A secret baby, second-chance, contemporary stand-alone romance

“Representing the most perfect example of quality or class” ~ Quintessential

A trip back to the small Indiana town of Riverbend to finalize my grandmother’s last will and testament throws my world off its axis. I wasn’t prepared to learn the stipulations of her will or that she’d left her beloved mercantile Quintessential Treasures to my college summertime love, Kandace Sheers.
Imagine my greater surprise when I learn about the secret that’s been roaming Riverbend for the last five years. Here are a couple of hints:
She’s five years old.
She has her mother’s silky auburn hair and my golden eyes.
The answer is simple.
I take responsibility for the girl and go back to Chicago where my life awaits.
It turns out, Grandma had other plans because life’s never that simple.

Have you been Aleatha’d?

Enjoy this sweet, funny, and sexy, secret-baby, second-chance, contemporary stand-alone romance that brings back the feelings of what it’s like to be young and in love. A stand-alone and one of Aleatha Romig’s ‘Lighter Ones,’ QUINTESSENTIALLY the ONE.

DNF at 20%

This is EVERYTHING I despise in a Secret Baby Trope.

The heroines reasons are absolutely shit and completely baseless and honestly so casually cruel...

His own freaking grandma knew for 5 years and never told him?!

I'm DNFing now to spare myself. Because it's a 1 star based on this BS alone. Ugh.

I had the pleasure to meet Aleatha Roming last week at Book Bonanaza 2022 & she recommended this book. And I am soo glad i picked up a copy because I ABSOLUTELY loved it !!!! The characters are well written. No immaturely stuff even though they meet when they were young, no cheating or something to crazy. Just life happens kinda of thing. It’s a second chances with very little drama! I didn’t know I needed this book till now. Will definitely re read in between some of my more heavy stuff. Thank you Aleatha ❤️

Have you ever been Aleatha’d? I have been, multiple times… and so I can tell you that she writes insanely sweet just as good as her shockingly dark stories.

What did I like? Flove the cover! Second chance romance is always a great read. Add in a small town and Grandma’s that interfere…. Well I’m sold! Dax and Kandace had more than memories to bring them back together but is he the one? I read this in under two hours, just couldn’t put it down!

Would I buy or recommend? This one had all the feels without all the crazy angst. I love her villains as much as her good guy’s but Dax was super sweet. Highly recommend this enjoyable read! Five huge stars!

I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left this opinion!

Enjoyable second chance romance in a small town.
Dax grandmother dies. She has been keeping a secret from him. But she gets to inform him of this secret after she dies.
Kandace has always loved Dax. After he leaves to go to law school . She discovered that she is pregnant. She asks his grandmother not to tell him. As she doesn’t want him giving up his dream of becoming a lawyer.
The grandmother puts things into motion to get them back together after she has died.

Quintessentially The One -- was simply amazing! The story of Kandace and Dax was beautifully written right from the start. I could not stop reading and finished it in a day. I like how the story was told in the past and then the present. The character development was wonderful and the storyline kept me interested the entire time. Of all the "Lighter Ones" stories written by this author that I read, this one by far is my favorite. Ms. Romig continues to amaze me with her writing and storytelling skills. Overall, time was well spent reading this story. If you're looking for something romantic to read that will leave you breathless I highly recommend this one.

I can't believe this is the first time I am reading any of Aleatha Romig's lighter books, I love her dark and suspenseful novels but this lighter side is just as wonderful and I am happily along for the ride.

This is a sweet and sexy read, I instantly fell in love with Dax and Kandace. We start the story with them as teens spending their summer together before he has to leave his grandparents home for college and we get to witness their young love bloom into more. He returns twice more once after his grandfather passes, which was really sad, and then when his grandmother passes which is where all the fun really begins LOL

Aleatha did a wonderful job with taking us on this journey of young love and discovery showing us how just because we think we have everything we wanted you may not realize what you were missing until it was right in front of you. And I for one loved it.

Quintessentially the one is the 17th book in the ABCs of Love series, which is written by various authors. Each book is a complete standalone so don't be afraid to jump in and out at any point of the series, this is the first one that I have read but I do have plans to read a few more that are currently on my TBR list.

If you enjoy Steamy New Adult Contemporary Romances, Second Chance Romances, Secret Baby Romances, or Small Town Romances I would Recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!

4 “Kept Me Smiling” Stars

I must say that this book was an awfully sweet and an all around great second chance romance. The characters were wonderful and the plot was drama free as well as angst free. Could there have been some angst, sure, but it just made for a “relaxing, made you smile” kind of read.

Anytime there is a secret child you expect some drama. But this author brought the home town feel where everyone knows and cares for each other. And because love was the underlying connection between Dax and Kandace, the drama wasn’t needed. Their daughter Molly was absolutely adorable and you have to love how children don’t hold grudges, they just love unconditionally.

I would definitely recommend reading if you are in need of a dreamy second chance romance that leads to the best kind of happily ever after. A Smile Maker Indeed!!

Everyone knows I enjoy a good, dark read, BUT nothing beats a great contemporary romance! Honestly, I just NEED to have that "feel-good-vibe" now and then, and Aleatha Romig's "Lighter Ones" NEVER disappoint! Quintessentially, Dax and Kandace's story, is full of all the joys, sorrows, ups-and-downs, and thrills of regaining lost love that one could ever hope for. I tore through this book in one day, completely captivated by the leading characters and their lives. Their story brought all the "feels," giving me a mix of emotions throughout. The supporting characters were so believable and very important to the story. They brought that hometown vibe of warmth and comfort that was so needed for the lead characters to thrive. Reading this story was a complete joy for me. It was a fun, charming, easily-relatable story that will have you flipping the pages and foregoing other chores because you just can't stop reading! I LOVED it! Treat yourself and grab a copy. You'll be happy you did.

4.5 stars--QUINTESSENTIALLY THE ONE by Aleatha Romig is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, romance story line focusing on twenty-eight year olds, attorney Daxton ‘Dax’ Richards, and single mother/store owner Kandace Sheers.

NOTE: QUINTESSENTIALLY THE ONE by Aleatha Romig is a part of the multi-authored THE ABCs of life series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kandace and Dax) QUINTESSENTIALLY THE ONE follows the second chance relationship between childhood best friends and former lovers attorney Daxton ‘Dax’ Richards, and single mother/store owner Kandace Sheers. Kandace Sheers has loved Dax Richards all of her life but Daxton had bigger plans then spending his life in small town Indiana, and after his last visit to Riverbend, Dax never returned leaving behind a heart broken young woman, and the daughter he never knew. Fast forward to present day Daxton Richards returns to Riverbend following the death of his beloved grandmother, a woman who left her business to the only woman Dax has ever loved. Enter Kandace Sheers. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Dax and Kandace, and the potential fall-out as Dax’s life continues in Chicago, while Kandace and their daughter’s life remains in Riverbend.

Dax Richards never knew he left a part of himself behind the last time he visited Riverbend Indiana. Most of the small town were protective of our story line heroine, and with Dax’s return everyone stepped in to protect Kandace and her daughter Molly. Molly is a precious five year old who never knew about her father but with Dax’s return, our hero is determined to become part of their lives.

The relationship between Dax and Kandace is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between two people whose lives went in different directions. Kandace was never able to forget about the man who had stolen her heart; Dax went on with his life, often forgetting what he had left behind. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Kandace’s best friend and co-worker Chloe; café owner Joyce; Kandace’s brother Jason, and their parents Randy and Bridget, as well as Kandace’s daughter Molly, Dax’s parents, and several small town regulars.

QUINTESSENTIALLY THE ONE is a story of family, secrets, relationships and love. The premise is heart warming and emotional; the romance is tender and seductive; the characters are charismatic and wonderful.

I reached 45% and called it quits.

This book was so underwhelming. So many things went wrong but what really irked me is the following:

They met as young teenagers, she was the girl from the small town, he was the boy from the city who came to spend time with his grandparents in the small town on holidays and summer time.

They liked each other. Gave their firsts to each other and reminisced their relation/situationship for 2 years. Meanwhile, she remained celibate while he didn't get the memo that they were exclusive and had an off and on again "girlfriend" who ironically wasn't exclusive with him and he had to get checked for possible stds yet he claims he only went bare with the MFC. 🙄

The last time he sees her he declares his love and tells her he'll come back. He never did while she realises her pill didn't work because fast forward three weeks she pees on a pregnancy stick that stares back with two blue lines.

6 years forward, he comes back to sort out his deceased grandmother's affairs. He finds out he has a daughter. Asks the MFC why she didn't tell him, she says you never came back AND he changed his phone number several times. At his point I don't know why the asshole ghosted her and of course he has been "plowing flowers" here and there while she remained celibate for 6 years.

And though a virgin MFC or a girl with very little experience is my favourite kind of MFC, but it is such a Quentessential Hypocrisy in this case for the MMC to be having a wonderful time while sleeping around while the MFC needs to remain celibate.

This is just bullshit and this knucklehead doesn't deserve her...
So obviously, I dnfd.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The decision to read Quintessentially The One stemmed from the fact that Aleatha Romig wrote it. After all, once you have been Aleatha’d there is no turning back. However, imagine my surprise at learning that it featured the secret baby trope. This is a trope I usually stay far away from for obvious reasons. Hence, despite it being penned by Romig,  reservations regarding how much I would enjoy her newest release raided my mind. Well, it fared out better than I thought.  Quintessentially The One delivered a lovely second chance romance, despite the many times the heroine deserved a good dressing down.

Quintessentially The One is book #17 in a series of standalones written by different authors. In this installment Romig delivered a sexy, sweet and surprisingly angst free secret baby, second chance romance.

The story introduces Kandace and Dax and follows their relationship from teenagers to adulthood. Friends who became lovers, they share a special bond. They both loved each other, but Dax had plans that didn’t involve living in a small town. Kandace thought he would change his mind, especially after he declared his love for her on his last visit. However, with his eye on making it big in the city, he left, unknowingly leaving behind a broken Hearted and pregnant Kandace.

Fast forward to the present day, Dax returned to Indiana to settle his grandmother’s estate. He believed it would be a simple task, which would not require more than a one-day visit. Meanwhile, Kandace couldn’t wait for him to complete what he came to do and leave. She didn’t want him finding out about his daughter. However, they would both learn that his Grandmother’s matchmaking skills extended beyond the grave.

The story unfolded on a beautiful note. Dax was a sweet guy. His willingness to step up to his responsibilities the moment he learnt of his child demonstrated his maturity and selflessness. He did what any ambitious young man would do, but one will never know if he would make the same decision if the truth came to light. It is for this reason it upsets me that Kandace chose not to tell him about her pregnancy. Frankly, I found her actions selfish. She only thought of herself and failed to consider the effect her decision would have on Dax and ultimately, her child. Her fears didn’t justify her actions.

Thankfully, when the truth came to light, she acknowledged her mistake and took steps in remedying same, thus redeeming herself in this reader's eyes. Their romance came with a blend of sweet and heat.

I so love the innocence of a child, which was aptly portrayed here. Molly accepted Dax as her father with ease. Their interactions throughout the story will have you smiling.

Quintessentially The One is a sweet and heartwarming story which satisfied the reader from beginning to end. Its a tale of secrets, second chances and forgiveness  and beautiful endurance that took my breath away!

This is one of those stories that you will love to read over and over. It is the perfect second chance romance with a twist.
Once I started reading, I didn't want to put it down. I had to know what Dax was going to do. This story is filled with fun, loving family and friends, a town that protects its own, and a grandmom who knows what is best for everyone, even from the grave.
It is as if this author has taken a basket of lemons and made margaritas for the adults and lemonade for Molly and let the party begin. There is very little drama, it is a feel-good, makes you happy, and smile inside kind of story. I loved everything about it and I hope you love it too.

Dax Richards has spent every summer in Riverbend, Indiana with his grandparents. And every summer that he comes back, it’s like he never left, fitting right back in, especially with Kandace Sheers. They grew up over the years and went from friends to each other’s first. But Dax always went back to Chicago.

It’s been 6 years since he last stepped foot in Riverbend, and now he’s back to finalize his grandmother’s will. Everything seems cut and dry with minimal stipulations – but ones that put him back on the path with his only love, Kandace. But Kandace has kept a secret.

So what happens? You’ll have to one-click. This was a great, quick read, that held all the elements I look for: a meddling grandmother, a strong, independent heoine, a second chance whirlwind of a romance, with plenty of steam and minimal angst. Definitely recommend this for a quick summertime read.

Sweet, romantic, smalltown love

I love everything Aleatha Romig writes, whether they be her dark stories or her lighter ones. I devour them all. QUINTESSENTIALLY THE ONE is Aleatha's latest 'light' book, and it was amazing, unputdownable, and made me smile with every word. It was joyful, heartbreaking, emotional, with many highs and lows, plenty of tension, and massive amounts of love. It was a story that had all the feels and held me completely captivated.

Kandace Sheers and Daxton 'Dax' Richards grew up seeing each other only for a few weeks every summer, but it was enough for them to fall in love. Circumstances meant they both went their separate ways, Kandace remaining in Riverbend, while Dax followed his parents into the field of law in Chicago. Five years have passed, and Dax has returned to Riverbend to finalise his grandma Ruth's Will, a visit that will turn both his and Kandace's lives upside down,

Kandace now runs Quintessential Treasures, a store left to her by Dax's grandma. She's content in her life, has the love of a wonderful family and the support and loyalty of an entire town, especially when it comes to keeping her long-hidden secret. What will happen now that Dax is back in town? Will Kandace be able to keep her secret, the one she hid from him because she didn't want to affect his future? Seeing each other for the first time in years brings back all the old memories and emotions, everything is the same, yet different at the same time.

This is such a sweet romantic story. A smalltown girl and a city boy who fell in love, shared something special, then lost each other for five years. Dax returning changed everything for them, in many ways, but having Kandace in his life was meant to be. I loved that Aleatha gave flashbacks of their times together, some happy some sad, yet they showed the deep connection they had together. Their chemistry was undeniable and one that needed to be acted on ... and when it was, it was magical. I adored and laughed along with Kandace, Dax, Chloe (Kandace's BFF), sweet little Molly and the townsfolk of Riverbend, I even got a giggle from Grandma Ruth's meddling matchmaking from the grave.

I may love Aleatha's darker stories, but QUINTESSENTIALLY THE ONE enchanted me and had me sighing deeply. It is a heartwarming story that I pulled on my heartstrings that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. It's a story I'll read repeatedly.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

Oh, I hope you are ready for a fun, sexy and super enjoyable read - because once again Aleatha Romig has delivered all the goodness!

Travelling backwards and forwards in time, this novel gives us the situation now, and reveals the why through the past of both Dax and Kandace. They were everything to each other until he finally stopped coming to town and followed his parents into the legal rat race. Whilst he had girlfriends in that time, for Kandace, he was the only one - and as we discover, at his grandfather's funeral, he unknowingly left her pregnant. Not willing to affect his career, she has chosen to let him live ignorant of the ties he left behind.

I love that his grandmother has been one of her dearest supporters, and kept her secret until her death. She also left provision for her to buy her shop they both love at a very good price. Dax comes to sort out the will and makes another enormous discovery. Or maybe two - as he finds she is the one who got away, and maybe all he has been doing career-wise was the wrong move.

The simplicity with which Molly accepts this new person in her life, and that the town who has been keeping the secret welcomes him back is refreshing and beautifully positive. It made for a lovely, light and yet very intense romance, which will make you wonder just how you would react in either Dax or Kandace's shoes. I enjoy that questioning of my own route out of such a pickle!

In need of a feel good story which is open, honest and full of love, hope and the promise of a great future ? This definitely fits the bill!

Quintessentially (ABCs of Love) by Aleatha Romig
5 stars
M/F second chance romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This story is set both in the past and present. Romig goes back and forth in a way that allows the story to be read smoothly. I especially enjoyed that you got both perspectives.

Dax has a dream of getting out and living in the big world. Despite his summers with his grandparents and loving the small town they live in, Dax knows that he wants something bigger. Dax falls in love with Kandace as a young adult and even though he loves her, his goals are too lofty to live in Riverbend. With one last night with Kandace, Dax leaves for the big city and the life he's dreamed of.

Kandace loves her town. She is surrounded by people who have watcher her grow up. The store Quintessential Treasures is a store that Kandace has dreamed about running, expanding and bringing it into the new century. When twists and turns happen in her own life, Kandace just rolls with the punches. She never forgets her first love, but now, Kandace has other priorities.

When Dax's grandma dies and leaves him as the executor of her estate, Dax has to travel back in time - back to Riverbend. Now, a successful lawyer, Dax isn't quite sure about selling his grandma's beloved store at such a reduced price.

Riverbend knows a secret and they will protect their own with everything they have. When Dax returns to help with his grandma's estate, some will welcome him back with open arms and some with a punch to the face. It's up to Dax to figure out the secret.

Dax and Kandace were meant for each other. Their goals kept them apart. Can a grandma's meddling from the afterlife spark their relationship again? QUINTESSENTIALLY is a story about young love, finding what truly makes you happy and following your own dreams.

I loved this whole story from beginning to end. It has a sweetness that will bury itself into your soul and camp there to give the reader a warm and fuzzy feeling after they finish the story.

“Quintessentially the One” pulled me in from the very beginning and still hasn’t let me go. Dax and Kandace are so special and I loved their story from the very beginning.

Dax and Kandace had a unique friendship and relationship growing up. Dax would come visit his grandparents for the summer. They always had a special connection but Dax wanted the city life while Kandace wanted the simple country life. When he comes back six years later after the passing of his grandmother, Dax finds out some things are the same while some things are completely different.

I absolutely adored this small town, second chance romance. Dax and Kandace were such a sweet and unique couple. I loved how we got to see the relationship start and how connected they were right from the beginning. Kandace is independent and wanting to make it on her own which I can relate too. But Dax coming back was the added light to her life that she needed. Molly is a sweet kid and had me cracking up over how she was like a mini-adult, even at 5 years old. The rest of the secondary characters were so special and I hope Aleatha Romig expands on this world.

Reviewed for A Wanton Book Lover Blog

As much as I love Aleatha's dark, twisty, complicated series, I found myself falling in love with Quintessentially the One. Quintessentially is a contemporary, second-chance at love novel. What began as young love between Dax, who would visit his grandparents in their small town during the summers, and Kandace, just a small town girl living in the small town, transpires into more over the years. Dax was ready to take on Chicago as an up-and-coming lawyer until he must return to his grandparents' hometown to take care of his beloved grandmother's last will. Her will makes some very specific stipulations regarding her store and sweet Kandace that Dax just doesn't understand until he finally does.
What started out as sweet love turns into molten fire need with Dax and Kandace and their chemistry. This book has it all-the sweet, the hot, and the HEA.

Quintessentially The One by Aleatha Romig is a cute love story about Kandace and Dax. He spends his summer in Riverbend at his grandparent's house. He and Kandace are an item when he comes to town. They are each other's first however their futures where never going in the same direction. Kandace is content staying in her hometown and making it a fabulous place to live. Dax has always known eventhough he loves Kandace he wants to follow in his mother's footsteps and be a hot Chicago lawyer. After years apart Dax comes back to execute his grandmother's will where he finds he has not only left the love of his life behind but the daughter he never knew he had. I couldn't get enough of this story.  I loved it. I finished the ARC in no time. I started and finished it as soon as I got it. There is something about a secret love baby story that touches me in a way that I am left with a big fat smile on my face. Dax is a good looking stand up guy who had no intention of breaking Kandace's heart. Kandace is a strong willed woman who was determined to raise her child on her own. Dax did say he loved her and that he would be back. His grandmother's death and stipulations was the push he needed. Kudos to the author. A 5 star read for me.

My heart! This story is so heartwarming! It had me smiling, chuckling, and hoping. It’s sweet, heartfelt and gives you all the feels! It’s my favorite of Aleatha’s “Lighter Ones”.

Dax and Kandace are amazing together. I loved seeing into their past, how their relationship formed, and feeling how much they care for each other. These two have an undeniable connection that you can feel in every interaction.

Molly is such a joy, lights up your heart, and keeps you smiling. All the secondary characters are just wonderful. I wanted to be a part of this small town and homey village.

Dax, Kandace, and Molly’s journey is heartfelt. This feel-good story will warm your heart and leave you with a smile.

Second Chance my number one trope.
Second Chance at first love my weakness
Secret baby I devour them
Small town I can't get enough
Sweet mixed with sexy hooks me everytime
I loved the characters in this one. I fell hard for Dax and can see why Kandace never got over him.
I got lost in their story, I became friends with their friends and wanted to move to Riverbend.
I love the dark side of Aleatha but her light side are just what you need sometimes.

This book is like a big hug.
Much lighter than what you are used to with Aleatha Romigs darker stories but not lighter on the strength of characters.
So well written that you can smell the candkes in the shop and see the sweat on the men farming the fields.
You can smell the syrup on the pancakes as Molly breakfasts with Dax.
A second chance romance, family dynamics and dreams and a lovely Molly to boot.
Strong female charachters and sexy men wht more could you ask.

A secret baby, second chance romance like no other. I loved Dax, Kandace and Molly’s story. Grandma Ruth was essential in bringing Dax and Kandace back together; it would have been nice to get more of her earthly interactions with the main characters. The secondary characters were as interesting as the main characters.

Kandace knows she'll have to see her first and only love again, soon, because he's back per his grandma's will stipulations. If only he'd sign the shop over to her with no fuss, then head back to Chicago where he's been since he ghosted her all those years ago. If only her heart didn't still long for Dax. If only she didn't have an adorable little secret that will change everything between them.

Sweet, lighthearted and low drama second chance. Sometimes you just want something that has some heat without all the angst, and that's what this story offered. Not a whole lot happens, no over the top drama or shenanigans, but some lovely, warm characters who have more heart than the average contemporary romance. I really liked Dax and Kandace, but the ones who had my heart were little Molly and Dax's meddling but loving grandma.

Quintessentially
(ABCs of Love)
Written by: Aleatha Romig

If there is one trope that can wrap me up in warmth and love it is always going to be a Second Chance love story. In Quintessentially, Aleatha Romig gives us a couple that will steal your heart, have you rooting on the sidelines for them to work through the past and move into the future with nothing but love in the air.

Daxton Richards fell in love with Kandace Sheers when they were teenagers. Dax would spend summers in the small town of Riverbend. That’s where Dax learned about true love. His Grandfather Jack and his Grandmother Ruth, loved each other, loved Riverbend and loved running their business Quintessential Treasures. Dax and Kandace experienced so many of their “firsts” together and the one “first” they should have shared ended up leaving one of them with no idea what was being missed.

When his Grandmother Ruth passed, Dax returned to Riverbend, he thought he was coming to settle Ruth’s estate, instead he found a secret that had been kept from him.

There is always one thing I can count on in an Aleatha Romig book; her couples always have readers falling in love with them.

In Quintessentially we get just that, a couple who have hurdles to clear and secrets to talk through. Dax needs to re-evaluate his goals and his future. The one thing he realizes when he sees Kandace again is that he would always love her.

Their story warmed my heart, brought the occasional tear to my eye and gave me nothing but good feels and smiles as I watched them find exactly what they needed to love each other again.

Quintessentially came right when I needed to read a second-chance love story and I recommend reading Dax and Kandace’s beautiful story of a love lost and found again.

Aleatha Romig is a fairly new to me author. I discovered her suspense filled romances first, and when I saw she writes a few romances on the feel good/light side of the spectrum, I had to give it a try and I loved it!

Quintessentially The One by Aleatha Romig is the 17th Standalone in the ABC’s of Love Series. Each book in this series is written by a different author. I love this new aspect that’s found it’s way in the romance world. I’m excited to see what more this series has to offer. But as for Quintessentially the one, this book is a secret baby/child romance told from both Kandace and Dax’s point of views. This novel is as sweet as it is sexy, I couldn’t get enough of it!

Five years ago, her heart wasn’t the only thing Kandace gave to Dax. And Dax left promising he’d return. A promise he didn’t know at the time, wouldn’t be kept. Now Dax is back in Riverbend finalizing his Grandma Ruth’s last will and testament. Ruth may not be here anymore, but Dax and Kandace are both about to realize she had one more card up her sleeve planned. And it revolves around her store Quintessential Treasures and her five year old Great Granddaughter, Molly. And that’s where I’m ending this portion of the review!

My Thoughts:

My heart feels light and happy. In all honesty, when I first heard this novel was a secret baby romance I was expecting a high dosage of drama and maybe some tears. What I wasn’t expecting was for Dax to be so level headed and even tempered when he found out about the secret Kandace was keeping from him. I think I loved this version of the secret baby/child trope more than the anger fueled version that is often told in these tales. Dax was beyond sweet and understanding towards Kandace’s reasoning. She thought she was protecting his dreams.

Let’s talk about Kandace. This woman is motivated by her dreams and she plans on busting her butt to see that they all come true. Her dreams are to take Ruth’s store, Quintessential Treasures and re-brand it, building it bigger than it was before. I loved her drive to see the store succeed. I loved her ambition throughout this novel and I loved how much she cared for her daughter. She is definitely a supermom.

Now let’s talk about why I rated this novel four stars. The reasoning behind why I gave this book a 4 star rating is simply because I wanted more time between Molly and Dax. I wanted to see that unbreakable father/daughter bond form even more than what was shown. I wanted a few one on one moments and conversations between the two. I wanted the hard questions to be asked more than what was shown between both Dax and Kandace. Simple… I wanted more.

Overall, I loved Quintessentially The One, and aside from the small issues I had, the smile is still on my face. This was a sweet romance and sometimes we all need a little sweetness in our lives. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes on this author in the near future.

OMG!!! This was one of the most delightful and entertaining books I have read in a long time. As much as Aleatha is the queen of dark romances. this one was one of her lighter books which show you how talented an author she is. So if you read the blurb you know about Dax and Kandace's romance. She lands up getting pregnant when he comes to his grandfather's funeral. She was on the pill but nothing is 100%. They know each forever but she does not tell him she got pregnant. Now her daughter is 5 years old and Kandace has been working for his grandmother Ruth in her fabulous store Quintessential Treasures. The store is in a suburban area far from Chicago, Dax's father grew up here in this suburban town. His parents are now in Florida retired and Dax comes from a wealthy family. Kandace's daughter's name is Molly and when Dax comes in for his grandmother's funeral he finds out that she left the store to Kandace. He goes to his grandmother's store and when he is upstairs looking around he finds pictures of his grandmother holding a little girl and more as she gets older. He also met a little girl named Molly at the local restaurant and eventually he puts it together that Molly is his daughter. He is very upset that Kandace never told him but her response was you said you would be back but you were to busy getting your law degree and working for this prestigious firm, etc. Without giving away any spoilers, let's just say it was a fabulous book. I enjoyed it so much. BRAVO once again Aleatha on a great "lighter" book. If I could I would give this book 10 stars. I read it in one sitting.

"I have only read a few books by Aleatha and every one have been outstanding.
I love a good second chance at love story, and this one comes with an added surprise. Dax and Kandace may not pick up straight away from where they left off, but their reconnection doesn’t come with a whole lot of angst and drama. Now I do love that in my romance novels, but every now and then it is refreshing to read a story like this one.
This is a quickish read with some truly wonderful characters, including both major and minor ones. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book" ~Sharon

"Aleatha'd again. This time with a slow burn, second chance, secret baby story whose trapes are like catnip to me.
Kandace is strong and independent. Dax is polished but at the root is still the hard working sensitive man he has always been. Love is not for the faint of heart and a precocious little girl named Molly, involved makes it more challenging.
Riverbend holds so many memories with the best feeling of ""home"". This story will play on your emotions and leave a smile on your face. As for Grandma Ruth, everything seemed to have worked out. " ~Cindy
