Genre ~ romantic suspense
Publication date ~ November 3, 2022
Page Count ~ 264
Audio length ~ 8 hours 0 minutes
Narrator ~ Julie Maisey
POV ~ multiple 3rd
Featuring ~ a scammer (duh), revenge, terrorism, references to r@pe and pregnancy loss

Sky is having a lovely time with Karim until he starts acting weird. Ryan has been trying to take down Karim for ages and convinces Sky to help him out.

I'm in the middle of the road because there's a lot going on with this one ~ scamming, double crossing, a plan to take down the POTUS, espionage and a bit of romance. There are not many characters to like, but all of it comes together fine and the pace stayed pretty steady throughout. Obviously I'm not super big on the whole Uncle (mother's brother) who takes advantage of his niece plot, but in the end it helped bring the story around the bend.

This is my first experience with this author duo and I'd probably give them another try sometime.

I was able to listen to an audio copy too.
Narration notes ~ she did a fine job.

A tale of crossing, double crossing, revenge, terrorists plotting attacks and secret black op organisations trying to thwart them….and in the middle of all this a love story that kinda isen’t but leads to another love story….now re reading that it doesn’t seem like it could/would work, its a tricky combo and so much could make it a disaster but the author manages to pull it all together and it does work, and I mostly enjoyed it
I think maybe there could have been more intro’s re the main characters especially the black op guy’s so we had a better idea of what was going on but once the story really started all made sense
Some wholly treacherous cast to meet, the Uncle is an appalling man and you will detest him!
All in all a good read, unusual in its mixing of genres but as say worked

Sky is the quiet plain girl who fades into the background, especially next to her glamorous flat mate, Nancy.
So when the rich and handsome Karim appears to fall head over heels for her, whisking her off for a weekend in Saint-Tropez, perhaps she should be wondering why her? After all, if something seems too good ….
But Sky is not the innocent, desperate girl she appears to be.

Karim is trying to escape the clutches of his crazy father, a terrorist who is planning to assassinate the American President. Karim no longer believes in his father’s ideals.
Karim sees Sky as his escape route and begins a relationship with her.
Unfortunately for Karim, he is being watched by Ryan, an investigator who works for a firm of private contractors who do not officially exist. They undertake top secret work for various government agencies.
Ryan gets Sky on board with his plan to take Karim down.

I liked Sky. She appeared desperate at the beginning, unable to believe someone like Karim could be interested in her. But underneath she is a strong woman, and nothing will stop her getting her revenge.

When Ryan came into the picture, he became obsessed with protecting her and very unprofessionally fell for her.

A fast paced thriller with a satisfactory conclusion.

I have been a fan of Evie's work ever since I had the good fortune to pick up her first book 'The Fall' back in September 2021. Since then I have read and loved her second and her third book. I read the synopsis of 'The Scam' and it certainly sounded like the sort of story I have come to expect from Evie Hunter.- a fast paced, gritty and gripping story. So without further ado, I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down for an interesting afternoon of reading. Overall I did enjoy reading 'The Scam' but more about that in a bit.

I have to be honest and say that it took me a little while to get into 'The Scam', which has more to do with the fact that I was tired and finding it hard to concentrate when I started reading than anything else. By the end of the first chapter, I knew that I would enjoy the story and that I would find it difficult to be parted from the book for any length of time. I developed my own theories as to what was going to happen and so of course I had to keep reading to see if I was anywhere near the truth or if I had wandered in the opposite direction. I would pick the book up only intending to read a chapter or two but I would become so wrapped up in the story that I would lose all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. The more of the book that I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages seemed to turn. All too quickly I reached the end of 'The Scam'. I found 'The Scam' to be a gritty, gripping and dramatic read that certainly kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

'The Scam' is extremely well written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Evie Hunter. Evie certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a story. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fast pace throughout. Reading 'The Scam' felt like being on an at times rather scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with more twists and turns to it then you would find on a 'Snakes & Ladders' board. Just when you thought that you could take a moment to gather your breath and collect your thoughts then off the action would go again. I love the way in which the author makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt anyway.

Overall I did enjoy reading 'The Scam' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Evie's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.

We first meet sky while she’s sitting naked in a hot tub and St. Tropez with Kieran and everything is five star from the Cristal champagne glasses to the champagne itself and she can not believe her luck. Usually her friend Nancy gets all the hot guys of influence but this time he picked her but not all is as it seems Although Kirran is the son of an influential man, that’s just a cover his dad is cultivated to full the British citizens and who he really is is way more dangerous .When sky flew home from St. Tropez she thought she saw a man from the plane in front of her apartment but when he reveals who he really is at first Sky doesn’t want to believe him and when she gets evidence it will be more painful than just a scammer trying to get her money. And there will be much more on the line besides her bank account. There was a lot I liked about this book but there was way more that I didn’t like. For example I didn’t like the fact that in the beginning she was so insecure and needy that her whole emotions depend on whether he texted her or not and then the same day she finds out his duplicity she kisses Ryan the guy investigating her “boyfriend.“ there were other things in the book that I found unbelievable and dangerously stupid but I won’t put it in because it would be a spoiler this is a romantic thriller and I won’t say don’t read it because I did want to find out what happened just read it at your own risk. The author definitely has talent and can spin a good yarn that was just things I found unbelievable and as I said dangerous that didn’t seem copacetic with the rest of the book. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

The Scam is a classic crime mystery thriller, with unconventional romance thrown in for good measure! On the one hand, Sky is drawn to Karim–Sky has always felt like she’s a bit of a wallflower in her life, and she’s over the moon that Karim has looked past that, making her feel as though she’s the most important woman in the entire world. But then there’s Ryan, a man who threatens the potential Sky has with Karim, yet there’s something about Ryan that Sky can’t help but feel attracted to. It was interesting to see the contrasting emotions Sky develops towards Karim and Ryan both, for different reasons.

When Sky does whatever it takes to find out the ultimate truth about Karim and what he’s hiding, it was suspenseful and made me nervous. I wasn’t sure what might happen to Sky in the process of that, or if she’d even be able to pull it off. Particularly with the scenes where Sky and Karim communicate, I wondered if she might give something away, and what that would mean for her safety. Ryan is there as her net of sorts, but I always felt a heightened sense of unease when Sky and Karim were together. Knowing what Sky is thinking and hearing about the experiences from her own perspective only added to that unease.

There were a few twists and turns within The Scam. One such twist felt like it had completely come out of left field when dealing with familial matters for Sky. I did not see that coming! But, it made sense and threaded in nicely with the storyline and highlighted why Sky ended up in the predicament she finds herself in.

Will Sky see past Karim’s indiscretions, or will she side with Ryan? And what is Sky hiding? It was a roller coaster ride from start to finish, a definite five-star experience!

This should have been much better than it was. A thriller about terrorism and unnamed spy agencies could have been so exciting. But it wasn’t and I think the reason was the misleading nature of the writing through the inner monologues and the

I hate authors who use unreliable narrators to mislead the reader. Sky was presented as thinking one story but it was revealed to be something else completely. And how illogical was it for her to believe that her uncle would never confess to the rales, but that he’d give it all up about murdering her father? TSTL.

The blurb had already hinted at a double- double bluff so I read the book with the expectation that Sky would be revealed to be the one doing the scamming. And I was right. However, when the author provided her POV, it was all lies and I really disliked that.

There was much predictability in this and so much stereotyping. Middle Eastern Muslim playboy is a terrorist. The uncle is an incestuous rapist and violent abuser. The heroine does not believe in her own beauty. The ‘spy’ falls instantly in love and wants to take care of the heroine. The mole in the ‘spy’ organisation.

Thee were some good elements in the story and it’s generally easy reading but I didn’t like Sky and didn’t believe in the ‘love’ between them. I just didn’t care. As for the Uncle suddenly turning up - that was telegraphed for so long that you knew he’s done more than try to control Sky and steal her money. He should have faced charges at the end and I didn’t like the fact she let him get off unpunished. Just my view.

It’s clearly been enjoyed by many readers - it simply isn’t my cup of tea.

This is my first read by Evie Hunter who is actually two authors who share a passion for erotic fiction. I’m not a fan of romance or erotica but their books have excellent reviews.

The description is slightly misleading. Yes…Sky is in St. Tropez, on top of the world, but this is a quick getaway with a man she recently met. And he sounds too good to be true.

This terrorism thriller reads like a Lifetime movie..with surprise twists and too much romance. The romance was too much for me. Thrillers that contain romance should have a warning label! I know a lot of readers like the instant chemistry and sappy exchange but not me. Although the writing and plot are terrific, I don’t think this author is for me.

Sky is used to being outshined by her confident and attractive roommate, so when the handsome entrepreneur at the nightclub chooses her over Nancy, she is constantly questioning why. After a trip to St. Tropez, the relationship starts to fall apart as Sky begins to question why Karim had to leave so fast, and why he hasn't called or texted.

This is where the book went in a different direction than I expected when it becomes evident Karim is being surveilled by a special ops team charged with ferreting out a group of extremists that Karim is part of. However, Karim wants to leave the group, and Sky might be his ticket out.

While I don't normally read books about this type of espionage, the way the story unraveled was intriguing and I loved that Sky had ulterior motives of her own. The story made much more sense as the pieces fell into place.

This is a new author for me and I was totally draw in by the cover and title! How gorgeous is that cover?! I flipping love it. And I am happy to report that I also love the book.

We are whisked away to St Tropez with a story full of glamour and wealth when we meet Sky and some rather hot guys!

This started out like it was a romance. Then the author throws some action, lies into the mix and gives us a cross genre story full of grit! With plenty of twists and turns. I couldn’t read it fast enough!

I love the authors style of writing it is a fast paced easy read the story flows and I felt right there in story with the characters and descriptions.

Most importantly I am very happy that I have found a new author to read. If your looking for a grit lit book with some spice then this is the book for you….It is a must read.

Massive thank you again to Rachel for having me on another exciting blog tour ☺️

Sky Kennedy is being treated like a princess by a very handsome and rich man something she never thought would happen to someone like her.But when he suddenly sends her back to the UK she is shocked and hurt thinking she'll not hear from him again.
Ryan Callahan has been tracking Karim for years he knows he uses women for his own gains he can't believe that someone like Sky has fallen for Karims charms.
But Sky's no fool and won't be used by either of them so they better look out.
Yet again Evie Hunter has given us a brilliant read her characters are so well written you real feel you know them. Twists and turns aplenty and a brilliant ending.
Highly recommended.

The Scam by Evie Hunter is steady paced mystery set in several beautiful settings.

This is a great choice for a beach read, it is lighthearted, part mystery part romance and it plays like a movie. I could see it played out like that in my mind and reminded my of many similar stories that I read and movied that I watched.

While I typically find this premise intriguing this one unfortunately fell flat for me, It was not too unoriginal.
I found it plain and I felt that characters while likeable, not well drawn out nor interesting.
I had hard time finishing the book, simply because it was seen too many times and very predictable.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for ARC. All opinions are my own.

Sky is not what she appears. She’s the girl who fades into the background and that super hot guys pass on. However, there’s more to Sky than meets the eye. She has hidden depths that haven’t been plumbed yet. It took me most of the book to see since Hunter is very adept at cloaking Sky in certain manners.
The Scam has it all: international intrigue, a terrorist plot, self actualization and realization, revenge, espionage, and comeuppance.
I knew what type of guy Karim was after one sentence. I also had Ryan figured out.
Sky’s character threw me for most of the book, but I wasn’t let down.
If you’re looking for a book where the good guys win, then check this out; you won’t be scammed.
Thanks to Boldwood books and NetGalley for the early read.

Sky is seeing a man called Karim and she thinks everything is going well until he sends her back to the UK, unsure of what she has done to upset him.
Ryan has been tracking Karim for years and is determined to bring him down but Ryan can't understand how someone like Sky could be fooled by his lies. Sky is noones fool and can handle herself.

In this story there is revenge, lies, double crossing, terrorist attacks and in the middle there is two love stories crossed. The author has done an excellent job of mixing it all in and it makes a thriller with lots of unpredictable twists and turns that I couldn't put down. Highly recommend!

Sky has met Karim, but when all the guys usually go for her friend Nancy why has he picked her?

This novel was fast-paced with different twists and turns you didn't see coming; the characters were realistic; simply making it even more enjoyable.

I found this a very easy read and one I could stop and start picking back up from where I left off easily.

I did struggle with the character of Nancy but that was because I wasn't really sure about her.

Overall this was a really enjoyable read and one I would read again.

The Scam is a crime thriller that will have you gripping your seat with white knuckles.
Money wealth, luxury, and thrills are the order of the day but, on the flip side, there is deceit, revenge, and handsome state protection guys.

Innocent little sky is the main character who is chosen over her best friend glamourous nancy for attention by Karim a wealthy playboy that likes living the high life.
What a cracking turmoil of a book. I've just given you a teaser. You've got to read it to find out the rest. Oh and theirs a love story going on in the background as well.

The Scam by Evie Hunter was another excellent book, It’s fast-paced with lots of twists and turns that drew me in from the beginning till the end. Evie's latest book is about lies, revenge, double crossing, and terrorist attacks with two love stories that crossed each other, which surprisingly fitted in well. I really enjoyed this book and looking forward reading more books by Evie in the future.

ending was rushed

I was enjoying the plot and characters of this book, but the last 50 pages felt so rushed. I think the author should consider a serious rewrite. There was so much potential for the ending, but the main character made zero sense in the end with her choices. The details revealed of the whole mystery seemed so tacky and unoriginal.
