This is a very spooky, chilling short story collection and it is easily one of my all time favorite collections. No two stories are similar and all of them have an other worldly feel as if you're in a dream, watching them happen. My favorites were "Sea Borne", "Fast Car", "Fish in the Trees, Wolves in the Sea", and "The Firebird and the General". I love that the author gave some of the stories happy endings, and some not. The balance between long and short stories was also just perfect. I would absolutely recommend this to readers who love vivid descriptions, magic, and something that's very unlike anything else you'll ever read.
Soft & Rage expertly brings together a collection of atmospheric stories that each excel in transporting you into their world. Silber's wonderful powers over description and tone turn what (at first blush) seem to be highly dissimilar stories into a lovely, flowing reading experience. I did not want to put the book down once I had begun. If I had to pick a favourite story from this collection, I would have to say that The Firebird and the General was particularly entrancing. Highly recommended for anyone looking for moody and compelling stories that capture the way in which places can evoke powerful feelings in the people who inhabit them.
4.5 rounded up to a five! I binged this. Took me roughly 45 minutes to read and annotate this 100 page short story collection. I didn’t dislike anything in here. It was beautiful and real and creative…SO creative. I think ‘No Pocket Can Hold Forever’ is my favourite story, followed by ‘The Firebird and the General’ and ‘Sea Borne’. This is absolutely a new favourite and one I see myself rereading in the future. Run to Amazon and order your own copy today!
Soft and Rage was enchanting! This collection of short stories was such a pleasure to read. The prose was very flowing and atmospheric. I was transported to so many different places as I read. I really enjoyed the variety of genres these stories had. There was a little something for everyone in this. If you're a fan of short stories full of emotion with beautiful places to lose yourself in then Soft and Rage is perfect for you. A big thank you to the author for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. Keep on writing! 🤎
