Noah unexpectedly finds herself with custody of her niece after her brother’s arrest. She has no maternal instinct but will do anything to keep her niece out of the State’s care. Logan's newly widowed, but determined to stay afloat despite his grief threatening to drown him. Finding a job is proving challenging for the single father.
With nothing left tying him to California and little savings remaining, he moves East to Alexandria, Kentucky. The quintessential Southern small town and the support of his family may be the fresh start he and his daughter need.
Noah has everything to provide for her niece, but she’s clueless about child-rearing. Logan's broke, but being a girl dad is in his DNA. A friendship between the two forms through their young girls’ playdates. When Noah finds out Logan’s being evicted, she has an idea: he and his daughter can move into her large home, and in exchange, Logan will teach her to care for her niece. He gets a place to live while he continues his job search, and she’ll learn the skills to be the guardian her niece deserves.
A slow-burning romance ignites between the new roommates as they face the past tragedies that stand to ruin their futures. Does choosing yourself now negate everything you loved in the past? Noah and Logan have unthinkable choices to make, but nothing left to lose.
Maria Patrick is a neurodivergent contemporary fiction and romance author. She writes messy, imperfect characters. Her stories are marked by authentic difficulties readers relate to and counterbalanced with steamy romance.
Maria was born and raised in Kentucky, where she and her husband (high school sweetheart) still live. Their home is full of the love and unending dog hair of their three boys. When she’s not writing or obsessively reading, Maria loves to explore new places and connect with fellow booklovers.
I had the amazing opportunity to be an alpha reader for this book! I fell in love with Noah and Logan so quickly! Noah is so strong and compassionate. She loves her stupid brother to a fault and does everything to help her niece feel loved and safe. Logan is so sweet and sensitive. He’s an amazing dad to the cutest little girl! He’s a total dilf. And the two of them are perfect together! I loved their banter and the slow burn is 🔥 This book touches on some sensitive topics (addiction, death of a loved one) and was so heart breaking in the best ways. You’re definitely going to want to add this book to your want to read list and keep an eye out for it’s release!!!
I had the privilege of being an ARC for this novel and I have so many feelings to share of this story!
First of all, let me start by telling you all a little bit about this book. It’s a Dual POV where you follow Noah, a single woman who has her dream job and dream house but spends her evenings alone until one day her world is flip upside down when she learns that her brother was in jail and Noah was the only family, Rainey (Noah’s Niece), had to care for her.
Noah is happy to be there for her brother in any ways that she can, especially when it came to Rainey’s well-being. She starts the process of being her temporary caregiver while her brother is sorting through his issues in Jail. This leads us to the second main character, Logan.
Logan is a newly widowed Dad who made the move to Kentucky from California after his wife passed away. Him and his daughter Maggie end up moving in with his Aunt & Uncle (Sweetest humans ever!) and Noah quickly becomes a new friend when they keep bumping into one another. Rainey & Maggie instantly connect and build a inseparable bond, which has Noah & Logan planning play dates together.
But things go from friends to “more” pretty quickly when Logan’s plans don’t go to plan as he had hoped for. Noah, forever kind and giving, offers a deal to Logan that will not only help her with Rainey but will offer him and Maggie the help they need to get back on their feet. But can they manage to stay friends after all? Even through some scary events?
You have to read to find out!!!! And trust me, it’s worth the read. Now let me dish some of my feels without spoiling!
I adore Noah! I instantly related to her because 1) I’d do anything for my family and I have a similar, not as intense, of a relationship with my brother. I know how it feels to want to help your family and go through the things she does. It broke my heart for her but also made her into a character I fell in love with. She’s kind, giving, & witty which brings some humor to the story. I truly enjoyed getting to know her.
Now Logan, he made me Swoon! He was not toxic in any way! In fact, he was absolutely REAL and relatable and I loved everything about Logan! He wasn’t some built muscular guy here to sweep a woman off her feet. He was more of a nerdy awkward skinny Dad with glasses who knows how to show women the respect they deserve! To me, that’s attractive! Logan was a character you fall for and enjoy watching him grow through out the story.
The side characters like Maggie and Rainey along with Logan’s Aunt & Uncle, Noah’s bestie, Logan’s new found guy friends; you learn to adore them as they show up through out the story.
You have to love a slow burn that has MORE than just romance. This story contains LIFE! Real things that people have the deal with and go through daily and Marie did a fabulous job creating such a heart wrenching yet heart warming story!
Hands down this is one of my favorite reads this year and I am just tickled to had been picked to read this story before it’s published. Let me tell you right now, get your hands on this one of a kind story. 🥰♥️

Wow. It took me about 10 pages to be hooked completely into this story line. I had no idea what I was getting into with this read, as I prefer to go into books blindly, and I’m so glad I did.
This one was heart wrenching, beautiful, romantic and painful all at the same time. I truly don’t want to spoil the plot, so to be general, this is a friends to lovers book set in the most non traditional circumstances you can imagine. The characters in this book all have a ton of baggage and in finding each other, are able to help work through some really tough circumstances. It’s a slow build love story set inside a really realistic look at family trauma and survival, with kids at the heart who are so sweet together. I finished reading this on a plane and was sobbing (don’t be me.)
I loved this book. For me, it brought out some painful buried feelings and memories, but all in sort of a cathartic way. This stole a place in my heart.

✨ the good ✨
I’m not sure I’m emotionally ready to write this review. This book kept me up way past my bedtime last night as I was desperate to find out how Logan and Noah’s story ended. And it was worth me looking like a crackhead this morning. This story was beautiful. From the sad and the heartbreaking to the wonderful and happy, this book made me feel as if my heart was about to burst out of my chest like that thing in Alien but, you know, just a little less violent.
Logan and Noah meet when Logan moves to Alexandria, Kentucky to be closer to his family after the death of his wife. Noah has just taken in guardianship of her six year old niece after her brother ends up in prison for the umpteenth time. Both at some pretty heartbreaking and challenging crossroads in their lives, they find solace in each other and become great friends.
I seriously loved everything about these characters and their amazing friendship. The fact that they were so open and honest with one another about everything was so refreshing, and I loved how they gave each other time to figure out their feelings, rather than just jumping straight in and regretting everything later.
The book tackled the subject of grief and the foster care/guardianship situation in such a respectful and thought provoking way. I loved seeing both characters growth throughout the story as they tried to tackle the life changing situations that they found themselves in. The relationships both Logan and Noah had with Maggie and Rainey was incredible, the found family aspect of this story put the biggest smile on my face.
This was an incredible story by a very talented author, I cannot wait to read what comes next from her. Could it maybe, possibly be Izabeth and Paul’s story?? Please?
✨ the bad ✨
Dunbar. The amount of frustration I felt toward this bloke was unreal.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.
✨ overall thoughts: thought provoking and beautiful ✨ heat level: 🔥🔥 ✨ star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Emotional, heartfelt, beautiful and touching. Those are some words that you will feel while reading this book. Maria did a great job with her debut novel, she made me feel all the fees.
I was hooked from the beginning and intrigued into Noah & Logan's story. I felt it developed nicely, the pace of their love story was very believable. The touchy subjects that Patrick brings into this book have been done delicately with the utmost realism to them. The reactions of the characters fit perfectly with each event.
Noah and Logan are two strong as hell characters that have been through hell and back, yet find peace and comfort in eachother, it is truly beautiful to see. They are both so lovable and relatable. Rainey oh Rainey that sassy little six year old, I just fell in love with her completely. She didn't deserve anything that happened to her, poor baby. The side characters are honestly really great, I would kill for friends like that.
This was a very well written book, the only thing it might have been a bit lengthy, where some things I could've done without. Fantastic job Maria ❤️
If you're looking for a beautiful, emotional, touching book filled with the most lovable and relatable characters definitely give this one a try!

Then this book is perfect for you. I love taking the time to read a romance novel. Especially ones that are realistic. (Even though I’m not the romance type sometimes😂) I love the chemistry between Noah and Logan. And how they started out as friends first. Friends to Lovers is the sweetest trope out of them all, in my opinion.
Thank you @mariapatrickwrites for writing this book and allowing me to read this! I very much enjoyed it.
I live in Kentucky! I am so glad to finally found a book that is set in my home state. It makes it feel realistic.
I was able to beta read this book from debut author Maria Patrick.
The story is told in dual POV of Noah and Logan. The two characters feel genuine as they aren’t perfect and have flaws, while going through real and heartbreaking challenges. One of my favorite parts was seeing the characters’ growth throughout the book, and how Noah especially grows into her role as a caretaker.
Additionally the romance was a nice slow burn, but not the primary focus of the book. The epilogue was a nice touch and gave me all the feels!

Wow, first off I wanna thank Maria for sending me a copy of her debut novel! It was absolutely fantastic and I loved Noah and Logan so much. This was a beautiful story about two strong ass people coming together to learn to trust again and it was truly touching.
If you haven’t already preordered Nothing Left To Lose But You then you’ve got to hop over to Amazon to do it now! This absolute emotional masterpiece comes out April 25th and you’re going to want it waiting for you in your mailbox or on your kindle believe me! Seriously ditch my review go preorder it and then come back to read this you won’t regret it I promise.
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and getting know Maria while she was finishing up NLTLBY, which means I knew she was going to make me cry in all the best ways. I actually drug out reading this one because I’m a wimp. But this is my warning to you to grab this book, grab your Kleenex, and buckle in because Noah and Logan will have you crying and loving it.
Noah is such a strong female lead that still dealing with childhood trauma and how it’s shaping her decisions in her relationships as an adult. Logan is a refreshingly sensitive and caring male lead who is recovering from the recent death of his wife and just trying to keep his head above water. They both are just trying so desperately to do the best they can for the children in their lives and along the way they find help in each other.
This book deals with sensitive topics like a loved one’s addiction, death of a spouse/loved one, grief, and emotional abuse but it does so with care and respect.
Be prepared to fall in love with the entire cast of characters Maria presents, but don’t try to talk her into any certain character for the next book. That’s my job—I have the text thread to prove it.
18/10 recommend this heartwarming tearjerker. I loved Noah, Logan, Rainey, and Maggie and can’t wait to read more from Maria.
Oof. This book. Beautiful, heart breaking, painful at times, funny, real, honest, with a bit of well written spice thrown in (one of those he over hears her scenes 😏). I couldn't put it down once I started.
Noah and Logan were a slow burn couple but the story was so much more than just their romance. It was about the traumas of their past and how they each moved forward. How two people can go through completely different situations and somehow heal not only each other but together as individuals. It's about putting the needs of others first, no matter how much it hurts you. It's about finding happiness even in the worst situations and that family isn't always just blood.
The way Maria dealt with the situations in the book were so realistic. I've never personally been through some of the things these characters have been through but I felt like I could feel their pain, their grief, their strength, their hope through the words on the page which is a credit to Maria's writing.
I'm so happy to have gotten an ARC for her debut novel and I'm so excited for the world to get their hands on this book. I can't wait to see what other stories she's got planned. She's an author I'll be chomping at the bits to read whatever she puts out.
(She's also got a Dear Reader section at the beginning regarding the subject matter. I thought this was extremely helpful.)
You know you have a great book when you are crying and laughing along with the characters, feeling as if you are right beside them on their journey. I am thankful Maria Patrick chose to write about experiences that touch many of our lives. She is honest in how the characters would experience trauma and the ripple effect is has on those in their life.
Logan and Noah are each experiencing events that have caused trauma in their lives that have affected how they interact with others. Their meeting is one that even though by chance, is healing for both. Love the process of healing, the challenge of opening up to someone new, learning to trust, and love again. Their journey together helps them learn about themselves and their dream of a new future. I loved Logan’s and Noah’s interactions as they learn to deal and progress through their trauma. Their banter is fun to witness and their heartache was hard to experience with them. But their budding romance had you cheering for them on their journey of self-discovery.
Honored to be an ARC reader for this book. This is Maria Patrick’s first book and she is an author that will not disappoint. I look forward to the many more books she will be writing.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Nothing Left to Lose but you Is a dramatic romance. There are many heavy topics in this book- mentioned now for trigger warning purposes- family abuse, the death of a spouse, and foster care. Noa and Logan are our two main characters, love interests, and parents. They truly are the missing puzzle piece to each other. If they could combine all their strengths they would be unstoppable. Noa, kind and ever so giving, Logan is loyal to the very end. And the best parents to their girls. Noa- not a biological mother took to motherhood very quickly something that is not often described in these situations. You may find the woman crying and unsure of herself wondering if she is enough. Not Noa. Noa is sure she is the best role model and guardian for her niece and she wants help from a pro (our fav Logan) to prove it. Logan wants to create a stable life for his daughter who surely feels as though her world was flipped upside down. Every move he made put her first. He was the best #girldad representation. Love is hard and painful and unknowing. You could lose someone in the blink of an eye, do you really want to let three words go unsaid if you know you could never see them again? The only way to find out is if you read the book….I swear it’ll answer that question.
This was a heartbreakingly beautiful story about found family, love, loss, and picking up the pieces and moving on when shit hits the fan. This book felt like a very honest representation of some heavy topics and themes. I think the author managed to weave together the necessary ugliness of the plot with the other lighter/romantic/touching/funny moments seamlessly. Love and Life in all there messy forms were entwined together perfectly to create this beautiful. One of my favorite parts was how compelling the characters were. They were complicated and messy and real. Noah was strong, smart, and willing to drop every to be there for her niece. Logan was reliable, kind, and supportive. His grief and struggle with feeling again was heartbreaking. Their banter was perfect. I loved watching their relationship develop. Rainey and Maggie were the heart and soul of the book, and I enjoyed their interactions with the adults in their lives. I adored Claire, Rufus, Izabeth, and Paul. They showed up for Noah, Logan, and the girls when needed. They were supportive, loving, and non judgmental. The plot was well paced and unfolded dramatically (in the best way). I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. I thought the ending fit the story and the characters. I appreciated the extra scenes the epilogue provided me.
I absolutely adored this book. I had the pleasure of getting an ARC and I'm so grateful I did. I immediately fell in love with the MCs. They were real and flawed and both characters were dealing with extremely tough situations. It was amazing to see their characters development throughout the book. Maria also did a wonderful job at ensuring the side characters were just as evolved as the MCs. NLTLBY also dealt with a few sensitive topics (toxic family, addiction, abuse, grief, foster system) but Maria did so in a very thoughtful way. It had a great balance of tough situations and fun and light moments as well. The romance in this book progressed in a very natural way and was a definite slow burn. I really enjoyed the witty banter between Logan and Noah and seeing their relationships with Maggie and Rainey. The epilogue also gave me all the happy tears. Overall, this was a beautifully written story and I highly recommend it!!!
Title: Nothing Left To Lose But You Author: @mariapatrickwrites Pub date: April 25, 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️ Genre: Contemporary family romance
Thoughts: I absolutely adore this book and the characters! Maria created a realistic story, with realistic and relatable characters. It touches on some sensitive topics and contains a lot of heartbreak but ends in the best way possible. Noah is strong, compassionate, kind, and witty. Logan is completely swoon-worthy, knows how to treat women right, and not toxic in anyway. He’s the sweetest, most caring, cinnamon roll. And the supporting characters that comprise their found families are fantastic. You grow to adore them through the story. The chemistry between Noah and Logan is unmatched and I throughly enjoyed their banter! I loved watching their relationship develop, as well as seeing their personal growth and their relationships with the girls blossom.

This debut novel by Maria Patrick has everything you could want from a Contemporary Romance and then some.
As a reader I am particularly drawn to books I feel are relatable or have good representation of real issues we face every day. Maria managed to talk about some real difficult topics through the development of some amazing characters in a way that was both emotional and relatable.
I am so incredibly grateful that I was able to be an earlier reader and am so excited to share it with all of you.

WOW! This book perfectly described life as a loved one of an addict, and it was as powerful as it was heartbreaking to read.
Noah is struggling to raise her niece after her brother winds up back in jail yet again, while Logan is struggling to pick up the pieces of his life after the sudden loss of his wife. They come together at a time when they both need each other the most, and no matter what life throws at them, they find their way back to one another.
The ending was by far one of my favorites, and I cried more while reading this book than I have any other book. This was such a wonderful read, and I'm so grateful that I was able to receive an advanced reader copy of such an amazing book!
Thank you to the author Maria Patrick for providing an ARC for this debut novel.
I have been following along with the process of Maria writing this book and I could not be more proud to have it in my hands and read the final version.
This novel is so beautifully written. We see Noah and Logan’s story unfold as they deal with their own personal traumas and raising young girls, Rainey and Maggie. This book includes difficult topics (death of a spouse and addiction). I loved Noah and Logan as characters and I found their dialogue to be so natural and I absolutely loved the slow burn and banter between them.
This book had a lot of heavy themes, but Maria Patrick thankfully handeled it with a lot of care and sensitivity, along with a thoughtful author's note at the beginning of the book accompanying the trigger warnings needed. This was 'found family in a whole different level. I loved the story, I loved Noah and Logan (and by extension: Maggie and Rainey. I love how the relationship (as a couple and a family) was realistic but still had a little fantasy to it, giving readers hope. Literally the only thing I hated about the book is the recent pop culture references (except for Taylor Swift and Bluey). And that's just a me thing, so I hope people don't get personally offended by that. For a debut novel, this was beautifully done. I can't wait for people to read this book. We need more stories like these.
This was the sweetest, most wholesome love story! I loved the mentions of Colleen Hoover and the movie 10 Things I Hate About You, both also favorites of mine. A lot of other timely things were mentioned too such as the show Bluey and the movie Encanto, which made this story relatable and familiar. I found some quotes in here that I loved, one made me laugh out loud and the other was so sweet. Had the most perfect happy ending and i was bawling by the end of the epilogue. I enjoyed being selected as an arc reader for this one. Can't wait for more from Maria!
This book! This beautiful, heartwarming book! I did not want this book to end. This book gives all the feels. I was sobbing at the end, but it was happy tears.
This book was beautifully written with characters that are easy to love and root for, even though they are heartbreakingly damaged and have deep, emotional damage baggage.
Noah takes guardianship of her niece around the same time Logan and his daughter move to Alexandria, Kentucky. When a friendship starts to form, Noah and Logan have no idea the road it will take them down.
I absolutely fell when in love with Noah's and Logan's relationship. They are both quirky and awkward but so sweet, loving, and kind. Having to say goodbye to them was hard.
I loved getting to know Noah and Logan’s characters. I thought Maria did an excellent job telling their story and giving readers an inside look at our justice system and how it can work in some states. You really feel the struggle Logan and Noah go through throughout this book. Logan for his daughter and Noah for her niece.
I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to other books from this author.
This book is a great read! Noah and Logan meet each other when they are both dealing with an enormous amount of personal struggles. After meeting, they develop the most beautiful, caring friendship. Eventually, they can no longer resist the urge to turn that friendship into something more.
Noah’s struggle with family resonates with me. It’s a hard situation to be in, but she definitely makes the best of it!

When you find out a woman you knew in college wrote a book, you must read said book. I must fully admit that while romance novels are not typically at the top of my TBR, I did really enjoy the book and the writing. I liked the dual POV, as well as the characters' dialogue. Overall, it was very well done. Great first novel, Maria. (Hopefully, with many more to follow!)
I had the honor of being an early reader of NLTLBY and I cannot even begin to explain how quickly I devoured it. The two main characters have believable and relatable personalities and backgrounds, and the storylines that bring them together are touching, raw, and deeply personal. Be prepared for beautiful and emotional story that Maria Patrick has written in this book.
This book was such a great read! I received an ARC from the Author.
Noah and Logan or so easy to like as characters! They both have their own struggles that they are dealing with, but work through it together. This book has an amazing slow burn that everyone can appreciate! You will not want to miss this!
This book made me feel all the feels. I felt the heartbreak, the uncertainty, the hope and most of all - the insurmountable love. Noah and Logan will forever hold such a special place in my heart. When I need a comfort read, when I want to feel all of those incredible emotions again and when I want a story about the beautiful triumph of love - I will pick up this book and find solace in Maria’s words.
Thank you for writing this book and blessing the world with this story!
This book will go viral as soon as people find it! It’s so hard to believe this is a debut novel because it reads like a mature, fiction author who just knows how to write characters that you fall in love with.
What an amazing gem this book is! I’m a Fantasy Genre girl so fiction reads can be so challenging for me. There was NOTHING CHALLENGING about this book except that I had to put it down and adult!
Maria had one of the most seamless writing styles, makes it easy to devour! This storyline felt unique and had a set of circumstances that I rarely read about. Two people, from broken pasts, find courage to face unexpected futures while parenting and adulting…. And let me tell you… the slow burn is 🔥🔥🔥
It’s such a well developed relationship arc though, so much more than romance. They are deep, emotional characters and Maria pulls you in and you can’t stop reading until you find out how this ends!
Real people, real trauma, real pain, real struggles and a beautiful ending. This is a must read for sure!
**There is an authors note in the beginning for topics that may be a challenge… please read!
