Rate this book
He moved to the Witch City to start a new life, but everything about Salem feels eerily familiar.

Henry Trank is scared. Terrified by nightmares plaguing him since his arrival in Salem, he decides he's had enough. But when he records himself screaming out the last thoughts of a dying woman as he sleeps, he ends up wishing he'd left his GoPro in the closet.

Fearing for his sanity and desperate for answers, he shows the tape to the only person in Salem he trusts. When he watches the reaction of the beautiful green-eyed witch, they both realize it's worse than it looks.

Henry agrees to meet with the leader of the League of the Moon coven. When she lays out her suspicions, he's shocked. But she can't tell him the whole truth. Not yet. Because she knows the real reason he's back - to finish what he started 326 years earlier, as someone else. Henry's arrival in Salem is no surprise to her. And no surprise to the immortal who wants all of them dead. Again.

Can Henry accept an impossible truth in time to save them all?

In Your Dreams is the unputdownable first book in the League of the Moon Urban Fantasy/Supernatural Suspense series. If you like magic, mystery, and twist-filled plots, you'll love Robert Sanborn's compulsively addictive thrill ride!

A battle across time.

In a battle across time witches fight a demon. This might be the most interesting and unusual romance I've ever read. It has great characters and interesting themes that keep you engrossed.

This was a fairly quick listen from my backyard (Salem MA) that ties into the Witch Trials in a less traditional view ... which was mostly interesting, but also a bit confusing in the way it was presented. As a debut I thought it was a good start. It includes an aspect of reincarnation and a bit of time hijynx that was pretty standard. There is also a antagonist that had a few surprises ... but over all, the plot (or conflict) was at least a partial mystery for most of the story (because it was wrapped up in the identity of the antagonist which is not revealed until the end). As such, it was a little difficult getting into the story since I had a hard time fully understanding why everything was happening.

I was given this free advance listener copy (ALC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The cover art, premise, and even the author bio really drew me to this book and I'm delighted to say the story did not disappoint! It includes so many of my favorite things: realistically based witchcraft, astral travel, spiritual gifts, dreams/nightmares, demons, reincarnation, spiritual/existential conjecture- just to name some. The author has somehow created an atmosphere that is both somewhat quirky and fun while also dark and edgy.

I was amazed at how well Sanborn was able to keep the suspense going. To be perfectly honest, I kept thinking I'd figured the story out only for another piece of information to be revealed and throw me for a loop. That kind of unpredictable plot line is difficult to achieve and Sanborn seemed to pull it off with ease. It is one of those books where you need to pay good attention just because there are so many layers, but you'll find this easy to do with how the author writes the character's recollections and explanations of important details.

The book's opening scene immediately jumps into the action and mystery. It seems for a bit that things are not too complicated and the reader will have their answers fairly easily as the story progresses. However (and I love this about the book), when one question is answered, five more come about. In some cases, it is even revealed that what the characters/readers think they know is not the case at all. The more you read, the more you need to peel back those layers and understand what is really at the heart of everything. It definitely keeps you on your toes.

On that train of thought, the conclusion was entirely satisfying. The author brought every single detail from the story together and tied it up like a nice little gift. Overall, a very interesting plot that (forgive the cliche, but it's most apropos) keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Something extra I got from this book which was unexpected, was the romantic part of the plot. And it was such a good paranormal romance! I try to keep from spoiling things in my reviews so what I'll say is the casual way in which Sanborn slips in his take on soul mates and love is beautifully perfect. This aspect of the story gave even more heart to an experience already chock full of emotion. So if these kinds of things interest you and you're ready for an intense ride, please go ahead and dive into 'In Your Dreams!'

Book Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.5 / 5 stars)

Henry Trank leaves a seemingly normal life, but after he moves to Salem for his new job as an EMT, he begins to exhibit strange nightmares that feel all too real. He recruits the help of the lovely and stunning Joanne from a local coffee shop, who he’d been drawn to since the first day he walked into the shop. But what starts as an ordinary date turns into an adventure that leads Henry to meet witches, demons, and venture into the past. With Halloween night approaching, can he and his friends figure out what is going on before it’s too late?

Robert Sanborn’s debut novel is a paranormal adventure that takes what we know and spins it on its head. Mixing together common elements of witches, werewolves, demons, and history, we are introduced to an endearing protagonist that most “nerdy” individuals can relate to. His romance with Joanne is endearing, and you begin rooting for them right away.

The pieces of the puzzle are masterfully done; each character serves a purpose, and while I figured out one twist prior to the end, it did not take away from the overall mystery and magic woven through the air. In fact, despite not being a huge fan of the “soulmate” trope, the way it was done in this book still made me love the main couple without complaint.

I think the main thing that took away from this book for me is obvious grammatical and structural errors. While it wasn’t enough to detract from the story as a whole, and in fact I had a load of fun reading it, some of the errors did make me pause and think. The biggest incident of this is how story starts in first person, but after two or three chapters switches to third person for the duration of the tale. First person pops up occasionally for a line or two, which makes me wonder if the author original wrote the story that way? It is possible this is done on purpose, but personally it didn’t quite land.

Overall, these errors did not take away from my enjoyment. The story was intriguing and dark, picking on areas of common knowledge, while creating its own original twist on reincarnation and witchcraft. If you enjoy paranormal adventures and the Salem Witch Trials, I highly encourage you to check out this book. Personally, I cannot wait to see what Sanborn does next!

The premise wasn't my issue with this book. It was that it started out in first person then switched to third person. It also flipped narrators constantly and without much chapter division. It's not that I couldn't follow it, it's just that there also seemed to be some excessive verbage. All these things combined made it hard for me to get into.

In Your Dreams is the first book in the League of the Moon series of thrilling paranormal mysteries sharply written by Robert Sanborn. Right from the beginning, we are pulled into a captivating and scary adventure filled with interesting characters and enhanced by vivid descriptions.

The action of In Your Dreams is set in the Witch City, Salem, and follows Henry Trank as he struggles to make sense of senseless things and to cope with events that are outside his control.

Dark and light magic, terrifying dreams, witches, a green-eyed beauty, and secret societies collide into this darkly entertaining novel in order to deliver a gripping story that will keep the reader or the listener on the edge of their seat. I really don’t want to tell you anything else because I hate spoilers and don’t want to ruin the narrative experience for anyone.

Audiobook narrator Timothy Howard Jackson delivers a balanced performance for In Your Dreams using his rich, deep, and at times even rugged voice to create a high level of immersion for the listener. Mr. Jackson expertly captures all the nuances of this story, he reads, he acts all the parts and he gives different voices to all the main characters. I think that he is a very good choice for this series and I hope to see him return for the inevitable sequel.

I enjoyed listening to In Your Dreams, the writing is good, the action moves swiftly, the characters are interesting, the descriptions are full of remarkable details and the narration is great. I’m looking forward to the next book in this saga.
If you are on the lookout for a good paranormal mystery, In Your Dreams by Robert Sanborn may be just the thing for you.

This is a very well written book with some great and relatable characters. I found it a very interesting read from the very start to the finish. I am a bit late in reviewing it because I have been working my way through a load of my TBR books determined to get them down, but just recently for every one I have read I have ordered another one or more because like this book you can get books that follow on and I already have the next book from Robert Sanborn in my TBR list.
It is a battle fought across time, Henry moves to Salem to take a job, he is an EMT in a busy hospital and he loves his new job and the area he has moved to. The only downside is the disturbing nightmares he has been having since he moved, they are so real that he wakes up sweating and screaming at night. He has become good friends with Joanne who own the local coffee shop and gradually he confides in her about the dreams, he feels a bit silly doing so, but she understands more than he realises as she belongs to the local coven of witches and she draws Henry into the unknown world of Demons and Witches.
She take him to meet the head of the coven who has been expecting him, as he has a special reason for turning up in Salem but she is unable to tell him about it as he needs to work it out himself. He does this with the helps of Joanne, the head of the coven and a college professor. But is he in over his head as all this is new to him, he didn't even know the supernatural creatures that he is dealing with even existed.
I would have given this book 5 stars the only thing that made me drop a star was some grammatical and spelling errors, they didn't detract from the story or the enjoyment of it, but that is me being pernickity

Edit: After a few days of sitting with it, I decided it's more of a 4-star rather than 5 for me because some aspects of the writing didn't really do it for me, but the story shines.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a gripping, intriguing, page-turning urban fantasy/supernatural thrill ride with time travel, witches, reincarnation, immortality, secret societies, past lives blending into the current, and an epic final battle where the past bleeds into the present and secrets are revealed. It blends so many fantastic fantasy/supernatural/paranormal elements in such an intriguing way, and tackles belief in the occult in a way that really resonates with me.

With each page, each chapter, each revelation, you just want to keep reading on to keep it coming, flying through the pages.

The cast of characters is also small and cosy and tight-knit, aligning with the "souls travel together" motif. While I thought some could have had better-fleshed-out personalities, all were decently-enough portrayed to be compelling.

All in all, this book really shines with being incredibly tightly-woven, suspenseful, and gripping.

This was my first experience with Robert Sanborn's work and it was fascinating. The story was creative and well written. The story was like an onion and as each mystery was presented, there was some hook that led to a deeper mystery that needed to be solved. I found this story to be a fast read and I had to keep listening to the book to find out how it ended. I enjoyed the story and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Timothy Howard Jackson's narration was great and his portrayal kept my attention in the tale. I requested this audiobook from Audiobooks Unleashed and I have voluntarily left this review.

Loved the narration of Timothy Howard Jackson, perfect for this great book.

I do love a story of Salem and witches. We meet Henry Trank who is staring a new job in Salem as a EMT. All is great apart from strange nightmares that feel all too real. He finds himself turning to Joanne who he finds lovely and stunning from the local coffee shop. When on a date with Joanne , things take a strange turn what starts as an ordinary date turns, into Henry meeting witches, demons, and venture into the past.

Wonder-Full! Delightfully both Here and Beyond✨🪷

Reality-driven (depending on your window), jounced with fully-fledged characters and a perpetually compelling storyline, the smooth yet poised flow of this magical wrapping will both dreamknap your imagination and nurture your inspiration. BTW children at their third birthday can reliably communicate very well while yet they vividly remember their most recent incarnation (s)… and until 5, usually can still watch your guardians, thought-love rainbows, and visiting ancestral spirits. Ask them….

I really really enjoyed reading this one! I felt that I couldn’t put it down and English is not my first language so I find a bit hard to read some books but this one was easy. Good. Comforting. I just thought it was confusing one thing: when the author was using the 1st person and switching for the 2nd one. I didn’t know if it was in propose or if he changed his mind of the way he wanted to write. But other than that, GREAT!

Really Good Read

I wasn't sure if it was going to be my type at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. My wife chose this book at random for me to read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. I was never board with it. I love the character and world building. Especially loved that it takes place in Salem. I am looking forward to the second book in the series and beyond.

It's a good ol' Salem witch story with a twist. If you like the paranormal and "time travel," give it a try. Though Henry gets rolling as the narrator, there are spots where the narration is suddenly switched to someone else which can be jarring. But the plot is unique and interesting. And who can resist a Salem witch story?!?

I really enjoyed the concept of this story with the reincarnation thing. But I feel like it was rushed at certain points. Like I'd go from one chapter to the next and have to back up because I didn't know how they got there so quickly lol. Overall, it was a good story. I'll probably read the next ones 🙂

Really loved this book. I understand it’s a series but this one can stand alone. No loose ends or cliffhangers.
I will say I saw the big ending reveal coming but that didn’t make this book any less than great! I will definitely be looking for the next book in the series.
Timothy Howard Johnson did an amazing job narrating!

I always loved the books as a teen on the Salem witch trials, and was excited to read a modern book that was tied to those times. The author developed a great story with great characters. There were some twists to it that I really enjoyed! I read it fairly quickly and was gripped to the end.
