The Wonder Boys #2

Love in Writing: A Sweet Romantic Comedy

Rate this book
Allie has sworn off dating.

Which is unfortunate, because the cute guy at the grocery store has finally struck up a conversation, and shy and sweet Ben is even more adorable than he looks. When an ex shows up trying to rekindle the flame at the same time her mother tries to set her up with a neighbor, Allie ropes Ben into being her fake boyfriend to get everyone off her back.

Ben has been in love with the stranger at the grocery store for months despite never speaking to her. When he finally works up the courage to say hi, he’s suddenly thrown into a fake relationship with no chance of things becoming real. Not unless he helps Allie on her journey of self-discovery.

A weekend of pretending to be a couple turns into weeks of hanging out and discovering together the people they want to be. But despite Allie’s growing feelings for practically perfect Ben, she isn’t sure she can risk the best friendship she’s ever had when all of her past relationships have failed.

Or maybe a little risk is worth a chance at real love.

This second book in the Wonder Boys series was so adorable! Ben and Allie have been eyeing each other from afar at the grocery store every week for the past while and I love their meet-cute!

Why did I love this book?

Ben is not your typical hero - shy and unsure of himself
Allie's journey of self-discovery is so empowering
Halloween and Ninja Turtles
Fake relationship - yea, we all know how this is going to go down!
How much Ben and Allie support and respect each other
Neither main character has a direction in life but they help each other find and follow their dreams
Thanksgiving dinner - oh, my!!!
The Wonder Boys being so protective
Christmas Eve in the treehouse

Even though Allie and Ben are not your typical hero and heroine but they are wonderfully authentic and I just adore them! Loving the Wonder Boys series and can't wait for Cam's story next! 4.5 stars

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

This Wonder Boys series is WONDERFUL! We're only into this series with two books, but I already know I'm here for them all!

This is a gentle romance and so incredibly sweet. I loved the self discovery of our two main characters. It was real and authentic. As the climax grew I could not put this book down. I love when an author has me holding my breath just as much as the characters are! Dana never ceases to amaze me with the heart and soul she can put into her characters. At one point in the book I had to message her because I was feeling all of the feels! She is a master of her craft!

I love how this couple was introduced in book 1 and absolutely adored how book 2 played out. "Grocery Girl" and "Watchdog" are my new favorite in this series :) Trust me, you're going to want to get to know this group of friends! Highly recommend!!

Thanks to the author for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Oh, my heart. Love On Camera was such a sweet, unique story with Madi and Oliver, that I wasn't sure Ben and Allie's story would quite live up.

I'm so glad that I was wrong.

This book is just...sigh. I can't put into words how much I loved it.

First, Ben is just completely adorable. I loved that he wasn't the typical hero. He's shorter than 6ft. He's strong, but not ridiculously muscular (that's Cam, whose book comes next 😉). And he is a major introvert with social anxiety. Okay, the author doesn't specifically mention social anxiety with him, but he has a really hard time being himself with others and speaking up.

I thought Allie's character would be a bit harder to like and relate to since she confesses early on that she's a serial dater. But she was so real and raw that I couldn't help but feel for her. She's been in onr relationship after another since she was in HS and has completely lost herself. The book was a lot about Allie finding who she is as a person.

I loved how Ben supported Allie throughout the book and showed her how wonderful she was.

They both had major issues to overcome and they helped each other be brave and become better people.

If you love:

♥️Fake dating
♥️Awkward meet-cutes (there were several 😆)
♥️Supportive friends
♥️Meddling moms
♥️Quiet hero
♥️Strangers-to friends-to more
♥️Swoony kisses
♥️Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all in one book!

Then, you will love this book!

Can I give this all the stars?
I loved how relatable Ben was as an introvert and a middle child; sometimes we’re left out. I loved Allie, too, and the quest to find herself. There were so many moments where I laughed out loud and moments that were so tender and heartfelt. And there were definitely moments where I cried.
This was a fantastic addition to the Wonder Boy series.
Thank you to the author for the eARC. All opinions stated are my own.

Romance level: kissing🔥.

Ben has my heart. He's super sweet, shy & preciously awkward! 🥺💛. He deserves everything. He didn't impose anything on her. He gave all he could so she could decide on her own.

I love how honest & respectful he was. He read & understand her very well. They just complimented each other so perfectly.

He's so straightforward & I love his communication skills. Ben is a dream😍. I really loved his focus & honesty w/ himself and others. I loved that he fell first😍.

The tension & mutual pinning was painfully good! I just wanted to make them look at each other & tell the truth. You know the plot from the start, but there are some twists that make it really good. I didn't agree w/ the way she acted, but I could see where she was coming from. I was happy she made it right. She needed to find herself, stand on her own & then be with him. So happy how it turned out.

My heart was w/ Ben🧡. This series just keeps getting better & better w/ each Wonder Boy. Can't wait for book 3.

My favorite scenes:
🕹️Fun center
👖THE Jeans
🎃 Halloween
🦃 Thanksgiving
🌧️Taking care of her
🥧Cozy hugs
🔥Kisses

How is it possible to love an entire cast of characters so much that you want to be friends with them in real life?! I don’t know, but somehow LeCheminant did it!

Allie and Ben are just the most precious nuggets! And I think it’s because I see myself on BOTH of them. I feel a little stuck, a little hopeless, and a little like I’m being what everyone expects me to be instead of what I truly am. That’s what makes LeCheminant’s characters so perfectly imperfect.

And of course—we get Cam, Kit, Oliver, and Madi! It’s all the Wonder Boys (and Woman!) and I’m just so excited for more books to come! Definitely a new romcom autobuy author!

Five stars! 👏🏻

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Dana is SO good at writing her characters. They have depth and are broken yet not too broken that they can’t be helped. Every book that she’s written has crazy specific characters.

I LOVE Ben! Like he sounds so attractive and his quiet, selfless strength is so appealing. I wish he had more confidence but doesn’t everyone? Ben and Allie together was adorable. Add on that one day when Allie was sick and 😍. Super fun!

This is a perfect book to read during the fall holidays.

I have said it numerous times before, but I LOVE The Wonder Boys! Ben and Allie’s story was everything I hoped it would be and more. I am loving that with the way Dana has flipped the script on a tight-knit male friend group instead of a female one, she has also executed little change ups in other expected behaviors and personality traits flawlessly. It makes for such a fresh storyline. Ben was so relatable and sweet, I just love him in all his awkward glory and I loved seeing Allie’s growth.

Things I Loved:
-Benjamin the Wonder Boy
-Photo booth “office” 😂
-“Ironing jeans is weird.”
-Figuring out Allie’s fave pizza 🍕
-Ben’s car
-Watchdog
-The Laser Tag incident
-The jeans 👖🤣
-Forehead kisses
-“One of these days, I would really like to spend some time with you where neither of us ends up on the floor.” “Where would be the fun in that?”
-“COWABUNGA!”
-Sherlock Holmes thing
-Menace Unknown
-Thanksgiving, just the whole thing 😍
-The picture
-The sweetest, most uplifting and simultaneously entertaining HEA ♥️

Them working creatively together—swoon! My artistic heart adored that, I could totally see myself getting lost in a project like that and I loved it. I just love this group of friends and seeing Allie added to it. I can’t wait for Cam’s story next!

Book two is here! This is a book series I am SO excited about! The Wonder Boys! Do I think you need to read book one (Love On Camera) before reading this one? No. But you will be probably be happier if you do. Plus, it's a great story you just don't want to miss. You can find it HERE.

Ben and Allie are both great characters with a great arch of growth. I just loved Ben, especially as I got to know him more and more. I feel like I fell in love with him right along with Allie. He's so sweet, so unassuming, so aware of Allie and what she needs. She brings out the best in him and makes him want better things for not just Allie, but himself too.

This whole story was so gentle and soft around my heart. It felt so good. I adored it.

And of course I love this group of friends who are always around, in every book. The Wonder Boys!! And Madi. 😀 I can't wait for the next book!!

This book is in KU if you have that. Happy reading, friends!

Review:

Why did I wait so long to read a Dana LeCheminant book? I have been sorely missing out.
Love in Writing is a story about finding yourself and the one person in the world that truly sees you, and I could not ask for more.

The plot of the story flowed flawlessly thorough out the book. A true contemporary romance, with enough subplots to keep the story fresh without taking away from the love between the main characters.

Both Ben and Allie were stuck in an unhappy place in their lives and a bit lost, but the small spark found in their friendship grew into a chemistry-filled romance that had me rooting for both to admit their feelings.

I loved Ben’s quiet and noble character from the start, he was the sweetest! I liked that he put everyone’s needs before his own yet was reminded that it was ok to speak up and want more. Allie was difficult to relate to at first. She had been in so many relationships, that she lost herself and was cautious in entering a new one. But with Ben’s help, she was able to unlock her potential and find true, healthy love.

The second book of the wonder boys series also dives a bit more into the relationship between the group of childhood friends and the support they all found with each other. I really liked the diverse dynamic between them all and thought their friendships were relatable and added the right amount of complexity to the characters the story needed.

Relatable, sweet, and tough a bit on the heartstrings, love in writing was a win for me. I cannot wait for book 3 (and also to catch up on the rest of LeCheminant’s works)!

I was so excited to finally have the chance to meet The Wonder Boys!!! I had heard so much about them from the previous book. Now I need to go back and read it! Wonder Boys you lived up to the hype! This book was sooo good! Dana did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. They kind of jump right out at you and I'm finding myself still thinking about them even though I finished this book 2 days ago.

Love in Writing is Ben’s story and I have to tell you that I absolutely loved Ben! What stood out about him is that he is not your typical hero. Ben is shy and unsure of himself. He has had a crush on “The Grocery Girl” for months but he can’t bring himself to talk to her. He knows she could never possibly feel the same way. Until one day, in a few seconds of courage he does speak to her. I literally found myself cheering for Ben in my head during this scene. He is super cute the way he blushes and stammers a little. He is clearly not used to attention and he can hardly believe Allie would speak to him in return. This was so endearing and relatable to me. We come to find out that Ben is also thoughtful and insightful. He is an absolute sweetheart. It would be hard not to fall in love with Ben. I dare you to try! :)

I also found Allie relatable. Allie has always been in a relationship since her high school years. Finally at 32 she finds herself without a boyfriend and decides she needs some time to get to know herself. She has always tried to please her boyfriend and take interest in things that they like so that she doesn’t even know what her interests are. While I couldn’t relate to the always being in a relationship part I could relate to the not truly knowing yourself part because you want to please someone else. Both Ben and Allie had deeper issues that tugged at my heart and reached deep down to a special place in me.

Ben and Allie were so good together and I found this contemporary romance to be a true delight. It's full of fun moments like Ben and Allie’s first time meeting, a ninja turtle Halloween, thanksgiving dinner, and the whole fake relationship thing! I found myself laughing and crying with them many times. I loved how protective The Wonder Boys are of each other. How they always have each others back. I loved the message that even when you feel forgotten or unseen someone sees you for who you are and it's ok to always be yourself. You need to read this one! It's something special!

I am already anxiously awaiting book 3 so I can spend more time with The Wonder Boys and get Cam's story!

I really love the Wonder Boys. They are wonderfully and realistically flawed. I think what I like best is that they don't entirely know each other's struggles and I think hiding how you feel can be a very normal reaction.
Ben and Allie are swoony with a capital S. The whole fake relationship to friends to more is such a dream. So many good tropes. And the holiday scenes, any scene when they are together really. Just so so good.
If you're interested is falling in love with some characters, I highly and enthusiastically recommend this book. (And anything else by Dana Lechaminant)

This is one of my new favorite series! I love friend groups in series, but this is the first one I can think of where the friends are all men. It’s so fun to see how that plays out through the books! The Wonder Boys are amazing, and I can’t wait for the rest of their stories!

Love in Writing is an absolutely wonderful book, and I loved it so much! It made me laugh and tear up, and I felt so many different emotions while reading it! There were a lot of aspects to this book that were relatable, and there were so many parts that resonated with me. I love when books touch me in that way!

Ben’s personality was one of the relatable parts; I appreciated that he is an introvert and is socially awkward, while he’s able to talk more comfortably with his friends. Often on the outskirts, he’s the quiet one who listens to what everyone has to say. I loved how one of the themes for Ben is being seen, which was special to me because I felt so seen by his character. I also loved Allie and her journey to learn more about her own identity! She has a cute and fun personality, and I appreciated the deeper moments of her struggling to know who she truly is. While Ben and Allie are different in some ways, I also thought they were similar to each other in other ways, and I loved how their similarities also complemented each other.

This book is flawlessly woven with hilarious moments, sweet and romantic parts, and deeper elements that really made me sit back and think. I absolutely loved it, and it’s going with Love on Camera onto my favorites of the year list!

It also must be said that this book has incredible hugs in it, and I appreciate that so much!

5/5 stars!

This book was a really enjoyable read and a great addition to the Wonder Boys series. I am loving this group of friends!

Ben doesn’t have much game, but he’s handsome and awkward and sweet and oh-so-endearing! He and Allie both had so many talents that they just weren’t utilizing and they had a lot of growth and self-discovery throughout the book.

I love that their friendship and the beginning of their relationship wasn’t always something spectacular, but was a casual, comfortable togetherness. The way they became friends and supported and built each other up was sweet.

Dana is really good at combining lots of tropes and making it such a unique story that doesn’t follow a typical formula for any trope. The story and characters were really relatable and fun and there were so many great, memorable moments!

Thank you to the author for the eARC. All opinions are my own. I’m really excited for Cam’s story!

I absolutely adored Ben in the first book of this series. I was so stoked for his own book but I was worried that his love interest wouldn’t be good enough for him. Oh how I loved Allie though! She was such a dynamic character and she really developed as the story progressed. Those two together are perfection! I am so excited for the rest of the Wonder Boy books!
Also, I would not recommend reading this book in public because I giggled out loud more than once during this book! My husband asked what was so funny and my actual response was “This book! I love this author!” She is definitely an auto read author for me!

“Where did you come from wonder boy?”
“The grocery store,” he replied, leaning into a touch. “Don’t you remember?”

This book was long, but man was it cute, funny, and deep! Dana knows how to take a sidekick from another story and make him the leading man we wanted. I could totally see Ben out in the real world! Sweet. Quiet. Shy. But secretly strong. Caring. Observant. He and Allie needed each other. They helped each other grow stronger. And I loved that!

Allie also gave me strong Julia Roberts in “Runaway Bride” vibes when she said she didn’t know herself or what she liked anymore. I kept seeing the scene in that movie where she comes and says “eggs Benedict. I love eggs Benedict.” Only Allie loved cheese pizza! Hot chocolate. And Ben!

It’s not too late to start this awesome fall read. It has trick-or-treating, thanksgiving, and Christmas all included.

My favorite highlights:
🎃ninja turtles 🐢
🎃rock climbing 🧗‍♀️
🎃o’Rilley’s Game Center - ball pit and laser tag
🎃Allie sick 🤒
🎃Thanksgiving at Allie’s
🎃Jake the Snake
🎃the grocery store meet cutes
🎃Madi’s intervention
🎃The first kiss 💋
🎃 Christmas at the Nakamura’s

Ben and Allie were a sweet couple. I enjoyed watching their initial meeting and starting to dive into their characters, discovering who they were. Both of these two are pretty timid and shy. They have their own insecurities and due to those, they are a little lost in what direction to go in life. But I really liked watching how their meeting put them on a path, separately and together (I know that sounds weird but you'll have to read the book to understand) to discovering more about themselves.

I liked watching the friendship develop between these two and the trust they were able to build. Of course they start a fake relationship because of some humorous and possibly frustrating matchmaking happening. But they were open and honest with each other which I really liked.

They try a few schemes together that don't quite pan out in the way they thought it would but in the end worked out for the best! I liked seeing them have to struggle and figure out who they really were and what they really wanted. Life isn't always a fairytale and magical and easy. There are ups and downs and struggles and that is how we learn and grow.

The sweet romance and love story was fun and had me cheering for these two to figure out everything so they could be together! I love a good fake relationship story and watching it turn into a real romance.

I really enjoyed watching the friendships of The Wonder Boys (and girl) and seeing them rally around each other. I haven't read the previous book but have it on my shelf to do so and I'm looking forward to the other Wonder Boys' stories.

Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses and nothing more.

My own personal copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I loved this book and if you’re looking for the perfect seasonal read look no further!
This book was so cute! We didn’t see quite as much of the other Wonder Boys but we still got little bits of their personalities. It was so fun to learn more about Ben and meet the Grocery Girl! Loved this book and it made me even more excited for the rest of the series! We can never have too much wonder boys! But back to this book.
Ben is just the sweetest! He’s tender and a helper. Not your typical hero but you can’t help but love him!
I’ll admit that it took me a minute to warm up to Grocery girl, Allie. I wanted to like her mainly because of how much Ben did! I mean, he was halfway in love with someone who’s name he didn’t even know! It was fun to watch their relationship grow.
Long story short don’t wait to read this book! Then we can impatiently wait together for Cam & Kit’s stories!

What a sweet story! Ben is the perfect book boyfriend! Dana did an awesome job of setting up and building their relationship.

This was a fun and relatable story about family, friends, good intentions and finding yourself.

After admiring her from afar Ben finally meets and talks to the “Grocery Girl”. Unfortunately she has just sworn off dating. Because of her matchmaking mother and her jealous ex boyfriend, Ben finds himself in a fake dating relationship with Allie.

As they become friends and get to know one another it’s obvious that they were meant to be. But each are unwilling to risk losing their friendship if they make their deeper feelings known.

Clean sweet romance.
Fake Relationship

Finding yourself.

Highly recommended.

Super fun and good read!

“But for now, she really just wanted to kiss him. She had a whole month to make up for, and Ben seemed happy to help her rectify the situation.
“I told you they’d make up.”
“Pretty sure you mean make out.””

Ben doesn’t think anyone sees him and Allie doesn’t know what she likes or who she really is. After grocery shopping at the same time and place for months and secretly watching for the other, they finally run into each other and their friendship a.k.a fake dating takes off. They help each other and slowly but surely realize they want more than what they have.

I adore Ben and how sweet he is. He’s the quiet observer that sees the little things and has the big heart to help. He is great for Allie and she, in return, helps him realize his dreams too. I loved their story but also wanted to hit them on the head at times and say don’t hurt each other.

Getting to see more of the Wonder Boys was great too! I love how their relationships started and how they are moving forward.

Dana LeCheminant is a great author who can pull her readers in and keep them invested in her books to the end. At the end of this book, I wished even more that I was member of the Wonder Boy group.

Definitely read this if you love stories of strangers to friends and eventually lovers, fake dating, great characters and sweet kisses!

We get Ben’s story in Love in Writing and let me tell you, the second installment of the Wonder Boys series is just as great as the first!
Ben is quiet and reserved and hasn’t had much experience dating. Allie has had way too much experience dating and doesn’t know who she is outside of a relationship. Enter a friendship and then a fake relationship and we see them both blossom in each other’s light. He’s so patient and grounds her and she’s a breath of fresh air for him.

Things I loved:
☕️ Ben’s hot chocolate skills/taking care of Allie while she’s sick
☕️ Holiday scenes. We get Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas in this book!
☕️ Dreamy kisses!
☕️ More Wonder Boys bromance
☕️ The making of Menace Unknown
☕️ The treehouse

This book can definitely be read as a standalone but you’ll appreciate the friendship of the Wonder Boys more if you read Love on Camera first. Side note: I love that this series revolves around a group of male friends. So unique in this genre!

I had the wonderful opportunity to read an ARC of this book. All opinions are always my own.

*Sigh* this was one of the most dreamy books I’ve read recently. I loved that Ben is a unique hero- he’s unsure of himself and is shy. He doesn’t know what he’s doing in life (Relatable!). He’s crushed on Allie from afar and then they finally meet! I love how their friendship develops and all the fun things they do together. At times I wanted to shake Allie because Ben was so obviously perfect for her the whole time. However she had some stuff she needed to work through.

I feel like a lot of book series are centered around female friend groups and something that I’ve loved to see with this series is the male friend group. I loved how Allie fit right in with the Wonder Boys and Madi.

It was also fun to see Madi and Oliver again and of course the other wonder boys. I loved this book and you should definitely read it!!

I loved this book! It was the perfect closed door romance, and it gave all of the fall feels! I loved Ben and Allie together, and I always love the fake-dating trope. I'm not the biggest fan of third person writing, but the story and characters were so good that it didn't bother me.

These Wonder Boys know how to fake date and turn it into something more! We saw a little bit of Ben in Love on Camera and got a glimpse of his awkward shyness. I adore how sweet he is even when Allie can be so frustrating for him. That's not to take away from Allie, I liked her and loved her most when she was less serious and more playful, which I feel Ben brought out in her.
The thing I LOVED most about this book is the whole "Wonder Boy" gang vibe and how they take in "lost and lonely" souls as their own. They show them what it feels like to belong and I am so here for that! I am a fan of this series and can't wait to see where things go for Cam & Kip!

Sweet, Fun Romcom

I am loving this book series, and the second book, Love In Writing, did not disappoint. Ben and Allie both have different challenges they are facing and they need to learn more about themselves and what they want out of life. I love how they were so supportive of each other. Ben, in particular is such an adorable hero as he encourages Allie without pushing her into anything she doesn’t want. They both learn to get out of their comfort zone not just to help others, but also to reach for their own dreams. This was such a sweet and romantic story of self-discovery, true friendship, courage, and love.

The Wonder Boys series is so much fun! And I already love all the characters even though two haven’t gotten their own book yet. But I already know those will be amazing too. Love in Writing though!! I don’t think I’ve ever related more to the main guy in a book. He’s an introvert! And he’s struggles with talking to people. And he feels like no one really sees him. He was just a very understandable character. I liked Allie’s self discovery journey and seeing them both grow and figure out what they wanted.
The boy’s friend group is awesome. I love books that follow each character in a group of friends. Most of them seem to be about girls so having the group of guys that have been friends for years and now each get their own relationship/story is so fun!
I really like the first book but this one’s my favorite so far!
Ben is the sweetest MMC ever. I love him so much, he’s just perfect!! 😍 And i really enjoyed Allie’s character too, my only issue with her was with the conflict. I was upset at how she handled it. But they worked it out in the end and the ending was super cute!

Tropes and things:

Friends to love
Fake dating
Pining
Takes care of her when sick
Laser tag
Friend group that all care for each other

I loved this story, Ben was the sweetest and I enjoyed how in depth it went and showed a side not seen in the first book. The romance was sweet and I enjoyed the entire ride.
The thing that stands out for me in this series is the characters. They feel like real people. The group of friends feel like I could meet them in real life and hang out with them. This author knows how to craft great characters.

I Want More!

I love getting to know Ben, he’s the quietest of the Wonder Boys. I loved the hidden depths to his character and how observant he is. I loved Allie most of the time. They were adorable together.
My favorite scenes were Thanksgiving, and playing laser tag at the fun center.
It was really fun to get to know the other Wonder Boys too. I love how these stories build on each other. They can be read independently, but each story gives you a glimpse into each of the other characters and really makes me want to figure out what makes them tick. I’m dying to learn more about Kit and apparently he’s going to be the last story!
My only complaint is a few loose ends. This book needs an epilogue! Please write us an epilogue!

Another great Wonder Boys romance! I loved Ben and his precious personality. Allie’s character was harder for me to relate to than Madi’s (Love on Camera).

Love in Writing included some of my favorite (but unrealistic) tropes. I love a good fake romance! I love the subtrope of literally falling on each other. It definitely builds chemistry; however, Ben and Allie might benefit from adding yoga to their workouts to improve balance. 😂 I also enjoy the “sick/caretaker” trope and it helps us see how sweet Ben is.

I was glad Dana LeCheminant included plenty of scenes with the other wonderful Wonder Boys and of course Madi! 🥰
