I'm intrigued by this story, the charming characters, and the simple, yet enjoyable artwork. All in all a great first volume to a new series.

WOW! What an explosive volume! (And no pun intended!! Okay, well, maybe…LOL)
When I tried the preview of this on Book Walker, I knew it was something I had to read because I LOVED the opening message of how words are powerful and we should be mindful of what we say. Seeing how Sena's previous life's words affected her in the present was really eye-opening and brings to life (in a tangible way) how words have power, even if we can't always see the power they hold. While I know its just magic and probably not THAT big of a deal, seeing that message even explored later on through Sena having to use words to enhance her magic ability made me think of a Bible verse about how the tongue has the power of life and death and seeing that verse in action. Not only that but seeing how her previous life's fears affected her in this present life was unique. I feel that's probably not TOO uncommon in other isekai titles, but this spoke to me too in that it can be hard to overcome trauma and hardship from the past, making Sena a very relatable heroine.
All of this really led to me loving this volume because seeing Sena take that first step in using her words to help others and be courageous really touched me. She doesn't feel she's brave, but she WANTS to be, and can definitely relate to that! Thankfully Keith is there to help her be brave because he's the push she needs even if she is still nervous or scared inside.
Speaking of him, I am definitely shipping these two! Though with that said, I did appreciate how this isn't an instant romance or even super looks like a romance in this first volume. I definitely think near the end we see that Sena has feelings for Keith even if she isn't fully aware of them just yet, but I think it will be a nice slow burn that I'm very much looking forward to!
And oh my goodness to that ending!! What a turn of events! :o :o :o I didn't see any of that coming and have ZERO idea where this manga is going to go! While I don't think the story deviated in tone exactly, it was a lot more action-packed and seems to be just the beginning of a political struggle as well as something else I can't mention due to massive spoilers.
I am VERY eager for the next volume! The art is absolutely gorgeous and spent plenty of moments just appreciating it before I kept reading! I also love the characters and the overall story!
Recommended to those who are looking for a fantasy shoujo isekai with a wonderful heroine who gets braver and braver as well as a potential slowborn romance!

I honestly loved the world-building of this story! I thought it was unique with how the dragons attack every certain amount of years and how the two kingdoms affected by the attack reacts differently to it. I also found the magic system to be unique and I love elemental magic (you can thank Avatar the Last Airbender for my love of that lol).
Also, Sena and Keith were my favorite characters. I wanted to like some secondary characters, but I felt like we didn’t spend enough time with them to fully understand who they are. I am hoping in later volumes I can form a better opinion about them, but as of right now, they seem flat.
The big reason I gave this a 3-star rating was because it felt too fast paced for me. I feel like it was 4 volumes shoved into 1 volume. Normally, I am not a manga reader and have been starting to get into it, so I am not sure if this is how it’s supposed to go. But according to other reviewers, they felt the same. I didn’t quite understand why Sena felt like she was banned from the kingdom or how her mother died. The ending also felt super rushed and a little surprising at how quickly Sena went along with it.
Overall, I will be continuing this series! I highly recommend.

Ich wusste die Reihe ist was für mich. Es erinnert mich an Die rothaarige Schneeprinzessin und ein paar andere Manga und doch ist es eine schöne eigene Geschichte. Und ich liebe Soras Zeichenstil einfach. Wird definitiv weitergekauft.

This is one of those series that I think will be better in its second volume. There's a lot to enjoy here, most notably Sena learning how to go beyond her comfort zone and the fact that being on life number two doesn't instantly change who she is as a person. But exposition is very clunky and we don't get a great feel for ostensible romantic lead Keith. I'll definitely read volume two, but if you haven't started yet, maybe wait and read them together.*

Eher zufällig bin ich nach „Die Braut des Wasserdrachen“ auf diesen Manga gestoßen. Das Cover und die Beschreibung haben mich gleich angesprochen. Doch ich kann gleich sagen, dass mir dieser Manga wesentlich besser gefällt.
Sena ist in einer fremden Welt als Hexe mit ungewöhnlichen Zaubersprüchen wiedergeboren worden. Es ist schön, dass hier quasi erklärt wird, wie sie in diese Welt gekommen ist und wo genau sie sich befindet. Auch erfährt man wie alt sie ist und wie bisher ihre beiden Leben verlaufen sind. Kurz und prägnant.
Sena ist in ihrem zweiten Leben ebenfalls eine Einsiedlerin und lebt zurückgezogen, weil sie die Ablehnung anderer Menschen fürchtet. Doch dann begegnet sie Keith und der stellt ihre Welt Kopf, indem er sie mit sich nimmt. Sena ist dabei motiviert, mehr über ihre Magie zu lernen und diese auch zu beherrschen. Doch das Land, in dem sie lebt, befindet sich im Ausnahmezustand. Der Drache des Nachbarreiches ist außer Kontrolle und wütet dort. Doch was hat Sena mit dem Drachen zu tun? Kann sie Keith helfen und ihn vor dem sicheren Tod bewahren?
Die Geschichte finde ich wirklich spannend und es toll zu sehen, wie Sena sich entwickelt und langsam aus ihrem Schneckenhaus in die Welt hinaus geht und dazulernen will. Sie lernt dabei viele unterschiedliche Menschen kennen. Einige wollen ihr Gutes und andere wiederum nicht. Und dann das Problem mit ihrer unkontrollierbaren Magie… Kann sie sie beherrschen lernen, wenn sie nicht einmal weiß, welchem Element ihre Magie angehört?
Mir gefällt die von den Mangaka kreierte Welt sehr gut. Sie hat einen stabilen Aufbau. Genauso wie Sena, Keith und Co. Die Charaktere sind nicht flach oder oberflächlich. Hinter ihrer Fassade steckt wesentlich mehr, als man auf den ersten Blick zu sehen vermag. Zudem sind Sena und Keith sympathisch, trotz der Lasten, die sie auf ihren Schultern zu schleppen haben.
Der Zeichenstil ist ebenfalls sehr schön. Das Artwork ist von Sora Mizuki. Einige ihrer Werke kenne ich schon und bereits da war ich von dem schönen Stil angetan. Die Bilder sind sehr aussagekräftig. Es macht mir einfach Spaß, die Story um Sena zu lesen. Ich freue mich schon sehr auf Band 2!

Though I’ve grown to enjoy some, I’m not a big fan of isekai stories.
Mostly, I find them to be incel-bait. Very cringey. Very problematic.
The only reason isekai stories I’ve grown to enjoy are the ones that reimagined the genre—they have a FMC with power + agency, avoid toxic tropes, and ditch the video game elements.
This story does almost all of those things—but, very importantly, does still have some problematic, discomforting, and a bit weird relationship dynamics and set-ups.
Which is a bummer.
I like pieces of this story and find our central pair to mostly un-annoying. But, I wish the storytelling was a little more thoughtful, measured.
There’s no reason to drive a story like this one off a cliff, you know?
Anyway.

I liked it! This follows a reincarnated with called Sena who lives by herself in the woods and can only cast two spells— perish and explode. Kinda cozy but doesn’t lack action, especially towards the end.
I just hope it’s a slow burn because why did the mangaka choose THOSE ages? 🫠

In Summary
As you might guess from the title, A Reincarnated Witch Spells Doom is an isekai. However, so far there’s not much about main character Sena’s previous shut-in life that comes into play in her current shut-in life in a fantasy world where half the inhabitants wield magic and half do not. Perhaps those memories and experiences of modern Japan will prove crucial later, but for now, the plot is coming across more as a standard fantasy with a sheltered heroine who manifests unique magic powers, a noble prince embroiled in palace politics, and dragons who are currently ravaging the land.
The Review
Sena is shut-in who meets an untimely demise due to a reckless driver. As a result, the angel that reincarnates her into her new life grants her special powers. Unfortunately, those powers are the spells “Perish” and “Explode,” and they doom her to a life as a shut-in once more. But on her 18th birthday, a young boy collapses on her doorstep, triggering a series of events that bring Sena back out into the wider world.
A Reincarnated Witch Spells Doom is a misleading title. Yes, Sena is reincarnated, and she is called a witch. Moreover, she is the only character thus far who is labeled a witch. However, according to Sena herself, half the population of this fantasy world can cast magic. So magic is simply a normal part of everyday life, and it’s never clarified why Sena is a witch and other magic users are not.
The other thing that’s misleading about the title is that it makes Sena sound like a walking disaster zone. She’s not. Her “Perish” and “Explode” spells, destructive though they are, are firmly within her control. She’s even able to package the magical powers for commercial use as weed control. So rather than a harbinger of chaos, Sena’s a timid girl living quietly alone in the forest who happens to be capable of two spells no one else can cast.
The creators might have been better off keeping this a fantasy without the isekai factor. The first 30 pages are devoted to showing Sena’s life in Japan and how she got reincarnated with her particular powers. However, the knowledge and experiences she retains from modern Japan aren’t really critical to the story, and all that background about her being a shut-in before her second shut-in life simply results in a very slow start.
Moreover, the chain of events that led to Sena’s second shut-in life are rather convoluted. At the age of 10, she spectacularly destroyed a carriage in town, freaking out the inhabitants. As a result, she isolated herself in her forest home in fear of their wrath. Turns out, the townsfolk were actually grateful to her because she had destroyed the carriage to protect another child. Yet Sena conveniently forgot the critical fact that she saved someone’s life, and even though her mother and the friendly old peddler who delivers their supplies knew the truth, they neglected to clear up this misunderstanding, instead allowing it to drag for eight years.
Anyway, the second half of Chapter 3, where Sena demonstrates her powers to Prince Keith’s corps and accepts their invitation to go to the capital, is where the story really gets going. Apparently, the prince is involved in a succession struggle, and the kingdom’s under threat by dragons, who are undergoing their own succession issues. These conflicts, along with the mystery of Sena’s powers, which fall outside this world’s standard seven magical elements, create a decent fantasy plot.
In addition to the dragon crisis and factional palace conflict, the story appears to be setting up the prince as Sena’s love interest. As far as their relationship goes, it’s moving quite fast for a girl who’s lived apart from civilization for eight years and the guy she just met. Only three days, and this hard-core shut-in is leaving everything she’s known to follow him. But if you like perfect prince types, Keith fits the bill.
In terms of illustrations, the human characters, architectural elements, and objects are drawn in a pleasant, cute style. However, action scenes and magic scenes are hard to follow. The dragon scenes especially are heavy on speed lines that make it difficult to tell what you are looking at. If not for the character commentary, I wouldn’t understand what was happening in those panels.
Extras include the first four pages printed in color, creator notes, and bonus illustrations on the inside cover.

This manga has helped me realize that I live life adventurously, and that living a meager, quiet, and isolated life can be nice… but it’s also like you’re decaying, especially if you’ve never once experienced adventure in your life. Sena, in her previous life as well as her second life, has only lived to decay. She never once did a single adventurous thing… until she met Keith, a young man who ventured deep into the forest to make one of her regular deliveries. However, in a world reliant on magic, transporting magic items that’ll break if magic is used to aid in transportation… makes for a grueling trek. He passes out at her property’s threshold, and she chooses to take him inside and nurse him back to health.
As these two spend time together, they quickly find that they have a connection and enjoy each other’s company, as well as learning more about one another. Both are curious, and both are attracted.
P.S. These two remind me of Shirayuki and Zen from Snow White with the Red Hair by Sorata Akiduki. <3 If you're a fan of that manga, I do believe you'll be a fan of this one too.

Great start to a series. The premise is a basic transmigration story of Sena, a Japanese woman who’s been reborn in a different world where she now has magic. But she’s not good at wielding it, on top of which she’s still secluse like in her previous life, despite desperately wanting to change things.
On her (second) eighteenth birthday, a youth shows up at her house and manages to lure her with him to the capital where she can learn more about her magic. Keith is a nice person, but he has problems of his own. Turns out he’s the youngest prince and not loved by the king who sends him to perilous missions all the time. Now he’s supposed to defeat a dragon all by himself. But it turns out dragons have plans of their own—for Sena.
This was a well-drawn manga with a good story that had a bit of meat around its bones too with its troubled characters—and who doesn’t love shapeshifting dragons. There wasn’t any romance, if you’re looking for that. Keith is younger than Sena and she thinks he treats her like a mother, but that might change later. And the cliffhanger ending introduced a new, intriguing character who might prove to be the one—or the villain. I’m looking forward to reading more.

This was a well-drawn manga with a good story that had a bit of meat around its bones too with its troubled characters—and who doesn’t love shapeshifting dragons. There wasn’t any romance, if you’re looking for that. Keith is younger than Sena and she thinks he treats her like a mother, but that might change later. And the cliffhanger ending introduced a new, intriguing character who might prove to be the one—or the villain. I’m looking forward to reading more.

wow!! this was way better than I was expecting. it's an isekai that's part 'Hi, I'm a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion' and a dash of 'Snow White with the Red Hair'...sena was a shut-in with many regrets who dies in our world when she's hit by a truck. reborn again in a fantasy world, she has strange destructive powers that she's unable to control, along with a bunch of mental blocks from her previous life that make her distrusting of others and alone once again. an undercover prince (keith) shows up and befriends her, then taking her back to the palace where she starts to try studying up on her powers and learning more about the outside world.
that ending was bonkers - she puts an old dragon of his misery, causing his successor to rise to power. he's a mysterious dragon/human who definitely seems to have a bond with sena. I'm very interested in where this will go!! the art is also great. it does seem to have a bit of a romance aspect to it, so I do kind of wish keith was 18 since she is, but a 2 year difference at that age and in the fantasy setting isn't too terrible.

I feel like this is a case where the second volume will be better than the first. This one has a lot of world building and character development, at least of Sena. The story really only starts moving towards the end of this volume. A little slow to start. But those foundations did feel mostly necessary, and it definitely feels like the story is going someplace. There's also an obvious future love interest in the prince Sena meets early on, but it looks like this is going to be a slow burn romance, which is nice. I think this is a book that would be best read if you could get at least the second volume at the same time, because the pace is so slow and the way the book feels at the beginning of this volume is not how it feels at the end, at all.

I love the isolated witch tropes in manga, especially when an attractive male pops by and changes her life. The dynamic between the two is a familiar one that I'm entirely on-board to see how things play out. For that, I was swept away by this manga.
Her magic adds another element to the plot as she thinks she's a dud, but other magic users find her mysterious. I love that the prince pulls her out of isolation with the promise of knowing more of what she can do.
The only think I'm not entirely on board with is the ending of this volume. It really changes the direction of the character's path, and I'm not entirely certain I want to read the next volume. It's no longer this cozy read that I seemed to be promised in volume one.

I picked up the series because I read the back and went “oh this sounds like familiar of zero but marginally less horny” unfortunately I was wrong on account that this is nothing like FOZ, BUT I am still pleasantly surprised.
Instead of accidentally summoning someone, a person collapses by her door. He’s a bit of a mother hen and immediately just makes himself comfortable. She finds herself quite befuddled by him and her own lack of issue with it.
BUT WAIT THERES MORE 💁🏽. He’s a prince! This just turned into a royalty romance series. A touch of world building happens, FMC has to handle her hikikomori tendencies, some mystery is laid for some royal subterfuge, a bit of magic being too magical and finally the piece de resistancé 🤌 D R A G O N S.

Also ich muss ehrlich sagen für einen ersten Band gar nicht so schlecht.
Die Story fängt gut an auch wenn ich bei Keith so ein bissle denke....ein bissle out of character aber ich bin mal gespannt wieso und wie es weitergeht weil das ende war so etwas noin noch nich aufhören :-)
Zu Design her ich mag Senas design so ein bissle wie rotkäppchen und schneewitchen ich mag es und es passt auch toll zu ihr und auch die andere Charcters sind sehr liebevoll gezeichnet.

This was just fine for me. Nothing to special about it but I didn’t necessarily dislike it. Some of the flow of the story felt a little fast and odd. The art is very pretty and I do like the starting relationship between Kieth and Sena. The second half was better, especially the end and I do like where that was going. I’m about 50/50 on continuing this so I will just have to see how I feel later on.

the art is gorgeous and it’s the main reason i started this series in the first place! it’s a bit similar to ‘Snow White with Red Hair’ because i read the first chapters from both of them at the same time.
the cliffhanger got me looking forward to the next volume and i’m sure it’ll be more interesting than vol 1. i’m excited to see shapeshifting dragons and so i’ll definitely read it soon!

Found this really slow and hard to get into...until the end. Wasn't really engaged by the characters because there wasn't much depth to them. They felt a bit flat. But the end finally pulled some plot and interest in, so I'm cautiously optimistic. Not rushing out to get it, but I'll probably try Vol. 2 at some point.

Some cute moments between Keith and Sena. Still a lot of confusion about why dragons and how they interact/ exist in relation to humans. Also I’m a bit confused by the magic, but I probably could’ve slowed down to understand the nuance of the different types of casting as they were explained.

Ich liebe den Zeichenstil und die Idee. Aber die Charaktere und Dialoge sind unglaublich unauthentisch geschrieben. Gegen Ende wirkte alles sehr rushed. Mehr Zeit für Character-developement würde der Geschichte gut tun.

Was Ok. Everything seemed average from love interest, to setting and plot. I am interested in the magic system, and the dragons. At this time probably won’t be collecting the manga physically we shall see where it goes…

Interesting. I'm still a bit confused about the magic system but I am intrigued by Sena's shut-in personality. I feel like there's more to that anxiety of hers than has been told yet. Overall a decent starting point with a hopeful setup to a promising story.
