Alien on Fire

Rate this book
I can’t stand him, but pretending to be the alien king’s mate is my best shot at getting home.

I’ve despised his species ever since they invaded Earth. Being abducted by the Roth to make babies? That was the hate cherry on top. Nydo might have saved me from a terrible fate, but there’s no way I’m falling for his “you’re my fated mate” schtick. Ugh.

Except… he claims he needs a mate —me— to secure his place as the Roth King and help overthrow our mutual enemy. Apparently, I’m proof the Roth can mate other species, a fact he plans to use to overthrow the Roth tyranny.

As for me? He promises he’ll return me and my friends to Earth once he’s secured his position as King. Besides, I need someone to scratch a, well, a very specific itch, thanks to the ridiculous meds my abductors pumped me full of. Might as well make use of a willing partner.

I’ll let him dress me up like his doll in Roth clothes and makeup, I’ll let him into my bed, but there’s no way I’ll let him convince me to stay once our deal is up… even if there is more to the muscle-bound, fire-powered king than I thought.

Alien On Fire is a super spicy, enemies-to-lovers sci fi romance for adults. It is the first in series about the Roth and their fated mates.

So I was anxious for this 1 st book to this spin off of the Suevan series. Cause I was eager to learn more about Nydo, the mysterious Roth. Is he the enemy of Humankind and the Suevan, or is he something else??? I was so eager to read this story, that I failed to finish the Suevan series first🤣 So I'll be heading back there soon.

My questions were answered. But I was disappointed with how this one ended. I can't say what exactly disappointed me, cause it would ruin things for others, but let's just say how it ended, and the choice Nydo ultimately made; made the whole purpose of this story and what transpired between him and his fated mate pointless..
So that's why this one got 4/5 stars ✨ from me.

All other aspects of this story did not disappoint. Once the story took off, cause it moved a bit slowly for me in the 1st half of this story. But the middle up to the last 2 chapters and Epilogue, it was awesome.

This is a good 1st book to this spin off, though, and I would recommend it..

I am curious about Nydo's brothers, Lyko and Ayro as well. So I'll be back in 2023 when their books are released.

This 1st book is currently on KU

DNF 77%

Regrettably, I had to abandon the book when I was 77% through it. The primary reason for my decision was the exasperating immaturity and repetitive complaints of the female lead regarding the male character. Instead of progressing and becoming a more nuanced character, she seemed stuck in a cycle of dissatisfaction. This lack of character development made it difficult for me to maintain my interest.

Despite this character flaw, the book did have an intriguing storyline that initially drew me in. However, as I continued reading, the incessant immaturity of the female lead distracted me from the otherwise engaging plot. It's disappointing when a promising story is hindered by a character who fails to evolve and only serves to irritate the reader.

Taking burning down the world for someone more literally

Yeah I needed this spicy anti-hero. I was so excited when I realized he was going to get a book because, let’s face it, I’m a sucker for the villain/morally-grey redemption arc.
Leigh sometimes felt a bit one dimensional, but she was good for Nydo because she could stand up for herself.

"You are my softness. You are already my weakness. You may not want to give me your heart, but it doesn't matter, because you already have mine. You can have both of ours."

4.75 stars!

I was so excited to read Nydo and Leigh's story as Nydo originally represents the villains in Earth's battle for freedom. And while Nydo definitely had an arrogant and controlling side, we get to see a softer persona from him that is reserved for his mate only. He was entirely devoted and obsessed with his mate, but his single-minded determination to save his people may ultimately destroy the tentative truce he has with Leigh. Nydo and Leigh's chemistry was so delicious and the epitome of hate-lust; both were surprised by the depth of their feelings for each other as they were continually tempted back together. This is one of my favorite books so far by January Bell, and I cannot wait for more in this series🖤

Tropes: fated mates, enemies-to-lovers, fake relationship, morally grey hero, fiery heroine, 'touch her and die' vibes, alien romance, hate-to-love-you, 'who did this to you' vibes, political intrigue, no-strings attached, STEAMY🔥

Rough start to a series

From the beginning, it read like I had stumbled into the middle of a story. Since I had not read the previous series, I felt like there is an important backstory I was missing .

The trigger warning about the villain is real.
I could not like the fmc . She shrieked half the book and complained for the second half. There was no romance here just a petulant selfish character who gets her way in the end. The side characters Bell and Pipper sounded sane and grownup.

Quick(ish) Review

Good start to spinoff, definitely anti-hero/villain romance. YMMV but I, with some exceptions, enjoy that villain who learns to love his woman even if he’s still a little sketch,, you know what I’m saying? That’s this book. Looking forward to the next one.

I really liked this. I have a feeling that this series has the potential to be better than its predecessor.TBH the MMC is written a little better than the FMC. He’s a morally grey villain and the FMC is insistent on going toe to toe round for round with him. My one issue with this book is although the MMC is a villain, he does puts his intentions with the FMC out there pretty early. When it comes to his feelings for her he is about as subtle as a nuclear bomb. So I found it odd that the FMC was as shocked by his actions towards the end of the book. I felt like she would have asked more questions when she could even see (and somewhat didn’t believe) that he would willing give her what she had been asking for. The grovel was pretty nice thought. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Nydo knows Leigh is his mate but she denies it. She believes she was drugged when she taken and is unsufferable as a character. For Nydo to regain his throne they must parade around as though she is his queen that actually enjoys his company. He has flame powers. "...I don't notice Nydo until he's on top of me, pinning me to the wall." She outwardly refuses him but internally can't get enough of him. He is of the Roth race. She complains and is a jerk to him but wants him to act sweetly to her but when he denies her pleasure she wants him more. When he is a jerk she loves it but says she doesnt, she is stubborn and annoying.

The enemy who destroyed earth now want them as their mates.

This situation unfolds in a complex and often hostile environment, raising concerns about the safety of the human team. As the narrative progresses, the dynamics between the women and the alien alpha warlords evolve, highlighting their protective instincts toward the newcomers. This interplay leads to intense chemistry among the characters, prompting them to confront their feelings and desires amidst the challenges they face.

The story is rich with elements of action, misunderstandings, fear, pain, love, and humor, creating a multifaceted exploration of relationships across species and the journey toward mutual understanding and connection.

This was soo good!

This is the first book in the spin off to the accidental alien brides series, and I definitely recommend reading at least the first four books to get familiar with the world and Nydo in particular. He is def seen as a villain, especially in the first book, since he belongs to the Roth which is the race of people that invaded Earth. Everyone has been at war with them for a long time, but Nydo is willing to help the Suevan’s for his people in order to finally have peace.

It was so nice to finally read from his character. I have been really intrigued by him since the beginning, and I loved seeing more of his backstory and what he has been going through. He was so complex, but absolutely loyal to his brothers and to Leigh. It definitely felt like a villain romance, because you know he would do whatever it takes to keep his people safe.

I think Leigh was the perfect match for him. She fought him every step of the way and always had him on his toes. She was really cool and was sniper in the federation, so I’m glad we got to see her be a badass. I also really liked her internal struggles with accepting Nydo. For so long the Roth have been her enemy, it makes sense she has trouble trusting him even though she can’t deny the attraction between them and the bond that is forming. They're chemistry was just undeniable though, and it made the push and pull even better!

The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was I felt like he just lied to her too much and I didn’t love the ending. I know that he’s villainous, but at some point he needed to give Leigh all the information so that they were on the same page, but he kept so much from her that it made sense why she felt like she couldn’t trust him. On top of that, I

Aside from those critiques, I felt like this was a very strong beginning to a new spin off. I am so intrigued by the brothers stories and what this author will come up with next!

2.5⭐️

I really liked the premise of this and where it started out. The tension and corresponding spice was fire. I have two main complaints:

1. About halfway through I stopped caring as much. The characters stopped evolving and their depth was very surface level.

2. Nydo’s decision toward the end of the book that causes the third act breakup (for like 3 days). I do understand this is alien romance and aliens don’t have the same moral compasses as humans. Normally, I can let things slide within that frame. However, the main point I struggled with was I believe he did know what he was doing was wrong. The wrongness was in not telling her the full truth. The reason he didn’t do that was because he knew she would never agree to it. So he didn’t tell her. Those aren’t the actions of someone who can’t understand why something is bad. Those are the actions of someone who knows it’s bad, and chooses to do it anyway.

I am happy they got their hea and that he learned. I did find it super weird that he dropped the crown after all that, but whatever. This would have been 3 stars if it weren’t for nydo’s choice toward the end. Not terrible but not quite worth a 3 star imo.

I still really want to read lyko and ayro’s books but I don’t see proof of them being published at all so I’m not sure that’ll be possible. I’m def done with this universe at least for a while, I need a break.

Nydo (H), the Roth King trying to claim his crown, convinces Leigh (h) and her friends to accompany him and his brothers to Roth and to pretend they’re mates to help overthrow the Roth Overlord and then the humans can go back to Earth. Except Nydo isn’t entirely honest with Leigh about the pretend mates, or letting her go, as he considers her his and believes the ends will justify his means. Lots of action and adventure as Leigh and Nydo battle together against their foes, and as Leigh fights her passion for Nydo. Ultra-hot and steamy. Amazing start to this new series.

okay I was expecting to enjoy this for sure, but didn't realize how much I'd LOVE it until I was falling for these beautifully flawed characters! they weren't perfect and they struggled but wanted to be better for each other. I love that! you don't need to be perfect to deserve love.

I loved the story and character arcs in this first book of the series about the Roth and I can't wait to see what's in store for the brothers next!

This was my very first alien romance and it did not disappoint!

Nydo would literally burn the whole world down for Leigh. The (love) story had a very rough start but I love how every character evolved? Nydo really wanted to understand her and her feelings and really tried to work for it since he is, you know, an alien and he does not know about human feelings & manners etc. The character development was chefs kiss! I love the world aswell and I know this is a spin off series so I really need the other ones aswell! But first let’s dive into my arc of Alien in Flames because I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

This is the first in a series and if this book is anything to go by, the remaining books in the series are going to be super good. We meet Nydo and Leigh in this one. There seems to be a back story from one of Ms. Bell's series but it doesn't take away from the story. You still get a good gist of what went on previously. It is exciting to read and the story flows nicely from the two MCs being enemies of a sort and them slowly going to lovers. It was very steamy but it didn't overshadow the story in that you still get a solid story out of it.

I wonder though if we'll ever learn about why the goddess chose Leigh and what her suddenly acquired powers mean. That would have been neat to know.

🔥 “I am going to use my power on you… I will ruin you for other males. Forever. You’ll never want anyone but me again.”
~~~
I loved Leigh so much! She’s brave, strong, fierce, bloodthirsty and really, really not fond of aliens, especially the Roth. And she’s a total badass! She’s not afraid to stand her ground and won’t let anytime intimidate her. Even more, I loved that, even though she’s so tough on the outside, deep down she’s also warm, caring and kind. That fiery woman is so awesome!
And then we have Nydo! He is one cocky and dangerous male. And he’s quite grey. Physically, you’d ask? Yes. Morally? Definitely. The lost King of Roth is powerful, dangerous, lethal, obsessive, scheming and violent. But there is so much more to him than meets the eye. Because Nydo is also fiercely protective, loyal and wants to do right by not only his people, but all species. Even more, he’s sooo deliciously dominant and possessive. I adored every single thing about this arrogant, energy-manipulating, “touch her and I will incinerate you” and smoking-hot Roth Daddy!
I absolutely adored everything that happened between Leigh and Nydo! She agrees to help him reclaim the Roth throne. But Nydo has even more plans for his fiery woman and he’s willing to do everything to achieve them. Their chemistry was fantastic right from the start. And, oh, so much tension between those two! Even more, the banters, the teasing and their internal dialogues were such fun to read. I loved that both were so stubborn, determined and gave as good as they got - they were so perfect for each other. And the passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot! I just love it when Nydo goes all possessive, dominant and growly. And he definitely knows how to use all his assets to please a woman! 😏 I couldn’t get enough of those two! But will the secrets Nydo is keeping tear them apart? And is he willing to sacrifice everything for his mate? You must read the story to find out.
In addition, the storyline and the worldbuilding were spectacular! Indeed, the story is a bit darker than January’s other books but I guarantee you’re going to absolutely love every page of it! I definitely did! I loved all the adventures through space and I loved that I got to explore Roth - a planet of extremes and beauty. I loved all the mysteries I encountered there. And the Roth might not be as bad as we thought… Even more, I loved Nydo’s brothers and Leigh’s friends and, with how this story ended, I’m super excited to read more about them in the future.
Overall, the story is a phenomenal start of the series! It’s filled with danger, adventure, humor, suspense, twists, secrets, drama, violence, non-stop action, blazing hot romance and marvellous characters!
Alien On Fire gets all my recommendations! I absolutely loved it!
This felt pretty damn good!
Had to jump on the new series starring our Roth king Nydo and the human he claims is his mate, Leigh. This series is a spinoff of sorts from the Accidental Alien Brides focusing on the Suevan Warlords by January Bell. I don't know she's publishing these so fast but I'm not complaining.
Given how much hate is shared for the Roth species responsible for so much war and devestation in that series, January Bell had a tall order to turn the specific asshole Roth of this story into a likable character. Did she manage to do it? Yes, I believe she did!
Nydo is the definition of a morally grey character to me. He wants to do the right thing and do good things but he's also willing to use some less than savory methods to get there. I don't know how she did it because it requires a delicate balance, yet I never felt frustrated or annoyed at Nydo's manipulation and lies and schemes and I'm normally hypersensitive to hating that shit with the force of a thousand suns.
Leigh was also a very delicate balance. She felt a little too easily willing to give in at first and almost comically overselling the "I find you so handsome but so annoying ugh" vibe but as things developed both in the plot and with Nydo, it felt more natural that she was going along with Nydo. (There's also a lot to say for desperation and hope.) I liked that Leigh was uncertain at times but also badass as fuck at other times, sometimes at the same time. It's really brave to do something when you're scared shitless.
I was VERY happy with the ending and the way things ended between Leigh and Nydo. I was pleasantly surprised because I really didn't see it happening. I kept expecting things to progress a different way (mainly Leigh having to make sacrifices out of love because that's the usual bullshit we're fed) and looking at the page count left and wondering when it was going to happen and then.. it didn't. Things panned out differently altogether and in a MUCH better way!
I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series and can't wait to read Lyko, Piper, Ayro, and Billie's stories! :)
Little Flame versus Inferno King
“Every soft sigh your pretty mouth makes is music to my ears.”
Nydo, a Roth freed from the Suevans, convinces Leigh that he will return her to Earth. Under one condition. She agrees to pose as his mate for political gain and access to the throne, to help end the Overlord’s reign.
Leigh is a fiery redhead in every sense of the word. She has so much emotional strength, contrasting with the rage and hate within her after the Roth invasion and kidnapping, snapping at any little thing related to the Roth. Nydo is a Roth king, coming into powers which haven’t been seen in generations, after meeting his mate. He presents a strong front but gets his jollies in taunting Leigh. Emotionally divergent, he is a walking contradiction. Bloodthirsty in traditions and nature contrasting with a mile long protective streak for those he loves, a cocky persona and marshmallow fluff insides, confuses Leigh until she doesn’t know how to act and feel with him.
The chemistry between the two is intense, and the push pull dynamic fit well with their personalities. There were moments of laughter throughout this book with the miscommunication being a highlight. The depth of both characters also made for an emotionally immersive experience. I felt a lot of different emotions throughout their story. My frustration with their behaviour made continued appearances and yet I enjoyed every minute of this book. Side note: The goddesses personality amused also.
Overall, I rate this book 4.5 stars. I did struggle with the deliberate lying and secrecy but admit it did make for an interesting dynamic. Their willingness to make changes and communicate with each other was a healthy way to repair the trust between them. Also, as soon Piper was introduced, I fell in love. I am thoroughly looking forward to Lyko and Pipers story.
Congratulations on another brilliant release. I am looking forward to how the series will progress.
I’ve read several books by January Bell, and have enjoyed each of her sci-fi/paranormal series. Her writing style
Is engaging, creative imaginative worlds and wonderful characters.
This is the first book in a new series, with the characters first introduced in the Wed to the Alien Gladiator (Book #4 Accidental Alien Brides). This book/series can be read as a standalone; however, I think it would be best enjoyed after reading the prior series. That series is so fun and entertaining, it is worth the read.
Leigh is suffering with the after effects of the forced hormone treatment the Roth Overlord’s minions injected her with while holding her in captivity. She sees Nydo, lost Roth King as the enemy even though he was involved with her rescue.
Nydo immediately recognized Leigh as his fated mate and he is determined to succeed in claiming her as his mate and his throne even if he has to lie to accomplish it. Nydo’s actions are as grey as his ash grey skin, he proposes a plan to Leigh where she pretends to be his mate so he can claim his throne in exchange for him returning her to Earth.
These two definitely have a fiery connection and he methodically works on convincing her to let him ‘help her’ with her hormone problem. The mental and emotional skirmishes between these two are non-stop. The dual POV emphasizes that Nydo truly has feelings for Leigh and her words hurt him. This makes him a more sympathetic character despite his plotting because his perspective and culture is so different from human thinking.
I enjoyed the introduction to Nydo’s two younger brothers and Leigh’s crew mates/friends who are likely the basis of more books in this new series. Looking forward to the opportunity for more entertaining books from this author.
Leigh has the worst luck. When the Roth aliens invades Earth she was in the fighting. She ended up badly hurt and trapped in a burning building. She is saved when the rest of her unit is killed. Her whole family is killed in the invasion. Then she is held captive by the Roth Overlord and is given forced hormone treatment to become a breeder. One of her fellow captives Nydo is a Roth and he keeps declaring she is his mate. When they get rescued, all she wants is to go back to Earth but everyone says it is too dangerous right now. Nydo comes to her with an offer. He is the rightful king of the Roth. If she helps him get his throne back by pretending to be his bonded mate, he will send her back to Earth. Leigh doesn't trust Nydo but it is the best chance she has to get home.
Nydo is the rightful king of the Roth. His mother ran away with him and his brothers when his dad was killed by his uncle. The Roth are desperate because an mysterious illness has killed all the females. The Roth has turned to taking human women as slave since they are compatible. Nydo was a prisoner because he was trying to save his brother. He is shocked when he meets Leigh and realize they are meant to be mates. She won't listen to him because she hates all Roth. He comes up with the idea of overthrowing the Overlord by proving to the remaining Roth that humans can be more than slaves by showing his bond with Leigh. He makes a deal with Leigh for her help but he never planned on letting her go.
4.5 stars. Leigh, the female human lead, was part of a group of human women rescued from Roth (fire manipulating aliens) who had dosed with fertility drugs to forcibly breed them. Nydo, the male Roth lead, was not happy to find a human mate for himself in a dungeon. He’s spent most of his life hiding in Roth ranks to keep his brothers safe from his uncle, the current Roth leader. Now his brothers are grown, he intends to overthrow his uncle and he needs a “mate” to prove humans should be treated well. Convincing Leigh to help him with the promise he’ll send her back to Earth, if she wants, when they’re done, he plots his success. But when Leigh finds out all the things he left out in his explanation to her, she’s not interested in being around Nydo any more.
This story is dual POV, well written, and an interesting complex romance in a new darker arc within the author’s existing world. I enjoyed Leigh’s resistance to Nydo’s arrogant assumptions. I enjoyed her ongoing determination to be actively included in planning. I found Nydo to be a jerk for most of the story but I appreciated his genuine grovel at the end and their reconciliation. I laughed at many of their interactions, especially when the Roth goddess became involved. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
I really enjoyed this book. I took off 1 star for hero not telling her something very important.
Hero is the rightful king of the Roth aliens. His uncle killed his mother and took the throne. Hero has energy and fire powers, which his uncle the Overlord doesn't have.
He wants to bring his human mate to prove humans are the answer to the virus that killed their women. To stop the war and get the Roth to back him as king.
Heroine just wants to go home. So he promises her if she pretends to be his mate, once he has the throne he will let her return to Earth. So she takes the deal.
But the hero is a big liar. He never intended to let her go back to Earth. He wants her to fall in love with him and stay forever.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
He never tells her about the Roth mating ceremony. After they have sex in the temple of the Roth gods, Roth markings appear on her body. She is very angry because now she can never return to Earth. People on Earth hate the Roth and she has the same markings now.
So she knows he lied. She leaves him. He comes after her and tells her he gave up being king and gave it to his brother, who would be better at it anyway. They agree to stay together and be mates. Also, the heroine now has magical powers like the hero and a Roth god keeps talking to her in her mind.
The Villain gets the girl
I have enjoyed all the books in this universe but I think Nydo and Leigh’s book might be my favorite.
Leigh is not some shrinking flower, she’s intense and sometimes down right mean, but I liked that. She was dealing with a lot of pain and anger and resentment but she was also so loyal and loving to those that mean something to her. In that way, her and Nydo are similar characters.
I really wouldn’t even say Nydo is a villain, honestly. What made him such an interesting character was his focus on his goal. He did things that were damning but there was always a simple minded reason for it. His need to protect his brothers, his species and because of Leigh, the human race fueled his actions. He knew he was playing with fire, pun intended, but he also knew what was at stake.
The sexy scenes between them were hot! The push and pull, fight for control was steamy to say the least. Leigh gave as good as she got. Nydo dominated her in just the right way. They balanced each other wonderfully. So wonderfully that when they finally gave in it was more intense because of their stubbornness.
I loved the two other females (Billie and Piper) as well as Nydo’s baby brothers (Ayro and Lyko) and can’t wait for their stories to be told. This story was a ten out of ten for me. So worth the wait!
loved it so much 🥺🥺🥺 i think my biggest issue tho was that all the dynamics between them (him initially only wanting her not for real love but as a pawn, her not putting any emotions or feelings into the sex, ect) werent quite clear to me at first. after the first half i understood that was what was happening, but i dident feel it as strongly as i did all their other emotions. it was also a bit confusing how, before they got to roth, he was showing signs of worry and fear and guilt of not telling her his full plans, but after they did the ceremony he acted like he did not understand why she was upset at all. i love her little icecream eating spree when she was running away, every part a sad girl who just broke up with her boyfriend. i also love that he gave up the throne for her. that took me by suprise tbh, but i think it worked out for the best at the end. he CLEARLY needs to work thru some things with her first before he can take any proper part in overthrowing the overlord with his brothers. lyko will do a good job until he can get his shit together. i hope that once those two are on more stable grounds they will start doing more royal duty type stuff, even if he does not take back his throne from his brother. i think their dynamic is too powerful to forever exclude from the roth monarchy.
I just hate that strength is looked at as being rude..a jerk..or just plain b***h..that's not strength..why do American cultures insist on having there way or the aliens conforming to human standards when they arent! Ofc he lied..cuz ur a selfish B...u used him to get off not caring it hurt him but he still gave into u...I'm mad at his choice in the end..as bad as she treated him she threw a fit because he did what he had to to save his people AND humans..all he did was take care of ppl..she had good sex..better clothes and a man who loved her and what the f did she give him in return?? No she had no real growth glad she wasnt Queen..liked Pippers character better...the dom/sub sex scenes were hot :) ....loved the one wed series..just dislike the rude..spoiled...tstl attitudes..get females who respect the culture and are RESPECTFUL to these hulking warriors who worship them not saying to f them on day one..but learn to have attitudes that know how to adapt and appreciate the ppl feeding..protecting them providing them shelter..LITERALLY saving there lives..qualities and growth that make them DESERVE to be Queen..if shes a jerk to the king how can she rule justly over ppl that DONT love her? LOVEEEDDDD NYDO..HATED LEIGH!
The narcissism of Nydo for the 85% of this book is just. No. Not for me. The manipulation the deceit the lies? And then only regrets everything when he sees what it cost him. So if Leigh hadn’t reacted the way she did he never woulda changed his behavior. So no.
The entire time I was reading it was just a pit of ugly feelings for everything he was doing. This wasn’t a morally grey character I could love but too much like IRL men who think behavior towards someone they LOVE is 💯 ok and then genuinely confused because they have no idea why it’s not. Seems like narcissism to me.
EVERY step of the way he knew. He had dozens of chances to explain or the author could’ve given us some insight to his thoughts. But every time Leigh talks GENUINELY about wanting to go home? He ignores her. Talks over her. Rationalizes his choices. He had trauma as a child. Yes that’s taken into account. So did Leigh. And yet he doesn’t do the same. She takes his trauma into account and feels bad for her “bitchy” behavior. He never has any qualms like that. He apologizes for what happens to her but doesn’t actually feel any remorse for his decisions.
Like… I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a MMC more and I’d much rather have a morally grey MMC. But Nydo isn’t that. He just an IRL man in alien form, which is NOT what I signed up for when I read romance. 😡😡😡😡😡
I really enjoyed this book. I’ve read other books from January and loved them. This one I liked but I didn’t feel as pulled into the world as others have before. I like how Leigh is willing to do anything for what she wants but also wish she kept that mindset a bit more. It felt like she let go of what she wanted pretty quickly. I wish there was more communication between Leigh and Nydo, but that’s the main conflict in the book. I like that Nydo wants to protect Leigh but is also willing to let her defend herself and recognizes that she is strong and powerful in her own rights.
This book has some of my favorite tropes and a few of my least favorite tropes. I absolutely love the cultural misunderstandings. When 2 characters come from different places and don’t understand the slang/ language and it’s just funny the misunderstandings that can happen. I also love the enemies to lovers trope, but I felt like this one could have been done better. However I hate when there is deliberate miscommunication. So which how Nydo handled everything I feel like it could have been done in a different way.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
