Nina’s back in Fortna after a few volumes away, but she’s basically brought the entire cast with her. Yet, it seems that disaster is literally following her wherever she goes. Just what is up with the Star People and does the mangaka even know?

This is not the first time I’ve had the sense that this series is flying by the seat of its pants, but parts of this volume definitely feel like somebody hooked a rocket thruster up to a pair of Calvin Klein’s and called it a day.

Which feels even weirder when it turns out this is a monthly release and not even one that’s pumped out weekly; that, at least, would explain some of the lapses in logic here or wild swings.

It’s so strange that we finally make it back to Fortna, but 80% of the cast ends up along for the ride (not that they bother showing the sea voyage, to the dismay of the mangaka’s staff), even the obnoxious Prince Toat, although him being utterly without power yet still acting like a butt is a pretty funny tweak to his character.

The real issue I have is that the stuff that’s good is so, so good. I’ve been having some trouble mustering up consistent praise over the last couple volumes, but man does the story ever roar back to ‘as good as it ever was’ whenever Nina and Az are together.

Nina finally seems like herself again as she decides to just start throwing decorum all over the place as usual to see Az, who has a betrothed for a hot second. Sett’s still in the background, but I genuinely can’t imagine a thing they can do with him at this point (his break with reality is also really hard to swallow still).

Then we get the tantalizing dilemma of Az wanting to give Nina her life as, well, Nina back to her and then her realization that maybe she doesn’t necessarily want that. Which would make things juicy right until the point that the whole choice is made for her thanks to a cliffhanger that I suspected was coming but am no less annoyed for having seen it.

Said cliffhanger is an improvement on what looks to be the cliffhanger, but this whole ‘star people’ storyline is kind a bummer because the hint that Nina was special was fun, but this grumpy-ass matriarchy is really poorly defined and just pop into the frame out of nowhere. I expected better.

It’s just entirely frustrating because it’s clear that when it’s on in this story it is ON, but the narrative feels like it’s gotten completely out of hand and is just going wherever without any concern. The author makes a vague handwave towards the characters doing their own thing, but in this case it really feels like a heck of a cop-out.

3.5 stars - I’m starting to lose a lot of faith here and I’m not rounding it up because I know it has been and can be better than this and the brief moments in this volume where it just sings are proof enough that it’s not at its best.

That cliffhanger… I have so many questions. This volume was a lot better than the previous two, but please, we all know it’s going to be Sett. Stop fooling yourselves.

Going to give this four stars even though this volume was kind of a bummer for me, with Az taking so much of the forefront again.

Look, if Az really does become the endgame of this series, I...won't regret all my time reading and investing in it, but I probably would get rid of my books. I do believe it would be an interesting story, just not one that I would agree with, at all. But we'll see.

Right now, everything is really strongly pointing towards Sett, and I don't think that's just my imagination pulling me in that direction. Az and Fortna are an important part of Nina's past. She has to go through a resolution of her own feelings before she can make any decisions about what she truly wants. And that's my main problem with Az: he doesn't actually spend any time thinking about what it is that Nina wants.

In actuality, he's an intensely selfish character. He was raised to set aside all of his own desires to simply serve as an empty replacement for a dead prince, playing a role until he could be discarded for the true crown prince. The sweet, loving, good-hearted little brother whom he's now pushed aside simply because he wants to rule the kingdom so he can shape it into a place where he can marry Nina.

That should feel romantic, I guess. But for some reason it just doesn't. And a lot of that is, again, because he never asked Nina if she wanted him to rescue her.

His current plan, now that Nina is "safely" back in Fortna, with things lined up so that the country is protected, at least for now, from an invasion by Galgada, is to kill of Princess Alisha, send Nina away for a year, then bring her back as a lookalike stranger whom he'll eventually marry.

And Nina hates this plan.

She's worked so, so hard to build a new life for herself, with an incredible array of connections across multiple countries. She has a little brother who adores and looks up to her, whom she could've helped guide into being a generous, honorable king. She has friends and family and people to protect. Az isn't even asking her to break these bonds...he was just going to sever them for her. While not even bothering to seek her out or speak to her for a good amount of time once they'd arrived back in Fortna.

When he finally tells Nina that he "needs" her, those are the words that she desperately wants to hear...but are they actually true? Does he want Nina as he actually is, or just some image of her that he's decided upon for himself?

Nina is a pretty straightforward character. She fell in love with Az and with Fortna because she lost the other family/friends she'd cared for, and she wanted so badly to have someone - anyone, she says - need her. She's overflowing with happiness when the old former king praises her for the hard work she did in Galgada. She rushes back, glowing with joy over having been useful, and flops down on the floor in front of the still-catatonic Sett to tell him all about it.

Az...hasn't praised her for that, has he? He's mostly just been really upset that she took her future into her own hands and went to Galgada without letting him shape her future for her. And that's why I just cannot get behind him as the person who will ever truly love her the way she needs to be loved.

Another reason Nina doesn't want to lose her status as Princess Alisha: "I can't protect Sett." Az is literally trying to tear her away from all of her connections, just so she can be reborn as someone he can keep by his side...

Of course, all that gets disrupted anyway by the return of the true Princess Alisha at the end of this volume. I have absolutely no idea what any of the star people and priestesses lore is going to end up being, but I guess that's part of the long road we have to follow.

Hopefully Sett awakens next volume? His few scenes in this one were devastating...with him telling Nina outright that he loves her and that's why he's done this to himself, to protect her from his own brutality...but following her on the ship anyway, even with his shattered heart, because she asks him to. Because he wants to be with her as much as she wants him, too.

I do really love this story and find all the plotting and complex characters so fascinating. I'm just really tired of Azure.

Rolling my eyes at bit at the end here because of course there are going to be more plots and I highly doubt the identity of this new person. Also, isn't Nina a little too friendly still with Sett? It still feels like the love triangle is trying to hold on even though she has said she loves Az.
So... *shrugs* i don't know. I'm still interested in where this is all going though. This volume felt like the end of one arc, a brief respite to settle things, and the very beginning of the next arc.

Vol. 5 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 6 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 7 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 8 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 9 ★★★☆☆

As Sett is still out of commission, this volume is all about Nina wrestling with her feelings for Azure. I'm solidly Team Sett so it does nothing to change my mind. I didn't expect that ending coming though.

The cliffhanger?!

Also the love triangle is getting to much for me. I have switched sides too many times that I don't even know who's side I am on anymore. But please can Sett become an aware person again, give the boy a fighting chance!

Downfall from here

OMG Az' confidence when finally coming out as the king in front of Noa!

Oh... child Sett confessing his love for Nina tugged at my heart.

AWWWW I love this feeling of coming back home to Fortna!

I love how Nina sneaks into Azure's room! And that she describes his smell as "light and noble" ♡

I also loved how distressed she felt when she found out he was getting married to a princess to be honest. And how she threw a tantrum about it hehe

FINALLY AZURE TELLS NINA HE LOVES HER, PEOPLE. I mean, with those words.

What a fucking hellish ending! It all comes crashing down...

Extrait :

Seto jedoch bleibt weiterhin in seiner Hülle.

Like all the volumes I have read in this series I always enjoy my time with it. Nina continues to be a very compelling character. There were moments with Nina and Toat that had me snickering. I understand Azs reasoning for his plan to have “Alisha” die so Nina can return in a year as Nina but he really should’ve talked to her about it with her about it not just springing it on her. Sett was pretty much a non entity in this volume I’m kind of confused as to why he and Toat were even there if I’m being honest. I think that’s my reason why I couldn’t give this 5 stars. However that being said that cliffhanger at the end. Loved it. I cannot wait to learn more about this woman and if she is actually the real Alisha.

I feel like Azure is NOT concerned with the incest allegations even though he should like. That would be a valid and important thing to bring up. Wouldn't you think. I've been concerned about this for several volumes but no one is talking about it I'm sure this would ruin his image as a new king?!???

For context there is NO ACTUAL INCEST but to outsiders it would look like it.

I love this series so much because it has a love triangle where I actually love both MMCs!! There were a lot of lovely moments I thoroughly enjoyed with Nina & Az but I was sad/disappointed that there weren’t much with Nina & Sett. I’m hoping in the next volume we’ll get those!! I really can’t choose between the two 😭 I really want her to be with them both lol ❤️❤️ I think Sett deserves love 🥺
