Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.

My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.

I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.

I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes.

So this was a bit slow but still action packed and quite intense.

The battles amp up as more wolf shifter packs are attacked and kidnapped. Jewel and her friends must race to save them and meet unlikely allies to aid them in their fight.

She also faces issues with Killian in their relationship because he wants to protect her and she wants him to treat her like an equal. I loved the emotional bond between them and it actually makes their relationship believable.

A lot of action and wolf shifter attacks in this one.

Well I am off to the final book in this series!

This book starts off where one left off- mid fight. I almost DNF. They had essentially the same fight three times. This book was boring to me and hard to finish. I couldn’t stand the FMC or the MMC. Jewel is whinny and Killian too overprotective. There were so many characters it was hard to keep track of who is who. I admit, this may have been from listening to the audio and not reading some of the other spin offs first. I didn’t enjoy the narrator either. I won’t be reading book 3 because I don’t care what happens.

Killian's and Jewel's story continues in Fated Hearts the second book in the Shadow City Silver Mate series. This book was awesome, the friend group is growing and Jen really leveled up with the action scenes. With the supernatural cat out of the bag and humans losing their minds, the world is in chaos and it's up to the Shadow City gang to once again save the day.

Jewel is kind and considerate but she's struggling a lot. Her emotions are getting the best of her, anger towards the enemy, irritation towards Killian, and most of all the guilt of not being with her family/former pack when they have been battling enemies left and right. The guilt is eating away at her so much that she fills like she has to prove herself by taking dangerous risks.

Things also aren't so great with Killian, he's struggling with the fact that Jewel is a Silver wolf and is meant to protect those in need. After the devastating loss of his entire family, I can understand Kill's struggle, and his need to protect his mate but if he can't get it together things are gonna get worse between him and Jewel.

My wish has come true. Shadow City takes place in the same world as Jen's Wolf Born trilogy and Hidden King series and now they've all come together. The characters from the previous two series have joined up with the Shadow City gang to take on a threat. The humans haven't stopped, wolves are going missing, Tom and his cronies are a much bigger threat than anything possible and the Shadow City gang could use all the help they can get. I loved seeing Sadie, Egan, and the gang. There was plenty of deadly action, and new couple relationship drama and the story ended with a not-so-shocking plot twist because come on, of course, more trouble is on the way.

I loved Fated Hearts, it was a great read. The group is facing more and more threats, both the supernatural and human variety. The danger is ramping up and the body count is higher than ever. Jewel and the gang have faced so much what else will they have to face? Good thing this group knows how to stand together.

I personally found the first two books in this series hard to get through; I’m not going to read the third book. I just found it simple. The writing was simple, things weren’t explained well just happened, relationships weren’t cultivated and just kind of slow to get some closure/plot.

I would have thought that everyone would know not to trust the witches from the city! Now their enemy is alive and well and causing more problems and repeatedly try’s to kill and capture them. The old couples and the new allies will have to work hard to find the missing packs and hope to stop more from disappearing. This newly mated couple are starting to understand one another better but are not quite there yet. Loved the story and can’t wait to see what happens next.

I can’t believe how much I disliked this book compared to the first book. This MFC had a constant guilt thing about everything. If something when wrong it was her fault. If she didn’t think about the problem first, her fault. If she wasn’t there, she should have been and she could have fixed it. On and on page after page. The MMC wasn’t much better. 7 hours of this on and on. I just couldn’t take it anymore.

Ummm

I generally enjoy the shifter plots hence the 3 stars..... but, the internal monologues were excessive, and got old fast. The non heroine, 'heroine' was flat and poorly developed. I skipped quite a bit of her and Killians bits to get to the 'good' bits.

All shifters are part animal, but some humans are all beasts. War has come again to the supernatural world of the wolf shifters and their allies, but this time the enemy comes from within. Freed from the secret government building where the humans had been experimenting on them, the shifters are slowly making their way back to the farmhouse with some of those who had helped free them. It was now time for Jewel, Killian and a small group of shifters to head back as well when they come face to face with Tom and a large number of his followers. The fighting begins again. It is long and hard many including Jewel are severely wounded, one loses his life, in the end they manage to overtake Tom’s pack, but there is no sign of Tom anywhere. Thankfully the larger number of loses were in Tom’s pack.
Finding Tom has reached the farmhouse before them. They could see a small group of the previously captured shifters being led away from the farmhouse by some of Tom’s men. As they limped within site of the building, wounded and tired, they realized this might be the end. They couldn’t hold out much longer. But fight they would, they wouldn’t be taken. Jewel heard it first the sound of cars coming down the road. The SUV came to a stop in front of the building. Erin and her coven of witches had arrived and were offering assistance. They manage to subdue and disable Tom’s pack with a sleeping spell. Killian and Jewel moved quickly to get the two hundred shifters loaded onto the buses that arrived to carry them away to safety before the witches’ power gave out.
Shadow City home of the supernaturals, the sanctuary where they had been safe for hundreds of years. But even here the news isn’t good. Humans now aware of the existence of supernaturals are swarming Shadow City, getting as close as possible to the homes of the shifters and others. Within days another pack has been taken. Jewel feels the distance that Killian has put between after the battle and struggles to get answers out of him. As an Alpha Killian is used to being obeyed, leading and protecting his pack. Inadvertently Jewel has pushed forward not following Killian’s order nor listening to his concerns for her.
During the fighting they were at cross purposes with each other, and this could spell the end for more than just them. By normal shifter laws the Alpha was the leader of the pack, while as his mate Jewel would normally look to him for direction and his protection. For more than a thousand years Silver Wolves had hidden, become a legend. Wrapping his head around the fact that his mate was stronger and faster left Killian doubting his role as protector and leader, as well as Jewel’s commitment to their mating bond. Jewel had things to learn too. She and Killian needed to communicate with other rather than just go their own way. She needed to think twice before she let her anger speak for her. They needed to work together, need to trust each other.
There are more secrets revealed, unknown enemies come forth and battles that take tolls on both sides. Tom isn’t alone in his quest for power. The unknown group of humans conducting the research will go to any lengths to return the shifters who had escaped back. The shifters who been taken, experimented on, were now finding they had problems with shifting. Had the experiments changed them forever? The researchers have tasted success with their experiments and now want more guinae pigs.
Jen L. Grey has given us a world of supernatural creatures that have lived freely together for eons, villains who for their own reasons seek revenge and power, causing pain and death. Throughout there is edge of the world moments, heartbreak, humorous moments, some snarky characters, heartbreaking loses and the question of the ages… of how man can become so inhuman to another being. In the midst of the fighting there are moments that show how Killian and Jewel are growing closer and forming a better understanding of each other. There are other characters that stand out as well that come to life with attitude. There is a bit of spice and an ending that will lead you to the final book. I recommend this book if you love shifters, suspense, mystery, magic and romance.

Fated Hearts

I've read all the books up to this point, and I've got to say they are losing their luster. A lot of repetition on facts that gets repeated in every single book over and over again, come on, we have read all of them up to this point. We get it. Its more filler at this point.
Also, all the bad guys always say the same thing..
"You don't know what you're up against!" Even the evil Erin. Come on, let's face it. We have known since book 1 with Griffin and Sterlyn that that woman was EVIL. She has manipulated everything she has ever said and worded it, so she SOUNDS EVIL but isnt saying a technical lie, but then again she can cover a lie anyways with a spell. Honest and good people don't skirt around things, especially the truth during a war. Especially when they can smell lies. The only reason I have continued is because I absolutely love Killians character, and it's about time he found his mate. At this point, I'm skimming, so I can just be done with it already. I've binged the entire Shadow City series from Sterlyns books to Killian's. I'm just ready for it to be over. They deserve some darn peace and happiness. It's been one thing after another for them since the start. No reprieve at all. Oh, and for the government to have constructed and done something to inhibit their wolves after only supposedly knowing about supernaturals for a couple days before taking packs? How did Erin even get involved with Tom or the Govt to begin with. No they have known longer than since the demons exposed supernaturals. And then placing the blame on Killian? Uhm, No. He only confirmed it after they were all on video fighting demons. Seems petulant to blame him and immature. The fact is, demons exposed them, Killian tried to control the narrative. If witches were meant to be balance well they are failing horribly with the Nightshadow coven. And I still want to know what those witches will do with Levi and Rosemary's blood bc there is no way they haven't used it for nefarious purposes. Idk why they haven't removed her from the council knowing she was evil all this time. The angels can literally SEE IT. Yet, there she sits. Guess off to finish book 3. So they can hopefully get rid of her and the evil in that coven permanently, idk how they would fix the exposure issue. That I am actually curious about.

Killian, Jewel, and all the rest are in a war to save Jewel's grandfather's pack and when they get free the first of many battles with some guy name Tom and his pack. After the get to the the others another battle is taking place and with the help of Erin a shadow city witch takes them by surprise. When they get back home to rest and train the find out that another pack has gone missing. While the make a plan to recon the pack, they come across Sadie and her pack along with Egan and Jade when a another battle breaks out and they find out Tom is still alive. When a small goes missing they get all they can together to try and find out where they went. With the help of Sadie and the others will they win this battle or will they lose more? I was totally blown away with story. Each page gives something new, a twist you won't expect, and so many emotions, and laughs you won't be able to stop reading. Killian and Jewel have a lot to work thru, and a whole war trying to take it all away from them. I loved seeing Sadie and the others it was unexpected but I loved it. I so am looking forward to what she has next.

Wolves Jewel and Killian hit bumps of human marriage go-round, she says he’s overprotective and ignoring her skillset, he says she doesn’t ask for help. It wouldn’t be Shadow City without the council, politics move on as Erin decides she should fill the Azbogah vacuum and humans descend on the mecca for shifter gawking.

A shifter only website reports news/rumors of missing packs. Checking out one of the missing pack’s home bases, brings another set of mixed supernaturals into the fold. Tom waited years for revenge and shifted his target from her mom to Jewel. The team thought he and his minions were dead. Imagine their surprise when they have to fighttps://www.goodreads.com/work/editio... them again (and again)!

To my taste, there wasn’t much actual story offered in this outing, the opening battle went on far too long; there were many, many opportunities for a drinking game with repetition plus; Jewel was irritatingly arrogant for 2/3 of the read before realizing it’s not the same as strength.

Fated Hearts picks up right where we left off in book one and the action continues through the entire book. As always I was completely sucked into the Shadow City world and this one was one of my favorites.

Killian and Jewel still have some struggles with adapting to being newly mated, but they do work through them together. Jewel definitely has a ton of growth and steps into her new role perfectly.

We get to see some crossover characters from a previous series and I loved seeing Sadie and crew interact with everyone and am excited to hopefully see more of them. I am extremely curious about Sierra’s reactions to Torak… Do I smell the next series!?!?

Definitely more plot than spice, however the spice is good, very sweet which is the norm with Jen and what I love most about her books. Can’t wait for the next book!! 💜

Fated Hearts is the second book in the Shadow City: Silver Mate series. It is vital to read this series in order to understand the dynamics and the plot. I would recommend reading the whole Shadow City Series. It is intense, suspenseful, action packed and full of interfering family and ever-growing friendships.

Killian and Jewel's story continues as the Shadow City world becomes even more public. Expect action, mates, new friendships and unexpected traitors. Read to see how Killian, Jewel and their Shadow City crew fight for the truth, build new relationships and take on the traitors. There will be surprises with each chapter and definitely a cliffhanger that will leave you begging for more.

Jewel and Killian are like a married couple, figuring out the balance between protection and independence. The Shadow City's political scene keeps things interesting, especially with Erin stepping up. And humans can't resist the allure of shifters, leading to some unexpected and comical encounters. Missing shifter packs add a touch of mystery, throwing our characters into another adventure. The return of Tom and his minions brings both surprise and déjà vu (apparently, villains have a thing for comebacks). While there's plenty of action, some battles might have gone on a tad longer than needed. And Jewel's "I know everything" phase can be a bit eye-rolling, but she eventually learns that strength isn't all about arrogance.

This series just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely love all the warfare that goes on in this book. There are so many characters that have the coolest personalities! Rosemary is the best! Jewel, Killian and their friends are on a mission to save another pack that has been taken. They meet some new allies that are also trying to find the missing pack and must depend on one another to help defeat the enemy pack helping the humans and find the missing pack. Something is wrong with pawpaw's pack and can't shift. Can they defeat the enemy and get the answers they need? Ends on a cliffhanger...

This was such an enjoyable read! Loads of action and its nice to see that the relationship between Jewel and Killian getting stronger. Lots of action yet again....

I also had to do an excited happy dance as we get to see some familiar faces.....the meet up/cross over that I have been dying to see happen! Yay!!! Plus an unexpected meeting for a a very mouth Character. I suppose she has been moaning in our authors brain for quite sometime....lol

We also start making abit of headway into why the wolves are being captured and this new development that has befallen some of them

Absolutely cannot wait to read the next book.....seems like the plot thickens....

This world just gets bigger in this latest Shadow City series. The story picks up immediately where the last one left off. Jewel and Killian and the rest of the gang are in battle after rescuing Jewel’s grandfather’s pack. But getting away isn’t exactly easy. Then, even once they are home safe, it isn’t the end of humans looking to kidnap other packs. The Shadow City gang won’t stand for others getting captured and experimented on. Not when they have the power to help. So they set off to find out as much as they can. And when they do, they meet so unexpected new supernaturals with their own surprises. I won’t ruin the surprise but those who follow Jen’s series, you are gonna love this new twist! Another great book in the series. I am loving Jewel and Killian’s relationship. The two are getting to know one another better and working on being mated and what it means to have someone standing by their side. Can’t wait for their next book!

Action Filled

So much action in this one book! Sheesh, when do the characters get a rest, poor things. Love seeing Sadie and her “pack” again. I can’t wait to read more of Sierra and Torak’s “interactions”. 😂 (Bet they’re fated mates). Erin needs to GO, she’s way too conniving and manipulative, I haven’t liked her since the 1st book she appeared in. Can’t believe there is only one more book in this combined series. 😭 It is going to be a bittersweet goodbye.

Dead

ADULT CONTENT, READER DISCRETION ADVISED. Jewel and her motley crew meet another motley crew to battle Tom and his pack. They survive the first battle. Confront Erin about Tom's existence, which she masterly evades. The second battle many die. However, some weird things happen in the battle. PawPaw's pack struggle with the shift, Killian and Jewel communicate and Levi has to take a call during the second battle.

I was waiting for Killian`s story and I loved that another silver wolf was brought in, Jewel. This series of books is packed with a lot of action. Jen also introduced new characters in this book that goes with other books she has written.

This book went a lot smoother for me compared to the other books in the Shadow City series. There was still recaps and character dialog but they were short and got to the point.

Jewel and her fated mate, Killian, are back. And to no surprise have threats from both humans and other shifters coming at them.

That doozy of a cliffy in the first book opens a whole other problem that leads to some intense but action packed scenes. Some things are resolved but more problems pop up and the ending promises some good stories to come.

A little slow for me at times but the heat kept me happy.

Killian and Jewel seem to have the same relationship issues over and over but are finally addressing some of them in this book. They can’t seem to catch a break but I’m enjoying the additional characters and other supernaturals that are in the story and make me want to read more about them.
Per usual we end on a cliffhanger, but the shock is not super surprising with some of the foreshadowing, although I am excited to see how it shakes out and the next book!

Not as explosive as the previous series, but still a good read. I was not surprised by the person identified at the end of this book. Earlier in the series it was going around my head that Erin was as much involved in the dirty antics, as Ezra and Azborgah. Now I definitely know she is. Why I don't know. It can't just be because she wants to discredit the Silver wolves and Sterlyn's strong bond with her new friends? I can't wait to find out.

I received an ARC for this book. What a great second book. Jewel and Killian have to learn to trust each other in battle. They both have demons they are fighting. They both want to protect the ones they love. They have to learn to communicate and compromise. This book was so good. It was hard to put down. Ready for the next one!

Killian and Jewel return for another adventure..... that takes place right after the book we just read. You would think they would learn to just stop fighting fate already. Witches are back terrorizing people and Killian and Jewel are busy fighting their feelings and trying to get everything just right.
