Ha Na has had her eye on Rodrigo, King of the Ice Dragons since the first day she met him.
She’s been taking her time, letting the sexy dragon woo her properly.
But she’s done waiting. Time to claim this dragon as her mate.

AJ Sherwood believes in happily ever afters, magic, dragons, good men, and dark chocolate. She often dreams at night of delectable men doing sexy things with each other. In between writing multiple books (often at the same time) she pets her cats, plays with her dogs, and attempts insane things like aerial yoga.
She currently resides in Tennessee with aforementioned cats, dogs, and her editor/best friend/sister/partner in crime.
I think that’s the first time I’ve read a Romance when the main character is a grandmother! I was so pleased!!! The story is short, maybe shorter for my liking, I was hoping for a little more! When I stared reading I was curious to know how the writers would make a story with Ha Na as a central piece in a romance story, it was cleverly done, in a really good taste, kudos to A.J. Sherwood and Jocelynn Drake for the excellent job!
There was few issues that I was a little peeved:
Overall I was satisfied, it was amusing, the positive aspects are greater than the negative:
Absolutely loved the cover art, congrats to Katie Griffin
The good + Rodrigo courting Ha Na properly + Rodrigo taking their connection very seriously, and wishing only what's best for Ha Na + Rodrigo now being Alric's step-granddaddy
The neutral o Why did nobody ask the very important question whether any children Ha Na and Rodrigo would have would be baby aunt/uncle/pibling to the twins
The bad - Rodrigo was incredibly anxious and obviously thought Ha Na might not return his feelings. Ha Na did nothing to calm in down - in fact, she seemed to enjoy toying with his feelings - Ha Na blamed Rodrigo for not stating his intentions out loud, but neither did she. She complained she had been flirting excessively and he wouldn't take the hint, while he had been courting excessively and she refused to take the hint either... - When Rodrigo finally built up the courage to confess his feelings for Ha Na, a really big moment for him and also one that could shatter his heart, she took her time and delighted in inflicting just a little more agony by dragging it out. That's not funny, it's downright evil (and not in a good way) - When they informed Ha Na's grandchildren about their bond, Ha Na told them they without talking about it first with Rodrigo. Excuse you, such a major life decision requires communication with your partner!
I have enjoyed the Scales 'N Spells series a lot, and I think these authors write very good books together. However, this short was a complete miss for me. Ha Na played with Rodrigo's feelings to the point of heartbreak, made relationship decisions without consulting him first, and just straight up acted like a hypocrite. Yes, she deserved to be wooed. But so did Rodrigo. I would not recommend this short, and I hope their dynamics will be portrayed more equally in the rest of the series.
I was excited for this story since seeing the spark between Russian Ice Dragon clan but living in Brazil, king Rodrigo & Cameron+Cassie's mage grandma Ha Na, in Scales 'N' Spells Series. I have only read it's previews & some scenes, but this new series prologue worked ok as a starter!
Poor Rodrigo is courting Ha Na, she definitely didn't make it easy. Evil Evil woman! But they're meant to be together. Both our MCs are old, The authors made it work well with no sex scenes but yes to kisses!
That scene when everyone finds about their engagement, that Rodrigo is now Alaric's step-granddad was so funny 🤣. I've read Drake's books before, but was introduced to Sherwood by this!
Imma sure to read these series soon! This quick free book was my last story of 2022!
I am not a fan of mf stories being included in an mm series, but thought I'd give this one a try since it was so short. Also, as a prequel, I didn't want to miss anything relevant to the rest of the series.
It was.... fine. But I skimmed most of it, and just didn't care all that much about the bits I didn't skim.
We already got the gist of what this short showed by the implications at the end of the previous series, and if I had the short time I spent skimming this one to do over again, I would have skipped it and just dove straight into what actually interests me, which is the mm series.
Cute intro story to the sequel series to Scales and Spells. This time we are in Brazil with the Valerii clan and King Rodrigo has his sights set on Cameron’s grandmother Ha Na. It’s sweet short story that serves as an in intro to this new chapter of the story.
It’s a short story and there’s not a lot of depth here but it’s fun and transitions us from Germany to Brazil.
This is Ha Na and Rodrigo's story which is just way too short only in that I always want more! It does however set us up for the new spin off series. Best line in the book is when Alric realizes Rodrigo will be his step grandpa. What a laugh out loud scene!
Ha Na and Rodrigo's story is an entertaining read with a lot of subdued passion. Ha Na’s determination to claim the Ice Dragon king is refreshing, and their chemistry definitely heats up the pages. The slow buildup to their romance makes their dynamic enjoyable, though the pacing felt uneven at times.
While the plot is straightforward, it leaves a little more to be desired in terms of depth and world-building. If you’re looking for a quick, steamy paranormal romance, this book is a solid pick, but it may not leave a lasting impression.
Although each book focuses on a different couple, reading the Wings 'N' Wands Series is best enjoyed when read in order:

Heather's Notes A cute story about Cameron's grandmother and Rodriguez - the king of the ice dragons
I wondered how the authors were going to take Cam and Casey’s grandmother and make her into a romantic heroine. The way the authors did it was to make her love interest older too, and to make any sexy time off page. It worked. I am looking forward to a new series featuring the Ice Dragons of Brazil.
Agh so short. And so few details of the courting. Blah. It is just an intro to the next series. I guess it’s okay. Nothing missed if you don’t read it. Did not have enough of Ha Na’s story for my liking. But I hope to see more of her character in new series. She was strangely missing ( in Rio) in the last couple of books and that was a bummer.
I swear I reviewed this when I read it right before reading Ruins, but I guess somehow I missed it. This was just lovely. I loved Ha Na in the original series and I just adored watching her wind Rodrigo around her little finger in this story. This is a great introduction to the Brazil ice dragons and I know I'm going to love this series just as much as the other. :)
Where can I find/buy this book to read? It isn't showing up on Amazon under the Wings 'n Wands series and finding a title called "Dawn" is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Any hints or help please? TIA
King Rodrigo & Ha-Na: love it! Would’ve loved more but I get it. These two are just too awesome. I certainly didn’t see it coming but I’m on board. Alaric’s reaction was hilarious and priceless. Excited to read more about the Ice Dragon clan.
This amusing story bridges the shared serieses following the two different dragon clans that are suddenly finding mage mages again. Ha Na is such an amusing character and I love how she is plotting to help the ice dragons find their mates.
Sweet story about the grandmother of the twins from the other series finding her mate. The only thing I didn’t get was why they waited. It makes no sense to me.
