just dumb to me. And Troy has talked about nothing but r****g Bryn and using her as a sex slave, yet when he held her for a week he didn't do anything but starve and beat her and threaten her. Yet they took Vita and I can guess with the threats to r**e her that that's exactly what they did to her without having to be told. She ended up broken and withdrawn after being alone with Samson and Haldon and another wolf. Along with being beaten, starved and tortured she was assaulted. Kind of messed up the author did it to one and not the other. With how psychotic and far gone Troy was with his personality it would have been the first thing he did to Bryn. Idk, the concept and behaviors just don't match with what the author was portraying. We already know the Kings wolves were rapists, murderers and sexist a**holes. They have a long history of that. Yet Troy was able to hold back with Bryn? And no answer to as why he was so obsessed with a supposed mere human girl to begin with. I like Night as a character, Bryn idk she hasn't really won me over. Not sure I want to bother with the third book. So I'm my opinion, skip this trilogy you aren't missing anything.
Going to keep this book as a four at the moment may change my mind.
Bryn really took a step back for me. In my opinion, we continue to see her weaken. She makes a lot of decisions that affect the pack. The effect is extreme in my opinion.
Night is a strong character. He definitely saves this book for me. As well as the secondary characters. Very strong side, characters, and side stories. Definitely the main reason. I will keep this at a four.
1.5 stars because there was a marginal amount of entertainment value. DNF around 60%, and skimmed most of the book.
There seemed to be almost no plot, and the opportunities the author had to make the book more interesting were totally overlooked.
For example, when she’s being held captive by Troy she does everything she can to anger him. Why? Her and Tavi talk about how they need to try to get out, and the very obvious answer to me is that she could have emotionally manipulated Troy into loosening her shackles, making him believe she’s sympathetic to him or something. But no, she yells at him, knowing it’ll set him off and make him hit her. Just so annoying and obvious… why not let our character have a little bit of cunning and brains?
Also, the argument her and Night have over what to do with Troy was the last straw for me. I hate hate hate the “I won’t be a killer like him!” Trope in stories when these people are literally living in a society where killing is the norm. She grew up in this culture. She knows that killing Troy is the best choice, but noooo. Also, don’t get me started on how she’s the alpha.
And then in the same conversation Night asks if it’s really a good idea to leave Troy’s goons free, to which she replies she won’t lock them up until they do something illegal because she’s not a tyrant. What? How about kidnapping her, beating her, raping (heavily implied) Tavi? Killing the people in their pack for no real reason? Destroying property? None of these things are crimes?
And this is when I had to DNF.
Also, I did skim a lot but I don’t remember a single time when the two MCs discussed the fact that their dreams were mutually shared? Seems like an oversight or the convo was super short and I missed it.
"Oh, no! I'm pregnant! How could this have happened??" -- Well, you guys have been fucking like rabbits since you lost your cherry, so yeah...guess they don't teach sex ed in wolf school.
"I'm only Alpha for a month because women can't be Alphas, but I'm going to straighten everything out with the pack by the end of my tenure." -- Sure, hon. Sure.
"I can't kill my enemies. That would just harsh my vibe. What's that? The most dangerous enemy to me, my pack, and my mate's pack has escaped? Oops, my bad." -- Just fuck off already.
I gave up when they started talking about portals to other realms with other shifters. I just couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to see where this trainwreck was going, but I am saving my brain cells by stopping at the halfway mark. I do not condone burning books, but if this one caught on fire...I'd walk away.
Book 2 brought a lot of surprises with it. New characters were introduced. Flawless segue from book one to book 2.
Author does a great job of continuing to draw you into the characters in the world she has built. My only catch is that I am finding Bryn to become a bit predictable. There are times when the FMC find her “mate” it’s almost like they become dependable very quickly and in capable of making intelligent decisions. This hasn’t run rampant at this point… And I hope it does not continue and book 3.
I couldn't do it anymore. Tooooo much detail! Long winded. Boring. Sexist. Idk, I just didn't want to wait any longer to see who the new alpha was going to be. This would have been so much better as ONE book.
Bryn Hunter had been continually harassed and abused by Troy Redwolf when she had been unlucky enough to be in his pack. When Bryn is kidnapped by an attacking pack, it was the best thing that could have happened to her. She learns about love and acceptance, being part of a wonderful pack, and she is happy to be with Alpha Night Shepherd.
Troy tracks her down and steals her back by dishonorably breaking the agreement he had with Night. Bryn awakens in a cave, hands and ankles bound. Troy has plans to torture Bryn and destroy Night’s pack. He also had planned on claiming her, but she is already mated to Night. Will that throw him into a rage when he is thwarted like that? And what will happen if he discovers her other secret? Can she use that secret to escape him?
And much like with the first book, I just kept putting it down. Though merciful with its accuracy on the total number of pages, as you likely know the first book was more than double what it portrayed, it still just seemed excessively long for the amount of character building and plot progression we received. I don't hate the storyline, which is ultimately what drove me to go ahead and read this book. I feel I have accurately predicted what is to come, only one particular thread of this story compels me to continue, and I worry that it will be the most glossed over parts of the next installation. Just as book 1 felt like it drags and drags to get to the next plot conflict just to rush through and gloss over what should be key moments explored in depth, this entire book prepares you for the final challenge just for the entirety of said challenge to literally take place in the span of half of the final chapter. Just went whoosh and it was done with. Like really? That's it?! Wtf was all that lead up and prep even for? Seriously disappointed with the way the composition of this story fails in so many ways. I don't have any higher hopes for the 3rd book in this series but heck, now that I went and read this one, I might as well see where it all ends up. Even though ultimately, I wish I'd found a different series to read this week.
Having become the interim Alpha for the Kings Pack Bryn is feeling the weight of responsibility. Despite their mating bond there is tension & secrets between her & Night. His being Alpha of the Warg's pack is cause for some opposition between them as their ideas on how to rule & unite the two packs differ. Then you have the dislike, fear & mistrust of both packs towards the other & it makes for a hostile & dangerous environment especially with Troy having escaped from his prison cell. Whilst they should be planning & looking forward to their future they are looking over their shoulders waiting for Troy to launch an attack & whilst going through the Kings paperwork they discover some sinister happenings from a decade ago that leave them with even more unanswered questions & concerns. Still they work hard at trying to help the Kings repair the damage caused by the two previous Alphas & try to earn respect & gain trust from the pack members that are willing to give them a chance. Really enjoying the series though at times I wish Bryn would harden her gentle heart a little. She has proven she's brave & can be strong when needed but her gentle nature can make her weak & easy to take advantage of. I love the dinamic of Tavi as Bryn's Beta with the obvious attraction between Tavi & Night's best friend & Beta Dom. The relationship between all four of them is lovely.
I have to say that I really appreciate the way author Lindsey Devin tells her stories. The plot and the storyline are a pretty slow burn which allow for amazing character development and world building. I still can't get over the heart melting scene in the kitchen between Night and Bryn. Beautiful.
At this point the spice is spice. Night and Bryn love each other, continually profess their love for each and can't keep their hands off of each other. The nice thing is they have a very healthy relationship that is not without it's problems but they are emotionally mature enough to figure it out.
The violence is more toned down in this book since both packs are sort of in a recovery period after the attack by feral wolves and the escape of Troy from the holding cells. I'm sure it will ramp up in subsequent books since it seems like a showdown between Troy and Night, Lance and Night and probably characters we don't even know yet and Night (plus Bryn, Tavi and Dom) will likely happen.
I'm definitely interested to see where this is going. Do I hope that Bryn steps up and shatters that glass ceiling of pack patriarchy? Yes I do and with the love and support of her mate Night.
This book picks up where Book 2 left off. Our FMC, Bryn, is now temporary alpha of the King's Pack. Even with the suspension of disbelief required to enjoy paranormal romance books, this one kinda stretched credulity. I can't see the pack accepting her as alpha just because she was lucky enough to "win" the alpha challenge that her mate was fighting. Sure, there were a lot of folks in the pack that resisted her leadership - but I just had a very hard time finding it believable.
I'm really not sure what the author was going for here with Bryn's character. I thought maybe day by day she'd be stronger but throughout the entire book, I felt she came across as a weak leader. Even when Night, her mate and alpha of the Warg pack, would try and counsel her, she ignored his advice and would womansplain why he was wrong and she was right.
In any event, the story progresses at a pretty slow pace throughout this book, although steam level is higher here. There were a few plot twists, some I saw coming, some not so much. But it wasn't enough to make this an exciting story to read. That is the reason for my 3 star rating . . . I didn't hate the book, but I didn't love it either. I wouldn't tell someone not to read it, but I also wouldn't give it a hearty endorsement either. But yes, I'm still going to read the next book, so I can finish out the series.
So much potential! The storyline is great, the characters great, it has everything a good book should have. However it is let down by rookie errors.
The first book was engaging, exciting, full of action and lust. It was a great introduction to the packs in the Idaho panhandle. However there were some minor plot errors and grammatical issues. All of these could be over looked in book one considering how good the storyline actually is. However from book two onwards it becomes too much to ignore. Repetitive inner monologues, plot holes and complete scenes redone like the first one never happened. The FMC becomes a bit too dramatic with needing honesty IMO. Questions left unanswered and some things that get caught up in so much monologue it’s like the characters forget what they are thinking. Such a shame because this storyline could have been amazing!!! Definitely needs a beta reader and editor to go over it.
Worth a read because the actual story is good.
It could have easily been done in two books, leaving the author time to maybe follow up with a book on Tavi and Dom, or even Lance. Definitely would have wanted their stories told.
This book is slow at a lot of parts but still interesting enough to have me wanting to finish the trilogy.
We enter into the scene where the previous book left off, in the jail where they discovered Troy has escaped. In the midst of trying to track him down, more secrets are discovered while going through the ledgers.
There is a surprise blood relation revealed that caught me by surprise because I thought the relation was between different characters.
We also begin to see more of a suspicious character, Lance. Exactly what is his deal? While I have theories on his purpose, I am still on the fence of whether he is good or bad for our MCs' lives.
I still am left with questions that I hope are addressed in the final book and those I know will be addressed.....
What is the destiny that Bryn and Night are to fulfill?
Will Tavi overcome her trauma from captivity so that she can get her HEA with Dom.
What struggles will Bryn and anight face now thatvhebhas claimed his rightful spot as Alpha?
So, the last book, I can't believe the author made everyone so stupid gullible that they can't figure out even Bryn when she was in the cave that Tavi was obviously r@ped. There was also a written error when Bryn was going to the ritual she was going to Violets cabin only to go into the Elders cabin. Bryn, with her non-violence, looks again like an idiot not killing Troy and the way she childishly went on finding out Night had sent a kill order, not capture like she asked everyone. She's not the Alpha of Wargs pack. Night is his obligation to his pack in this instance. Then, at the same time, Jasper says Troy went on a spree, killing all children and women too of a new pack and what she wants him in prison not killed. Gee, this was frustratingly stupid and embarrassing. This series has been a great steamy read and lots of secret children missing in the forest and missing pack money 💰 action drama. I like all characters, but Bryn is too nieve a character to read. It's a steamy hot series multiple povs, but I will be glad not to read another Bryn character by this author.
The first book in this series was so very good; this one, not so much. Bryn is incredibly foolish: refused older wiser counsel in favor of being idealistic; couldn't figure out what happened to her friend; and couldn't figure out what was wrong with herself, to name a few idiocies. Everyone is suddenly behaving like pregnancy equates to helplessness, and the strong and intelligent female characters are...diminished. There's less tension from danger but more from relationship drama.
The villains are still at large, and there's a questionable addition named Liam to add interest to the story. The potential for treachery from both councils is intriguing. More unanswered questions remain to tease the reader: Where is the author going with the whole alternate universe/portal thing? What is Bryn's big purpose? What is the reason for the gynecological issue? Will Tavi get justice and her HEA? What other secrets will be exposed? All of these are luring this reader to finish the series despite the lackluster showing of this recent book.
Claiming the pack by Lindsey Devin is the third installment of the Mated To The Night series.
I seriously loved this book and devoured it all in one sitting! Its a fun and fast read. I do reccommend reading the first two book in this series to get a feel for who the characters are and their stories.
In this book, you find that Bryn is the Interim Alpha of the Kings and Night, her mate, is fighting in the Alpha Challenge to become the new Alpha. Bryn also finds out she is pregnant, and she feels the timing is bad because Troy, the villian of the series, has escaped prison and is on the run with an army of feral wolves.
I have so many unanswered questions, and I'm hoping for a fourth book, because the ending of this one did not tie up any of the loose ends I was hoping it would.
All in all its a great read and I highly reccomend it to others who like to read shifter romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Bryn is quite literally the most annoying FMC. She just can’t get it together. Making comments like “we’ll be good parents and won’t let our child roam around” right after talking with the “bad” parents was ridiculously insensitive and cruel. Everyone that Troy has killed since he broke out of prison should be on Bryn’s conscious, but she’s just floating around the compound acting like she’s the best thing to ever happen to either pack. If she would just stop and listen to the ACTUAL ALPHA in this book, so many lives would’ve been saved. The way she practically ignored what happened to Tavi the entire book was shameful. It was clear Tavi experienced SA and again Bryn is focused on herself.
Dom, Tavi, Night, both mom and even Lance are solid characters so far. I’ll keep reading because of them.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was good. The only thing I didn’t really like about it was that as soon as people found out that Bryn was pregnant. They treated her like she was made of glass, and didn’t want her to do much of anything I also didn’t like the fact that every time there was a problem between her and night in this book, they seem to blame it on the fact that she was pregnant and they didn’t want to do anything because of the baby. Bryn and Night are still trying to figure out how to be a couple and tell each other things instead of hiding stuff. I hope the next book in the series is a little bit better when it comes to not blaming everything on the baby or the fact that Brynn is pregnant and they want to treat her like glass.
I ended up skipping through a lot of the repetitive spicy scenes and some of the back and forth banter as well. The first two books were great, I read them straight through. This one is okay, -though I haven't finished it, i felt the need to write a review. I stopped reading and switched to another series because of the drama caused by the MFC. Her reasoning for some of her actions gave me a headache. TBF, if she was real, I'd have to grab her by her shoulders and shake her while asking if she's really that naive because good lord she's a lot sometimes. Once I finish this book, i will come back here to edit my review if my feelings about it change, which I hope they do because I have such high hopes for this series and the characters.
So part two of this series was pretty good. It’s a little annoying occasionally when every chapter they go back and forth on who is telling the story Bryne or Night. These wolves don’t have a lot of the abilities or same characteristics that most wolves have on these books, so I find myself from time to time in my head questioning why didn’t so and so just do this or that…? Anyway, overall it is a good book and was a good continuation from book one. I would have liked to see more of the Wargs pack involved in the story. I do not like having a council that basically over rules the Alpha. I don’t mind elders there for wisdom but they shouldn’t be able to make rules and question the alpha. And no Luna is just weird.
The storyline continues with everyone wants to control the kings pack (even the elders) but it's only been ruled by evil men. I thought why couldn't she be alpha lupa? She won the fight it's her pack until a challenge.hate the elders they all need replacing. As for the rape victim we knew it happened troy told them to go and rape her some friend she is to focused on her and she don't even lock them up? There is soft hearted and stupid.
Is lance a wolf? I think he can read minds? Is he a relation to are leading lady? I wonder if doms dad is still alive? Just gone feral wolf? Or lance works for him and watching over her?
I guess this isn't quite enough back story to keep me interested. Its not a horrible story but it just seems to barely make progress. I can definitely end it now and not feel like I am gonna miss anything. In essence in this story she's the alpha, they discover missing children, a mystery account, and she learns who her parents are.... Oh and Night wins the challenge and becomes the Alpha of both packs. There are a few mysteries like Lance, and what's going on with Troy, the mysterious account, and missing kids but its not Quite enough to draw me into the next story....
XXX! Adult content, reader discretion advised. In a legal battle each side goes through the discovery process. The process of gathering facts and information about the opposing side. This book is primarily discovery, with a battle at the end. The discovery process in this book is important because it is building the final bit of foundation for the finally. What Bryn learns about her mother is game changing. Lots of ahas that clears so much up in this book. Night still needs more information about a kids legend (Lance, probably), who kidnapped the kids (Lance, probably), a mysterious bank account and who is still in league with Troy (too many to name).
I’m going to say this book is maturity. This book is where it’s not all happy and easy and simple. Life is hard. And throw some curve balls in there and now it’s complicated too. Bryn and Night are both figuring out how to move together and still maneuver with their packs wishes. Oh Tavi….. my heart hurts so much for her. Dom…. Well, I have nothing but love for him and it’s a whole lot more in this book than before, for multiple reasons. This book is quite amazing for so many reasons. I’m so ready to see what book 4 will have in store for the ending!
Overall I liked this story, mainly due to the continuation of the overall 'Mated to the Night' story and the development of existing character relationships. The introduction of new mysteries and the addition of some new characters, including Lance, was also good. This book was a big improvement on the second book of the series (where it felt like most of the characters acted completely out of sorts, and there seemed to be a general lack of editing or fact-checking), but I wish it was as strong as the first story of the series.
The mothers Glenda and violet were my favorites, they were able to tell them to get over themselves. Your relationship has growing pains, learn to communicate better! While reading, though, I figured doms father was her father too. It had drama, mystery, suspense, intrigue, and, of course sex. The poor kid (Samuel) traumatized when he was a small child. I wonder if he was witness to one of those portals Gregor was obsessed with in the past. On to the next book....
