WRECKAGE: From Power to Pariah

Rate this book
At 7.30 p.m. on 12 May 2016 Sandeep Khinda was the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal accident that left two men dead. No other vehicle was involved and the reason for the accident was not obvious at the time.

Sandeep was then the personal secretary to His Holiness Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh, and de facto second in command of the Sant Nirankari a global movement with 3,000 centres and millions of followers worldwide.

Before the accident, Sandeep enjoyed a charmed life – unimpeachable power in the Mission, a successful property business and an idyllic family life. But behind the scenes the changes he had made to the Mission’s structure, processes and personnel had earned him powerful enemies.

Following the accident, rumours began to circulate that Sandeep had deliberately orchestrated the smash and that, far from it being a tragic accident, it was in fact murder. Sandeep’s world collapsed. He was thrown out of the Mission and its administration, frozen out of the family, and his children were kept from him.

A year later Sandeep decided to file a High Court petition in the UK to gain access to his children and it was then that his wife Samta and her family turned the full force of their considerable power against charging him with a litany of false crimes. Caught in the clutches of the Indian justice system, Sandeep was now locked in a battle for his very life.

Eventually, Sandeep was released, and he was able to flee India and the threat of life imprisonment. Now, he is finally ready to tell his story.

Wreckage is an extraordinary memoir of sacrifice, loss, betrayal, corruption and greed, but also a testament to the power of faith and unbroken love. It is the story of a life changed in the blink of an eye . . . and the immense possibilities unleashed by faith restored.

Being a follower of the sant nirankari mission/mandal, I've constantly wondered about what happened on May 12th 2016, when Baba ji died in the accident. Since that day, the conspiracy that it was a murder has been rampant in the mission and not once have they said outright that this is just an accident and to stop spreading lies and misinformation about the accident. The conspiracy continues to spread unchecked and this shows how low the mission has got.

It is about time that Sunny gave his side of the whole situation and most of all, he gives it as objectively as possible, with little to no bias and even has supported evidence. It is very detailed and is a real page turner. Sunny's account of the accident is explained thoroughly with the investigation report that it is an accident and that Baba ji and Avneet died because they were not wearing their seatbelt. Anyone with knowledge about safety mechanisms will see how this makes complete sense. While the mission and Baba ji's family has provided ZERO proof with their claims that it is a murder.

Reading the way Sunny has been treated is a complete shock for me and disturbs me. I didn't know he was tortured and wrongfully imprisoned, that his wife Samta stopped him from seeing his kids and most of all, that majority of the family associated to Baba ji outcasted him. This family continues to have the leadership of the mission and this is after they are not practicing the mission's teachings of tolerance, forgiveness, compassion etc. It is absurd that people think that the 3 daughters of Baba ji are holy, this book shows their reality, their cruelty and hatred and how power-hungry they really are. If they can harm someone in their own family like Sunny, it can only be imagined what they can do to someone else. It is not just Sunny that they harmed but even Pujya Mata ji was forced to be the guru/leader of the mission whilst battling stage 4 ovarian cancer, where is the humanity in that? how could any member of the family or the mission allow this? What a horrible game was played and is in play today.

The mission and its current leader talk about humanity, but the book shows us how they lack humanity and have completely departed from Baba ji's teachings. They are hypocrites of the highest order. Shame on them. Where is the humanity in keeping a father away from his kids? Where is the humanity in forcing someone to sign away their property? Where is humanity in torturing Sunny and wanting him dead? Shame on them for spitting on the legacy of Baba ji. They are living a lavish lifestyle because of the money that innocent devotees have donated, the mandal and the leader and family do not deserve a single paisa.

The book has opened my eyes on the corruption of the mission that is led by the 'holy' family. The current leader and her family do not deserve to be leading the mission after the revelations in this book. When I read the affidavit signed by Vivek, who was the passenger in the car, nobody should trust Baba ji's daughters and family who tried to force Vivek to lie, threatened him, they tried to bribe him and how horrible of them to force him to go to india when his wife was battling cancer. The mission's history shows how Baba ji forgave his own guru and father's assassination but his own daughters can't forgive the driver or passenger of the accident that led to Baba ji's death. That tells you everything you need to know about the current leader of the mission and how little they practice the teachings.

Sunny's children deserve to read this book and get out of that toxic cult environment that their mom and family have created and maintained with their lies and deceit. This 'holy' family deserves to be investigated into and their dodgy transactions need to be brought to the public light by every country's government that the mission operates in.

The book shows the tragedy of being part of a movement that turns into a cult, it shows the tragedy of marrying into an influential family, it shows the tragedy of abandoning the teachings of Baba ji. It shows that Baba ji never named a successor, which makes the current leader a total fraud. It's only about money and power for baba ji's daughters and family as this memoir details very well.

Thank you Sunny for writing this book and telling your side, my many unanswered questions were answered here and I am sure you will one day be reunited with your children. It must have been painful to revisit everything you have gone through. Your children deserve to be in the safe hands of their father. You and your friends and family that stood with you are strong and dealt with all this with dignity. It is not easy to be silent when there is acts of injustice upon injustice.

This book should be read by anybody that has a small association with the sant nirankari mission, with an open mind like Baba ji taught us because everyone deserves to tell their side of the story. If devotees in the sant nirankari mission cannot read this with an open mind then this mission is a cult that bolsters blind faith and obedience and is no longer a mission of truth and brotherhood. It’s sad to say but Baba ji’s sant nirankari mission died with him on 12 May 2016. I feel deceived by the mission and its leaders and I'm sure you will feel the same too after reading this memoir.

As a Nirankari myself I was aware of the car accident that took place on May 12, 2016. I heard many rumours about what happened and while I may have believed them I kept an open mind. The driver of the vehicle, Sunny, has been ostracized and unable to tell his side. He had no choice but to write this book and I commend him on that. While names are mentioned I don't consider anyone being "thrown under the bus". The writing style is very easy to follow and having thought it would mainly focus on prior to the accident, there is more than 50% of what followed after the accident. There are politics in every religion but when you are taught values and then find out the people who instill these values do not necessarily practice what they preach makes me think twice. I identify as a human being and the day we lost our Spiritual Leader in that fateful accident is the day my faith in God was questioned. Sunny's book is full of "miracles" in my opinion making me believe God was on his side during the ordeal. It breaks my heart that he has to live without his children for an unknown amount of time, I can also relate to this, and do not agree with it at all. To ostracize him from the mission is one thing but to turn his children against him is heartbreaking!

While I knew the characters and could relate to the story, I do think that this is a book for anyone who has ever been punished for a mistake/accident. It is unfortunate that lives were lost but had someone else been at the wheel it may have been the same outcome. God had a plan and the books details allow the readers to be the judge and jury and not have to follow a crowd that has not heard from the horse's mouth. Thank you to Sunny for being brave enough to share your story and I pray that you are reunited with your children when the time is right for them and you.

Emotional and riveting read!

Character is the moral strength to do the right thing, even when it costs more than you want to pay.

As someone who has been a follower of this mission since childhood, it’s hard to fully accept that everything detailed in the biography is true. If it is genuine, it should be shared with all the followers. Their trust and faith in the mission are at stake.

I believe that followers will need more than just a biography to be convinced. I am truly sorry for the difficulties you’ve faced and continue to face. I understand that your book focuses on your personal experiences and your family rather than the mission itself. However, I believe you owe it to the devotees to provide more proof and details about the mission, especially given your long history with it.

Deeply moving

Easy to read, factual and to the point. This book evoked a range of emotions for me. It's a harrowing ordeal and a story worth reading. Good luck to Sunny and hope his children come looking for him one day if they havnt already.

Parental alienation is domestic terrorism.
Real women don’t alienate their children from their father.
