“To be fair, everyone was already dead when I got there.”
When Valerie wakes in purgatory and is confronted by the valkyries, powerful beings assigned to safeguard the light, she can’t remember who she is. Even so, she’s certain she isn’t the traitor they all think.
None seem more suspicious of her than the callous Jaemin, whose cruel treatment thrusts Valerie onto a desperate mission to clear her name and win back the trust of those she double-crossed. But Valerie’s quest for the truth leads her to discover something sinister—each of the light’s guardians hides a dark secret of their own.
Valerie is Episode 1 of Brittni Chenelle’s Serialized Eleven Wings Series—definitive proof that little books can host colossal stories. This is only 1 out of 6 episodes, meant to be binged. It is not novel-length. Expect cliffhangers!
Brittni Chenelle is a USA Today Bestselling Multicultural Fantasy Author who specializes in multi-POV romances and the angsty enemies-to-lovers trope. She loves to explore the blurred lines between good and evil and believes wholeheartedly in a great story's ability to bring people together.
When she's not writing, she can be found at her home in South Korea where she spends far too much time consuming coffee, dark chocolate, and videos of animals doing human things.
Opening on a fight scene you start with action, and then move into a world where a small group of warriors protect innocents from danger.. Valerie is swept into this world with no memory of her past - but many remember her.
Brittni has done a great job of introducing this world, these characters to us - without destroying the mysteries of what will come in the next book... and the nice thing is while this book ends on a cliffhanger - this series is being released quickly, just a few weeks between each book, so we can quickly move through the series to see what comes next.. and knowing Brittni, you're going to want to stick around and see what comes next.
I was privileged enough to receive an advance copy of this book - and I am leaving this review so that you all can have a chance to know how amazing it is so that you'll want to get it.
Valerie wakes up in purgatory amongst powerful Valkyries. The things is, she doesn’t remember who she is. And everyone is suspicious of her. If she's honest with herself, she's suspicious of herself too. During this short paranormal romance, we figure out little by little who Valery is. However, by the end, we still don't know much about her.
It was a fun short read. The beginning was slow to build, but it makes sense since Valerie had no clue who see was. We were finally getting somewhere and the book ended on a cliffhanger, which left me wanting more. There isn't much romance, but there is definitely something between Valerie and a broody Valkyrie that I can't wait to explore.
Short but interesting book, and ends on a cliffhanger without knowing what the series is really about.
Book one is told POV of Valerie, and it starts with the confusion of a battle. Like Valerie, we only know what we see and learn. And it's all new because she has lost her memories.
We do know she has been missing. Her and her friends protect Lux, which houses the good in people who haven't fully moved on yet. There is distrust in their group....And every guy is gorgeous.
So far, it's plot, world, and character building slowly. Like Valerie, we don't know how things work or how she came to be. But we are getting to know all these people and it's short and sweet.
I am not usually a fan of stories about main characters who lose their memory, but I thought I’d give this one a shot. Well, color me wrong. This was a very interesting read. Yes, it isn’t very long, but oh my is it interesting. Valerie comes to with no memory of who she is or really anything. She finds out she’s in a Purgatory-like place, and she is a Valkyrie. And she also might be a traitor. This kept my attention for the whole book, and I was ready for the second. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I'm enjoying this story so far and very excited to get to know some other characters. The way this story was written is a very interesting concept. I appreciate Brittni Chenelle and the magic as well as creativeness she puts into her novels.
Great start to this series. Valerie wakes up with no memory of who and what she is. Her friends think she has betrayed them but she has no idea if it's true. Story is very interesting and has you guessing as to what will happen next.
The first in a new series that introduces us to the wing creatures of the world. Valerie is an enigma. She has only what other tell about herself to go by. She isn't afraid though and this story tells things from her POV. We watch her dive into this world of purgatory and decide who telling the truth or not. It's not easy given that she has nothing to guide her judgements. She only has people who seem want to help. It's an intriguing start to a new series.
I am not usually a fan of this genre, but this novella caused me to change my mind. It reminded me of the classic series, “Magic Kingdom for Sale. Sold!”, where the hero, or in this case the heroine, arrives in their world not having any idea of what’s going on, what the rules are, or what is expected of them. The characters are mostly sympathetic, but each has his or her own problems. There was plenty of action to keep the story moving forward. A good romance is in the works. Although this is a novella, it is actually the first part of what basically is a novel, with each of the novellas continuing the story, but from differing points of view. Don’t start this series without intending to read all of it. Cliffhangers abound, and not all questions will be answered until the final story is read. I received this book as an ARC without requirement for a review. Great job by the author, and I’m on to the second story.
Valerie is the first book in Brittni Chenelle’s Eleven Wings series. This particular novella focuses on a young woman by the name of Valerie. She’s just recently died and has arrived back in a place that she should be familiar with, but her memories have been wiped away. But while she remembers nothing, the people she meets remember her, and they remember everything up until the day she disappeared a year ago. Valerie is a mixed bag of a story for the beginning of this series in my opinion. I was expecting a bit more detail as to what happened when she dies. Especially with how the prologue has her handling the death of her pet fish. Not going to lie, but I snickered a bit. There is a really heavy air of mystery throughout this book. While Valerie is learning where she is exactly, about the other Valkyrie, she’s struggling to remember. The author keeps my attention especially with the dreams and the fact that one of the group views her as a traitor. Readers will eventually get some clues as to where things are going, but not too many. I’m rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. I felt the pace was a bit slower than I would have liked. I’d have liked a bit more background on even how Valerie died. The series has potential, and I’m eager to see what happens next as the ending chapters started to get really interesting.
The first book in Brittni Chenelle's new Eleven Wings series is off to a fantastic start. Valerie dies and discovers dying is not the end of her life. A scary creature attacks her when she wakes up and she feels like she is about to die for a second time but is saved by a winged being. What she doesn't know is that she is or was one of them and she's been branded a traitor after she went missing a year ago. But Valerie doesn't remember her fellow Valkyries or how to fight like one, she's sure they have the wrong person. But as more of the puzzle pieces fit together there's so much more that she doesn't understand. Can she find out before she gets killed again by the creatures. A great start to this series and I can't wait to get the next book in the series. I was given an ARC review copy of this book by the author because I begged as I love her other series (My favourite is The Fae & The Fallen series ,so far) but the opinions expressed are my own personal opinions. But if you don't believe me check out her books. You can thank me later!
Im a huge fan of Brittni's books so I was super excited when I got a review copy of her newest book. Although I'm not sure I would call this a full book - I think she describes them as "episodes." Well they are super short and easy to read in one sitting.
From page one you're thrown into the chaos of this world. You aren't sure what's going on or who anyone is. You learn things as the H (Valerie) learns them, since she lost her memory and is trying to figure out who she is and what happened before she lost her memory.
Just as I was starting to get sucked in and flying through this story, this episode ends. I wish there was more but I kind of enjoy the smaller "episodes." I am definitely excited for the second episode and I can't wait to see this full story develop.
Thank you Brittni for the advanced review copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Valerie wakes up in the purgatory among winged, beautiful Valkyries, but her feelings are mixed. Her memories are missing, she is convinced she isn't a Valkyrie material and wasn't one before, and moreover, definitely isn't the traitor they think she is. But it is very difficult to prove the others wrong, with her amnesia and her strange dreams.. Short and fast opening of a series that blends together beauty and darkness. The characters are complex, distinctive, and each of them mysterious in a different ways, as everyone is keeping secrets and Valerie's memories are lost. However the chemistry between her and Jaemin is obvious, despite his attitude. The tensed moment with battle at the end is a wicked cliffhanger and one simply has to take the next book right away.
Book one in this new series of short stories, Eleven Wings, follows a group of valkyries, though this story is about Valerie. Valerie is accused of betraying her friends, so when she finally returns after being gone, her case of amnesia is questioned by some of the group, though some of the others believe her story and try to help her piece together what they can. But what happened the night Valerie went missing? And did she really abandon her friends like they claim? This book ends on a cliffhanger, so we will need to wait to see what happens next, but so far this series is looking to be another great series by this author.
In true Brittni Chenelle fashion, we are thrust into the world of Valerie in a first-person perspective. The kicker is that Valerie has no clue who or where she is so we start off just as confused and intrigued as she is. Along the way we start to uncover more and more about each of the valkyries and it is so clear that there is A LOT more mystery to uncover. Fabulous characters and world-building. Vivid imagery. You can binge this is one sitting as its an episode of the larger series and we are going to get to see a bunch of different perspectives. I already have my favorite characters and we have barely begun! Can’t wait to dive into the rest of the series.
This episode throws the reader into a different and modern interpretation of purgatory guarded by Valkyries. The fiercest of which used to be Valerie, but now she doesn't know who she is and she is working hard to piece together the situation she finds herself in, none of which is as it immediately appears.
This works as an excellent device to introduce the world and its inhabitants as well as to set up some intriguing situations. Very little actually gets answered in this installment, and it ends on a bit of a cliff hanger. Binge-worthy start to an addictive series with all the feels, danger, and intrigue.
So, set expectations up front, this is described as EPISODE one - it's the first of 6 short, snappy books, released over the space of 2 weeks. Think of it as your latest must watch TV show! For a short book, it packs a lot in. You've got 7 main characters along with a couple of minor ones, a new world to explore, a mystery to solve and a villain to overcome. A lot of the world building comes via Valerie, the FMC, who has lost her memories - we learn about the world as she does. Luckily the next book is out in a few days, I can't wait to see where the story goes from here!
Valerie, a gal lost, comes back into herself in the middle of a battle and no idea how she got there. As the story progresses that is not the memory she is searching for, not all of her friends believe her, and finding out the answer to the riddle that her life has become could be the answer to more than just her questions. Valerie is the start of a good series set in the afterlife, so to speak, and does end in a cliffhanger. I hope the rest of the Eleven Wings series by Brittni Chenelle is as good.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This is quick short story to read. It definitely ends in a cliff hanger that make you want to continue.
The prologue makes you wonder. The author does a good job with a character that has no memories. This short story hints at the different relationships that Valerie had with everyone and leaves you wondering if she betrayed them or if she was just missing.
By the time she starts to get the last Valkyrie to start warming up to her there is an attack and I will have to read the next one to see how it will continue.
Brilliant read. Great start to a series. Love the fact that these books come out with minimal time in between so the wait is not long for your next fix. Valerie wakes up face to face with her nightmare, or a nightmare, im not sure who's nightmare when she wakes up in purgatory facing monsters. Unfortunately the dream is not over when she finds out that this is where she lives and oh she no longer has her memories and all her old friends believe she was a traitor. someone pinch her!! Brilliant read. cant wait to get started on the next.
I have read previous books from Brittni Chenelle and this Novella certainly doesn’t disappoint! I love the beginning of this mini series starting off with Valerie. We’re thrust straight into a world where our FMC has no idea who she is, where she’s been or who to trust. You meet some pretty incredible characters in such a short book but you get a real feel for them. The world building as always with Brittni’s books is spectacular and beautifully crafted. This first Novella/Episode is a real fast paced and binge worthy book that ends of a cliffy but we don’t have long to wait for the next one!
I've come to rely on certain things from a Brittni Chenelle story. Engaging writing style, intriguing characters, action-packed plots, and phenomenal world-building.
I was so not disappointed with Valerie as it had all that and the extra fun of a mystery to drive us headlong into the next story.
This series is a little different as its shorter serialized episodes, which is fun because we don't have to wait long for the next one. And you're not going to want to wait, trust me.
This first episode is all about introducing the world the author has built and it's characters. It packs a lot of details that get unveiled as the main character, who has lost her memory, uncovers them. There's still a lot of mystery, unanswered questions at the end of this first episode but in all, it leaves you thirsting for more. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely fell in love with this series! Set in the world of Valkyrie’s we meet Valerie who has no idea where she is or who she is so it’s very mysterious and intriguing. The world building is incredible and the author has done such a great job that you feel as if you are actually in purgatory alongside Valerie as she starts her journey. It’s an exciting start to this series and I cannot wait to read the next episode!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
What an intriguing start to a new series this is. We meet Valerie as she wakes up with absolutely no memories in a place that looks like Purgatory. All of her friends think she has betrayed them but with no memory she has no clue if this is true or not. Makes for an interesting start to what should be a great series. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
