Yoi is great, Kohaku is not, and Ohji deserves better. Plus the usual miscommunications that come with the territory.
I don’t think it needs repeating, but I still think Kohaku is a boring nothing. If anything, this story is too accurate at pointing out the inscrutable nature of teenagers falling in love for whatever reason.
This time out, he also gets ‘boring jerk’ energy when Yoi spends time helping Ohji and he then gets ticked off at her, while he hangs out with his bombshell of a childhood friend and thinks it’s fine (said friend being really into a whole other thing is the most enjoyable part of the volume).
They nail the boiling hormones of youth here, but that just means it leaves the actual relationship in the dust. Yoi and Ohji have better chemistry during their non-date, and bless him for being humbly upfront and not a cocksure rival, than Yoi and Kohaku ever do when they aren’t being all thirsty.
Now, that wasn’t the case last volume, while our leads were on vacation, which makes me think that their relationship can only survive in a vacuum. I’ve always felt that Yoi being cool and athletic was a feature, not a bug, but she remains desperate to stamp out her originality as she learns more about herself.
Kohaku is trying his best, but… yep, he’s super bad at it. I mean, you can’t help who you fall in love with, but… boy do I ever wish Ohji wasn’t a victim of Second Boy Syndrome. Maybe our leads deserve one another, but that non-date is the best part of the story, since it shows two people you could actually envision being together after high school.
As always, if you actually like Yoi and Kohaku together, there are no issues to be had. Once more an obstacle rises and soon it will be overcome and lusting will resume on its regular schedule. I also think Kohaku is an insensitive dingbat and his realization of same comes too little, too late.
3 stars - well, at least I’ll still have Mika Yamamori’s other works. This is fine for what it is, but it’s not offering me much beyond annoyance and might find its way off my reading list eventually.

I love this manga, but the story feels like it's going backwards instead of making progress. Come on now with the misunderstandings, they're so unnecessary.
I hate that I’m curious. At this point I’m just hate-reading this series, but I guess it’s a testament to how great the art is. But bleghhhhh this has and will never happen to me so sometimes I just want to throw it across the room 😡

At last, the plot has arrived. And by plot, I mean conflict. Things have been stirring up in the background for a while with the second male love interest, and in this volume it all comes to a head leading to the protagonists’ first fight.
The dual perspective really helped add another layer to the conflict as the reader can see both protagonist’ perspectives and the ambiguity of neither actually being completely wrong made the argument more interesting.
Parts of the fight were frustrating. As a couple the protagonists have always not been great at communication, Yoi in particular has serious issues with her lack of confidence and self-doubt which caused her throughout this volume and previous ones to keep things to herself which she should really share with her boyfriend. Surprisingly, it seemed as though her lack of confidence was catching and then Ichi started to display the same issues that could have been solved by communicating with each other better. The miscommunication wasn’t enough to make me want to pull my hair out like in some shojo manga, but what was previously sweetly dismissible in previous volumes is now starting to stack up and become noticeable.
Ending this volume on a cliffhanger was not surprising as it is a classic manga move in the middle of an argument. It will be interesting to see where the protagonists’ relationship will go from here. But given their track record in the past and the tone of the previous volumes, it’s likely it will be a swift make up between them and then the plot will move on like nothing happened.
After waiting months for this volume, I can’t help but be disappointed. Their relationship feels like where we started. Introducing another love interest just set them back and added unnecessary drama. I want them to flourish and be adorable together. Hopefully the next volume gives me the feels I was expecting in this one.
At this point might make it another volume before calling it quits because the whole, " I fell in love so now I feel better about myself and feel so feminine!" feels very much like, "love can make a masc girl feminine!".
This volume has a bit more focus on the handsome part-timer, Takuto, who is also the 2nd male lead.
Loved the flashback of Takuto falling in love at first sight with Yoi, which reminds me of a similar flashback in an earlier volume with Kohaku instead.
I liked how the author wrote Takuto. He wasn't very pushy towards Yoi, neither was he a pushover. He even confessed to Yoi & You handled it really well.
The misunderstanding was quite realistic and it was something I had considered as well. Definitely understand where both parties are coming from. Wonder how they will work things out.
It seems like volumes 5 and 6 are my favourites so far despite the fact that we got more page-time than I wanted of the part-timer (can't stand his ass). The angst definitely is picking up a little but I'm honestly all for it. I can't wait to read volume 7, but I also want to put off doing that because I have no idea when volume 8 comes out. I don't think there's even a cover let alone an English release date for it which is frustrating.
I am enjoying how quick and sweet each volume of this series is, but I don't love the love triangle subplot. I really like the characters and the main romance, but I do not love the random side perspective of the coworker. He has gotta go, respectfully.
I liked this way less than the previous volume, mostly because I'm just really, really not a fan of the second male lead nonsense. The conflict it led to and how they solved it was interesting, but most of the volume was focused on the part I disliked most.
