Life on the Moors #8

A Cosy Christmas with the Village Vet

Rate this book
It’s the most magical time of the year! Will Brogan and Nick find the happiness they crave so they can celebrate the festive season?

Christmas has always been a special time for Brogan, especially since her move to her grandparents’ smallholding. Set near the picturesque village of Lytell Stangdale in the middle of the North Yorkshire Moors, it’s an idyllic location. But with the loss of her beloved grandparents still raw, she’s struggling to find her festive spirit.

Talked into going to a wedding by her friends, Brogan finds herself sitting next to a rather handsome stranger. Thinking she’ll never seen him again, she dusts off her flirting skills and lets her fun-loving side loose.

Newly single Nick Heuston was dreading going to his friend’s wedding. But a chance encounter with a woman with captivating green and eyes makes him think otherwise. He’s gutted when she disappears without leaving any way for him to contact her.

Telling himself he needs a break from relationships, Nick intends to focus all his attention on his job as a vet at a new practice. It proves easier said than done; he just can’t get Brogan out of his mind.

Meanwhile, Brogan’s been looking forward to starting her new job as a vet nurse at the new local practice.

On their first day at Danskelfe Veterinary Surgery, both are stunned when they come face-t0-face once more – something Nick seems very happy about, but Brogan’s not so sure.

Despite her reluctance, it would seem fate is keen to push them together, and Brogan finds her feelings for Nick growing. As for Nick, the more he gets to know Brogan, the more he finds himself falling for her.

Just when their romance looks ready to bloom, something or someone seems to get in its way.

Will Christmas work its magic? Or are Brogan and Nick destined to be nothing more than a brief encounter?

Why not join Brogan and Nick, together with their canine companions Wilf and Maudie – and all the familiar Life on the Moors characters – for a heartwarming, festive trip to the moors?

I recommend to read A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet if you want to treat yourself to a pleasurable read.

It follows Brogan and Nick who after a nice night spent together, the two lose sight until fate puts them in each other path again.

I enjoyed to read their story, the words flew effortlessly, Brogan and Nick are lovable, and the moors are always fascinating especially during the winter season.

My Opinion

I have read this book as a standalone and for me this did not spoil my enjoyment.

I have read a lot of Christmas books this year and I have yet to find one that I haven't enjoyed - this one features a vet so animals are featured as well as a sweet romance. Eliza writes about a lovely community that truly comes together to make sure that nobody spends Christmas alone.

There are some lovely wintery descriptions that really help to build the festive spirit. This book can easily cheer you up if you are having a difficult day.

A Cozy Christmas with the Village Vet by Eliza J. Scott. Brogan is starting a new job not realizing that one of the vets is someone she met at a wedding weeks earlier. Brogan is determined to keep it strictly business but of course life has other plans. Mix in a little mystery with some light romance set during the holiday and you have the perfect cozy book

Can this Christmas bring back the missing festive feelings?
Brogan always enjoyed Christmas time, especially since she shared it with her beloved grandparents. But as losing them still hurts too much, Brogan is struggling with finding her Christmas spirit…
At a wedding she reluctantly attended, she find herself sitting next to a handsome stranger. And while sparks fly around, brogan decides to have some fun, knowing she will never see this man again.
But when she starts her new job as a vet nurse at the new local practice, she is stunned to discover that the new vet is the man she thought never seeing again.
Brogan is shocked at this discovery, while Nick is very happy to meet the woman again he cannot et out of his mind, even if she disappeared in the middle of the night.
Is this serendipity at its best and will Brogan and Nick have a chance for truly falling for each other? or will that one special night be the first and last of them being together?
Returning to Lytell Stangdale is always a great joy for me. Add the Christmas spirit and I knew before reading just one word that the author will have managed to write another marvellous story!
From the very first chapters, I felt like I knew Brogan my whole life and that she was a close friend of mine. Even if the way she got her heartbreak a few years ago clearly caused her doubting herself, it’s obvious to anyone what a kind, gentle, altruistic and loving person Brogan is.
And seeing how she is still grieving over the loss of her grandparents, wanted me to give her a big, comforting hug.
But I could see that my hug would not be needed, as she has her friends around her, understanding her pain, and lovely Wilf, ready for cuddling his owner whenever she needs it.
Despite acting out of character, I was happy when she met Nick and had that one magnificent night. And her sneaking out of the room without even saying goodbye was frustrating as a reader, but also understandable. Frustrating because we know beforehand that Nick is a great guy, but understandable because Brogan obviously doesn’t know that…
And now that you know Brogan… is there a man more perfect than Nick?
Of course he has his own heartbreak, and it saddened me to see despite his efforts to move on, how annoying his ex was still behaving… It made me wonder what Nick ever saw in that woman…
But obviously Nick has a too gentle character to put people in their place. No only his ex, but also the owners of the place he is renting.
Oh God, just thinking about that dump is giving me back the shivers!
And I always think the way a person treats an animal, shows a lot of his character. And seeing not only Nick being a calm and kind vet, but also his love for Maudie, told me more than enough!
It's not a big surprise that I had so much fun when both main characters discovered they were working at the same place. And seeing the joy on Nick’s face (or at least, imagining it), made my heart melt, while I laughed at Brogan being flabbergasted!
I loved reading how Brogan and Nick, sometimes by accident and sometimes not, are spending time together and are getting to know each other for the person they really are, and using that one night as a standard. And that was truly lovely, because I can honestly believe that even without that one night, these two would get together anyway. Just because of who they are and because they deserve to be loved by a kindred spirit. Even if it took a frustratingly long time! 😊
The kindness in this book also sparks from each page, and not only the kindness of our main characters. Because each inhabitant of this wonderful community look after each other, offer a helping hand. Lytell Stangdale is truly a place I would want to live myself. Especially as many characters already previously stole a piece of my heart (and it was wonderful to see them again!).
There is also a bit of a mystery, but for me the revelation didn’t come as a total surprise. I figured it out really quickly what that van doing lurking around each corner. But the climax of it was exciting but also hilarious in many aspects! I was glad I wasn’t in public while I came to those bits, because I just laughed so hard!
This was again a marvellous story by an amazing, very talented author. She captivates perfectly the wonderful characters of Brogan and Nick, showing that despite heartbreak, people keep on showing their kindness and love to even strangers.
I found this a heart – warming, perfect winter romance, about two people who deserve the world, even if they found the spotlight stolen by two fluffy characters named Wilf and Maudie. If the author may ever need inspiration for another kind of story, why not write a dog love story? Because I am sure that there is a lot of potential there! 😊

The Christmas season is about to get cozier with this delightful book by Eliza J. Scott.

You know, I don’t think I will ever tire of reading these cozy romance books. They have this incredible ability to lift my mood and make me feel ever so happy. A Cosy Christmas with the Village Vet is the eighth book in the Life on the Moors series. If you are like me and haven’t read the previous books in the series, don’t worry, you will still be able to enjoy this book. I never felt lost or confused with what was going on. Eliza does a great job at bringing her readers up to speed. If you have read the previous books, you will enjoy all the cameos from characters from the earlier books in the series. You will have that wonderful feeling of catching up with close friends at your favourite pub.

In this book, we hang out with Brogan and Nick; both characters are getting over bad relationships that have shaken their self-worth. A chance meeting at a wedding brings these two together, and sparks fly. They both can feel that instant deep connection and can’t deny their attraction. But before they can see where this attraction could go, Brogan flees, fearing that her heart will get broken again. It seems that fate has plans for these two, and they are both surprised when they meet each other again when they start their new job at the local veterinary clinic. This book is one of those fun, lighthearted romances you can easily get lost in for hours. I spent my whole Saturday reading this book, and when I was done, I went and bought the first and second books of the series because I wanted to spend more time in the Moors. There is something comforting about this book and its sense of community and coming together when others need help. It fills your heart with hope and happiness. Eliza does a great job continuing this series and allowing her characters to grow and change. Everything in this book was paced out beautifully. I never felt the story lagged or went off in a weird direction. The main story and all the side stories work together to make this charming and entertaining love story.

The one thing that surprised me was that this book had a bit of mystery and action. As everyone is getting ready for Christmas, two shady characters have been spotted throughout the village, and no one is sure what they are up to. I found myself trying to guess if they were robbers, developers, or maybe secret government agents. Okay, so that last guess is far-fetched, but you never know. Adding in this side story made me want to keep reading even more. I wanted to see what would happen next and what these two men were up to.

I need to give the animals in this book a standing ovation. If you are a fan of books with animals, you will want to read this book. Wilf and Maudie stole the show in this book. They had their own distinctive personalities that were larger than Life. I loved their interactions with their owners, and I found myself laughing at their antics. Anyone who has owned a pet will be able to relate to having full-blown conversations with your furry pal.

Brogan and Nick are lovely characters. Both have all those characteristics that I have come to expect from my cozy romance books. They are kind and relatable. Their romance is a closed-door one, which I prefer for my Christmas stories. Their growing relationship hooked me. I loved how, even though they “hook up” at the wedding at the beginning of the book, the rest of it is spent letting them get to know one another before taking that plunge into becoming a couple. I love how they stopped and took the time to build that foundation. It made their relationship more believable.

A Cosy Christmas with the Village Vet is a warm sweet holiday romance.

I am a huge fan of Eliza's work and I have been for quite a while. I just love the way in which she writes such fun and feel good fiction. I read the synopsis of 'A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet' and it certainly sounded like my cup of tea and so without further ado, I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settled down for one amazing read . I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vets' , which int he eight instalment in the 'Life On The Moors' series, but more about that in a bit.

As soon as I started reading 'A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet' I knew that I was reading something special and that I wouldn't be doing anything other reading for the rest of the afternoon. I took to the characters so well that I began to consider them as being friends of mine rather than characters in a book. I was blown away by he story and I also loved the fact that Labradors featured heavily in the book but then I am biased since I have two ASBO Labradors myself, who are growing old disgracefully. That's enough about me and so back to my review I do go. My Kindle was well travelled that day because it went everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the delightful story. I had my own theories as to what was going to happen so I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered down another path entirely. I soon got to the end of 'A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet' and I had to say goodbye to Brogan, Nick and the rest of the characters. I found 'A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet' to be a delight to read from start to finish and the story left me feeling as though I had had a hug from a mug of hot chocolate- in other words the story left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

'A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet' is superbly written but then I have to come to expect nothing less from Eliza J. Scott. Eliza has one of those easy going writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Eliza's books feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading an actual book. I hope that makes sense. Eliza clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem just as real as you and I. I have to say that I started chuckling away to myself at the start of the story and I am still chuckling even now after I have finished reading the book. I love the way in which Eliza makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt anyway.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Eliza's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Brogan is out of sorts and decides to take the position as vet nurse at the new vet clinic. She attends a friends wedding and meets Nick who she doesn’t realize at the time will also be starting at the clinic. They end up sleeping together at the wedding after several drinks. Brogan wakes up in Nick’s bed and sneaks out quietly while he is still sleeping. She is embarrassed that she did such a thing. Then when she starts her new job, he starts as the new vet who went into partnership with Chris. Brogan doesn’t know what to feel or what to do! Chris has told them both to bring their dogs to the practice. The dogs Wilf and Maudie get along so well and Maudie loves Brogan too. Nick is surprised that his dog takes to Brogan as she really isn’t a people person. Nick is smitten with Brogan he doesn’t know how to act around her. Him and his fiancé have split and she is giving Nick such a hard time. But he’s done with her, he’s falling for Brogan.

Nick comes home from work to find water running out the back door. He does his best to clean up what he can and heads to the pub with Maudie to get some dinner. Brogan notices his hair is wet and also his clothes too. They both leave at the same time and Brogan’s car doesn’t start, has been giving her problems for awhile. He offers to drive her home and asks if she doesn’t mind he needs to stop by his rental. When she sees the look of it, she offers him a room at her house. He accepts and they all feel comfortable staying together, even the dogs bond quite nicely…

Nick and Brogan eventually feel like they can share their feelings for one another and have a great Christmas together!

I have read all of Eliza’s books enjoying them all so much! I love how the characters carry on from one book to another, and new ones are added…Eliza is such a talented writer and I’m so happy to be a reader on her journey. Looking forward to the next book!

A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet By Eliza J Scott is a wonderful heart-warming contemporary novel that will swell your heart with love and kindness.
At the heart of the novel is community. It is a community that cares for all its members and looks out for each other. No one is ever left out in the cold. There are always spaces to be found around someone’s table.
The leading characters exude love and kindness. Their easy banter is a pure delight. Add in a couple of dogs and you have the perfect recipe for a delightful tale. The canine characters are as much a part of the story as the humans. We see the unbreakable bonds and the loyalty of man’s best friend.
Loss is keenly felt at Christmas when there are empty places around tables.
There are also characters suffering a different sort of loss – that of broken relationships. We witness the power of words to wound. “Words… the hurt they still had the power to resurrect.” The tongue can be more vicious than any double-edged sword.
This is a beautiful book to read in the run up to Christmas. Snow, frost and Christmas traditions really whet the reader’s appetite. Eliza J Scott paints beautiful pictures with her talented pen. The scenery springs to life.
Verbal volleys warm the reader. There are some absolutely hilarious scenes – who can forget the character whose own false teeth bit him in the bum!
I absolutely adored A Cosy Christmas With The Village Vet. It is a beautiful read to brighten a dark day.
I received a free copy from Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

I just loved the premise of this book. Having had a wildly flirtatious, and then some, first meeting, Brogan discovers that Nick is the new vet at the practice that she’s just joined as a veterinary nurse. Realising that it wouldn’t be appropriate to be in a relationship with her boss, she resolves to buckle down to business as usual and pretend they have no history.
Brogan is an adorable character and I found myself hoping that she would find the courage to open up to Nick. She is still pining for her late grandparents and living a solitary life at the farm she inherited. With her lovely Labrador for company, she has great friends and has a particular soft spot for her elderly neighbour. She was beautifully developed, and I felt that the more I learned about her, the more I wanted to be her friend.
Nick is equally attractive, and I was drawn into the sad back story that saw his relationship hit the skids, leaving him homeless and jobless. Starting a new position at Danskelfe Vets was perfectly timed. Their chemistry was undeniable, yet it was their trusting friendship that really captured my imagination. It also helped that Nick also had a Labrador that captured the heart of Brogan’s dog.
There are visits from former characters, but they are introduced in a way that you can quite easily join this series from this book. However, there are plenty more to catch up with. There’s also a darker side as a mysterious van is seen lurking in the area.
There’s something rather special about a visit to Lytell Stangdale and I adored every moment.

This festive story centres around Brogan who has returned to live with her grandparents on their farm, following a broken romance. Sadly, her grandparents have died and Brogan is living a rather solitary life, gradually mixing more in the village. She is about to restart her career as a veterinary nurse and is ready for some change, at the same time, being careful to protect her feelings. Enter the new village vet, Nick, who is also recovering from a broken engagement and looking for a fresh start. The chemistry is evident.

As ever, friendship is important and looking out for one's neighbours. You see all Brogan's kindness and desire to help as she keeps her eye on her elderly neighbours. At times, I was impatient with Nick who seemed unable to shut down his ex-fiancee's demands. With some gorgeous dogs to add to the story and snowy moorland scenes, this is a lovely December read and just as enjoyable as previous books in the Life on the Moors series.

In short: love, romance, Christmas, snow
Thanks for the author for a copy of the book

This is my first book by Eliza J. Scott. I loved the cover, so snowy and two dogs! Having read A Cosy Christmas with the Village Vet, I’ll definitely be checking out the other books in the series.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was full of seasonal cheer, and the warmth of community. Not to mention lots of lovely dogs!

I loved the setting in Yorkshire, and the snow made it feel very wintery and Christmassy. I loved the village of Lytell Stangdale, and the sense of people supporting one another.

The romance was great too, and the way Nick and Brogan met, and then re-met, was definitely entertaining. They’re both great characters, well written and realistic. I very quickly empathised with both of them.

Overall, this was a lovely romance, full of Christmassy cheer and community feeling. Perfect to curl up with on a cold winter evening.

I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

Lovely visit to catch up with the characters from the Yorkshire Moors

I've read the all of the books in the series as they come out and love how the books focus on a different main character but incorporate the other characters, animals (I love the antics of feisty Reg!) and villages. You can however read the books as stand alones as the stories a give enough background for a basic understanding of each character.

This latest offering is just the thing for a relaxing read, about if mystery and drama that works out well - 3 cheers for Reg! Some romance, kindness to others and a close knit little village with a wealth of Characters, the Arty Octogenarian's always make me smile, and people who look out for one another. And of course you know there will be a happy ending

An absolute pleasure to read. What more could I want! This has all of my favourite things dog's, Christmas and romance. I haven't read any of the other books in the series but that did not spoil my enjoyment as it can be easily read as a standalone. With likeable characters and I bet you can't guess my favourite characters (the dog's of course). A well developed storyline with some great festive descriptions. This is an easy to read, fun, relaxing book. So put your feet up, grab your favourite drink and get stuck into this beautiful novel.

I have a horrible cold at the minute and feel run down and this book was the perfect remedy to make me feel better, it was like a warm bowl of soup or a toasty hot chocolate. It gave me all the festive feelings I was hoping for in a small village that gives that sense of community that most of us long for. I really enjoyed the relationship between Nick and Brogan; with a forced proximity and a one night stand there was lots to unravel with this workplace romance and I really enjoyed it.
