Born in 1960 and raised on an overdose of television, NASA, and science fiction, Ryk Brown has worked as a cook, rock guitarist, stage lighting technician, and paramedic. He currently resides in Northern California with his wife, daughter, and cat. By day he fixes computers, and by night he creates stories.
Having spent his entire life "thinking stuff up", the advent of digital publishing has finally given him an excuse to write it all down and share it with others. ("Others" meaning someone other than his poor wife and daughter.)
A long-time fan of all things science and space, his goal is to write and publish an on-going series of sci-fi adventures. To be set in his own version of humanity's future, his characters will explore the vast reaches of the galaxy, and perhaps even the universe. He invites you all to join him on this journey through his vivid imagination.

I have been reading Ryk Brown books since his very first book. He hooked me with the story and I have been reading ever since. I just finished The Frontier Saga Fringe Worlds book 5. Can hardly wait to start the next book. This new series finds Nathan Scott and crew building a new civilization farther out than man has even gone before.

I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is 8 hours and thirteen minutes. Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the series.

What happened to this series? There is no bad guy.

I loved the overall series and have been reading it for many years. However, when they're constantly asking why are we doing this, and is it legal, over and over - I too am asking the same.

This is the 4th book I've read where they ask why they are attacking the alliance. There is no evil person or government. In fact, there is no war, there is no crime, quality of life is good, and people are generally happy. There is no purpose for this series. There is no true bad guy. Could the alliance be better, yes. But, it's far better than the other bad governments.

Not worth the read - there is no purpose to this series.

Captain Nathan Scott wants to do the right thing. So far, however, that mission has involved stealing three 500-year-old vessels that need a ton of work and can no longer perform as designed. They need a lot of work. In "Escape of the Free Fleet," the fifth in the Frontiers Saga Part 3 series, author Ryk Brown poses that problem to his cast of characters, and they respond. Sure they need resources, technology and means. But really, the crew of the Aurora need versatility and speed. They need to get around quicker. Nathan and his crew are already protecting developing planets that had been preyed upon by a group of unscrupulous pirates. And those planets don't have any defenses against rival pirate gangs, and a really powerful overlord. Nathan comes up with an idea to steal jump gates, massive structures that sit in the darkness of space and send ships to distant locations. Will he and the Aurora, using help from the barely spaceworthy other ships, be successful? You've got to read to find out.

Wandering Through Space🚀💫🌏
What Plot? Where's the Plot?
Book 5!
The writing is good and the book is edited well hut the story meanders and muddles through space with no clear purpose.
But WAIT! The Real purpose is to sell books! All these novels in this series end in a cliffhanger ensnaring the reader into reading the next book.
But ALAS!, its all in vain as the series Has no purpose except to sell books and thus no end.

I got this e-book from Amazon with Kendall unlimited.
Still reading, tho I wonder why?. On to book six in hopes of finding the hero in a situation where he actually accomplishes something to save mankind or rid the galaxy of some heinous villains.

Overuse of wondering

I have enjoyed follow the stories from the first book of the first series. I find it a bit annoying that characters always wonder, never ask, say, state, etc! Which is the only negative thing I can say. I just finished reading this book for the second time. As always, I wish the next book was already in a finished form so I could continue reading! Adding a little more exotic tension and experience between characters might increase the audience as its a touch of humanity that flavor all real-life situations and all human lives!

A Great Read, but there are a few issues with the plot

Well paced and features great characters. The major problem that I have is the very beginning. At the end of the previous book the Aurora jumped into a combat engagement with three or four Alliance cruisers with no main jump energy reserve. They were surrounded when the book ended. Yet somehow they had magically reappeared at the rendezvous point at the beginning of this book. There are also a couple of smaller contradictions later in this book.

Everything is done in a (jump)flash with this bunch.

This is a little less intense than most of this series but I still put most non-mandatory activity on hold to finish the book before bedtime. Audacious plans, executed well which might be a little routine by book 35. Our favorite characters, now in new trouble with new enemies in new places. Ryk Brown continues to amaze me with his world building skills. Number 6 is in the queue

My happy place

Every book in this series is a 5 star rating. (OK there WAS one 4 but only because I was bored how long the set up took.) When I get a notification another book is out I can't tell you how happy it makes me and if I'm not near the end of whatever book I'm reading I generally ditch it to get back to the Aurora. Another good story in this universe.

More fin and adventures. Looking forward to the next installment!

I like the discussions on AI and how easy it would be to become ovelry dependant on them. Looking forward to more of Nathan and his round table of officers bringing freedom and the original ideals of the alliance back!

I have really enjoyed the series

But this book has very little action. I do not know is this book is a set up for future books or the author has become mired in things that really do not matter. A lot of new characters are introduced. Whether they continue on is in the air. Read it but be prepared for a slow slog.

Great read....

It's always the frontiers saga books are fantastic. I've been reading the series for quite a while now. I love all the action sequences. I know all the main characters and Love their interactions with each other. In the bonds that they made with each other. I would say go to the 1st book and start reading from the 1st book on, you won't be sorry!!

Don’t miss a word from any of the books in the there sagas. Exceptional character development, solid future tech premises and people you come to love,,, because of their humanity! Reminds me of my feeling when I first read Arthur C Clarke or Asimov. Do h yourself a favor & start reading from the beginning,,, now.

achievement

Nathan Scot and the crew of the Aurora embark on adventures unimaginable 537 years prior. The actions they take will stun the Alliance, as well as the pirate leader and several mega corporations.
A must read. Read the previous books in the Episode if you need the background.

Nathan does it again.

After rescuing the ships from the Alliance, Nathan tries to help the passengers by informing them about the real reason why he took the ships. Some wanted to help, but others were not so sure.

This was a fun one! I love all of the adventures of Nathan and the crew, but this one was a fun one. Sometimes they're empire strikes back, sometimes they're return of the Jedi. This one was the latter.

Another outstanding episode.

I've felt since part1 that this was the best scfi series out there. The characters, the planning briefings, the execution of the missions are simply the best.

Strange Ending - But still good!

The strange ending - with no spoilers here - I believe is a sign a new chapter / storyline coming but this hasn’t been the strongest of storylines so far.

Still space opera at its finest though & a dam good read!
