A FUN READ. This story starts with a slightly unlikeable character leaving his family but I soon felt empathy for him when he entered the bewildering and disconcerting Chance Hotel. Encountering one nonsensical paradox after another, he tries to make sense of the place. Every time he thinks he gets it, a new level of weirdness seeps in and he's thrown back into confusion. One plot twist after another, he finally works his way through the odyssey of strangeness and .... well, I won't give any spoilers, so let me just say - if you like surprises, you'll like this book.
Welcome to the Hotel California. I mean the Chance Hotel. The concept was interesting combining supernatural mysteries with the mundane. In my opinion this book could have been edited a bit more it meanders and seems to loose the plot at multiple points trying to cram to many elements together to set up further books. I am looking forward to following Jason Chance's adventures at the Chance Hotel.

While I really liked the premise of this book, I felt like it was trying to hard to choose the main storyline. As a result, neither option was able to reach its full potential. As a sidenote, I hope the author was a man- otherwise I have no way to explain why they would think the Leila character and storyline was a good idea or well done.

I didn't enjoy this. I thought it was long winded, drawn out and illogical. I know it's a fantasy, supernatural book, but it is still missing a certain amount of logic to make the story acceptable. There are so many unanswered questions in this book to make it incomplete, but as I didn't like it I don't really care for the answers anymore. it's just too slow a read for me.
i don't even know how to describe this book. it felt like i was reading ten different books at the same time and while it was extremely confusing (and gave me headaches with how dumb the main character is), it was weird addictive to read.
3/5 because i didn't want to put it down but i had no idea what was happening for half the book.
This book is amazing, hair-raising, Delicious, fantastical, and… did I say hair-raising? The writer out-guessed me and the ending both saddened and surprised me. I love the theme of redemptive suffering. Will enjoy further books by this author.
Well, this book was different to the ones I usually read. The Chance hotel is unlike any other, it is an entity. It houses other worldly portals as well as humans. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Didn't like it much. The first one third or more was all about Jason Chance doing dumb stuff, getting into trouble and not even trying to mind his own business! I would like to move my rating to 2 or 2.5. The more intense parts with the scary monsters was the only thing that saved this book for me.
DNF made it to about 40% but it was like reading a book about a horrible MC have a complete emotional and mental breakdown. I just couldn't anymore with this book, and it is not worth my time to keep trying to push through.
This was such a fun read! It starts so simple, guy stays overnight at a hotel and then goes to crazy town. Is there a monster? Are the vending machines magic? Great cast of characters. Looking forward to the next in the series.

I really enjoyed this story! Jason Chance is having some problems with his marriage, so he leaves home without a destination in mind. Fortunately, he comes across the fortuitous Chance Hotel, which turns out to be an excellent place for second chances. While enjoying his stay, the reader and Jason are both subjected to a number of mysteries-what is in Jason's bag? What, if anything, is hidden on the 13th floor that does not exist? What is going on with the staff? As you read the story, these mysteries are answered in delightfully unpredictable ways. I found Jason's character a bit unlikable at first, but he grows on you throughout the story. The cast at the hotel: Leila, Richard, Marvin, Chef Terrance, Dr. Heinrich, and the rest are also fun to get to know. You will definitely be left wondering what adventures they will get up to next!
As I have not read any of this author's books, I was not sure what to expect - the blurb sounded interesting but it was a lot more than just "interesting" - intriguing? mysterious? exciting? mind boggling? out-there? creepy? Perhaps all the above. Well, it's different for sure. Some bits feel a little long winded but to be fair, it does lend to building the suspense. I did enjoy it though, certainly recommend that this is well worth a read.
