Roe has once again managed to wreck me with another beautiful story.
Where to start?
I have been waiting for Kirby's story since Ugly. I knew he went through so much especially being homeless and working as a rent boy. I wanted to know his story and to find out who would be the man who would treasure, protect and love him as he deserves.
Hugh is a large, tattooed softie who has adored and wanted Kirby. He has respected Kirby's wishes to stay friends, and despite the obvious attraction and chemistry between them, he has given him the space and stayed by his side as a friend.
However, when an opportunity arises to be in a porn film with Kirby, to spend his Heat with him, Huge takes that chance.
"I'd make this the best heat any omega had ever had. I'd treat him like a fucking prince. Or…I could do even better. I'd treat him like the love of my life."
Kirby has been homeless on the streets since he was a teenager. He has been abused, used and betrayed by almost everyone in his life. His first three heats placed him in dangerous situations in the arms of unknown men who sexually abused and hurt him. However, through working in porn, he has gained some semblance of control back. He can choose his partners, and on the set, he is at least protected in case an Alpha gets out of hand.
My heart hurt for Kirby. He wants to be loved and have a relationship with Hugh, but because of his past and trauma, he feels like he can't have that. You feel for him his fears are laid out and understand where his reservations with Hugh steam from
And, Hugh, oh Hugh. Roe always manages to write such wonderful, wonderful caring Alphas. They are flawed and rough around the edges, but their love and care towards their omegas….*chef kiss* I love how he was patient with Kirby, there for him, and so in tune with his needs. Seeing Hugh and Kirby come together and having Kirby finally feel like he can let go and just feel knowing that Hugh is there to take care of him and protect him was wonderful to read.

This is an Erotic Romance. Roe can write a million sex scenes, and I will read each and every one and never get bored. He blends the erotic, the filthy, the tender, and the romantic, all in a wonderfully and carefully crafted mélange. It is not mindless sex; it is so much more. This may not be for everyone, but I love it. 10/5 on the spice scale!!
I also love how we get to see Walter and Daniel from Teacher again.
Overall, I enjoyed it. Everytime I think Roe has written the perfect book; another one comes along. Trouble is already a book I will revisit many times over.
If you love erotic romance, friends to lovers, hurt/comfort, and omegaverse, I can not recommend this book enough.

I liked that there was a build-up before the MCs started going at it. Roe Horvat managed to keep the sex romantic even on a porno set.
Also, seeing Burke and Emerson being all sweet with their baby was freaking adorable.

i didn't loved it. shockingly, i know. i just didn't vibe well with the fact of forming a romantic connection while shooting porn together. i mean i respect and love porn but i don't think these things mix well. like? how can you show real love/intimacy while people in the background saying 'bad angle' or 'wrap it up'. definitely a mood breaker not only for the characters themselves but for me as well.

Kirby's book is here and it's a surprisingly tender and sweet exploration of how someone can learn to value themselves as more than just an object for sex.
Of course, it's Roe, so it's insanely, off-the-charts hot with knotting, heat breeding, fisting, dirty talk and all the other associated delights of his omegaverse world.
When alpha bartender Hugh, who's had a crush on Kirby for years, finds out there's a chance to star with him in his next porn film - which will be focused on his heat - he decides he'd rather have this experience than none with the omega he's sure is his mate.
Kirby's also been crushing hard on Hugh but he's hidden it well because, while he's proud of his career in porn, he's still got unresolved complicated feelings about his time on the streets when he did anything he could to stay alive.
Roe skillfully navigates through the complexities of the two men's feelings, showing the reader how each looks out for the other, respects their opinions and does small acts of kindness, without either of them ever really taking a chance on discussing their situation.
The shooting of the porn film itself is both detailed and yet removed from the minutia and mechanical elements of filming sex with people watching.
It's pretty clear from the off that feelings won't be able to stay suppressed but I'll leave it to you to find out just how Roe manages to turn this erotic event into a beautiful romance!

i didn’t really care for kirby or hugh in the other books but i wasn’t even worried. i’m pretty much convinced that i would like how roe writes his groceries list.
it’s a little different from the others, with the filming going on but damn. so beautiful. they were really perfect for each other.

Fans of Roe Horvat's omegaverse romances are going to love Trouble. Each of the stories in the Winter Sun series can be read as standalones, though characters from earlier novels do have roles in Trouble, so it might be best to read them in order.
I've adored this whole series, but *gah* there's something incredibly special about this one. Hugh is tough on the outside, but with such a warm and creamy center - a true nurturing dominant. And nobody is more in need of some worshipful adoration than sweet Kirby.
Kirby has such a damaged past, and the way Roe Horvat explores his healing over the course of the story, is true perfection.
I get so much enjoyment from the straightforward way the Alphas and omegas relate to each other in these stories. The exchanges Horvat explores during the heat scenes are honest and primal, and it appeals to my inner romanticist.
It's like a decadent dessert, but without any guilt from too many calories ;D!

Going into this I was expecting the high steam and hurt/comfort that come with Roe’s omegaverse books. But these men, these two special men with their unique strengths and weaknesses… they just stole my heart. Kirby isn’t your typical omega. He had a tough life but made himself into something and was strong and independent thriving in porn. And Hugh is just a big ole softie Alpha who adores Kirby. Their connection is SO SWEET and Hugh’s understanding of what Kirby really needs, despite Kirby’s need for control and fear of vulnerability.. it was just so well done and I ate it up.
For me, sex and love come hand in hand. And there aren’t many authors that can portray love THROUGH sex, like Roe can. It hits all of my needs for strong connections. And the side characters were perfect and we even get a visit from one of my favorite Roe characters ever. 🥰 I just simply adored this addition to this series and it is probably one of my favorite Roe omegaverse books so far.

After reading Ugly I was intrigued by both Kirby and Hugh so I skipped book 2 and went straight to this one. I enjoyed the relationship development more between these characters than the mc’s in Ugly, I preferred the more equal dynamic than the little boy/older man thing they had going on in book 1. I liked how they delved a little into Kirby’s past and after book 1 I was able to adjust my expectations accordingly so I knew not to expect much in terms of plot or character development. The story between these two is sweet I just couldn’t help losing interest as the heat was the main focus of the book. I think I’ve read enough sex scenes for the entire year in these 2 books alone. Not a bad thing, just not my kind of thing.

I have to give this whole series 4.75 stars. The plot is not very substantial, but if you read the blurb.. It's not supposed to be. These books accomplished exactly what they were supposed to. A long, incredibly pornographic story that gives you just enough feels to like the characters and care about their outcome.
Some of the smuttiest smut I've had the pleasure to listen to all year. Deepest apologies to John Solo, a man who narrates some of the weirdest, filthiest books in publication. You do great work sir, thank you for your service. I do not know how you manage it with any amount of seriousness or professionalism 😅

It’s real hot but 260 pages of porn is, like, a lot.
Though I liked the premise, I don't think there was enough emotional attachment to carry this. It’s a pity because the bones for it were there, I mean they’ve known each other for ages and Hugh has been pining after Kirby but I just didn’t feel it. They only seemed to have a handful of conversations in the entire book and it just wasn't enough to push this out of pure PWP territory for me, in spite of there being a real potential for hurt/comfort here.
I think this is sort of the vibe of a lot of Roe Horvat's newer work, and this rating is at least partially the result of my expectations being different than they should have been.

I always say this about Roe’s books - I don’t know how he can write something that’s so smutty, and then make it so schmoopy in the very next sentence LOL. Truly a gift, to have something that can be so romantic while still being incredibly erotic and high heat.
I absolutely love this series, it’s one of my favorites. Great tropes, great characters, and great chemistry. We finally have Kirby’s story! And while it makes my heart ache to read what he had to endure, I LOVE him getting his HEA with Hugh, his friend who has loved and wanted him for years.
If you love omegaverse romance and high high steam (I mean it yall, erotic romance right here!), then this is an author you simply must be reading.

Ever since the first book in this series I've been waiting for Kirby's story, he intrigued me from the start with his fierce loyalty and friendship. I loved his snarkiness and spirit, and his story was everything I wanted for him - it was sweet, hella steamy and I loved every page of it!
Roe really excels at writing steamy and erotic stories with a lot of heart in them, and I loved seeing Kirby and Hugh together! Hugh getting protective and possessive during Kirby's heat made me swoon, and the way he could read and understand Kirby was perfect. There was so much sweetness and emotions here, and the chemistry between Kirby and Hugh was insane - these two really belonged together.
It was lovely seeing Walter again and the session with him made me giggle, Hugh was utterly adorable when he got all flustered. The way Kirby's past was approached and handled was great, I was happy to see that he could talk with Walter and the support he had from Hugh.
I was thrilled to see Kirby get his man - watching these two fall in love was incredible. Trouble was an excellent, fast paced story that I couldn't put down once I started it, and as usual it was the perfect combination of dirty, explicit, sweet and heartwarming.

I liked Kirby from book one. Thus, I skipped book two to read Trouble. Like the first book, book three sucked me in from the first paragraph of the prologue. Hugh was a sweetheart. Now I can't decide which Alpha I like better. Burke or Hugh? Gosh, can't I take both? Like I could reverse harem these men. Yep. That sounds better.
Kirby and Hugh have been skipping around each other for three years. No amount of sweet talk could wear out Kirby. Hugh thought patience would do the trick. Even though the famous porn star, Kirby, made it hard for him to see any light in the dark tunnel of love and relationship.

Reality is shit.
I loved the story but disliked that at some points when it came to Kirby's self-assessing, it seemed similar to Emerson's. I craved originality. Sure, they went through the same thing. They were both on the streets and whatnot. But, in my mind, Hugh seemed much sweeter than Burke. Kirby went through far more than the young omega. There was a huge difference between them. Show me that like the rest of the story.
Regardless of that small annoyance, I was over-ecstatic about this one. The relationship had debt and a solid root, springing from friendship. I adored that. Me thinking this is my favorite out of the two stories I read in this series. Things fell in place for me and the sex mellowed out with the romance. Because there was romance. Them caring for each other in the end gave me goosebumps. Seriously, guys, read the shit out of this story. It's worth it.

Every time I feel like Roe Horvat writes the perfect book, he writes another and blows me away. Jeez. Hugh and Kirby were just so SWEET. They were so gentle and loving and caring, even when they didn’t know it. Hugh had the absolute patience of a saint while waiting for his omega and the wait just made the reward that much sweeter. Kirby was everything I wanted and more.
Now, don’t get me wrong, the heat was scorching. The scenes Hugh and Kirby did together would make any film worth watching. But Hugh’s care for Kirby during his heat and the protective instincts were on point. His careful watch of Kirby in the recovery period was spot on. Ugh. I loved them together in every way.
Another beautiful installment in the Winter Sun series. Underneath all the steam and naughty scenes written in this book, is one of the sweetest love stories I’ve read in awhile. This was absolutely lovely.

I had a hard time getting into this one at first. It wasn't until about the 30-40% mark that it started to pick up for me.
I'm not sure if it was because Kirby annoyed the fire out of me, or if it was the porn aspect, but I struggled.
I had a hard time buying into these two doing porn together. I get why Hugh wanted to do it, but it just felt off. I didn't really 'feel' the connection with these two until they were into the heat.
It was a good way to end the series, though.

Usually Roe is either a home run or a major bust for me it seems...

The romance is usually pretty on point
In this one, I really struggled with maybe the first 20%, because I just don't like when characters are, or seem to be, stubborn just for the sake of being stubborn (as I felt Kirby was being). It also really took me some to become convinced that this was a two-way street situation, and not just Hugh pining for someone that maybe didn't deserve him.
BUT...
Once they all bets were off and the whole thing took off like a rocket. Lol. The chemistry was off the charts, the romance seemed to really gel and evolve into something really beautiful, and I was delighted from that point right to the end and even through the epilogue, which I'll confess I rarely bother with.
(On a completely unrelated note, I really hated the name Kirby, so I had to get over that... it kept making me think of Kermit the frog for some reason, maybe because I just watched the Muppet Christmas Carol 😂)

Za każdym razem, kiedy zabieram się za książkę Roe Horvata, mam świadomość, że to może być totalny zachwyt albo totalna katastrofa - całkiem jak fasolki wszystkich smaków Bertiego Botta. Na szczęście tym razem to była przyjemność. :)
Historia dotyczy Kirby'ego, gwiazdy porno, i zakochanego w nim barmana Hugh. Ponieważ Kirby nie nawiązuje relacji seksualnej (ani żadnej innej) poza planem zdjęciowym, jedyną szansą Hugh na zbliżenie się do niego jest zagranie z Kirbym w porno. Hugh jest tu świetny, bardzo dojrzały, opanowany i zdeterminowany. Chciałabym lepiej go poznać, dowiedzieć się o nim więcej, ale to nie w stylu autora rozbudowywać postaci. Szkoda. Z kolei Kirby trochę stracił w tej książce swojej osobowości, którą mogłam poznać w Ugly, gdzie był odważny, ostry i pyskaty. Niewiele tu tego zostało. Również szkoda. Braki w postaciach wynagradza dynamika między nimi i słodycz ich wzajemnej fascynacji.
Ostatecznie 4,25 gwiazdki.

I’m not sure why but this book hit me wrong. I thought Kirby was a passive aggressive narcissist. Sure horrible things happened to him but Hugh was nothing like his past encounters. Hugh was a bit of a pushover. I guess you need a taker and a giver in a relationship and hopefully you get both attributes. Not always taking and not always giving.

This is my favourite series by Roe. Such easy reads that have soooo much sex but soooo much good sex! A very sweet story and no unnecessary drama, bliss.
