First off, the art in this story is absolutely beautiful. I love it.

A cute book that begins "It was a dark and stormy night. Barbie was snug in her bed..."

Barbie reading in bed

Barbie's sisters cannot sleep so she winds up a story for them from the things she sees around her: a bunny, a ring, the thunderstorm outside, and of course her sisters. The story that she comes up with is about two Princesses who go on a magical picnic.

This is a level 2 book intended for kids from preschool to first grade to familiarize children with basic vocabulary, short sentences, and simple stories.

This book is about Barbie telling Kelly and Stacie a bedtime story about two princesses.

I was honestly a bit surprised to find that the book was illustrated, rather than using posed pictures of Barbie dolls (like on the cover page). The illustrations were nice though and used a soft pastel colour palette.

Part of a personal challenge to read all of my boyfriend's and his sister's childhood books before we donate and give them away.
