Spring is in the air, and not one but two unexpected visitors arrive at the Moon River Boarding House, each causing their own form of chaos. When murder is added into the mix, Anna St. James finds herself spinning in every direction. Frostfall Island’s newest resident and bakery owner has stirred up no small amount of trouble. So, when the talented pastry chef is found dead in his bakery, Anna has to gather up a list of suspects, and it’s no small task. For this case, she’s even had to add a few of her good friends to her investigative corkboard. One thing Anna knows for sure, she needs to find the killer before the ridiculous local detective once again arrests the wrong person.
I absolutely loved this newest installment in the Frostfall series! I am really intrigued by the “historical mystery” subplot and look forward to how it will play out! London just keeps adding little nuggets to that mystery that is making it even more intense. Of course, I’m enjoying all the regular quirky characters, but am loving that we’re getting some new additions to the islanders to hopefully get to know better over the series. This murder investigation kept me guessing the whole time and was exciting til the end!
Oh gosh, I just love Anna and Nate! Another fun story from a London Lovett. There was more layers peeled away in the mystery of Anna’s missing husband, which had me intrigued. I’m looking forward to the next book!
"Bakery Bump Off" is a stellar addition to the Frostfall Island Cozy Mystery Series. This installment provides us with a deeper look into the personal lives of our favorite character, Anna St. James. This time Anna's mother, Rhonda St. James, comes to the island to visit with her daughters. It is very clear who the golden child is in the family because Rhonda dotes on Cora because of her beauty and she clearly has her sights on getting her married once again to some wealthy man. If she marries well, then dear old mom's lifestyle increases.
If a visit from her mother isn't enough, Nate informs Anna that one his former law enforcement colleagues and good friend is coming to visit for a few days. This brings a little tension since this friend has recently accepted a position with the FBI, something that Nate once aspired to do. Is he having doubts about living on the island or his career change? Is her considering moving off the island and leaving Anna behind? Only time will tell.
Meanwhile, there is a new French bakery in town that is causing quite the stir. The Owner, Quentin Oxley has people lined up out the doors to each his delicious pastries and breads. One of the problems is this has caused business for the local cafe owners to dwindle. In addition, Quentin is also running around antagonizing and threatening various residents for one reason or another. He is hostile, arrogant and condescending. When he is later found murdered, there are a bevy of suspects that will need to be investigated and it they wait on the twat of a detective, Norwich, will arrest the entire town with his incompetency.
This was a fun read because of family dynamics and murder and mayhem. Usually, I can pretty well figure out who the killer is but not this time. I did have fun on the merry chase. Also, with Anna riding around on her bike, it was reminiscent of Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote. If you haven't put this series on your "to read" list you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to have fun!
Frostfall Island is a nice place to live. The people might be a little "different" at times, but they're all friendly, for the most part. That is, until Quentin Oxley came to the island and opened a French bakery; it seemed that everyone on the entire island was waiting in line to buy his French wares. That was causing some heartache for some of the island businesses, like the tea shop where Cora works - if business gets any slower, the tea shop will have to close down. And Mr. Oxley has been threatening other townspeople that he'll go to his "important" friends with complaints and have them shut down, and then there's another guy who just lost his girlfriend to Oxley. And there's the guy who is accusing Oxley of stealing a priceless heirloom from his family. And there's Anna, who gave Oxley a hefty piece of her mind for his behavior since arriving on the island. This guy is an arrogant jerk and so very unlikable. It comes as no big surprise when someone finally gives Oxley his just desserts, and Anna is again called upon to solve the case before the numbskull detective from the mainland arrests the first person he interrogates. While Anna is working feverishly to solve a murder, she has to contend with her mother, (who never fails to irritate "Annie-poo"), her feelings for Nick, (who may be having second thoughts about staying on the island), and who IS that crabby woman pictured in her wedding album? I enjoyed reading this latest Frostfall Island mystery, and I'll be watching for the next one.
YES! We're back on the island and Anna is right in the middle of things again. Which is to say, she's juggling running the boarding house and dealing with a few extra guests. One of whom is her mom and WOW that lady is painfully clueless about how she hurts her daughter, isn't she?
Oh, and there's also a little case of murder for Anna to unravel. Seeing as how the victim has caused more than a few disruptions to island life in the short time he's had his bakery open, Anna has a long suspect list and a lot of investigating to do. She's also in the unfortunate position of making sure several of her good friends didn't have anything to do with the death.
Some low-key family drama, a little worry about her new honey, a whole lot of suspects, and a lady who is determined to figure out who did the deed. GOOD STUFF!
Excellent story as usual. Really enjoyed the new charactors in the story. The regular charactors are coming along great, developing more with each story. The mystery around Michael is very intreging, i look forward to finding out more about it in the coming sories. Who is the mystery woman? What does she have to do with Anna and Michael? Love the way the romance in heating up between Anna and Nate. will he stay on the island? What is in store for them and what about Cora, is she ever going to find another rich man to marry? Can't wait for the next installment for Frostfall Island. Keep up the Great work London. Loving your writing.
Will our intrepid volunteer detective be able to prevent a miscarriage of justice? A French trained baker, a seafood restaurant, a lovely tea room and the quirky residents of the small island are beautifully mixed up to paint the perfect picture of life in a small town. And, don’t forget an antique sourdough starter!
Cozy little murder story however was a little bit disappointed the murder didn’t actually happen till after 2/3rds of the book was already done. Was also hoping for a more intricate mystery or plot twist.
An obnoxious baker is murdered and Anna, once again, has to solve the crime. Most of the suspects are residents of the island, so that causes difficulty, but Anna's mother's unexpected visit causes others. This was a good 4th book in the series, leading neatly to book 5.
This book kept me immersed throughout the murder and the investigation. I didn't want to put the book down. Finding out extra information in this book kept me fully engaged and wanting more. I really enjoy the way London Lovett writes and am excited for the next book in the series.
Another good story on Frostfall Island. Lots of suspects on this crime. Too bad there is always one person who turns out to be bad. Anna is a like-able lead character.
This series is amazing and just keeps getting better with each book. Each one is my new favorite. This one has it all suspense, mystery and lots of chaos! The quirky characters are becoming old friends and I can't wait to sit down with them and catch up. There were several places I laughed out loud as many of my favorite things are mentioned from puzzles, crocs, Princess and movies. Not to mention something is brewing.....so many hits of more mystery to come! This one was so good I read in two days!
