Born in Fukui, Japan in 1977, Masakazu Ishiguro (Japanese name: 石黒正数) is an award-winning comic artist who made his debut in 2000 with the Afternoon Magazine Four Seasons Award winning short "HERO".
While Ishiguro initially cut his teeth within the science-fiction realm he is possibly best known for his comedies; particularly the Japan Media Arts Award winning And Yet the Town Moves (Shonen Gahosha). Whismical, stylish and often surreal, Ishiguro's works are often put into their own SF genre (slightly fantastical).
The next volume and we are building to the apocalypse! Earthquakes are happening. A meteor is coming. What I already thought had happened with that girl really happened and now I am just mostly pissed and frustrated, especially later on. GOSH. Was that necessary? At times it was a bit confusing as we went from the kids being tiny to them being bigger and more adult but it didn't always feel like time was passing by. I am still happy that most of these kids have each other that they aren't completely alone now they have been taken from the facility. We do see some are getting sick, that there are hiruko to be found. And then there is the other side with Maru and Kiruko travelling, finding a family I am still very sus about (especially given that chapter illustration and what the older woman said at the end), seeing a scary Hiruko, and oh yes, finding a place that is populated which made me happy as the world is so empty still and I am happy that people are slowly rebuilding. Going to be reading the next, and for now last, volume soon!
Got distracted finishing this one. It’s becoming more hard boiled and even more complex! I love when there are spurts of “normalcy” in such a terrible future world in this narrative. Seeing people who grew up in the post-cataclysm world experiencing nice things is very lovely/cathartic.
Wikipedia says that this volume covers up to chapter 49 but I legit don't believe them, it's gotta end at 48. I read 49 anyway. This volume has what is probably the biggest reveal in the whole series. The heaven storyline takes place 15 years before the hell storyline. They were obviously separate in some way but it was never made explicit until now. It also completely retexualizes Maru's goals because if "heaven" isn't "heaven" and tokio isn't the person with his face and the hiruko children aren't like him then what actually are the answers to all those questions. They very well may be the exact same answers in just a radically different context. It's things like these that make me extremely mad that the series isn't finished yet, C'MON!!!

The old grandma in child's body, some family in the middle of nowhere, blablabla. I don't care.
Michika is the most annoying character ever. I saw a character like that in seinen so many times, I am tired.
My only question is why tf author thought it would be a good idea adding Maru trying to grope sleeping Kiruko after the SA that happened a dozen chapters back? Could he not think of anything else that would be funny? Or is there a quota for horny Maru waiting to be fulfilled? It was not funny. It was distasteful.
I was surprised who the doctor was. At least that was something.
maru and kiruko's budding feelings for each other im kicking my feet twirling my hair etc they both don't want their journey to end bc then they'll have to part ways im soooo unwell :(( i'm flying through these volumes i need more Right Now. this is such a compelling mystery series and i love the sense of unease and suspense permeated throughout the manga, it keeps you hooked. i especially love love love the parts with the school and the kids.
jesus christ this took a turn (never thought i’d put a five star on any book from these series)… special thnx to those brave editors reminding us who is who at this point.
