Mattie is exasperated by her surly Protector who won’t say two words to her. Grath keeps his guard up around the curvy little female because he wants her but knows he can’t have her.
Dr. Mattie Porter has landed her dream job as a Xeno-Cultural Anthropologist with the Kindred, but she has one very big problem—a seven-foot-tall, grumpy, growly warrior named Grath. The huge Hybrid has been assigned to her as her Protector—a kind of bodyguard to keep her safe on alien planets. But he’s a surly bastard who won’t even talk to Mattie if he can help it!
Grath is a Triple-Hybrid, a male with Beast, Blood, and Flame Kindred strains in his DNA. This makes him a formidable warrior, but also ensures he won’t be able to bond with a female, which leaves him with a problem—he’s desperately attracted to the tiny, curvy Earth female he’s been assigned to Protect. But he knows he has to keep her at arm’s length to avoid pain and heartache.
It seems Grath and Mattie will never get along…but then Mattie needs a date for the Holidays. So now they’re going to her hometown to try and fool her family into thinking they’re engaged. But fake-dating during the Holidays isn’t without its pitfalls and neither of them knows that even in the quiet little town of Christmasville, danger is stalking Mattie.
Can Grath keep Mattie safe? Will they win the Christmas Cookie Bake-off? And will both of them lose their hearts when they finally let their guards down? To find out you’ll have to read this Grump and Sunshine, Enemies to Lovers, Fake Dating, hot Alien Warrior romance…Faking it with the Hybrid!
Author's Note--The Hybrid Kindred Chronicles are stand alone novels set in the Kindred Universe. They tell the stories of Kindred warriors who carry the DNA of two or more branches of the Kindred Family Tree. Often, this makes it difficult for them to Bond with a woman and call a Bride. But when the Goddess intervenes, anything is possible.
As always, if you’re new to the Kindred Universe and want to start at the very beginning, the first book in my main series, Claimed, is a free download everywhere. Hugs and Happy Reading! Evangeline Anderson
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
I love this new installment of the Kindred Tales. In this particular edition, we actually stay on Earth this time, while Grath and Mattie try to convince her parents they are indeed a couple at Christmas time. This story brings all the holiday feelings along with a newly discovered love and I felt like Christmas came early by reading it. Loved it!!!.

As the introduction told, Mattie is an anthropologist assigned to the Kindred. Because her job entails visiting alien planets, she is assigned Grath as a Protector, a Hybrid Kindred, to keep her safe. The plot starts with a visit to Mattie’s own hometown on Earth with Grath also going in the role of a fake fiancée. Author Evangeline Anderson has written this one so realistically that any woman who has ever been bullied or left out by the Popular Kids in high school can see herself as Mattie. Danger, angst, and steam stream throughout its pages. Laugh out loud moments also exist, especially during the cookie contest. I certainly enjoyed reading Faking It with the Hybrid. Because it is set in an American city, it felt so real to me that I could see it happening in my city. Although others have been set on Earth, they also had alien worlds involved as well. But here the supporting characters exist on Earth, family and personal friends and enemies. With only three scenes in the entire novel set on the Kindred ship, I could easily feel the Hometown USA set. Faking It with the Hybrid is definitely one of my favorite Kindred Tales.

Dr. Madeline (Mattie) Porter is a Xeno-Cultural Anthropologist and very much wants to travel to a Class 3 planet that only allows mated pairs to visit. Mattie and her protector, Grath, take off on a much closer mission to Earth to see if they can convince Mattie’s family that they are a couple.
I thoroughly enjoyed how Grath interacted and tried to integrate into Mattie’s family and human Christmas festivities. Christmas can be a stressful time for anyone, but Mattie must try and pull off a fake relationship while also dealing with high school trauma. Grath and Mattie have a considerable amount of emotional baggage to unpack and sort through. Both their personal development processes were fraught with trauma, self-doubt, and self-loathing. Read Faking it with the Hybrid to find out how Mattie and Grath help each other and reach relationship status.
This is a fun story that had me running through all the emotions and laughing aloud. Faking it with the Hybrid has great characters, a fast-moving plot, and a happily-for-now ending. I hope we see Mattie and Grath in future books.
A simply wonderful addition to series, wonderful characters and great scenario This is a simply wonderful read that you will love every moment of and I guarantee that once you begin reading you will find it impossible to put down till you reach the last page. Dr Mattie has always wanted to travel to class 3 planet however only mated pairs are allowed. Grath is on a mission and meets Mattie at Christmas which is a stressful time but they will endeavour to ensure that their relationship is realistic to those that are watching and even though it is not always easy their interactions with each other begin to become easier. I guarantee that you will enjoy this book and you will love every moment of this simply wonderful book, this is a wonderful plot and you will enjoy every single moment of this book. I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

I wanted to get my to-read list to 60 instead of 78, so I bought this book.
I prefer Evangeline's stories set on another planet. This one was set on boring ole Earth, but since I had read the blurb, I knew what I was going in for.
Grath is Madeline's protector, but they can't seem to get along. For the next planet Madeline wants to go to, they must convincingly act as a bonded couple. To see if they can carry off the ruse successfully, Commander Sylvan sends them to earth to convince her family that they're together--killing two birds with one stone as Madeline's embarassed to come home single for the holidays.
While participating in Christmas activities, they realize their feelings for each other aren't a sham.
I wish we learned more about Grath. The villain was truly crazy and I wasn't expecting that!
Now that I've read this wonderful story the cover makes sense. This author has so much imagination, you can see the movie in your head. The Alien men with their particular differences make for such an entertaining story. This story was mostly set on Earth rather than out in the Universe. Mattie is a Xeno-Cultural Anthropologist, to visit other planets she needs a protector. She's assigned Grath and these two antagonise each other, you just know sparks are sure to fly. She goes home for Christmas and Grath is her fake boyfriend to keep her family happy. She didn't expect the chemistry to virtually fry her. I enjoyed the look into her past, her high schools and the bullies. The bullies who hadn't changed in this small town even as adults. There is a misunderstanding leaving Mattie alone, she's in danger. Will the Goddess be able to get Grath to her in time? A wonderful story, I aways love the Kindred.
I loved reading this book and was hooked from the start. It’s well written, entertaining and guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit. The characters are well detailed, Mattie is an anthropologist working with the kindred and Grath is her surly protector who seems to want to be anywhere else than with her. The storyline and world building are excellent. Mattie has to go home for Christmas and she has to take Grath with her as her fiancé. Fake dating is all well and good until things start to feel real and feelings become involved. Unfortunately Mattie isn’t safe and danger stalks her. Grath needs to be on the ball to keep Mattie safe, can he do that and them have their happily ever after ending? You will have to read to find out.

Omg! This story has so many twists and turns. It involves a human woman Mattie who works and lives on the Kindred Mother Ship who is assigned a Kindred Protector named Grath. Upon meeting he felt a tingle go up his arm which in his culture meant a possible mate. Knowing he couldn't bond with anyone because he was a hybrid, and had already tried once 10 cycles before and the bond failed he was determined to keep his distance and heart closed when it concerned Mattie. Now with the prospect of a mission where they would have to fake being a mated pair, they first try their charade on Mattie's family while visiting for the Christmas holiday. Unbeknownst to everyone things get out of hand and a dangerous situation, possibly death is one of them. Wow! This story was so exciting and intense.
Dr. Mattie Porter and her appointed Kindred protector, Grath have been at odds since day one. When she wants to interact with the inhabitants of a rigid society on a distant world, they would have to be a believable mated couple. It is decided that to practice "being a couple", Mattie and Grath spend the holidays together with her family in Christmasville, Vermont. Unexpected surprises mixed with unpleasant memories add to the drama of the season while navigating how to react to the strong emotional attraction to each other the more time spent together brings. A great romantic holiday story that packs a strong punch! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Love this Christmas inspired Kindred story. Mattie is a doctor in Xeno-Cultural Anthropology. Which means she studies alien cultures. Which can be a dangerous job. But she is the type of woman that wants to push and see what she can do and accomplish. Too bad her protector is a beyond grumpy Kindred hybrid. Can Christmas in her hometown change the grumpy male or will it push him too far? Filled with holiday cheer and family love. The two will find some interesting problems and some dangerous ones too.
Another fantastic addition to this amazing series. I really enjoyed the enemies to lovers dynamic between Grath and Mattie. This story brings all the holiday feelings along with plenty of twists and turn to keep you hooked from beginning to end. Overall a great read. Can't wait for the next book in this great series. I received a free copy via Booksprout and as always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
The latest outing from Ms. Anderson is a sweet (Christmasville!), sexy (hybrid Kindred loves a smart curvy girl) and twisted (the villain-seriously TWISTED) Christmas story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mattie is strong and capable and Grath is a triple Kindred who has never fully manifested his flame. Of course, there is the usual misunderstandings but the ending is completely satisfying and the story made for a light holiday read.

Thoroughly enjoyed the enemies to lovers dynamic between Mattie and Grath. I really loved how headstrong they both were and how they went after what they truly wanted without a care in the world… albeit, a few hiccups occur.
What really makes this book amazing is just how the author crafts the story around Earth and not completely on the Mother Ship or another planet. Absolutely an amazing read.
I received an ARC via BookSprout in exchange for my honest review.
Another awesome story from Evangeline. Mattie going to Earth, Christmassville oh wow, and family traditions are always fun to go through. Not really any back and forth kind of petty jokes with each other, funny escapades that they might experience, just seemed to be lacking something to me. Loved Mattie and Grath, the trio combination is fun to learn about. The hybrids always keep ya guessing. Cant wait to see which mothership the next one comes from.
Seriously, what happened ?! I was so not in the mood for a straight up Christmas book . . . So disappointing . . . I thoroughly enjoy her villains along with the planet quests. . You don't get either in this book . . . Like why?! Seriously, spoiler Earth is there planet quest and the villains where so rushed . . . Her books are my most anticipated releases and this one is somehow worse than The Darvel Exploratory Systems 3rd book Snows of Aturia
I liked this story. The authors characters are never perfect and I love all the emotion they have. It always bubbles up between them and creates tension. There is always a lot of dirty talk and sex scenes. This book didn't disappoint here. Also the town that it took place in made a very romantic back drop. I loved it.
Just to warn you there is very gruesome scene in it.
I really loved this book so much. It was such a feel good christmas story. I felt like I was watching a hallmark movie in my head as I read this book. I liked that we got to see the kindred interact on Earth more and with the family. I just loved Grath and Mattie together. Definitely a book so good I could reread it.

I liked chapter 13 and 14 and 15 about the mistletoe and the bake off and the ocean sandy snowballs very funny and I laughed straight away instead of reading 📚the book. I like the names of the all characters in the book very much. I find myself in trance to read more of the book just because of chapter 13 and do sometimes feel that way in myself about Evangeline Anderson books. I enjoyed reading 📚 chapters 35 towards 49. I love 💘the tile of the book and I liked the idea 💡of got flame kinder warriors. I would like to read other book like book two this book. I would like to read about Anne and Garth brother in law. I still would love 💘to read other back in time kindred warriors book very much. I can't wait to read more books 📚by Evangeline Anderson in the new year.

I’m trying to read this book. I know it’s fantasy , but this ireads like hallmark movie meeting foul mouthed kindred. And Mattie is almost too stupid to live….. and every male seems to “love” her. The pet name little girl was annoying and cringe worthy. I like the space aspect of kindred stories this was too hallmark for me. I’ll stick with “healing the broken” or “falling for kindred clause.”
Evangeline Anderson has done a great job with this book taking with the hybrid you definitely feel the connection between the main characters the story plot is so engaging and tantalizing your Drew in from the first chapters of the book the sexual chemistry is off the charts smoking hot I highly recommend it is a one of a kindred book series.
Sweet and "steamy" in a surprising way, Faking it with the Hybrid has the perfect holiday sweetness you need, the twists you expect from Ms. Anderson and her Kindred books, and the tantalizing yumminess you must have in any good book. Give it a read and enjoy the steamy and sweet read!
I just adore these Kindred stories, and this one didn't disappoint. The storyline is well written and filled with action and adventure. I can't wait for the next book. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
It had me from beginning to the end. I couldn’t put down. Two unexpected turns in their past that left him hesitant to be with her and Mattie tormented. A crazy twist to the story you won’t see coming. Loved it.
This book was different than most of the previous Kindred books. This time, instead of going to a different planet with weird customs almost everything happens here on Earth.
Another great installment in the Kindred Tales Series. Evangeline Anderson creates another amazing world with kick ass MFC and drool worthy MMC. I could not put the book down and finished it in one day. As always there is alway plenty of delicious heat. It is easy to become addicted to this series.
I like a certain kind of kindred and this isn’t it. I like the virgins. Not the ones have loved and lost. Also, this is one of the books filled with “baby” and “little girl”. 🙄 It is repetitive and annoying, to me. Maybe it is for you.
I really loved this couple but the author seems to be making the sex scenes worse. In earlier books they were steamy with dirty talk but not cheesy with it. This one was just horrible, like porn. I mean was this one written for men or what?
