When a best-selling crime novelist suddenly dies, her daughter, Stacy Riggins, goes to her mother's home on Tybee Island to settle her estate. While there, Stacy learns things about her mother's writings that point to unsettling truths about her own life -- ones she's chosen to ignore, a dark secret she's kept buried, and darker secrets that have been kept hidden from her. Soon, Stacy is caught up in problems that rival her mother's darkest stories.
Tammy Marshall is a lifelong Nebraska resident, but she hopes to live seaside someday. She's a retired high school language teacher and fine arts coach. She raised two of her own children and was a host-mom to seven exchange students. She's a proud member of the American Legion Riders and grabs any opportunity to get out on her 2013 Harley-Davidson Super Glide. She's a world traveler, a feature writer and columnist for a local newspaper where she writes about books, a blogger, an avid reader with a penchant for the Pulitzer Prize winners of fiction, and she's been known to dabble in stand-up comedy. Her writing is varied as she enjoys penning novels, short stories, poetry, essays, plays, columns, and her blog posts. She loves to swim and to make watercolor paintings and bookmarks. She's fluent in Spanish, and she's working hard on becoming conversant with Italian.
I loved this book! If you enjoy crime-thrillers, definitely put ‘Trouble on Tybee’ on your to-be-read list. At first, it seemingly seems like Stacy is trying to do her best coping with the loss of her mother (and other issues that make the character so human/relatable), the storyline ramps up with paranoia, trust issues, and a lifetime of deceit.
What a great read. Tammy makes Tybee come alive in your mind. As an author, I could almost see myself lost in thought, gazing out the window at sand and sea, as I write the next best selling novel. She might be Tybee's best realtor, the way she brings her images to life. Then suddenly, whammo, the idyllic beachfront scene turns into a keep-you-up-at-night implosion. Who can you trust? Your neighbor? Your new attorney? Your handyman? Your husband? Your brother? Too many suspects to count. At that point, I'm ready to list the cozy little cottage for sale and get out of town. But, Tammy figures it all out, just in time. If you like a little mystery and suspense, this book is for you.
Don't let the picturesque setting fool you - this story is full of mystery, twists, and betrayal! The book begins at the same leisurely pace as life on Tybee Island off the coast of Georgia. But as we follow Stacy Riggins, the daughter of a popular but recently deceased author, we discover family secrets and hidden cameras. Which of the friendly island residents can actually be trusted? Stacy just wanted to sell the house and leave, but she's seriously unequipped for the events that happen instead. You'll get swept into a thrilling tale of deception as you fall for the beauty of the setting.
Oh my gosh, Tammy Marshall has written another page turner! I would never have thought things would have twisted and turned as it did. Next time I see Tammy, I’ll have to learn her process of putting a storyline together. I don’t think there were any unresolved issues anywhere, her writing told her story so completely all the loose ends were woven in neatly. It’s an accomplishment some writers don’t master. If you want a great read for a long plane trip or a month at the beach, this is your book!
