Devyn Quinn lives in the scenic Southwest, though she has called several other states home. She is a huge fan of dark gothic music & shoot-’em-up action movies. But reading is her first love and Devyn spends too much time with history books, as well as feeding her addiction for celebrity biographies. She especially enjoys reading books on Hollywood before the 1960′s and is crazy about Marilyn Monroe, her legend and her myth.

Has also written under AKAs:
Caitlyn McKenna
Jeya Jenson

From website:

I started out writing paranormal romance under a few pen names that didn’t get very far in the publishing world. Later on, after years of not writing, I debuted in small press and used the name of Caitlyn McKenna. My first releases were Echoes of Angels (later re-released as The Keeper of Eternity) and Descent of Demons (later re-released as The Price of Eternity). When I began writing erotic romance, I wrote under the name of Jeya Jenson for several epublishers/small presses such as Ellora’s Cave, Extasy Books and others. Later, I was offered a contract by a NY publishing house, and neither pen name was acceptable to the editor. After batting some names around, I became Devyn Quinn. Several of my Jeya Jenson titles also made the jump to print, such as Flesh and the Devil (Kensington Aphrodisia), Before Night Falls (now published as Sins of the Flesh, Kensington Aphrodisia) and Sins of Flesh (now published as Sins of the Night, Kensington Aphrodisia).

At this time I write solely under the name of Devyn Quinn and will continue to do so in

I figured I would love this book since it is right up my alley of books I normally read.

But, Kendra, the main character, bugged the crap out of me. I thought she was flighty and I guess that could be normal for a 23 year old, but she still drove me crazy.

While there is a happy ending, I prefer a little more clarification, and less guessing on the part of the reader.

I honestly thought about not finishing the book because I was annoyed with Kendra, but I pushed through and kept reading. I would have also liked a little more interaction with Remi, especially at the end.

This was a strange one! I can't decide how to rate it. It reminded me of an old Janet Louise Roberts book Devil's Own by Janet Louise Roberts . The JLR book was very gothic in nature and this book had that same feel, but I don't know after finishing it if I really liked it or really disliked it....as I said, a strange one.
This was my first book by Devyn Quinn so I don't know if this is representative of her style or not. Will have to try another to find out.

It's average. Not a huge fan of the main character or the writing style of the spicy scenes, so it was difficult to get into it.

The heroine was too weak, stupid, and foolish for me. There is a lot of explicit/erotic sex, but I wasn’t emotionally drawn in.

STORY BRIEF:
Kendra and Gerald are step siblings whose parents have died. Kendra’s father was a wealthy judge who died in a car accident eleven months ago. Kendra was with him at the time and survived with scars on her face and body. Shortly after that, her boyfriend Michael broke up with her, saying it was due to her looks. She drank too much, had a nervous breakdown and a suicide attempt. She was in a mental hospital for months. She just got out and returns home to be with Gerald. Gerald has been handling the trust funds set up by their father. He recently spent $2 million on a 514 year old book related to demons and the devil. While Kendra is near the book, the demon Remi appears and has sex with her. He continues visiting her.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
Three things made me angry. Items 1 and 2 below are heroines doing something stupid for the sake of the plot.

1. You don’t sign legal documents without reading them. When asked to sign papers Kendra did so even though she didn’t feel well and couldn’t think straight. She later learns this caused a major problem. She had been a straight A student in college, so why do something so stupid?

2. A second victim stupidly confronted a bad guy and got killed as a result. Sure the bad guy was really bad, but this victim had done some smart things in getting evidence. She should have safeguarded the evidence before confronting the bad guy. It’s like she walked up and said here is what I have on you, so he grabbed her and killed her. It didn’t work exactly that way, but I don’t want to tell the spoiler.

3. At the end of the book, Kendra makes a deal that was important, but I didn’t understand it. I needed to know a lot more than what was written. I also wanted more details about Kendra, Remi and Gerald at the end. As a result the story was incomplete for me.

For most of the story, Kendra was a victim. Bad things happened to her, and her actions were weak, wimpy, stupid, and foolish. It wasn’t fun to read. I won’t say more for spoiler reasons, but there was an interesting plot twist. However, other plot development should have been better. I wanted more information about her first suicide attempt. I also wanted to know more about why the insurance guy did what he did and to see some justice for him.

This is a book that I found disturbing, not because I didn't enjoy the book or the concept in the book, but because I could feel for Kendra as she moved through the conflict in the book. If I had been in the same situation, I would feel I was going crazy too.

I did like the ending, though I had thought there would be details on the "sacrifice" Kendra made. I do like the ending, but (as with most good books) wish there had been more.

All-in-all, I enjoyed the book, but don't know if it's one I would read over and over, even with the good sex scenes. ;-)

Warning: Explicit Content
I won this book in a contest from the author and found it combined both a paranormal romance with a page turning thriller built in. I always worry when I read an erotic book that the story takes a backseat to the sex part, but not in this story. The characters are well developed and the sex actually plays a role in their story. I could not put this down, especially at the end. This was an easy book to read in one sitting.

I am not quite sure why I kept reading this one. Kendra was TSTL for most of the book. You could tell very early what was going on with her brother and then when Remi popped up, you just knew how that was going to end as well. I was just glad that the book was a fast read.
