A blizzard is coming, and a murderer known as the Mockingbird stalks the snow.
Seven teenagers went into the mountains on a camping trip. Two days later, their parents lost contact.
And now a young woman's body is found tied to a tree. The campsite was destroyed, and the others are all missing. But rumors abound, and a folktale resurrects—legends say there's a wildman in the mountains known as the Mockingbird who mimics the voices of those he kills.
In the small, gold-mining town of Nome, FBI Agent Ella Porter is called in to hunt the killer in the mountains and to discover what happened to the other campers.
Meanwhile, Ella's father wants revenge against his daughter, and a serial killer from Ella's past—the man who cost her everything—is on his way to Nome.
Having worked on projects with New York Times Bestsellers and USA Today bestsellers, Georgia Wagner recently hit #1 bestseller with her newest series. Location and character are two big factors for Georgia, and getting those right allows the story to flow seamlessly onto the page. And flow it does, because Georgia is so prolific a new term is required to describe the rate at which nerve-tingling stories find their way into print.
When not found attached to a laptop, Georgia likes spending time in local arboretums, among the trees and ponds. An avid cultivator of orchids, begonias, and all things floral, Georgia also has a strong penchant for art, paintings, and sculptures. A many-decades-long passion for mystery novels and years of chess tournament experience makes Georgia the perfect person to pen the Artemis Blythe series. That's where it all started, but the drive to craft thrilling mystery tales soon demanded new characters in new locations.
Do I like this series? Yes. Am I thrillered with this series? No. Enjoy the writing. Enjoy the setting. But I need to remark that the dynamics of this horrible family bothers me too end. When a rich "civilian" can dictate what happens during an investigation is beyond comprehension. When a family member takes out a contract on a FBI agent I need to call fowl. Good story with so, so many flaws. All I see is money buys the power and the law takes a backseat and an FBI agent with no backbone and even less skills. Will I continue reading in hopes that the dynamics change? Yes. Come on author give Ella a backbone!
This is the 2nd the series about Ella Porter, who is an FBI agent. She was recently sent to Nome, AL more or less as punishment from the FBI. On her last case, she was responsible for a well known serial killer getting away.
Now she is back in Nome, where she was born and raised. She hasn't seen her parents or twin sister in 12 years. The man she loved is still there. She never knew why he broke up with her and all this time, she still loves him and now he has teamed as her partner in a murder case.
Seven teenagers who went camping are now missing and they have found one dead! The camp is torn to pieces and looks like a wild animal was there. The story has always been going around about a killer in the hills called the Mockingbird. He mimics others voices. Is he really a man or animal?
Trying to find the teenagers is getting dangerous for all involved as a blizzard is coming to Nome and a killer is coming for all of them.
Ella was to late to save half the teens on the mountain but she had to keep trying.
Ella was only part of the group trying to find the rest of the missing teens. The others were being led by her sister, the one She hasn’t spoken to in years. Ella is here as the FBI rep in the area. Also her cousin is one of the missing teens. The first live kid they find is talking gibberish. Something about the mockingbird monster chasing them. It was the monster that had killed the first of the teens and destroyed their camp. It was using the dead girls voices to taunt them. But no one believed him until the second teen has the same story. Now they not only had to fight a blizzard coming in but some kind of monster to save the teens. She at least had one friend helping. If only she completely trusted him it would help.
I think this is the best yet. Ella Porter is fast becoming one of my favorite characters. High school students are missing, some killed, in what looks like a monster attack. All this in Alaska, in winter, with a huge storm coming in. Ella, her twin sister, and the rest of the town, including Brenner Gunn, need to find those missing kids before the storm hits. Wild stories about the Mockingbird abound, but is there any truth to them? So fast-paced, it took me less than four hours to read. I recommend it!
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Blizzards can be hell When a search for missing teenagers is amped up by an incoming blizzard, things go from bad to worse. When their campsite is discovered totally and savagely destroyed the stakes become much higher to find them before the storm hits. This is a fast-paced story that will get your blood pumping as you join in on the search and discover the clues along the way. Pure adrenaline!
Another excellent book in this series! The story is fast-paced, and full of emotion because teenagers are missing and a body has been found, and to make things worse a storm is coming. Ella has to work fast and hard to solve this case, the story got me from the beginning and I read it in one day! I thank the author for the ARC.
Most of the mystery series I've read follow the same pattern. Main characters with different adventures from book to book. This series follows the same pattern, but with a twist. There's an underlying story that leaves you with a 'to be continued' feeling. What's going to happen with the serial killer? How will the family animosity play out?
Another superb series by Geogia Wagner!! I can't put down her books and just keep turning pages to see WTH happens next. The fast-paced plots just absorb you right into the story, and the characters are fleshed out perfectly. Great reads!!
Teenagers are missing. Some are found dead; some are found alive. We learn a bit more of what happened in the 12 years Ella was not in Nome. Plus, we learn the true character of Ella's dad.
Short enough and good enough to keep reading this short series but kind of lacks depth and development. I enjoy the unfolding serial killer storyline to keep going. Also, the scenery descriptions is really good without being too much.
Ella Porter is tough, smart and protected by her first love. Mystery, action and a hint of romance. I read this book in one day while recovering from the flu. The perfect cuddle up in bed book.
Once again.the lady of steel does her job from start to finish. A job she damn good at. I have found that once I start reading I have to read on and on.
