I’d gone to Domingo, California with one goal in mind: kick my ex-girlfriend and my ex-best friend out of my favorite vacation home so I could fix it up and sell it. It was high time I stopped being a disaster and started cleaning up the messes from my past, and that seemed like a good place to start — but fate had a funny way of throwing me curveballs that I didn’t know what to do with. Like Mia, for example. Fiery, brilliant, strong … she was everything I wasn’t, and everything I’d always wanted. I fell for her so hard and so fast it should’ve been embarrassing, especially since she was immune to my charms — she turned me down so many times that she probably could’ve made a career out of it. Luckily for me, I had nothing but time while the renovations took place and a track record that proved I never knew when to quit.
Octavia Jensen is a coffee addict, a tale-spinner and a hopeless romantic, usually in that order. She spends her free time chasing adrenaline rushes or writing steamy, romance novels, and sometimes, those feel like the same thing.
I loved the first book but I could not wait for Ollie’s book. He is my favorite character Octavia has ever written, hands down. He’s funny, but sensitive and sweet, and the man loves harder than a brick wall. Which is probably what Mia felt like hit her when he barged into her life unannounced, and refused to leave. I loved the single parent angle of this one also. Just an absolute banger. Read it, you’ll love it.
Oliver Bishop thought he was traveling to Domingo for one reason - to kick his ex girlfriend and his ex best friend out of a house of his they should’ve left a long time ago. He wouldn’t have stayed in Domingo long anyways - at least, that was before he met the incredibly sassy and beautiful Mia Camilla Perez. Even though she says no to him the first dozen times he asks her out, Ollie won’t give up on her. Something about her has captivated him, and he refuses to let her get away.
Holy. Freaking. Hell. This book completely slayed me, and that’s a good thing!!! I am obsessed with Ollie and Mia, and I adored everything about their love story. I love Octavia Jensen’s books, and this one doesn’t disappoint - it’s in my top reads or 2022 for sure!!! This book literally had everything I could possibly wish for: romance, banter, steam, drama. It’s also low on the angst factor, which made it the perfect easy read!!!
Ollie. I cannot describe with enough coherent words just how much I love this man. Ollie is sweet, kind, and loving - he has the biggest heart, and I’m so happy he found his happily ever after. The one thing I really loved about this book was that Ollie didn’t just fall in love with Mia - he fell in love with her son, her nephews, her sister. Ollie knew that Mia came as a package with her family, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. I think that’s beautiful, and so accurate given Mia’s culture. He isn’t just book boyfriend material - he’s book husband material.
Mia. I love her so much!!! She’s fun, she’s sassy, she’s smart, she’s caring. Mia Camilla Perez is really the whole package, and while it saddens me that she didn’t believe in love before Ollie, it makes me happy to know just how happy Ollie made her. I admire how hardworking she is, and her devotion to her son and to her family. Mia and Ollie’s relationship was beautifully written and wonderfully complex, and I adored every second of it. I can just tell that this book will always hold a special place in my heart, and that I’ll come back to reread again and again. If you haven’t read this yet, you’re missing out!!!
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this. I had ALL the feels! I swooned, sweated (iykyk), laughed out loud, and cried happy tears throughout this book. It's been one of my fave reads: characters in their 30s, guy falls first, strong, funny and dirty talking FMC, and Ollie was the PERFECT golden retriever guy. As with all Jensen's books, it has amazing conversations around sex and the sexiest explicit consent you could ask for. Did I already mention it's hilarious?! Because it is.
TW - alcohol, infidelity (past, not by any MCs), gambling addiction incl GA meetings on page, death of a parent (mentioned), divorce (past, recounted), tax evasion (sc, mentioned in passing), some physical violence, parental death (past, mentioned), absent parent and custody threats
CW - breath play, hand necklaces, public play, felching, snowballing
Tropes - single mum, rich MMC, found family, possessive, jealous, who did this to you?
Representation - Latina FMC (Puerto Rican), interracial, gay rep, pan rep
This was really cute (and hot), I enjoyed the flirting between the MCs that made me realise I feel like there isn't enough actual flirting in books - I loved it here!
Ollie's (MMC) past relationships have been a dud and tbh, I hated his ex and his ex best friend a lot more than he did. Ollie and Mia were really sweet together and I liked their relationship and their chemistry. They brought something unique to the other's life that they didn't know they needed
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
🫑 - no smut 🌶 - no point 🌶🌶 - mediocre at best 🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot 🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List
The Brisley Boys are back again! Octavia Jensen knocked it out of the park with this one. The spice, the banter, the humour, the story, the chemistry. Everything about this book was just absolutely amazing.
I was beyond blessed to receive an arc of this book. It releases July 11th, so clear your calendars! Start with King Hunt just so you can have an idea how much you'll Ollie and Mia!
Mia is a single mother living with her sister and nephews in Domingo, California. She waitresses at a restaurant that Ollie used to frequent (before it changed ownership). Ollie visited Domingo to sell off his home and deal with a past that keeps haunting him. He never expected the fiery and beautiful Mia to stumble (or maybe it was him stumbling) into his life. Turning down every marriage proposal he throws at her, he never gives up.
This story is beautiful and funny. Oliver is sweet, and emotional and just the absolute perfect book boyfriend. He has a past that torments him, but he finally comes to grips with it and accepts it for what it was. Everything that happened led him straight to Mia.
Mia has a past of her own, but through all of the challenges thrown their way they communicate and work through it. This is probably the number one reason why I love Octavia Jenson! There's no real "break up" point. Just a dumb man trying to make decisions for his woman and his woman slapping him across the face and straight up just saying "No." 😂
You won't regret reading this! I promise!
Tropes/Themes: Single Parent Addiction (gambling) Guy Falls First LQBTQ+ Characters Over 30 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This is the second book in the Boys of Brisley series! This is Ollie's book and to say I've been waiting patiently for his book is a lie haha! I was so happy to finally get to read his book!!
Ollie "Oliver" Bishop is such a great guy! He has his insecurities and problems but he learns to work through them with the love and support from his family. And Mia.
He meets Mia while in Domingo to sell his house. She is working in a diner he goes to while in town and he Falls. Hard. The connection these two have is electric! Their chemistry is off the charts! Spicy! How they connect and the way their relationship grows is amazing. It gave me ALL the Feels!
I have really looked forward to reading Ollie's book. I must say he surprised me. I thought he would be more of a playboy than he was after reading the first book in the series. Here we got to see his depth, uncertainties and what has shaped him into who he is. I love how he fell head over heels for Mia and how she resisted, just what Ollie needed. I also liked his friendship with Zepp from book one. I also liked that he stood up to Destiny and Angel (god how I hate the two of them!). I have to end by saying that the sex scenes were really good and hooooot, Ollie is a giver of rank if you understand what I mean 😉
I was so incredibly surprised by Ollie. I knew he would be a funny, life loving character but I did not expect the depth and emotion he had. He was so insecure and real it made my heart hurt. I loved watching Mia bring him the peace he needed in his life. With her he found what he needed to fight for to get out of his own way. The family dynamic with Mia, her son, her sister and all her nephews was terrific. Ollie made such a great role model for the boys and made their lives so much easier. This book was so much more than I expected it to be in the best way.
“Okay. Time to put the cardigan back on and be a brave little bean.”
I absolutely adore Ollie and Rio. I may love this one more than book 1, but I really miss Charlie.
I love Mia’s family and how they all live together and love so very passionately. They are so cute and fun! Ollie’s love for them all is so pure and incredible too.
Great book all around. Cute story, lots of comedy, and good scenes. Truly enjoyed this duo-logy.
The blurb sounded great but the whole book was a mess and he is a pushover. He lets his ex walk all over him and live in his house for free as soon as I heard that I thought him weak and a pushover. From there he lost my respect and he never got it back. Nice guys finish last especially when you are a pushover
This book was so so so good. It was beautifully written, and the growth the main characters had was phenomenal. I definitely know I will be reading it again. It was emotional, funny, smutty, loving, and overall perfection. Ollie and Mia are one of the sweetest couples I’ve read and I adore them so much.
