poems written by a late bloomer

Rate this book
this collection of poetry explores the complex feelings around

trauma depression sexuality love friendship and healing

i have sometimes wished that people could read

the thoughts that come into my mind

because they are the truest part of me

sometimes these thoughts represent the best in me

but they can also represent the worst

and i am going to share both with you

because humans are not all good or all bad

we overwhelmingly live in the gray area

and this is what makes the human experience

so frustratingly beautiful

Karli Crispin grew up in the small beach town of Lewes, Delaware. She moved away from home to attend James Madison University, where she earned a bachelors degree in International Affairs. She always dreamed of traveling the world and in March of 2022, she booked a one way ticket to Thailand, and started her journey of traveling to nine countries on her own. She has met some interesting characters along the way--some who have inspired some of the poems in her first book 'poems written by a late bloomer.' As an avid observer of the human experience, Karli's home changes from month to month as she searches for her next adventure; whether it be motorbiking in northern Vietnam or living on a deserted island off of the coast of Indonesia.

This book is beautifully and thoughtfully written. The author’s vulnerability throughout this book is remarkable and truly inspiring. This book will make you feel so many things… sadness, anger, joy, love, happiness. This is the absolute perfect book to curl up on the couch with. Prepare to shed some tears.

I’m not typically into poetry but that changed after reading this book… I’m itching for more from this author. She’s extremely talented and I can’t get over how many emotions this book brought out of me.

A truly vulnerable experience for both the author and the reader. The book reminds you how personal individual experiences are, but also how they attribute to the universality of the human experience. A++ Karli, your vulnerability is inspiring.

At the beginning of the book Crispin writes, “this collection of poetry explores the complex feelings around / trauma depression sexuality love friendship and healing.” She follows with the disclaimer, “this book does contain references to suicide, molestation, and sexual assault,” followed by specific trigger warning about the pages on which these are described.

Presented as a series of poems illustrated with line drawings chronicling the feelings of a year from February through September she tells of interactions with others as she travels. She writes frankly about pain and abuse, but also about love, familial, friendly, sisterly, and erotic.

Poems Written By A Late Bloomer is a collection of beautiful and intimate poetry that will touch your heart and soul. The author has shown us all sides of her, from the fragile child suffering abuse to the teen trying to hide the fact that she is growing for fear of attracting another predator.
She morphs into the woman who has discovered that there are options with regards to her mental health that allow her to blossom and become comfortable in her own skin. She discovers self love, proper physical love, and the abandonment of the past to embrace all the future has to offer. Beautiful take of a metamorphosis set to poetry. Incredible.
