In the depths of winter, in a small English village, an ancient and terrible evil is awakening. Those with the power to fight it soon realise just how outmatched they are. As the village is left isolated by snowstorms and the darkness increases, the fate of everyone there falls into the hands of some unlikely heroes. Can they save the village, or will the spring thaw find only ruin?
Set in darkest South Oxfordshire, this is a great story that traverses the genres of adventure and gothic magic, with suspense thrown in for good measure. I read it as a story for teenagers but also really enjoyed it myself. The author doesn’t hold back on rich vocabulary in his descriptions, so it’s a great read for all ages. And the cat - what a wonderful creation!!
A great book to read aloud and get immersed in with children, but also an enjoyable read for adults who like a bit of escapism! Engaging and well written - would thoroughly recommend.
