Jane Austen's world meets the Highlands of Scotland in an exciting new, sexy Scottish Regency series by USA Today bestselling author Eliza Knight. Gently bred ladies collide with noble Scottish heroes in these new dramatic and emotionally charged tales of misadventure and love.
Bryson Mackenzie Fraser, Lord Lovat, is in need of a wife, but not just any bride will do. He needs someone unaware of his reputation in the Highlands or the stipulations behind his inheritance. On the pretense of visiting his aging aunt in London, he begins his search in earnest. Except the ladies of England find his Scottish upbringing distasteful. While at a club, he overhears an old baron speak of the five beautiful daughters he must marry off before he dies. The way seems surely paved—all Bryson has to do is follow the baron and his family to the English countryside, where he can begin his wooing in earnest.
Miss Freya Grysham, daughter of Baron Braye, finds herself and her four sisters in dire straits when her ill father informs her that the entail of his title, lands and fortune is unbreakable. This means her braggart of a cousin will soon inherit everything. With a laughable dowry and a cynical, if droll, demeanor, finding a willing mate will be a challenge, especially with the arrogant Lord Fraser constantly in attendance. She cannot shake the man who appears to disdain all of society—the man she can’t help but admire.
Then circumstances force Bryson and Freya to separate. To win Freya’s heart this Scot must set aside his pride. Will Freya say “I do” before the clock runs out?

London, England
Coming from Scotland Bryson Mackenzie Fraser, Baron Lovat, comes to London seeking a Countess, in other words a wife. The problem is he has been dishonored due to previous fabrications that have ruined his reputation in Scotland. Which means it must be someone who is clueless and that has no knowledge of this information from his past. This also must be kept hidden at all costs or it could ruin his chances of ever finding a wife!
Furthermore his Grandfather made it abundantly clear in his will that the only possible way Bryson could inherit his title, lands, and fortune was he must take an English wife. Therefore Bryson has no choice in this matter, which means he had to put away his kilts for the conforming uncomfortable English breeches! He also felt most English women had a prejudice against Scottish men thinking they were wild and uneducated and uncouth! He also felt these women were only interested in him for his title, and fortune not for himself. Now he has felt this was more or less just a business contract with no feelings at all.
However his Aunt makes a list of possible candidates and he is happy the one woman named Freya he is attracted to but annoys him so much is not on the list. Unfortunately his shy best friend Grey is madly in love with Freya’s sister Riley and her best friend. Plus Bryson insults Freya right from the start as they are like oil and vinegar yet both are extremely attracted to each other. What he does not know is that Freya’s father has major financial issues which they have been hiding from society or they would have gotten the direct cut. Unfortunately there are no son’s in the family of five daughters so their irritating cousin Albert will inherit which will force one of the daughters to marry to do her duty and save. With that being Freya it looks like she is the chosen one because she does not want to marry this boring cousin who she does not like in the least!
However Bryson and Freya soon become matchmakers for Grey and Riley which forces Bryson and Freya to spend more time together. Of course their love/hate relationshipturep starts to shine but not everyone wants Freya and Bryson together. On top of that just as Bryson starts to realize he has feelings for this English Rose, he overhears Baron Braye talk with his solicitor about his financial troubles. Will Bryson think he and his best friend Grey are being used by Freya and her sister Riley for their fortune, lands and estates?
Freya is the the first woman to ever capture Bryson’s heart, plus the one person he can talk to honestly about anything, now will she break his heart? Shall Freya believe Bryson has used her and left her in the dust? On top of that there is a Scottish villain named Campbell in London who ruins women and their reputations and is stalking one of the Grysham sisters. Will he succeed in destroying the Grysham family? Find out what happens in this Scottish regency masterpiece.
Eliza Knight pens another phenomenal Scottish regency novel that I could not put down! She is an author I have been reading for over a decade and never disappoints. It does not matter if it is historical fiction, medieval fiction, Scottish historical or a historical regency. It is always filled with wonderful gripping storylines, characters and plotlines that are absolutely brilliant! Ms. Knight definitely has a special gift and I am absolutely thrilled she shares her unique talent with the world!
A book I highly recommend!

At his grandfather’s urging, Bryson Mackenzie Fraser, Baron Lovat goes to London to find an English wife. He relies on his aunt, Lady Daven for help, suggesting that while he will marry an Englishwoman to appease his grandfather, he would like a bride with some Scottish blood. His aunt agrees to help and supplies him with a list of eligible brides, but then she confuses him when she introduces him to Miss Freya Grysham, a lovely woman who is completely wrong for him and not on the list. Bryson who usually has no problem charming ladies, finds himself immediately at odds with Freya. He is happy to be done with her, but when he learns her sister is the love of his best friend’s life, he will try to get along with her to help his friend. Too bad she doesn’t seem willing to play nice.
Freya Grysham is the second daughter of Baron Grysham, she and her elder sister Riley are partaking in the London season with hopes of finding husbands. Riley is madly in love with Hugh Gray, the Earl of Ashbury, but they are both painfully shy and the courtship is not progressing. To make matters worse, their father makes it clear that they need to marry well or risk being left penniless when their father dies and their cousin inherits. There is also the suggestion that Riley marry him, but Freya knows her sister is in love and will do whatever is necessary to help her attain her HEA – even spend time with the earl’s obnoxious best friend, Lord Lovat. But the more time she spends with him, the more she finds herself drawn to him but is sure nothing will come of it, especially when her family abruptly leaves London. Leaving her to wonder if anyone will be getting a HEA!
What a great start to a new series! Featuring an enemies-to-lovers trope, the book is filled with likable characters, more than one romance, an elopement, a bit of drama, a nod to previous heroes in other series, highwaymen, lots of sisters, witty banter, some tears, a bit of steam and finally a HEA. This is the first book in a new series, but I didn’t really feel a lot of setup for the series, but I am assuming that her friends will be finding their HEAs in upcoming installments. Overall, I enjoyed this story and will certainly be looking forward to the next book.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that I requested and was provided to me by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.*
My rating for A Scot's Pride, by Eliza Knight: 3.5 stars, rounded down to 3 stars.
I have read several Eliza Knight books, and she is a talented writer. While this book was not as good as some of her other books -- it was still somewhat entertaining.
My main issue with this book was that the h was so incredibly judgmental. She formed a bad opinion of the H when she first met him, simply because of something he said -- then she refused to change that opinion for a long time, even after he had shown that he wasn't as bad as she thought.
I also had trouble with the H's attitude toward marriage and his apparent lack of social skills. I realize that his attitude toward marriage was typical for many men of that time period, but he was really kind of obnoxious about it. He also kept saying and doing things that were socially unacceptable for the time, but no one ever called him out on it (even his aunt, who was trying to help him find a wife!).
I also thought that the relationship of the H/h turned from bad to "in love" too suddenly to be realistic. One minute they were constantly irritated with each other, and the next they were in love. I just didn't buy it.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Bryson Mackenzie Fraser needs a wife, but not just any woman will do. He needs someone who doesn’t know his past or his reputation that he earned back in the Highlands. He doesn't want anyone to know the stipulations of his inheritance either. On the pretense of visiting his elderly Aunt in London, he begins his search. One night, while at a club, he overhears an old baron speak about his five beautiful daughters that he must have married off to good husbands before he dies. All Bryson has to do is follow the baron and his family to the English countryside, and then he can set out to woo one of the baron’s daughters, but sometimes good intentions can run afoul.
Miss Freya Grysham, daughter of Baron Braye, finds herself troubled when her ill father tells her that the entail of his title, lands, and fortune is unbreakable. This means that her cousin will inherit everything. Now she's left with a small dowry, and she wonders how she will ever find herself a decent husband, especially with Lord Fraser, constantly in the way. She can't seem to shake the man who appears to disdain all of society. The same man she can't help but secretly admire.
Will this Scot be able to set aside his pride and go after the one woman he has ever truly loved? And will Freya be able to accept him for who he is before it's too late?
Eliza Knight has been one of my go-to authors for a very long time. I've never been disappointed, and I'm not now either. This book was incredible. There were so many things happening that it kept my mind utterly occupied. I'd find myself trying to go to sleep, but I was unable to because I was trying to figure out what would happen next. I didn’t see a lot of things coming, so when they did, I was shocked in a very good way. This author is like a chameleon. She can write whatever she wants in any genre, and it always turns out perfect. Ms. Knight, if I could give you more than five stars, I would because I truly enjoyed this book immensely, and I recommend it to readers everywhere.
Great banter between the MC and I enjoyed how they mostly misread each other. Cookie cutter as far as the family is on hard times and the father has to marry off his daughters. The mother is emotional and not supportive at all. I did like the older sister and her love - they made a cute couple. I couldn't understand why the sister who caused so much trouble, went ahead with her wishes. Didn't make sense her parents would want that for her.
The other family members were not written with much depth. I wanted to experience how the H's grandfather reacted to the H's news on who he was marrying. Nothing mentioned about the ultimatum again.
Foreplay outside of marriage - heat level 4 out of 5 and lovemaking within 5 out of 5. I did like this couple and felt their connection when they decided to see the real person.
Some tension and drama, HEA, little on romance and steam, no cheating and no cliffhanger. (ljb)
Pride and Prejudice but IN KILTS?! with KISSING?! Yes please!
This was a delightful reimagining of Austen's P&P and I was very entertained. This story follows the general plot of P&P, but changes it up enough to give us a fresh story. MCs Freya and Bryson are in lust at first sight and things move along at quick enough pace to keep readers engaged. We of course get some misunderstandings that would be solved by a conversation, some meddlesome aunts (but in a good way), and some fun banter between our two MCs. A very fun, quick read! I hope a Persuasion version is planned as part of this series!
I read via audio and enjoyed Antony Ferguson's narration.
An insufferable Scot as far as she was concerned. She was a snobby English woman as far as he was concerned. But his best friend was shy and in love with her sister so Bryson was doing his friend a favor trying to help him. Her sister was also shy and in love with his friend so.she was helping her. Bryson and Freya succeeded in getting those two together while battling each other and falling in love. Once again Eliza Knight grabs you by the heartstrings and makes you so glad you chose to read this book
It was such a rip off of of Pride and Prejudice with the exception of Mr Darcy (barely disguised as a Scotsman) doing things to Elizabeth Bennet (forgot her name already in this version) that Jane Austen would have fainted at the mere thought of them. Only a certain degree of amusement kept me going. But the question is: Why did Knight do it?
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Eliza always writes Winners!!!!! What a truly great story. I loved the characters and storyline so much. Such strong ladies as well. Some laughs too. Can’t wait for the next one to come out. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
I enjoy Eliza Knight's books. They have a realistic and positive view of the time period.
A Scot's Pride The Distinguished Scots Series, Book 1 By: Eliza Knight Narrated by: Antony Ferguson Length: 6 hrs and 42 mins Release date: 08-15-23 Language: English
Fun well written romance. Bryson didn't want to marry but had to, to inherit and Freya wasn't interested in any of the men of the ton. But she hadn't met Bryson yet. Sweet yet funny story.
Bruh this is a pride and prejudice retelling. I didn’t even notice and I love that. Usually I find retellings to fall short of my expectations but this is quite nice
A wonderful story and romance, I enjoyed the plot and the characters are well written. Very engaging and loved Bryson and Freya's journey to happily ever after.
My first book from Eliza Knight ma'am well done I loved from the begin to end I can not wait for the ext book. Gives me Bridgerton and Pride and Prejudice vibes. However, man, in a kilt; yes, please
Lord Bryson Fraser has come to London to find an English bride. He needs to satisfy the terms to inherit the title.
Miss Freya Grysham is one of five daughters of a Baron. Her father is desperately trying to marry them off because they will not be able inherit anything.
This is a lively historical romance with more than one love story. It's full of scandal and mischief, both from the past and for these characters.
I don't think that it's part of a series, unless one of the sisters has her own story.
Bryan was a proud Scot heading to London for a bride according to his grandfather’s will. Freda was the one his Aunt introduced him to and it was a love hate at the beginning. Fun filled adventures on every page with family antics and promises of true love!
